Jeff Bezos: In His Own Words

Rate this book
Jeff Bezos started Amazon in 1994 as an online bookstore based out of his garage. Since then, the ever-expanding enterprise has revolutionized shopping and, in many important ways, invented e-commerce as we know it. Today, Amazon is the third-most valuable company in the world, and Bezos's vast customer-oriented empire has mushroomed to include everything from cloud computing and fresh food delivery to movie production and consumer electronics. In recent years, Bezos also has invested in rocket technology, newspaper publishing, and artificial intelligence. Every arm of Bezos's business, however, is guided by a fundamental to give customers what they want before they even think to ask for it.

Jeff In His Own Words offers a unique look into the mind of one of the world's most successful entrepreneurs by collecting more than 500 of Bezos's quotes on business, technology, customer service, e-commerce, innovation, entrepreneurship, and more. Meticulously curated from interviews, speeches, shareholder letters, press releases, and other sources, this book creates a comprehensive picture of Jeff Bezos, his obsessions, and what makes his ventures thrive.

After more than 20 years at the helm of Amazon and its subsidiaries, Bezos continues to operate on what he calls "Day One time" in order to maintain the early experimental spirit of his business. Since the beginning, when he first saw the potential of the internet as a powerful tool for commerce, he has looked for trends and technologies that can alter not just business but daily life. Jeff In His Own Words reveals in detail a man who wants to push the future forward―and will inspire readers to do the same.

If you like Jeff Bezos, I would say that you should read this book. The book presents Jeff's words that are really interesting. It's short and not take a very long time to finish. It's worth your time.

There are over 500 of Bezos quotes on business, technology, customer service, e-commerce, innovation, entrepreneurship and more. As Bezos continues to operate on what he calls “Day one” in order to maintain the clearly experimental spirit of his business. This was an excellent accompanying book with 1) All Amazon Shareholder Letter by Jeff Bezos and 2)The Everything Store by Jeff Bezos and the age of Amazon by Brad Stone.
Epilogue: The Lee family’s 2019 Christmas shopping was done mainly at the amazon.com, and one of the gifts that I received, I did not care and knew that I could return it. When I went to the web page to return, it not only refund $ immediately, but also let me keep the item. I could NOT believe it, although it really did not cost much and probably, it was cheaper for Amazon to let me keep it instead of shipping it back to the fulfilment center. Once again, being fully satisfied, and I know that I will be using amazon.com and continuously be their loyal customer!

~ Clearness is a gift. Kindness is a choice. Gifts are easy because they are given, after all. Choices can be hard. You can seduce yourself with your gifts if you are not careful, and if you do, it will probably be to the detriment of your detriment of your choices.”

Picked this up on a “latest” section of the library shelf. Finished it in a day. It’s just a collage of all of Jeff‘s quotes and written communication. There’s no insight or summary, history or investigative writing. Basically the author just collated all the quotes and published a book. That’s is all.

Short and inspirational. Brings out his quotes across many topics - customer centricity, innovation, corporate culture, technology and his own beliefs.

I am very impressed at how hard Jeff Bezos works to be where he has reached and his continuing curiosity.

Great read.

Jeff Bezos shares his insights and musings towards his business approach, his innovations, and the legacy he wants to leave behind. A nice read during 10 to 15 minute gaps of the day when you are searching for nuggets of inspiration.

Not a book, book. Collection of quotes by Jeff, which again is just put in as-is. I expected a story from his quotes and experience.
