Freaking awesome

One of the most action packed and detail oriented zombie apocalypse series out there. A fantastic cast of characters very well written lots of suspense action thrills chills and it just leaves you wanting more. I only have one note for the author, write faster. I cannot wait untilbook 5 . Impatiently waiting with anticipation

So this book was okay. I didn't read the first three in this series so I might have liked it more if I had. There is a zombie outbreak and there are scattered human colonies on earth trying to rebuild. One of the groups is ex-cons that are really bad guys. There is another group where a man has gone mad and is calling himself the re-incarnation of Anubis. It was interesting but I didn't love it.

I had to give this book four stars instead of my usual 5 for the series because I'm not sure I like the change from Gunny and his crew being the heroes to Gunny's son Jessie becoming the focus of the series. I've always hated series that have a young character suddenly being better than any and all series (which is why I quickly lost interest in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series) and this what David Simpson did with Gunny and the gang and then Jessie.

Yes, Gunny and the gang have a chapter or two but for the most part it's all about Jessie and how great and conflicted and badass he is. And then there's the small scene with the cats and them attacking him when Jessie was feeding them. At first, I thought "Yes, Jessie is going to get another pet this time a cat to go along with Bob (the dog) wonder what he'll name the cat". But that was shortlived when the Author had the cats, for no reason, attack Jessie. First of all house cats might have gone wild and began to hunt their own food but they would not have gone dangerously feral in that short of time especially when there was wild food around for them to eat. And then when Jessie blocked up the entrances and set the house on fire with all the cats in it? I was "this" close to quitting the series. Why is it with male authors if cats feature in a story there's a good chance they will be evil or mean? As a cat lover, I was not happy with this part.

And I have a feeling that we are about to take a trip into "young adult" romance series instead of the focus being on the zombies and the bad guys? I could be wrong but I will quit the series if all we get is Jessie and Scarlett's romance amid zombie carnage.

The writing is still grade A but I feel that like Stephen King David Simpson took a sharp left turn and drastically changed the focus of the series and it was done too quickly. Still the bad guys are very well written and (the small parts we are given) the capital city of the United States is progressing nicely. I'm not sure though if, at my age, I want to read another series that has the "super-powerful kid" becoming the main character and being the best at everything. (You know, reading this review, I probably should have given this book 3 stars and not 4.). What a shame because the series was exciting to us older readers until the hotshot more powerful than everyone badass kid began to dominate.

The Road Angel travels the country for love and honor. His struggles within himself and trying to find peace of mind.

Jesse, the Road Angel, is an ambassador for a new world & country. Follow his travels which brings love, pain, and frustration. First love for him could be forever, but both can have differences that could change their lives. Casey the Cannibal might be biting off more than he can chew. The wastelands can be dangerous and lonely. Fighting and suspicion are a way of survival. Even helping your enemies can change one’s outlook, but that remains to be seen. Well written, informative, and highly suspenseful. A fight to see who survives…or if anyone does. Surprise us with the next chapter in this saga…will be waiting.

Book four

This is one of my favorite series.
It's interesting and for the most part realistic.
Characters are likeable and you can connect with them. Some are so vile, you love to hate them.
I did find some mistakes, but I highly recommend this entire series.

Zombie Road 4....

I'm hooked on this series, even with the improbability that a retired Marine truck driver would have been made President.LOL. I liked the first 3 a little better. This book spends more time with the travels of Jesse on his mission to find other settlements that may need Lakota's help or wish to set up trade agreements between each other. Don't worry tho Gunny and the rest get their time in here too. And of course the evil Casey and his growing crew.
NOW,the reason I only gave it a 3.
--------SPOILER ALERT--!-----------
I always hold my breath hoping nothing is going to happen to Bob any time there are zombie attacks and gun battles with BAD GUYS. No,Bob is still fine, don't worry! BUT,I almost stopped reading this book when Jesse went into a house with. Cats. Not JUST CATS,but MAINE COONS. Grown ones and kittens. Probably a Cattery before the zombies. Jesse found a large bag of cat food and opened it for them and I was thinking aww,how sweet! Then they started attacking him. I really don't think Maine Coins would go so feral in 6 months time to act this way(Jesse guessed them to be MC because of their size and looks) because they are normally very gentle. Whatever tho,he had to escape.BUT,when he started killing them I had a very hard time continuing on. ESPECIALLY when he set fire to the house! Mean cats or not,it upset me greatly! MY MAINE COON and other cats wondered why I was hugging and cuddling them like crazy the rest of the day!!! Yes,I'm a cat person, but I like dogs too, just not to the same extent. It hurts me a LOT more when an animal gets hurt or dies in books or movies than a human . Don't judge,it just does. Ha! I Hope that there was a good reason to put this in the book that will come out later or something, otherwise this was just too cruel for me and probably other readers. It broke my heart!

Oh no!

So I’m happily reading along, totally engrossed, when I swipe the page .... and then .... there’s the chapter title, “Afterward.” !?!? Oh no! It’s ... over? Already? So soon??
Crushed.
Because I know this book was fairly recently released. Meaning, I’m out of luck and will have to wait however long now for the next. Argh! Torture!
Especially as this book is so thrilling. Whereas I thought book 3 was the best one yet in the series, book 4 matches it or even exceeds it. In it’s own way.
Definitely the one thing about this book, though — holy disgustingness. Such repugnant behavior on behalf of our villains. Categorically cringe worthy.
And something completely surprising happened to me near the end - for a moment I almost started liking Casey. ??! What is that about!?? I had to stop and keep checking in with myself. Thought perhaps some mystical writing wizardry spell was being placed on me. I had to shake it off. I must have stayed up far too late reading and was losing all sense of reason. Or something..... ?? We shall see.....
I cannot wait for book 5! And in the meantime, I’m going to be keeping my eye out for any celebrities, politicians, or other mucketty-muck types wearing red shoes. ;)

Zombie Road is more than a story about zombies and the apocalypse, it's not a hopeless new world it is a new chance for people to prove themselves and reinvent who they are. It is a saga about the strength of the human soul and the power that lays inside us. Jessie the Desfigured Road Angel becomes a torch of hope for the lost souls of this turbulent new word. David Simpson creates heros, like the brave men and women from the Nordic sagas. Who can ignore Bridget the former beauty queen turned into a fierce valkiry like warrior. Her gun kata is a show to behold, not only elegant but also efficient. Or Griz, a good hearted giant that is always ready to crack a joke and fight to protect the innocent and weak. Another favorite of mine is Hollywood aka major Brown. You will be captured by the humanity and adventures of the people that live in this world. Zombie Road one to four is available on Kindle unlimited, paperback and audio book.

WOW! I finished book 3 of this series approximately one year ago and at that time it was the final book which made me sad because I knew there was more to this story. Recently I’ve read quite a few apoc/dystopian novels but most were focused on natural disasters. So, yesterday I decided to look for something new by David A. Simpson. Mainly due to the fact that I enjoyed several books written by him. I was so excited to discover not just one more addition to the series but four more that I got books 4-7 on Kindle Unlimited immediately! Awesome characters, especially Jessie who just happens to be primary male protagonist! Believe it or not, book 4, which I just finished, is even better than the first three. I love it! Please note that it would probably be rated as PG but has a huge amount of violence. I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Lakota group are still hoping to put an end to Casey and his Cannibals and we have some great battles between the two factions but this book is more about Jesse's continuing story. He is now going from settlement to settlement with lists of items to trade and finding more groups of survivors that Lakota didn't know about. He has found out that the vials of blue liquid he was given have enhanced some of his abilities. He now heals quicker, he's faster, stronger also his eyesight and hearing have improved. While on his journey, he has a few run ins with Casey's gang and realizes he is being followed by a woman on a motorcycle who seems to be a lot like him. I won't say more as I don't want to spoil this awesome addition to the Zombie Road series. A must read for lovers of the zombie genre with truckers thrown in the mix.

Better characters of others culture

Wow, a much better portraying of cultures and religions. In a zombie apocalypse there's no Democrat, Republican, white or black person, but survivors trying to keep man from going extinct. There will be good people and evil people no matter where they are. I think I was just shocked by the portrayal of Muslims being evil in the first two books. Thank goodness that Hasif did not buy into what the new Muslim caliphate was selling him. Hope he makes it to this new America. Unfortunately Jessie is growing up way faster in order to survive, but I can read the possibilities that he will turn out to be a fine young man.
Ride on Road Angel, ride on!!

After thoroughly enjoying the first three books of this series of truckers/veterans battling against zombies, the author saw fit to switch them into 600 horsepower street machines customized into all terrain zombie killing machines. No thanks. How semi-trucks turn into a Mad Max story is the author's business and I am done with this. The big trucks worked just fine, plus there are thousands of SUV and pickup trucks out there that would do their job. Who in their right mind would take a 5 mpg street rod over something ready made for high clearance and all terrain? Like I said, it has become Mad Max. Good-bye, Zombie Road. I had such high hopes...

A fun read

This novel puts a new spin on the ZA genre; by bringing retired military truck drivers to do battle with the hoardes. It makes for an easy fun read with good, good guys, bad, bad guys and a faithful dog companion (gotta have a dog). There are several strong female characters as well as young people rising above their fear to contribute to the fledgling society.

Thanks Mr. Simpson; I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and will look for other titles by this author.

Better and Betterer

I love Zombie stories, but Zombie stories with Survivors who keep on beating the odds and have a sense of humor keep me reading. This series never gets boring and too depressing. Sad things happen people die you can't avoid losing good guys. But you still have the most excellent fight sequences that are so well written that you can follow every shift and smell the engines. I love it. I love the trucker angle to this serious. Keep writing about these people. I can't wait to find out how Jessie and Scarlet do.

These books just keep in getting better and better. This story lines are just as exciting if not more so and the way the author ends each installment leaves you feeling satisfied but eagerly awaiting the next. I, for one, hope this story never ends!!! I so love these characters. And, I so want a love connection for our lonely road angel!!!! Start this series, you won't regret it. Thank you David A. Simpson for such a great story!

Protection from Zombies and gangs out to steal and kill. Jessie, Gunnys son is becoming a main character in this book. A Dark Angle who goes about helping those not able to help them selfs. Love this series! This is a different zoom-poc adventure than I'm used to. I truly feel as if I'm on a truck with these Veteran's of war, from before. Now these guys from different battle era's come together to show what they did best......kill and survive. Protect and die a warrior's death in the process of protecting those not able, or not capable of putting the undead down for good.
*has me thinking about where my food comes from.

I really loved Jessie by the end of the last book so I was happy this book was focused on him.
He does have me slapping my forehead at times, he can fight like a man and has matured but he is still a young boy when it comes to matters of the heart!
Casey is seriously disturbing and some of the content surrounding him and the Edmonds women had to be skipped for me hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. A bit much sometimes.
Overall really like this series. On to the next!

Just keeps getting better!

So, Casey is on the move, Gunny and friends are in a race for their lives AGAIN, Jessie and Bob are tired of life in Lakota. Jessie agrees to take on the job as emissary for Lakota, looking for communities as he wanders the country west of the Mississippi.
Good luck to them all…because, as we well know, things don’t always go to plan.
On to book five!!

Absolutely love this series. Jessie, Gunny...even the bad guys. The action never stops and the world keeps turning. Can’t let a few million zombies get in your way. Jesse is a unique character. Strong, able to leap tall buildings, yet vulnerable at the same time. Gunny simply wants to protect...

A must keep in my personal library of survival of a zombie apocalypse

You are giving me insomnia since I can't put the book down. Just one more chapter turns into an all nighter.
Fabulous caricatures, depth and detailed.
Really want to see what the "Amazon group of pissed off women" are up to.
And really think that Jessie might have left a 9 months gift back with Sarah.

Not your usual zombie story..

Having read hundreds of zombie tales, I thought it would be impossible to be in suspense over a plot line, it's almost like watching a reality show , the characters are quirky, some you love, some you hate and some have you wavering..can't wait for next book!

Finally I had time to enjoy this absolutely fantastic book! If you haven't read the Zombie Road series, I highly recommend it! You have to meet my latest hero Jessie, so young and even if having endured so much suffering and loss, still his good heart shines through all his actions. A MUST READ!!!
