Laura Driscoll is the author of numerous first chapter and beginning reader books, including We Are Twins and The Bravest Cat! She lives in central Connecticut with her husband and two children.
Was I learning math in this book? I didn't even know it was such a fun, tension-filled adventure to see if they mice would finish cleaning up in time.
The only thing I would change is I would invert the gender stereotype in the text where the girl goes for the books and the boy goes for the more active toy. We need to be mindful as adults to make sure we have the same reading expectations of boys that we do of girls. If we constantly reinforce that it is the boys' role to be active, we can't be surprised when their reading skills lag, which they are.
This book inspires me to have a look at the rest of the series. Thanks, Mathical Award, for introducing me to it.
Cute little book that lays out the basic idea of sorting and matching. All the toys have been knocked over, and everything has to go back where it was!
It explains that there are different kinds of sorting (by color, by size, etc.) but also that you need to know how to sort before you start a task (the little mice have to re-sort because they didn't know this!).
Very cute way of getting the idea across to the very little ones!
