Our Own Road

Rate this book
Love and addiction are two things in this world that are nearly impossible to get over.

I fell for him as a kid and that love followed me into adulthood. I was always by his side, helping him when he needed it, but there comes a time when you have to turn your back on love, and work on yourself. It was hard, and it hurt but I hoped in the end, Cameron would become a better man because of it.

Our Own Road is the story of Cam and Free as they fight the battle of addiction. Told from both points of view the story covers Cam's fight to stay sober and Free's fight to help keep him that way. Anyone who has dealt with addiction knows that if the addict isn't doing it for themselves then they are bound to fail. It's a hard lesson for both parties to learn. Beautifully told story of the devastating effects addiction has on a relationship and the people that love them.

I'm completely blown away. Our Own Road is heavy, its deep, its painful, its beautiful, it powerful. All in all its just emotional AF!!!!

Addiction is such a heavy burden placed on loved ones; I know this as addiction runs rampant within my family. Loving them is sooo hard, it takes a toll I wish no one has to face, unfortunately I do understand that is not the case. Strother captured that pain, that devastation, that helplessness so impeccably, so beautifully from both sides.

I love Cameron, I wish I could jump into the pages and give him a big hug. His pain was felt all the way to my bones. His struggles through life, and through addiction were just sad. I felt for him, I really did, even when I was so mad at him for putting Freya through all he did. Right from the start, I could feel the love he had for her, knew it was the real deal. But, dang his demons owned him, and I was left an emotional wreck for him.

Freya, well she deserves sainthood, I'm not kidding. Cam, put her through the wringer, and everytime she let him, she loved him, she was there for him. Against everything she faced with him, she loved him. My heart just bled for her. She is so strong, even when she was at her lowest, she was strong. And, when she was compelled to do what she did, I was devastated for her. I wholeheartedly know what it took for her to do that, and when she did, I was just a mess. I couldn't have loved her anymore than I did in that moment.

And what Strother did with the ending was amazing. And how she got there, was just beautiful.

I totally recommend, that everyone reads this. I'm so in love with this book.

There is so many highs and lows in this book that you are captivated the through out the whole book and will never lose interest. It touches on some heavy, deep and painful topics but it was written so beautifully!

Freya and Cam's story will keep you on the edge of the seat! I hated Cam and loved him through out the whole story. I wanted to reach in so many times and hug him and tell him will be okay just stay strong. As for Freya I cried for her, maybe it was because I was once in her shoes and I had to help a love one over come an addiction and for them to go back to it time and time again. She has so much strength and love that she deserved so many medals and honors for everything she did and dealt with.

So many people can relate to this story and they be captivated it because you will truly see what its like in the mind of both the addict and loved one! CE Strother did a wonderful job on this story and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future!

It's not very often that I find a book that's so well written, so descriptive, and with characters I love, that I really don't like it. AND wish that I could give it more than 5 stars it was so good.
Our Own Road. Powerful. So very emotional. Brilliantly written. It made me cry - several times. That's why I didn't like it. I FELT the story.
This is a story of love between a couple. And the man and his drugs. And of the young woman having supported him through thick and thin, and eventually, having to make an awful choice.
I did not expect it to end the way it did. And for that, I am so grateful.
Highly recommended - just have the tissues handy!!!

This is one heck of an emotional story that you do not want to miss. Told from both Freya and Cameron’s viewpoints it’s a fantastic depiction of how much addiction affects all those involved, not just the addict. I am so glad I took a chance and read this story. It definitely changed my perspective on many things and packed a heck of an emotional punch with me.

Wow! What an emotional read! This is a beautiful story. Addiction affects everyone, not just the addict. This story literally drags you into the mayhem of an addicts life and the damage it inflicts. But through the fire you hang on and pray that you get through. You pray that things will change. This is a story of love lost, of heartache and pain. But it is also a story of redemption and hope. Amazing!!

This is a very heart touching story of a young couple who have had tragedy in their lives at young ages. Cameron has made decisions that would affect them both and Freya is always his rock. Until she can't be. This is a must read story.

Ugh...this one broke me.

My heart broke for Freya. She loves Cam so hard but sometimes love isn’t enough.

Freya and Cams story, individually and as a couple, is so heartbreaking. Both have been through a lot.

This story is so relatable for me. I know what it’s like to love an addict and it is definitely not easy. Cee Cee Strother did a great job writing this book. I look forward to reading more of her work!

This book tore me apart. I ugly cried so much I had to get up for more tissues. The detail and emotion was brilliant. The only thing I didn't like was that the end felt rushed. I wish there was more detail and invite into what really happens in a relationship after the sobriety. Overall though this was an excellent read and look forward to reading more by this author.

I was not prepared for this book. It took a direction that made me really squirm. I had to put it down and come back several times. It forced me to face some familiar truths and it was painfully beautiful. I find when a book makes you experience emotions on this level it is extraordinary. Well done.

This was a very emotional read for me as I've been in Freya's shoes in a past relationship. I loved how I could connect with her character and always being Cam's rock, always looking for the good when everything is going bad.... until she no longer can. I did however feel parts of the book were written repetitively, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I do think the author has amazing potential writing dark, raw and emotional storylines and will be looking forward to see what comes in the future!
