I Don't: A Romantic Comedy

Rate this book
“I Do.” My name is Whitney Wheeler and I’ve dreamed of saying those two words since I was ten years old. I thought my dream was finally coming true. Fate, however, has other plans. My perfectly planned life hits a snag eight days before our wedding. I walk in on my fiancé on the couch with someone who isn’t me. Trying to “blow off” that visual, and without thinking, I accept an invitation to take a road trip with the boy who broke my teenage heart. Lucas DeCosta is all man, and surprise surprise—a male stripper. Beyond his movie-star good looks, his oh so sexy dance moves, and those big brown eyes, I find a kind heart and the overall goodness of the boy who still sets my heart on fire. Each time he looks at me, I feel it. Zing. Zang. Electricity. It. When life hands you lemons . . . take a shot of tequila and hand fate the keys to your life. Because, sometimes the best thing to say is “I Don’t” before you can ever say “I Do.”

4.5 Whitney and Lucas Stars

I really enjoyed this sweet and sexy story about two childhood friends who reconnect after a few years apart.

Whitney is a week off of marrying her fiancé , Trenton , when she catches him in a compromising position with his secretary. All her life Whitney has planned her dream wedding but maybe she was so busy doing that, she missed the fact that he was not the man for her. Her friends take her out for some girl time and they go to a male strip club where the hottest guy on the stage is looking good...and looking at her. His name is Lucas and at one time, he was one of her best friends but they went their separate ways. Now they have a second chance and this gorgeous man is not letting his girl go this time.

If someone were to ask me about "the one who got away" I'd say that was Lucas DeCosta.

This is a well written and enjoyable story. Lucas is one of the loveliest heroes I have read - Nothing makes this romance junkie happier than when the hero is focused on the heroine and the heroine only. He is romantic, driven and hell bent on getting the girl. He is studying to be a Doctor and this stripping job helps pay the bills and that is fine if you're single but what happens when the girl who owns your heart and doesn't even realise it , comes back on the scene. She has already had her trust smashed by her ex fiance so she is naturally cautious. Whitney is a likeable heroine and I understood why she was cautious but I wanted to give her a good shove towards Lucas sometimes, hence not quite 5 stars.

There is lots of humour and well written dialogue. Whitney's best friend , Jessi , is hilarious:

"Are you drooling?" "Fuck yeah I am. Do you see that man? He isn't a scrawny fifteen year old science nerd anymore. He's what my Mama told me to avoid and my sister told me to ride like a fucking bronco"

Great secondary characters. Perfect ending that fitted them well.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

This book is a little different from this author's other books, but in this case different works and works well!

Whit has been planning her wedding since she was 10 and is about to have it all. She is a week away from the perfect wedding to her perfect fiance.

One moment sends Whit's plans into a tailspin and has her questioning everything. A night out with friends to take her mind off it brings about a chance meeting with an old high school friend (who she was crushing on back then), Lucas.

Meeting up with Lucas only leads to more questioning and we watch Whit reassess what she thought was perfect and what she wants out of life.

And Whit's friend, Jessi, is just icing on the cake that is this book. Loved her hard!

Although there are some problems and sadness, this book has humor, romance, friendship, and even road trips and puppies!

I think this might be my favorite book yet by this author!!

This was my very first Andrea Johnston book and it definitely wont be my last! Its a slow burn second chance romance with a Hero and Heroine you cant help but adore.
A tad cliche, yes. But that didnt really bother me.
I loved the pacing of the story and the writing style was my cup of tree.
Perfect laid back read.

4 "It" Stars

I Don't was a feel good romcom. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it left a smile on my face once I finished reading. Filled with laugh-out-loud moments and characters I couldn't help but fall for.

Whitney has been obsessed about planning her wedding at a very young age. Wanting everything to perfect and nothing to come between having her day be nothing but spectacular. Just when she has everything down to a T, she didn't expect for it all to come crumbling down. And what a perfect time to have a girls' weekend. Whitney, needing the time to just forget about her worries and have a little fun. But, what Whitney doesn't expect is for her high school crush to reappear in her life. Oh, and what a way he reappears.

Lucas, since the age of 15 has felt something for Whitney. And just when he's found the courage to tell her about his feelings, he didn't expect for her to shut him out. Now, years later and an unexpected situation has Lucas facing Whitney. Neither of them expecting to see each other again, but when they do, it's evident that sparks are definitely there.

Whitney and Lucas were sweetly adorable. They had me smiling from ear-to-ear. I couldn't help but get butterflies whenever they were together. Their chemistry was undeniable. But their growth from friendship to something more was exactly the way it had to be.

I Don't was a deliciously slow burn/romcom that had me on pins and needles waiting when Whitney and Lucas would finally take that next step. With secondary characters that brought that extra zing. A fun read that had me swooning so hard over Lucas and his dance moves. *wink* For my first Andrea Johnston novel, I'd say it was a winner.

Oh my goodness!! What a fun read!! I had such a blast reading I Don't! I thought going in that this would be more of a 'Runaway Bride' story, but it definitely had more of a "Wedding Planner" meets "Magic Mike" vibe to it that I absolutely adored!

I Don't is a slow burn romance that will have your windows fogging up from the panting you will be doing leading up to the epic bang sesh! I was a little nervous going into this story because Winter Break also by Andrea Johnston had a little too much sex for my taste. I didn't need to worry, because this one was simmering with sexual tension and not overwrought with them going at it.

Think of I Don't as a journey of rediscovering who you are and setting aside standards of perfection you have set on yourself to fall in love with yourself again after years of trying to live up to what you were told once, kind of ish like, when Ricky Bobby was living by the saying of "If you aren't first, you're last." Okay so that probably isn't be the best example, but whatever.

I absolutely couldn't get enough of this courtship! It was so freaking sweet and thoughtful and I couldn't get enough of it. I was drowning in the swoons! I love romance and comedy and I Don't has both in spades!!

"Perfection isn’t a plan or a way of life, it’s living the best life there is for you."

My favorite part in this book were the best friends. It's awesome when an author writes secondary characters so well that you fall for them, maybe even more then the two main characters.

I'm not sure how to write my review. I liked this book. There were funny moments but I'm not sure I would title it a "romcom" but that's just me personally.

My feelings toward the two main characters are just in difference. I didn't love them but I also didn't not love them.

It was a quick read with some fun moments. There were times that I felt something was missing. It has nothing to do with this book being a slooooow burn which it is but I guess I didn't believe that the two main characters really loved one another. Ugh I don't know.

I Don’t is a light, fun read. The heroine, Whitney is trying to figure out what to do after she catches her fiancé cheating. I Don’t is the story of her discovering what she wants out of relationships and life.

I enjoyed this story, but it didn’t quite meet all my expectations. I feel like I kept being distracted with questions. Whitney was a fun heroine and Lucas was an enjoyable, sexy hero. I very much enjoyed the friendships the main characters has with the second characters. If you are looking for a light, fun, sexy, summer read, check it out.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

This was such a fun, good, high school crush second chance read! I loved it. Whitney is engaged and wedding day is coming up. Unfortunately, she walks into her house and her fiancé' is getting his groove on, and its not with his fiance'. This same weekend, she is hanging with her girls, her bachelorette weekend. She reunites with a high school crush, Lucas. He is a med student/male stripper/puppy transporter. An offer is made to take a trip with Lucas. Whitney has a chance to look at her life, really look and figure out what she wants.

This really is a sweet second chance at love. Lucas is really a swoon worthy hero. You can't help but to fall in love with this guy. Supporting characters were great. Really good book and I would recommend.

What a phenomenal book. Andrea has literally electrocuted me. This story zing-ed me. It zang-ed me. I felt the electricity!. This book is IT! Whitney and Lucas' story is hilarious and sweet and hot. Strippin', roadtrippin' and all the feels. Do yourself a favor and get this book. Andrea's writing style draws you in and never lets you go. It was hard to put this book down. I would have given it more stars, but I was limited to a measley five.

This was my first from this author.

If you love a slow burn romance, a friends to lovers, then this is for you. It wasn't for me. The nerdy girl and the hot guy with the heart of gold was a little cliche for me.
The storyline was not what I had been expecting so maybe that has something to do with the 3 stars review.
When Whitney leaves on a roadtrip a week out from her wedding with a guy she knew almost a decade ago, and her friends encouraged it, doesn't feel relatable or sensible. I wanted to invest more in the story but I just couldn't.

OMG! I loved this book! Sat and read it in one afternoon. Sweet. And, swoon-worthy ( I tend to say that a lot, but it’s so true with this one)! HOTTT! And, romantic. Lucas! What an Adonis! And, Whitney, I felt so bad for her. But, she’s a strong one. Loved their whole back story how they were friends their sophomore year of high school. You can’t go wrong with this one! So much fun:)

I Do, I Do, I Do. . .

Another great read from Andrea Johnston. I have been loving this Author and her work for a few years now. This latest release, I Don't is such a great read. The chemistry between the two mains characters, Whitney and Lucas is evident from the very beginning, going back to when they were teenagers. The supporting friends of both Whitney and Lucas were absolutely hysterical.
I was able to read this book in one sitting on a rainy long weekend... perfect reading weather!!

OMG I have never read a book that I wanted to turn into a movie so much before. Now dhn't get me wrong, I'm the last person that usually loves a "wedding" themed book. I'm 44 and I can't even remember the last wedding I attended.

I loved Whitney and Lucas, though for the first 1/3 of the book I wanted to give Whitney a nice shake. Nope, there wouldn't have been a few seconds before the wedding would have been off, after what Trenton did.

Nope, no thought, I don't care how pretty the dress was or how much money was spent.

Lucas though...Awww. He's a kind of Magic Mike. He is absolutely perfect. I mean, he's the kind of guy we all want. Sexy as hell, sweet and he's studying to be a doctor.

Really, he couldn't get more perfect, except that he does and even though he's perfect he doesn't feel too good to be true. Lucas is just the perfect guy. He does the nicest things from the very start. He doesn't have a jerky bone in his body. I nominate him for my next book boyfriend.

I also nominate Jessi as the best BFF in any book. We all need friends like her who have your back at all times.

I loved all the laugh out loud moments.

Sheer perfection!

My Lucas!!!

Quirky Wedding Planner meets Magic Mike. Loved this book. It was addicting from page 1. This book will make you go through the motions. I would laugh one moment and the next be on the edge. I need me a Lucas. My own Lucas. Lucas has this gigantor heart and he touches me more than any other MC has thus far this year. This is definitely a must-read.

I Don’t is my second book by Andrea Johnson and I can tell you she’s got a fan for life at this point. I literally have nothing but love for her writing style, plots and characters. I Don’t was a Rom-Com about friends reuniting years after they’d lost touch when the heroine catches her fiancé cheating just days before their wedding. It’s a fast read that drew me in as soon as I picked it up and I was hooked until the last word! I Don’t wasn’t so much an angsty read as it was more sweet and sexy with generous amounts of humor interjected within the story. It’s told in duel perspectives and I promise you this, anyone who reads Lucas and Whitney’s story will be completely head-over-heels for Lucas… I was! I feel like it would be completely impossible not to fall for him – he’s the perfect book boyfriend! Also, I foresee Andrea being responsible for a good amount of bail money for all the fights women are going to get into over her latest hero.

description

I Don’t is a bit of a roller-coaster of emotions. It will leave you smiling from ear to ear and laughing out loud, followed quickly by swooning and sweating over the passion and sheer sexiness of the chemistry between Lucas and Whitney. While the sparks were flying from the minute they reconnected, the story is a slow, delicious burn that left me hanging onto Andrea’s every word. Lucas is a strong character from the get go, but I loved the character progression we see within Whitney. She rediscovers herself and learns to put aside her preconceived ideas of perfection and in the process, she finds a far deeper love and partnership with Lucas than what she would have had with her ex-fiancé. I love romance novels and Andrea Johnson certainly knows how to write great romance. I would highly recommend I Don’t for anyone looking for an amazing story that you can read in one setting and enjoy humor blended with the sexy romances that Andrea is known for.

One of my favorite things to happen when I'm reading a book is for the story to surprise me. And this one did. I thought this was just going to a be a story about a woman who gets hurt and then realizes she loves a friend and they ride happily off into the sunset. I was wrong. And so glad I was.
This is the story of Whitney, a woman who has waited her whole life for her perfect wedding only to find that dream crumble around her as she catches her cheating fiance in the act. She goes for a girls night hoping to get him off her mind and figure out what she is going to do. They end up at a club with male strippers. And she gets a lap dance from her high school friend turned crush turned first big heartbreak, Lucas. His feelings of love towards her have never changed. As they reconnect as friends they start to see the truth in their own lives. This is not just a romance. Trust me there is plenty of that! But this is also a story of Whitney starting over. The life she thought she loved and was perfect was just a mirage. And she begins the journey to find herself and her own happiness. This story was awesome. I totally loved it. At first I was a little frusterated with Whitney who was having a hard time deciding if she wanted to still marry her fiance or not. I wanted to shake her and yell "he cheated on you!" But as the story unfolded I understood her thought process and feelings. And my heart broke for her. And that was the start of my bond with Whitney. As the story progressed I felt what she felt. This author is that good!
So go read it right now. It may just make you look at you in your life and what really is perfect for you.

So wedding season is upon us, and what better way to enjoy that then a wedding rom-com?

Whitney has been dreaming up the perfect wedding since she was ten. As she was heading to her bacherlette party, before having to turn around. She forgot her contact lenses. Walking into her house a unwanted sight greats her. Her fiance's secretary is on her knees giving her fiance a blow job. Just eight days before they are due to be married.

Her and her best friends still head out for a girls weekend- but she has to make a choice- go through with the wedding in hopes of the perfect life, or to give up on her dream wedding over one mistake. Enter Lucas.

Lucas and Whitney used to be best friends. He now works as a male stripper. Definitely not just the geeky science nerd Whitney remembers. They have a chance to reconnect their friendship - or a whole lot more when sparks fly.

Will there be an "I Do" in Whitney's near future, or will her I Do, turn into "I Don't?"

This book was light, fluffy, and fun. Lucas was hot and swoon-worthy, there was loads of sexual tension, and some tequila shots. And of course the drama. This book is a great summtime read filled with a road trip, puppies, stripping, and had a great list of songs (I mean, hello 80's music!) If you are looking for a fun read this summer pick up a copy of I Don't, and say I Do to a stripper (or two 😉). 4⭐ out of 5⭐.

I Don't is a standalone romantic comedy by Andrea Johnston. This is one of my favorite reads of 2018! It was a departure for Andrea in the sense that her writing style still holds the quirky, lovable banter that her readers have come to love but also showed a really raw emotional side of some characters. You see the proverbial warts and all which is awesome because it is messy (and funny) like real life.

Whitney has the perfect life, perfect fiancé Trenton and she has done everything she can to ensure that she has the picture perfect wedding.

BUT...

When a curve ball is thrown at Whitney's head, she has the choice of whether to dodge it or catch it and throw that shit back!

Enter Lucas DeCosta. Lucas and Whitney have known each other since high school and they have had a crush on each other for that long too. The chemistry is FIRE! Add in a road trip, puppies and a few male strippers and you have a great storyline. The characters are lovable, memorable and I found myself rooting for all of them as well as understanding some of their issues.

This is the perfect summer read with lots of laugh out loud moments. Seriously, don't drink anything while reading because you could spit it out laughing at some of the one liners.

I Don’t was just as sassy and sweet as I expected when it comes to Andrea Johnston.

This story started off with a bang and ended in a way that made me sigh with contentment. Whitney and her best friend, Jessi, were relatable and hilarious. Picture your real-life best friends and you’ll get it: yoga pants, take out, wine, reality tv, the works (AKA my kind of night).

Lucas DeCosta made for a swoony main man, with enough sweetness and a whole lot of sexiness to counteract the villain of the story. I loved how he handled balancing a difficult job with Whitney’s aversion to it with grace, plus the elements of nostalgia he sprinkled in to woo her. (Yes, I just said woo. Prepare to be wooed.)

All in all, a feel-good, relatable read that’s the perfect companion for summer vacay.

Whitney & Lucas are your next #relationshipgoals couple. Between Magic Mike, Lighting Strikes, and love that doesn't go away this is the absolute best book of the year. The best part was the drama at the beginning of the book, and I mean drama. That started the book off so fast I never wanted to put it down, I was so intrigued I had to find out what happened. I loved how much Jessi was a best friend to Whitney and never gave up on that while Whitney found herself. Jessi is a one in a million friend you would always want by your side. Not to mention a hot stripper friend, Johan! This book is romantic but you can't forget about the hot and sexy scenes.
