Claudia Nice, a native of the Pacific Northwest, attended the University of Kansas, but gained her realistic pen, ink, and watercolor techniques from sketching nature.

She spent over 15 years traveling across North America for Koh-I-Noor/Rapidograph and more recently Grumbacher as an art consultant, conducting seminars, work shops, and demonstrations at various schools, clubs, shops, and trade shows. Her relaxed, informative method of instruction is geared to put the beginner at ease, and encourage the seasoned artist to new heights.

Claudia has authored over a dozen successful books, including "Creating Textures in Pen & Ink With Watercolor." This fully illustrated text book was not only a Northlight "Book of the Month," but a best seller for F & W Publications. Her art work has won numerous awards and is often found in leading art instruction magazines.

Советую читать после ее же "Sketching Your Favorite Subjects in Pen & Ink". Здесь теория дана более широко.

Great book on pen and ink technique!

The best parts of this book are the parts that show you crosshatching with detailed illustration. Because pen and ink is high contrast there are no muddied illustrations of blended colors or chapters on color theory in the book.

Well detailed, instills confidence if you put in work after the practise, and look over the notes and drawings, basically what is meant to be done anyway in learning to draw. Not too wordy, fairly descriptive.

The first book I got on how to draw with pen & ink. Unlike Rendering in Pen and Ink, this is a good book for beginners. Claudia Nice talks about drawing surfaces, types of inks as well as paints, and various kinds of pens. In contrast to the aforementioned book, this book emphasizes the technical pen more than the nib pen, though the techniques illustrated can be used with any type of ink pen.

The exercises in the book involving control, practice, and seven basic type of mark making are VERY handy and are worth the price of the book alone. The rest of the text has advice for drawing and various exercises to sharpen your skills.

Once you follow the advice in this book, you'll be ready to wow others with your drawing.

There are people who enjoy so-called "coffee-table-books". Not me! Pass me a book like this and I'll be entertained!
I absolutely love seeing the process whereby an artist gently drafts and then sketches more and more darkly until the end-product has been reached. I find contrast: Dark/light, as well as the pen (or pencil) strokes that create an image truly beautiful. When I come across a book like this one, I wish (again) that I'd learnt how to do it properly years ago.
... and yes, of course I've used some of the images for my cards! https://www.instagram.com/p/CnrgsPtKA...

I learned a lot about drawing from this book. Although it's supposed to teach about pen and ink, I was able to get some great ideas from it for drawing with graphite pencils. Unfortunately for me, I'm not really good with ink. It seems that I need an eraser a lot more often than I care to admit.

What's most useful about this book is information on how to draw various textures. On the other hand, it's nothing you would not find on YouTube, so I'm not entirely sure if it's worth paying for.

The other good thing is a recommendation to look into ink wash painting, which I just might do.

I got this book from the library last week and went through many of the lessons and learned quite a bit. Several drawings I completed looked like replicas of the ones in the book.
