Libby's BFF doesn't have time for her, her secret crush has no idea she exists, and she's in danger of failing science. She doesn't think her life can possibly get any more complicated, until a ghostly pale girl moves in next door. Every time Libby tries to talk to Julia, she has a strange way of disappearing. And when Libby sees the words Help Me scrawled on Julia's bedroom window, she starts to suspect that something creepy - supernatural, even - is going on. Can she find a way to help Julia when her own life is such a mess?
When she was in kindergarten, Suzanne Nelson jotted down in a school keepsake album that she wanted to be a “riter.” Though she clearly had issues with spelling, she persisted, composing cryptic poems about rainbows, fairies, mud, and even "Star Wars" in spiral notebooks all through elementary school. When she was seventeen, she filled four journals with her handwritten first novel, titled “The Dream Keeper.” To escape her chores, she often lied to her parents about what time her shift started at the local fast food joint so that she could spend an extra hour writing in the parking lot in her mom’s faded Buick. Her first published novel was The Sound of Munich, followed by Heart and Salsa, The Ghoul Next Door, Cake Pop Crush, and Dead in the Water. She is a shameless fan of “The Sound of Music,” Hershey’s kisses, Charlotte Bronte, and Jane Austen, and can often be caught daydreaming of romping about gothic castles in lovely Victorian gowns. She was born in New Jersey, grew up in Southern California, attended college in Texas, and spent eight years as a children’s book editor in New York City. She now lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut with her family.
One of my third graders absolutely raved about this book and then asked if I would read it. It's a lot of typical middle school realistic fiction with some weird scary fantasy mixed in. Written about as well as 50 Shades is...
And here's what is hilarious: this book has a 4.58 average rating. Some of the most beloved classics are way below that!!! What does this tell you? The people rating these books are probably ten years old. And that is hilarious.
I really enjoy these books even though they are not geared toward my age, I still enjoy them since they are ghost and horror themed and I love that. I really recommend this book if you too enjoy scary things are not too scary haha
I found this with some of my old books - I remember loving the Poison Apple Series as a kid.
I just finished reading it today, probably have before but I could only remember the faintest idea of the book.
I thought it was super interesting - written well from the perspective of a young girl in middle school who’s going through a crisis!! Life is hard already and then there’s something supernatural going on to add to it 🙂↔️🪦
Lol it takes me back to my years in middle school so I do always enjoy this series - giving this one 4/5 ⭐️ because it hasn’t surpassed my favourite book from the series, but still love it. 🤭
Read this back in elementary, rereading it now for fun...unironically SO GOOD. The imagery and language during the scary scenes was amazing, it's fairly realistic and only a little cringe (a feat in of itself considering it was made in 2011), and a good moral at the end. Only thing I would say was a negative was how brushed over SPOILERS
The fact Julia practically killed kara. It made it seem like oh it was soo sad and heartbreaking aw poor Julia! Even though she literally caused her friend to DIE over a bracelet. Only issue with this book.

this book is amazing my older cousin in sixth grade saw me reading it and asked what it was about and of course after I told her what it was about she asked to read it after me
The Ghoul Next Door by Suzanne Nelson. I liked the book because it had a good ending, and the book always had you guessing what's going to happen next. The main setting is Libby's house. The main characters of this book is Libby, Adam, Julia, and Nina. In this book there are many conflicts. Libby is failing in science and has to have Adam tutor her. Libby is dreading it because she thinks Adam is just the weird nerdy kid. But she finds out that there is more to him. Libby's best friend, Nina, ditched her to go and hang out with the popular kids, but Nina is not acting like herself around these people. In the end Libby gets her best friend back. While Julia and her parents just moved into the house next door, but no one knows that she exists , excepts for Libby. Libby starts seeing Julia outside of her house saying shes trapped and she can't stay out for long. And Libby starts having nightmares of Julia. Like Julia is haunting Libby. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries. I would recommend this book because it is a good book, and very mysterious.
This book is ok. I mean, it's a pretty short book, but being a poison apple book, it's pretty interesting and descriptive. To sum it up, girl hates life, she meets ghost girl, ghost girl tells her to get a bracelet from the bottom of the lake for dead BFF, girl almost drowns, she sees the dead BFF, returns the bracelet to ghost girl, ghost girl lives again, girl gets date and old BFF, THE END
I loved this book for its thrilling moments. Nextdoor neighbors move in and Libby starts to see things and dream things. She soon finds Julia is a ghost that needs her help. Whoever loves supernatural and creepy based books,i bet you'd love this book!
Reread it..Loved it! As always. Honestly I kinda forgot some of the story so i'm glad i reread it! Wonderful book! READ IT!!
