"Practicing Servant Leadership: Succeeding Through Trust, Bravery, and Forgiveness" by Larry Spears is a must-read for anyone interested in leadership development. Spears is a renowned author and speaker on the topic of servant leadership, and this book is a testament to his expertise and experience.
The book is divided into three parts, each focusing on one of the core principles of servant leadership: trust, bravery, and forgiveness. The author masterfully weaves together theory and practical advice, using real-life examples to illustrate his points. Here are 10 insights I gathered from my reading!
1. The most important thing is love
2. The Path to servanthood requires moving away from ego
3. Not much happens without a dream
4. Collaboration can lead to new ideas and approaches to problem-solving.
5. Reflection reaffirms our Passions
6. Stewardship encourages us to remember that we serve more than just our customers
7. The vision statement marks the beginning, not the end, of the visioning process that is continuous & ongoing in an organization
8. Forgiveness builds relational trust in an organization
9. The ability to love and have meaningful relationships is interconnected, and the existence of a ‘one size fits all’ approach can hinder the development of genuine connections between individuals
10. We need to move from the leader as hero to the leader as host
