(Digital and print editions EDITED - thanks to reader reviews!) She'd moved to L.A. straight out of college, but the closest Meghan Linden had come to Hollywood was the view from her office window. So, when her best friend sets her up to audition for the pilot of a new sitcom, Meghan is hardly amused... That is, until she's cast as the anonymous narrator for the show. Now, she's juggling a secret identity, avoiding the press, and trying to hide a crush on the man who now controls her Ryder Christianson, lead writer of "Truth in Advertising". When it all goes public, will laughter finally lead Meghan to love? Taking a lead from successful debut novels like "Party Girl" by Rachel Hollis and "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyers, this is the rare romance that leaves the sex to the imagination... while still delivering the heat and the heart. If you enjoy a sweet, modern happily ever after love story that doesn't spare the snark, you will love Hidden in the Writer's Room.
This cute rom-com had me from the first page and fuzzy Texas Longhorn slippers. Megan and Ryder have an adorable meet cute in a coffee shop when her best friend doesn’t show and she walks up to smack a kiss on a random stranger she thinks is said best friend (so funny.) It turns out the guy she accidentally kissed is a producer on a show that her best friend sends her to audition for and she becomes the show’s super-secret narrator, the Mystery Blogger. I loved the industry stuff, all the writer’s room and set details, and especially the TEXAS JOKES. Seriously, every Texan needs to read this, you’ll die laughing. Megan and Ryder become friends, but there is clearly something more simmering below the surface on set. This is a cute clean romance that absolutely sizzled. Bring on book two!
Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.
I enjoyed this credible and clever, inside-look at the making of a fictitious television sit-com as the back-drop for a slow-building romance. Meghan is cast on a hit show, but her role as an off-screen narrator is anonymous, and she must keep the secret from her family and friends. Meanwhile, her attraction to the show's head-writer, who she believes is clearly out of her league, proves to be a distraction, especially when they form a friendship. This clean story is a wonderful choice for fans of romance and/or show business.
This is my 4-star review of Hidden in the Writer's Room by Michelle L.E. Price.
I enjoyed this book, because I could relate to Meghan’s “accountant from Texas” alter ego. Haha. When she was at her day job, I totally felt her pain with how mundane the daily routine of working in an accounting firm could be. And I completely identified with choosing accounting as a major in college because it was the “responsible thing to do”. The story of my life...
I really enjoyed the romantic build up between Meghan and Ryder. I thought they would make a cute couple and I wondered why it took them *so long* to finally get together. They’d been working together for almost three years by the end of the book (I hope I got that timeline right).
The detail the author included regarding the “backstage” process of producing a television show was so interesting; I found myself wondering if she has first-hand experience with it.
I removed half a star because of typos. Typos really pull me out of the story. (I'm sorry!)
I removed the other half of the star because of the description of the writer’s room. It was just...too much. I was torn between skipping it, and reading it, but I ended up reading it because I thought “well, maybe there’s something that’s going to be critical later”, but there really wasn’t. I totally understand wanting to set the stage so your reader isn’t drawing a complete blank when a character enters a new space, but there was so much description and detail that it was almost painful.
That being said, I really enjoyed this book and quickly picked up the follow-up after finishing it. Well done, Michelle!
That was a cute story. I wish the end would have been longer, but at least I got the ending I was hoping for. The story in itself brought back memories for me from my time living in San Diego trying to fulfill my dream of becoming an actress. I always loved acting and pretending to be someone else and driving to LA a lot for auditions made that all so much more exciting. Although I can’t relate to Meghans real job, accounting (math) is totally not my thing, 🤫 but I can relate to her dreams and love how the romance started. It is a wonderful story, clean and definitely worth every star. ❤️
So basically I started reading this one because I needed an easy engaging romance to read alongside my other read, and as this one is 155 pages, I figured it would be perfect. And I did fall in love with the love story straight away.
It hugely appealed to the ex-Actor in me as there was a page of a script and then reviews of the show/quotes throughout; it closes with the page of a script too.
I really liked Meghan's character though I don't understand how she could keep the secrets she did; I definitely would have at least shared with my best friend and family, so I found that part slightly unrealistic.
I definitely enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second but I'm not sure why as the second half also consisted of everything I love. Maybe it was just my own mindset at the time.
But all of the relationships and bonds in this were fantastic and I'm so pleased that I also have the sequel ready to read as I'm excited to know what happens to both Ryder and Meghan next
I loved how unique this book was. It had a great storyline. I struggled with losing interest at times because it felt like it was slowing down and some of their problems were a bit unrealistic in my opinion. Overall, it was an enjoyable read!
This is exactly the kind of book I like to read. A Sunday well spent with this light, easy-read rom-com. I loved the characters, clever plot, and witty writing style. I'll be downloading the sequel straight away.
I loved this story and the original plot! (How refreshing to read a storyline that's NOT been done over and over.) Meghan was a fun, realistic, heroine juggling a mundane "real-life" job with a side job as a voice over actress on a TV show. Ryder is the adorable, quirky, head writer on this TV show and the way they first meet is even cute. With lovable and loyal Glen and Brian as Meghan's friends, some interesting late night phone conversations between Meghan and Ryder, and paparazzi thrown in too, I would highly recommend this book for a fun, lighthearted, and unique read!
The only drawback I found were some annoying proofreading errors throughout the book.
Thanks to the author, Michelle L.E. Price, her publisher, and goodreads for the free kindle copy of this book. The opinions are all my own. I will be watching for another book by this author.
What does it take to chase your dreams? Sometimes our fears keep us from pursuing what, deep down, is our heart’s desire. To face our fears, even if not as soon as we maybe should have, takes courage. And perhaps, some trust and friendship. I liked Meghan and could understand some of her fears. Being famous is something I would never want.
I found myself skimming several times because the detail in description was more than I typically can enjoy. But, all in all, Price is a strong writer and I learned things about shows and Hollywood behind-the-scenes that I never knew. I’ll definitely be reading the next one in this series.
I greatly enjoyed this book. I loved the main character Meghan, she was smart, likable, and funny. Also getting to know more about the making of a tv show was very interesting. Her relationship with Ryder was sweet and I liked how you could tell they cared about each other even if they were blind to the fact themselves. I also liked how the author made Meghan's life very well-rounded. You learned about her job, her friends, and her family. Making the romance a part of her life rather than her whole life made for a more interesting read. I always like it when writers do that! Overall, I had a fun time with Hidden in the Writer's Room it is a well-written book with a lot of heart.
This sweet romance made for an enjoyable weekend afternoon read. As someone who works in the same field as the main character, I enjoyed the relatable insights into being a full-time writer while juggling a side gig. Meghan’s side hustle has to stay on the down low and that’s where the tension and conflict lies. Thumbs up for the insiders’ peek of TV production (I’d totally watch Truth in Advertising!) and the cast of characters that kept the story moving, especially in the stronger second and third acts.
This was kind of a breath of fresh air. A nice clean read. Some cursing, but not so much. I enjoyed the storyline and the banter between characters. It kept my attention, and I wanted to keep reading when I had to put it down. My only problems with this book was the author being too descriptive (lengthy) at times and several typos. Most of those were noticed near the end of the book. I would recommend this book.
What a great plot! I was pleasantly pleased with this book. The titled made me think that the story would drag out. The title is fitting but the story is fun and entertaining. Treat yourself to this book.
As much as I love this story, I did lose interest from time to time when Things got a little too sappy, but overall it’s a great story super fun and interesting, and it’s not overly sweet and it’s really grounded
The secret life of a writer as she hides her new gig as she juggles her day job as she lives in her new life in Los Angles. Like how both worlds do not go as plan or as smoothly as one hope for. Amusing but short read at times as the plot could have been better.
Quick and easy read, a happy ending love story. It had interesting characters, but at some places it was a bit too unrealistic and not too fast moving. I liked the friendship lines in the background, and her connection to her parents.
I got the book from a Goodreads giveaway, thank you!
There were things that I liked about this book and the overall storyline was cute. And yet, I spent most of the time reading it not loving it. It was decent, but it just didn't pull me in the way I'd hoped. There was excessive descriptions, especially of her apartment, which I could already imagine after the first paragraph but still had to read several pages about. Overall, it just wasn't really for me, but if you're looking for a fun storyline with some sassy characters and lots of description to really imagine every detail in various settings, this is the book for you!
Confession: I've read this book 3 times now, and only just realized my review didn't save after the first time I read it. 🙄 Anyway, I love this story so much. Price is a master at the slow burn. The story itself is so well written and creative, I couldn't get through the pages fast enough. The entire cast of characters was fun and everyone had their unique personality. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter never failed to crack me up. There were many laugh out loud moments, and even more chuckles. Now I own this in paperback and ebook because I adored it so much. So excited for Brice's story!
