In the small mining town of Chloride, New Mexico Territory, four young men rob the bank and shoot the teller. As they ride down the street leaving town, a teen age boy and girl see their faces. Several shots were fired their way, the girl went down. David Graham knew he had to get a gun to protect himself and others. He wasn’t worth a crap with a pistol, but with a rifle he was among the best in the country. A rifle couldn’t be carried in his hands all the time. What he needed was a new gun. Yes, a new kind of gun. Leo Patterson, a close friend owned and ran the livery and blacksmith shop. An idea came to him, so he asked if David would leave his rifle with him for a while. When Leo was through, a new gun was built. Outlaws and gun manufactures wanted that rifle and the holster that held it to David’s right leg. Outlaws knew they would be unbeatable. Gun manufactures knew they could make millions with this new gun. It would be the best rifle/pistol to come out since the repeater. Leo’s father, owner of the Patterson Firearms Company sent two men all the way from Patterson, New Jersey to get that rifle, no matter the cost. Leo’s father turned out to be just as greedy as Leo remembered and knew he was.
Paul L. Thompson is an American author of Western novels. He was born and raised on a ranch in New Mexico. His work is deeply rooted in his personal experience as a cowboy, often featuring real geographical locations and historical details from the American Southwest between 1870 and 1912.
I have had the opportunity to read all of the Shorty Thompson series but this is one of the most endearing, and compassionate, story of all. Too, the suspenseful episodes throughout the entire book were perfectly descriptive enough to be overwhelmingly satisfying. Shorty's involvement certainly was impressive, as usual, and as always he downplayed his successful involvement!
Another five star masterpiece by this exceptionally talented author, who consistently goes above and beyond in his successful attempts to pacify his followers. This story is definitely a heartwarming adventure with plenty of exciting gunfighting episodes to satisfy the most demanding reader's undivided attention. The characters were perfectly selected for their assigned roles and effectively carried on their assigned roles, with perfection. Mr. Thompson's storylines successfully portrays compassion and concern from beginning to end. I was impressed with the entire story, as the author successfully researched this compassionate masterpiece before striking the first key. Definitely recommend this outstanding story to all of you western addicted readers, as the story is one more exciting representation of great American folklore adventures. Full of gunfighting episodes and definitely entertaining and heartwarming episodes of family friends and outlaws. If you like westerns, then you will love this endearing and family-friendly entertainment.😂
Mr. Thompson always tells a great tale. Don't miss this one. Now if he would only learn that dozed has no 's' and sole ( meaning only) is not spelled soul, plus a few other consistent errors, his books would be nearly perfect.
This is about the 8th book I have read by Paul. I now have a new Western hero called Shorty. I am a big Lamour fan and have read every thing he published. Now I have a long list to work on here with Paul. I like his treatment of the women of the west, good stuff. jack
Another hometown western of folks working together to improve life for themselves and the town; then you have those who are just sit around and figure how they can steal or rob to gain a foothold in hierarchy of those who ride the owlhoots trail. We all love and enjoy U. S. Marshal Shorty Thompson and his steed Dunne...ride easy folks.
The making of an interesting weapon a rifle or a pistol. This was a bit of both mad of a rifle. Paul L Thompson writes about a new gun and the reason for it's creation. This book has both humor and family problems in it as well as containing a love story.
