Trillium Bay #2

My Kind of Forever

Rate this book
As the youngest mayor Trillium Bay has ever elected, Brooke Callaghan wants to prove she’s up to the challenge. She’s stepping out of her practical teacher flats and into her sister’s treacherously high heels…with disastrous results. But if she’s going to (literally) stumble her first day on the job, why not fall into the arms of a handsome stranger?

Leo Walker is a rarity on Wenniway Island. Not only handsome, he’s also single, funny, and—most importantly—interested in Brooke. Unfortunately, his reasons for being on the island are temporary, so in spite of the undeniable chemistry between them, he’s not a forever kind of guy.

When a private investigator arrives with news of a jewel thief hiding on the island, Brooke finds herself dealing with one kerfuffle after another, and Leo proves to be a delicious distraction. What does she really know about him, though? And the biggest question of all? Does this short-term romance hold the possibility of long-term love?

My Kind of Forever is wonderfully romantic, heartwarming, book, filled with charm and humor! As always when I read one of the author’s books, I find myself chuckling throughout, and sighing as well! There is a bit of a mystery in this book, exposing long-held secrets! The characters and dialogue are impeccable; aside from the delightful main characters, the rest of the inhabitants bring their own quirky and fun personalities to the story.

MY KIND OF FOREVER (Trillium Bay #2) by Tracy Brogan is a charming contemporary romance. This cozy romance has an adult romance with no explicit sex, an endearing and funny heroine, a handsome newcomer, a quirky island population and a side mystery to be solved. This is the second book in this series, but it can be easily read as a standalone.

Brooke Callaghan is the new mayor of Trillium Bay on Wenniway Island. She is the first female and the youngest person to ever hold that position. It is quite a change from her role as a school teacher on the island, but she is excited about the challenge. Between her new job as mayor and dealing with all the town’s characters and her own extended family, she does not want to be attracted to this new, handsome stranger. Brooke wants forever, not just a few weeks.

Leo Walker is a newcomer to the island and is hired as a bartender at the local pub. He is handsome, single and interested in Brooke. Leo says he is on the island for a break after the security company he worked for closed down and to write a book. There is definitely chemistry between Leo and Brooke, but he will not commit to staying on the island.

A strange private investigator shows up in Trillium Bay and claims there is a jewel thief hiding on the island, but Brooke knows of no new islander except the new bartender. Rumors are all over town and everyone has a different tale to tell. What will Brooke do when she discovers long held secrets and the real reason Leo is on the island?

I loved Brooke and all of her family and friends. To have a friend that makes specialty pasties for dancers, a grandmother who wants to send the ashes of her exes up in fireworks and all the others island characters had me laughing several times throughout the story. This is a cozy romance with a mystery thrown in that surprised me with its resolution. I will definitely be looking for more to read from the entertaining Trillium Bay series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book via Netgalley

So this is not a first book from Tracy Brogan, I've read some before, but this one I didn't like.
This is a chick lit. Only kissing scenes.
This story is so much slow paced, finally I was in need of some songs from Iron Madden, beautiful voice of Bruce Springsteen didn't help me to get through this book!!
I didn't like heroine, she was 36 but she thinks of herself poor. Her two other sisters are beautiful and sexy, and she thinks of herself like "plain teacher"... At her 36 she doesn't have any sexy lingerie, thinking "I don't have a bf, I don't need anything, only cheap outfits"...
She became a mayor of this small community. The place is a small island, and there are some very annoying SCs...
I wish I could get the hero's POV. He lied to her from the beginning.
There is no cheating, no OP scenes

This is the second book in the Trillium Bay series. When I received an offer from the publisher to read and review, via Net-Galley, I eagerly accepted. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.

This book has a great deal to offer. he small—town aspect is well done. Ms. Brogan’s writing is clean and flows well. The characters are engaging, including the secondary characters. The plot is unique, and there are a lot of delightfully humorous moments.

The heroine’s character is enjoyable for the most part. She certainly has plenty of energy and wants to do a great job as the new mayor. However, her lack of self-esteem made it hard for me to imagine her running a success campaign to win an elected seat. To me, it seems out of character. Nonetheless, I found her appealing and wanted her to find her happy ending.

As a hero, Elliot is a mixed bag. He isn’t a straight up guy with her and hides secrets even after they become romantically involved. Those flaws make it hard for me to admire him. Although, he does redeem his character by the end of the book.

The romance between the hero and heroine is strong and I enjoyed how their relationship developed. The chemistry is fairly intense at times, the love scenes are based more in the emotions than their physical attraction, not that there’s any lack of that.

If you enjoy a romance with engaging characters and plenty of humor, then you will enjoy Ms. Brogan’s newest offering. Although this one was not as enjoyable as the first book in the series, I still enjoyed it and will read the next book when it comes out. Happy reading!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and as I adored the first book, I had no hesitation in requesting this one! I think that the just-off-the-mainland Island romance novel lends itself to some wonderful characterisations, and this series is no exception. The pace is also slow, sweet and drama can be magnified.

Brooke is, let's be honest, a bit of a mess. She has become mayor and has to adjust to the role, just as she finds someone who interests her, Leo. Cue her big chance, twice over. Her path in both cases is not smooth, and her ambitions, whilst modest, require her to step outside her comfort zone, and rely on some really fun islanders. I liked that Emily, Ryan and Gigi from book 1 are there to support her ambitions, and to remind her that things can work out.

Tracey Brogan does a fine job of converting small island life into an easy read, thank you. Looking forward to the last sister, Lily, getting her HEA too!

The delightful second installment in the author’s Trillium Bay saga…

Tracy Brogan’s My Kind of Forever is the delightful second installment in her Trillium Bay saga set in the small town of Trillium Bay located on Wenniway Island off the coast of Michigan. The island is famous for its fudge and has one grand hotel called the Imperial Hotel. Automobiles aren’t allowed on the island. It’s a tourist’s mecca during the summer, but in the wintertime, the residents, who mostly sport old Irish roots, take center stage. This entry stars science-school-teacher-turned-new-mayor Brooke Callaghan and private investigator Leo Walker. They are backed up by a colorful array of quirky residents whose antics will undoubtedly keep you chuckling throughout.

As the story opens, we catch up with Brooke on her way to experience her first day as the town’s new mayor. Even though she has no political experience, she is determined to show that she’s up to taking on the town’s mayoral position by making a questionable fashion choice. Instead of wearing her normal comfortable shoes, she elects to wear her sister’s mountain-top high heels. Not only do they not fit her, but she quickly finds that the heels are not a great choice to navigate the town’s cobblestones. However, the scene does make for a hilarious opening salvo and a first-meeting-to-remember as she literally topples into our hero’s arms when her heels malfunction.

Brooke certainly has her hands full as the new mayor. First, the former mayor abruptly quits without showing her a thing. She swiftly learns that he hated technology and desperately needed the organizing skills of Marie Kondo. Secondly, corralling the members of the crazy, opinionated city council is a formidable task on its own. AND the city council meetings are held at the town’s bar where Leo just happens to be the sexy new bartender so Brooke can’t let him distract her. Good luck with that!

In the previous book, Brooke seemed standoffish and not very friendly. However, this tale showed a completely different side to her as it incorporated her back-story which went a long way in explaining the Brooke we see today. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for me to warm up to her. That said, it is not necessary to read the first book to fully enjoy My Kind of Forever.

Leo is charming and good-looking from the get-go. Brooke can’t help but be attracted to him especially after he draws her in by claiming to be an aspiring author. But, she was burned badly in a prior relationship and is gun-shy about being hurt again. Besides, Leo doesn’t plan to stay on the island and Brooke is a six-generation resident who doesn’t want to leave her home, family and friends. Still, the chemistry is strong between these two.

Following please find a few of my favorite lines from My Kind of Forever:

“Never trust anything you hear from an old Irishman,” my grandmother Gigi always said, and she should know because she’d married and buried three of them.”
---
“I’m Bill Smith, private investigator from Miami, Florida.”
“Private investigator?”
Shari glanced over at me.
“Yes, from Miami, Florida,” he said again, as if that were significant. “I’m looking for a man.”
“Oh, honey, aren’t we all?”
---
“May I suggest a nonbinding vote to see where everyone stands on the issue of launching dead bodies into the sky?”
---
All signs pointed to there not being much hope of a future for us, but maybe I could just worry about that little detail tomorrow. Tonight, I’d have just one little kiss. I looked into Leo’s ocean-blue eyes until mine fluttered shut and he’d closed that tiny distance between us.
His lips were warm on mine, the kiss soft at first but quickly intensifying. Probably because I’d wrapped my arms around his shoulders as if he were the only thing holding me upright, and maybe he was.

My Kind of Forever is a lovely, heartwarming contemporary romance teeming with laugh-out-loud moments and small-town drama where everyone knows or wants to know everyone else’s business. This tale unfolded well and the conclusion will leave you with a happy smile. Add in a bit of suspense with a possible jewel thief on-the-run in the town and I found this to be a highly entertaining romp.

A good story with an island full of quirky characters. I especially loved Gigi. Brooke is the newly elected mayor and the old mayor stepped down instead of waiting. Now she is in charge before she is quite ready. On her way to her first town council, she loses a shoe and meets a great looking guy. When she next encounters him, he is the new bartender. He is only on the island temporarily, but she can't help but wish he would be permanent. Leo takes the job as a bartender to get information, but he really is attracted to Brooke. Will he be able to keep her once Brooke finds out his real reason for being there? Will he want to stay?

Who is Leo and why is he on Wenniway Island? And what's this about a jewel thief? Brooke is the newly elected mayor and she's got a big job modernizing things. She's also got a history of bad relationships. You know, don't you, that when she meets Leo cute that things are going to heat up (not a lot but enough to keep you reading). Will there be a HEA? My one quibble with this was Brooke's negativity about herself; she's 36 and she won an election so she should push back her shoulders and buy herself new clothes. Thanks to net galley for the ARC.

Brooke Callaghan, the new mayor of trillium bay is aiming to bring changes on the Island and in people's mind. She doesn't have time for distractions, especially if the distraction is a sexy bartender. Leo Walker is new on Island and is looking for peace and quite to write a book. They have an undeniable chemistry which Brooke is trying to deny with all her might. No one is listening to her ideas at the council meeting. She is envious of her sister and her perfect love life. A jewel thief is on the Island according to the rumors.
I loved the book. “My kind of forever” is the second book in the series. I will definitely read the other book too. Every character is so in-depth and collectively they make a big (somewhat happy?) family. The Island is full of ordinary people having ordinary lives but the writer‘s style of writing has made them special. The best thing about this novel was Brooke‘s way of thinking. It was humorous even in serious situations. The Jewel thief made me more involved in the book.

Come back and visit Trillium Bay on Wenniway Island and enjoy the antics of the island's cast of happy characters!

As newly elected mayor, Brooke Callaghan is on a mission to improve the island's year-round appeal. But will she be able to convince the city council that it's in the island's best interests? And speaking of interest, there's a handsome and mysterious man on the island that captures her attention..and actually catches her when she falls out of her sister's high heels! Can she take a chance on romance with Leo, or is she better off not taking a chance at all? Oh, and add in the rumor of a jewel thief hiding on the island, and everyone is speculating on who it could be.

Lovable characters, beautiful setting, and well crafted, this book will appeal to all lovers of romance.

I had the privilege of reading an ARC of the second book in the Trillium Bay series. Tracy Brogan takes us back to Wenniway Island and the Callahan family. This is Brooke’s story. As the oldest of three, Brooke has always felt responsible for her sisters and the family since her mother died when she was fourteen. Brooke is taking over as mayor of Wenniway Island at the end of the Blackwell dynasty of mayors after being one of three teachers on the island for 12 years . As she faces the challenges of bringing the island’s government into the 21st century, she also is dealing with the rumor of a jewel thief being on the island. Enter Leo Walker, ex-military/personal security/budding author. He shakes up her world in a way that she had given up on.

Tracy Brogan uses her cast of quirky characters to tell a great story that is hard to put down. The characters are easy to relate to and root for. My Kind of Forever works as a stand alone novel, but for those who want more should read the first book in the series, My Kind of You.

Juggling her new job as mayor, the town gossips, her sisters and grandma's love life, and being thirty-six and single is more than what a girl can stand. Brooke is at the crossroads where the decisions she makes now will define the rest of her life.

This book is both endearing and full of all those quirky characters that make life fun. This island is a world upon itself. Traversing the complications that come with knowing everyone's business, and having your own business exposed, makes for a wonderful plotline. Things around town become even more interesting with the advent of strangers: the new bartender, a private investigator searching for a jewel thief, and a mysterious beautiful woman that has men dropping their jaws to the ground. As a mayor, Brooke has to dig deep in her fortitude to withstand all these changes to her town. Remember, she is the mayor and has to protect her people (and herself)!

Love the sense of adventure in Brooke. This is a clean and safe read with enough detail to have you swooning. Fans of Marie Force and her Gansett Island series will love reading this series.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the publisher for sharing a copy with me.

I love returning to Trillium Bay and this was no exception. Brooke is the new mayor and has a lot to prove to this little quaint town. Leo has arrived in town temporarily under false pretenses but can not deny the chemistry between him and Brooke. The only problem is Leo does not do forever. Soon long held secrets come out in regards to a jewel thief living on their small island, that Brooke deals with the help of postmaster, Shari. Now the reason of Leo on the island, comes out and will Brooke be able to forgive him.

Loved this story, had me laughing out loud many times. Wonderful characters with great dialogue. Love the quirky residents of this town. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend.

This is the first Tracy Brogan book I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The residents of Trillium Bay are quirky, funny and very hilarious. Leo and Brooke were clearly meant to be together even if huge obstacles were conspiring to keep them apart. I'd totally recommend this book to all romance readers as it was a beautiful read.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Brooke just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to life and love. Leo has arrived in Trillium Bay during the off season but is really on the up-and-up? There’s a rumor going around town about a jewel thief being on the island- but how does Leo fit in this equation.

This book had some romance and chick lit feel. I personally think that the people of Trillium Bay need to find something to do besides drinking. (There was A LOT of alcohol consumed within the pages of this book. This consumption also led to Brooke’s biggest mistake of opening her heart to Leo. Will he ever be able to redeem himself???

This is part of a series and it is actually the third one, when I agreed to read this I did not know that but I didn't feel lost. Anyhoo we meet Brooke and she has been part of this small town for a long time, her family has been there for decades. She has been made mayor and she really has her work cut out for her trying to bring this town up to date or in this century. Here comes a new comer interested in her and due to her bad experiences and her woe is me attitude she is reluctant. We have some mystery thrown in, some humor and eventually some happiness. It was a little slower than I normally like, but I still enjoyed...

If you like quirky, small-town romances, you’ll really enjoy this novel about a fictional Northern Michigan island community. Think of Mackinaw Island with a slightly bigger population, but the same laws banning cars. The place is just full of oddball characters and sort-of presiding over the craziness is newly elected mayor, Brooke Callaghan. Brooke is single, not because she wants to be but because there is a very small dating pool in this small community. But there is a new hunky, handsome, and charming bartender in town, Leo Walker. And he is definitely interested in romancing Brooke. The only problem is that he’s temporary.

Brooke and Leo are fun and anyone in her mid-30s who has had trouble finding potential dating prospects can relate to Brooke’s loneliness and the appeal of a fling with an appealing guy even if there is no hope of forever. Or is there?

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I'm a huge fan of Tracy Brogan's books unfortunately this one not so much. It's a sweet chick lit story that is just a little too cute and silly for my taste. Of course the writing is exceptional with well developed characters but I found the pace of the story slow with several parts too drawn out. Overall not a bad book but not one I really enjoyed.

This is a sweet story about Brooke Callaghan, a teacher and lifelong resident of Trillium Bay, who now finds herself as the new mayor; and Leo Walker, a new to town bartender/writer, who has certainly caught Brooke's eye. Sparks fly when these two meet but Leo is not permanent and Brooke doesn't really want a quick fling. Can she let herself have what she wants despite the end date she knows they have?
When it turns out Leo may have been less than honest about his reasons for being there, Brooke is rightfully angry with him. Can they find a way to overcome his betrayal and pick up where they left off?
This small island town is full of quirky people that will surely make you laugh or at the very least shake your head. They are certainly an interesting bunch. Look forward to more from this series.

This is the second book in the Trillium Bay series but can be read as a standalone. Brooke Callahan is the new mayor of Trillium Bay and determined to make positive changes. Leo is a new transplant to the small town but he is waiting on a few job offers elsewhere so his time in Trillium Bay is short. Because of this Brooke is hesitant to start anything with him despite their chemistry. Can they make a fling work or will someone get hurt? This book was a fun and entertaining light read with a bit of a mystery. This story is a bit predictable in spots but overall a really good read. 4 stars.

This was my fist by this author. I really enjoyed it! It seemed to have a little bit of everything. The story was funny, romantic, and sexy with some mystery, danger and quirky characters thrown in for good measure.
Ms. Brogan had me from the very beginning when Brooke, who was wearing her sister's clothes and shoes to her first meeting as mayor, manages to flip her high heel into a pile of horse manure. The hero, sexy Leo comes up behind her and says something like, "Need some help, Cinderella?". Yep, I was hooked! Totally loved it!

It's been awhile since a book made my heart swoon. That good 'ole, get caught up in a book and the characters feelings to where you feel genuine empathy.....like they were your friend. That's what this book did for me. From how utterly relatable Brooke was, to how genuine in her feelings for everyone were, just hit me with all the feels. A book worth picking up <3
