About the author

​Ben Spies is a young author living on the beautiful Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. Ben’s passion for writing led him to become a published author at the young age of nine with his first book, Weirdo. The Magic Pencil followed soon after at age ten, and The World of Greek Mythology at age eleven. Ben is thirteen years old now and is not showing any signs of slowing down. He has just published his fourth book and first sci-fi - 2020 - an action packed novel for older children and young teenagers.

Weirdo is Ben Spies first book, and he published it when he was just 9 years old!
It follows Ugine, a 'Weirdo', in a series of adventures.
This book is light hearted and easy to read. It's funny and silly and was a pleasure to read. Its aimed at children, so I struggled a little with the writing style at the start but would definitely suggest it for children, 4 stars.

This story has 2 short stories and I thought the books were so funny and weird. It's cute weird stories. It's a good weird though. the names and settings in the stories were very unique. I think that alone made the stories so special. Plus the author wrote these books at a young age and he is a good author. I would read these stories again and again, it's that cute!!

This book is amazing! My daughter and I loved it so much. It shows you that it's OK to be different. And such a bitter sweet ending!
