There must be something in the water in California wine country. Strong willed heroines, alpha males and delicious scenery set the stage for romance in Love is a Wildfire. Against the backdrop of a raging fire and an even hotter attraction, Kisset takes readers on an adventure unlike any other. Small town romance equals big city drama and makes for captivating storytelling.
🔥Thrilling danger at every turn gets Michael thinking about the time he's a wasting!🔥 August 7, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition 🔥This story was so urgent and danger-packed that I had to take breaks to calm down and get prepared to face the next perilous development as wildfires rage in California wine country. It's pertinent to the real life horrors that wildfires are increasingly creating. I found it refreshing that the heroic main firefighter in this romance was the female heroine Shae. She's brave, strong, and she knows what wants. But she makes assumptions that derail what could be a beautiful budding relationship with Michael Santino, the handsome new head of his family's Napa Valley winery.
The life and death struggle to fight the fire and save lives and property is central to the plot and romance. I was a bit surprised that the author provided only a chapter lead-in to the fire; I guess I was not prepared for the drama and urgency to ratchet up so quickly. But the moments the couple snatch during lulls in the firefight are good, at times steamy, at others just tender, touching or tentative as they really get to know each other.
There are a heap of secondary characters, Michael's large family and their significant others, firefighters, neighboring vintners, Shae's stubborn retired firefighter father, and a varied cast of business owners and community members banding together to support each other through the crisis. Not a villain in the bunch!
Though I enjoyed Shae and Michael's tale, I think I liked the previous book in the series better, mostly because the drama in it was not life and death. I guess I am danger averse!:-)
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
As I read this book, the devastating effects of “Holy Fire”, currently devouring the west side of the USA, was being portrayed on the news. The story gave me a deeper understanding of the horrific effects of living in a zone where dealing with fires has become an annual occurrence. I saw a community pulling together and helping one another, and when it was over they were able to celebrate together, despite so many people having lost everything they had. I love the Santino family and the dynamics between them, their easy wit and their deep family bond. In the midst of it all, there was also a flare-up of the intense relationship between Michael and Shae. When Michael realised that taking over Santino Winery from his father was going to absorb all his energy, he put the brakes on his relationship with Shae, for fear of losing her to his workload. Unfortunately, Shae has been listening to her well-meaning teammates' concerns and has also made assumptions about Michael, bringing about misunderstandings and mistrust. When Michael sees Shae putting herself in danger whilst in the line of duty as a firefighter, he begins to understand that if he wants to keep her, he has to show her that he means business. The story is well written with the tension of the wildfire running throughout the book, and the development of the romance between Michael and Shae evolving under the intense pressure they were experiencing. Although this book is part of a series and a number of characters from previous books appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I could not get into the romance in this book. Michael was not my favorite man-ho in the earlier books, his behavior was strange in book 2, and this did little to make me like him. After he took a bad misstep with Shae the firefighter, his come ons were (to me) inappropriate and smarmy, considering she was warning him to evacuate. He did nothing to assure her at any point that he wasn’t going to see other women, but neither did she ask him outright, and he failed to see (or have it mentioned anywhere) that his playboy image might have gotten in the way for her.
He kept separating her from her fire fighter crew for special treatment, and I can’t see how that would fly in a real situation on their days *on*. Her days off were another matter. And her crew’s blasé reaction to her disappearing after a fire? What the heck? Only Michael cared enough to look for her? I call bull. To me the dynamic with her crew felt off, especially for an only woman on an all-male crew during a horrible wild-fire flare-up. And I still didn’t particularly care for Michael.
The dynamic of Lulu’s house, with all the women in it was missing for the most part, and that was what I loved in the first book in this series. After that the relationships between the women faded in every book after that. There are a few scenes with them in it in this one but since Shae had little actual connection to them it felt disconnected.
Remember the fires LAST YEAR in the Napa area? This book tells the tale of a Firefighter and a Vintner from that area, at that time. In a fabulous twist, the firefighter is Shae, a hard bodied, kick ass, life on the line, female firefighter. The vintner is Michael, the kind of full of himself oldest son, and presumptive heir to the Santino family winery.
Michael and Shae have a history but have stopped seeing each other because Michael is an idiot at times…then the fire begins. Lives and livelihoods are threatened. Emotions are stretched to the breaking point.
Can Michael give up control he needs to keep people safe, to allow Shae to do the job she is trained for? Can Shae believe that ‘playboy’ Michael really cares for one person enough to give up his serial dating ways? Can the destruction of places you’ve known forever draw you together in the fight to save your community?
The descriptions of the fire and the danger everyone in the book is going through is very believable. Some of the situations…not so much…but that’s poetic license in my book.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read the disclaimer Ms. Kisset has included in the book. Having worked in Emergency Services for many years, some of what happens defies belief. This is a novel, so you can twist some of the realities of the fire service to fit your story.
A very worthwhile read and timely, since there is fire again in Northern California this year.
This book is part of a series and even though it can stand alone, I realized that reading the previous books would have helped to identify the characters. That being said, I will be going back to read the first three books! There is an obvious back story to Shae and Michael's relationship that I need to explore!
I actually found this book a bit hard to read... not due to any of fault of the author or to any problem with the book itself... but at this time, the state of California is in the throes of the worst wildfire season in years and reading about what the firefighters face was tough. But in spite of that, I found the book to be captivating and hard to put down. The author makes a disclaimer that she has taken license with what happens during these types of situations so the book is to be taken as fiction and fiction only.
Shae and Michael "dance" around their feelings for each other and when a raging wildfire throws them together, they have to come to grips with those feelings. Their chemistry is palpable and the author does a good job of portraying the angst of their situation as well as their relationship.
I would recommend this book and look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Love is a Wildfire by Kate Kisset ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Michael Santino was part owner of his family's winery. Shae Hayes is a firefighter, just like her father. Michael and Shae were seeing one another, until they weren't. Michael wanted to "slow down" their relationship. Shae took his declaration to mean that he didn't want to see her at all...he always was a player, but she hoped he'd changed. Maybe not. Until the fire(s) in their small community in the valley. Everybody came together to fight this frightening, killer fire. This story is just one of the stories of this family's close dynamics. This story takes place mostly within the time frame of the weeks of the fires. It may be a small time frame, but it's BIG on emotion and feelings, good and bad. Shae and Michael are both very strong characters, but both very passionate about family and what they do. I've read other books about the Santino family and this one ranks right up there with the others. Scary, emotional and loving! The descriptions of the fires and all that's involved was spot on and exciting! I voluntarily read this Advance Readers Copy for an honest review.
A really well written novel. Plenty of action, adventure and drama. Woven through this are two stories; one, of the romance between the main male and female characters, and the second, the profound generosity and kindness of communities united when under severe duress. Both stories are exceedingly heartwarming. Even if the facts surrounding protocols for firefighters are not quite factual, the author's ability to open our eyes, quite literally, to the depth of character firefighters exude under horrendous circumstances is appreciated. The banter between the two main characters was lovely to watch. It was a life lesson for both to learn how they came to pledge themselves to each other. (As well as for the reader to absorb these important life lessons.)
As this novel is related to others in this series it is not surprising that Ms. Kisset has engaged us into wanting to know the outcome of the next novel.
Excellent reading! Time well spent!
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.
Shae is a firefighter who thought she was falling for playboy Michael when he decides they need to slow down. With all the guys at her firehouse crew telling her what a player he is Shae decides Michael is just letting her down easy and leaves first. The main flaw in her plan is that Michael is part of the Santino family who are huge wine makers and supports of the fire department. So they see each other a lot especially since their world is on fire. Not to mention, it appears Michael is clueless as to why Shae thinks he's a player. Aside from the romance, the fires were described so well you could feel the terror and exhaustion of not only the firefighters, but the locals as well. The idea of having to fight a fire line to protect not only our home, but your livelihood that has been passed down from generations, is a daunting one. This romance was a great story and I enjoyed it. I loved Shae and Michael and I loved how they were fighting not only for each other but for their homes. The fast pace of the story helped match the urgency that takes over during a fire. This was my first Kate Kisset book and I can't wait to read the rest of the Santino family's stories!
Michael just took over the running of Santino winery And was feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of the office Paperwork and how his dad ran things. The vines he could handle. So when he went to dinner with Shae, who he had been dating exclusively, he tried to talk to her and explained not very well, that he thought they should slow down some. Shae thought he was breaking up with her and was deeply hurt...but hid it pretty well, so she actually broke up with him. Shae is a firefighter from a family of firefighters. Shae can’t stop thinking about Michael and Michael can’t stop thinking about Shae. Michael’s buried in paperwork and running the winery, Shea’s busy with the fire department. Then the unthinkable happens wild fire....I loved this story...very romantic suspenseful, can’t put it down...page turner I was granted an ARC copy and I’m voluntarily leaving this review...this is the third or fourth book of hers that I have read And Kate is a wonderful writer. Fully developed characters and plot’s are exceptionally delightful.
This story is a sweet, sultry romance with the wildfires in wine country as a backdrop. Michael is the new head of the family winery. Feeling overwhelmed by his responsibilities, he puts his budding relationship with Shea on hold. Believing he is the womanizer he is reputed to be, Shae makes a clean break and distances herself from Michael.
When they meet again, firefighter Shae tries to get Michael and his family to evacuate the winery. He and his family refuse to leave the winery unless there is no other recourse. Shae and her fire company make the winery a home base in order to be closer to the wildfires. While the fires burn around them, the sparks between Michael and Shae begin to smolder and blaze too. They both try to keep each other safe, and to provide comfort and care while the fires burn. Their intimate encounters are sexy and hot, and the firefighting experiences are thrilling and dangerous.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Love Is a Wildfire by Kate Kisset should come with a warning label, DO NOT START IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE THAT MUST BE DONE. This is because once you start Michael and Shae’s story, you will not be able to stop reading until the very last page. Even then I kept looking for more because while their story comes to such a satisfying conclusion, there is a major cliffhanger for another Santino brother. I can only say Kate Kisset had better be writing his story right this very minute. Having read several other of books by this author I knew I would enjoy Love is a Wildfire too. However, I was not prepared for the consuming way it took my attention and heart much like the wildfire in the story did. I think I could feel the heat and ash as I read. Best book I have read by Kate Kisset, which shows her continued growth as an accomplished author. The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Michael pursued Shae with all he had until he realized everything he had on his plate in the upcoming months & decided they needed to “slow down”. Shae took that as him breaking up with her. She was angry! Now, they are brought back together as Shaw’s firefighting crew is stationed at Michael’s vineyard while fighting terrible wildfires. Against the threats of rapidly escalating flames, Shae & Michael realize what is most important. Is it too late?
Ms. Kisset manages to craft wonderful characters that come alive in the story. Their characteristics & mannerisms are perfectly realistic. The interactions between Shae & her fellow firefighters show the closeness & family atmosphere that developed when you are trusting each other with your life. Michael has to realize there is more to life than work & proving your father wrong. Shae needs to learn to trust her feelings more than gossip. This was an enjoyable escape!
Love is a Wildfire, book 4 in Love in the Vineyards series by Kate Kisset. This is romance story about vintner Michael Santino and firefighter Shae Hayes.
I really enjoyed the descriptiveness about the California wildfires as it relates to what is happening in real life today. Shae, being a female firefighter was a really interesting point of view. Michael had his hands full in taking over the family vinyard which became threatened by the raging wildfires. Several vinyards selflessly fighting to save their businesses were also quick to give back and help the community as well. The Author, Kate Kisset did an excellent job describing what people were experiencing during the wildfire disaster. Michael drifts away from Shae to focus on the vinyard. I didn’t like how Shae assumed Michael wanted to see other women. However, when the wildfire threatens the vinyard it brings them back together and the heat gets even hotter.
This installment in Ms. Kisset's series of love in wine country has more emotions and sentimental value than the others. Why you ask? It was in my opinion, a tribute to those who experienced the wildfires in California last year. A creation of respect to those fought to save lives and memories. A lesson in life that life is too short. Cherish those around you. Embrace life and love. Sure Michael didn't know that he was looking for love, but Shae was. Sure there were heated moments between them, probably more heated than those found between his brothers and their special women, but again, this is more than a love story or hot steamy romance. It's about love of life, family, friends, community, pets and memories. It's about learning which battles to fight and which ones to surrender to. I have been an admirer of Kate Kisset for sometime now and will forever be grateful that she has allowed me to be a part of her life in Wine Country.
Michael Santino gets a call, a wild fire is raging out of control, he needs to get the the vineyard. When the beautiful firefighter, Shae Hayes, comes to his door telling he that he needs to evacuate the vineyard, she knows he will refuse. Michael has never forgotten Shae, she is the one that got away. When changes in the wind result in Shae's crew being stationed at Michael's vineyard, the chemistry between them flair life the fires burning in the area. This is a well written story that has you turning the page to see what will happen next and after the fires that plagued Napa Valley recently, you can feel the terror the vineyard owners go through and you will have a better appreciation for the firefighters that put their lives at risk trying to save lives and property. I volunteered to read and review this story.
This story is set during the devastating California wine country fires. Michael Santino is part owner of the family winery while Shae Hayes is a firefighter that Michael dated and then called it quicks. Michael can't commit do to things in his past while Shae would eventually like someone who can share her life as a firefighter and take her the way she is.When evacuations start taking place and Shae's crew sets up at Michael's winery their dynamic changes again. He wants to take care of her and give her a safe place to land during her downtime and try as she does not to, she falls more in love with Michael. As the fire rages so does the connection between them until Michael gets scared and calls a halt again. This is a fantastic, heartfelt story with a happy ending. Can't wait for brother Leo's story.
Finally the love story for Michael Santino, heir to the Santino family winery. He is always dedicated to helping his father, now he will face this challenge alone as Mr. Santino retires. Shae is a sweet and brave firefighter who finds herself involved in Michael's clutches. He still can not commit to anyone just wanting casual and brief relationships. But the two end up approaching after the season of fires begins to threaten the wineries and the cities of the region. I fell in love with the way Kate Kisset turned the book into a strong thank you to the firefighters who fight against fires in her area. It turned out to be a great adventure rich in details about how risky this profession is. I fell in love with Shae's determined way and I loved seeing the couples of the other books in the series again. Another fresh and cute love story for the hot summer days.
What a beautifully written story about Shae and Michael. They have been dating and Michael tells her he wants to slow down. Shae thinks he just wants to date other people, so she tells him she’s done. When the wildfires hit, Shae’s crew decides she can give Michael the news that he needs to evacuate the Santino Winery. “Not happening” says Michael. This story gives us a great idea of what happened during those awful wildfires in California. You will flip the pages until the end to see what happens and then be ready for the next story about Leo. I loved reading more about the Santino family and I can’t wait for the next book.
Being a firefighter is one of the most rewarding and dangerous jobs there is.
Reading a book by Kate Kisset is like meeting a friend and catching up over a cup of coffee.. This book has strong characters, wild fires, Napa vineyards, and unpredictability in the twists and turns. I worried the whole time about the strong knit communities and the vineyards as the fire approaches. There was also a small fire kindling between Shae Hayes and Michael Santino which gets snuffed out early in the story until his Napa vineyards are under a fire storm watch. Then you will have to watch out for hot spots. This book really brings to home how life can change in a minute and we should not leave anything left unsaid. How nice to see a woman in a strong, firefighter role. Shae's character is also the perfect match for Michael Santino.
Moving book and Heartbreaking..so much more when you learn what’s involved in this book.
Ms. Kisset’s 4th Book in Love in the Vineyard Series. Michael is a playboy but something changes when he meets Shae Hayes. She’s beautiful and very strong firefighter. He needs to concentrate on the Santino Winery so he puts distance between them. When the fire hits and he’s face to face with it he rethinks.
Shae is good at her job. She needs to be on top of things as a firefighter, but when the fire gets bad and moves for Michael’s home she worries. She needs to make him see reason to evacuate.
See where things go between them. Do they have a second chance at romance?
4 3/4 Stars We finally get to know why Michael had a revolving door of women! I’ll be honest, while I have loved all of Love in the Vinyard books, I didn’t think I would like Michael when I found out his would be the next book. I didn’t like how he toyed with Danica in Napa Crush. I ended up not only liking him, but feeling for him for what he lost. I loved that this book depicts a strong woman in a male dominated field! Shar was great! The only reason I didn’t rate it the full five stars is that it didn’t quite meet the absolute perfection that was Napa Crush, but was it close. Luca will probably always be my favorite Santino brother but I’m really looking forward to finding out where Leo is!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.
This is a fantastic story. I have loved all of the books in this series. Reading this book is like seeing a movie in my head. Living in So. California, I sure remembering this fire. I haven't been up there since it happened. This makes the fire so much more real to me. It is like I actually lived through it. What a amazing story-teller. When this series is over, I will have to go back and re-read all of these books over again from start to finish. I just love the dual POVs that this book is written in. Especially Shea's POV when Michael and she are in the restaurant at the beginning of the book. Fantastic.
If you love a great romance with a bit of suspense due to the fire, you will not want to miss this one.
Michael is the last brother anyone saw settling down although none knew his secret. She was a fire fighter ready to let down her walls and let him in. Every year parts of California go up in flames but nothing could prepare them for the fire storm that hit the area. It's going to take a village to overcome the wild fires that threaten the life they have. It's in the midst of that battle that these two find their way to each other. They are reminded that time waits for no one, as their past ghost and present collide with their future and their hearts. This author does an amazing job with this emotional story and how this family and community battle for their lives, their land and their future.
Love is a Wildfire: Wow! Fantastic writing and romance. Loved Michael's Story! The characters were great how they stuck together as family. It was a very emotional story. I loved that Kate Kisset chose to put the wildfires that she lived through last year into this story. It was so true on what people went through with Wildfires and other natural disasters when they have to go through something so dramatic like whether you could lose everything or just do a lot of praying to do what you can to protect and help your friends, families and first responders. Well worth wait for this story! Fantastic Job!
Love is a Wildfire is book number four in Love in the Vineyards series by Kate Kisset. This is Michael Santino and Shae Hayes’ story.
This is a sweet and emotional story with a hot romance. I enjoyed the characters but there were times that I wanted to smack some sense into Michael. The story takes place during the horrific California wildfires. The author did a great job describing what people experienced during this disaster. After going through the devastating wildfires will Michael and Shae realize what is really important in life?
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
As always Kate Kisset delivers when she gives us a new book. The story in this book is one that makes you want to be in love all over again. I like how Danica and Luca are in this book as well, and how it makes Shae want that kind of love. I wanted Michael to be that man for her and their interactions made the story more realistic. I like the scene where he wants her to say that she is crazy about him and leaves her wanting more. This scene made me love the story even more. I wanted them to be together after that scene. This story is very romantic and realistic. I cannot wait for more from Kate. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves good love stories.
This is the 4th and final book in the Wine Country Romance Series. Although it's part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Reading this book was like reading the current news about all the fires in California. Michael is a vineyard owner with flames threatening his vineyard. But the only flame he can think about is the one that firefighter, Shae has ignited in him. A hot and sexy romance that will steam up your Kindle. Well written with strong characters and an entertaining story. I read this as a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
Set during the devastating California wildfires, Love Is A Wildfire is breathtaking.
Michael and Shae dated months ago but when things got too hot, Michael bailed, leaving Shae shaken. Now, forced to work together to save the vineyard and surrounding area, old feelings flame to life again.
I was not a huge fan of Michael 's going into this book but his back story and his love of Shae changed my mind!! Shae is pretty amazing. A spunky female firefighter tackling Napa Valley's confirmed playboy bachelor? Yes please!! Looking forward to more in this series!!
