The Bare Bones MC #8

Race With the Devil

Rate this book
Thou Shalt Be Badass.
Tanner Principato is a gruff, surly combat vet who has cobbled together a livelihood flying rescue dogs to forever homes. When Tanner makes good on a promise to Bare Bones MC lawyer Slushy and brings a puppy to a lonely member, he is caught in the middle of a mystery. Tanner’s innate kindness means he volunteers to track down the missing bride of the club’s fentanyl dealer, Tutti Morgan, the “Walter White of Flagstaff.” Bare Bones territory looks even more inviting to Tanner when he’s paired up with a friend of the vanished newlywed, Unity Mitford.
A victim of rape, Unity’s job as spokesmodel for cannabis companies brings her into the limelight with many men. Men she teases. Men she avoids. Terrified of intimacy, Unity has developed a wide array of survival skills to keep men at bay. When she starts working with Tanner, for the first time she questions some of these methods of isolation. Does she really want to resist the dashing, commanding, and carved pilot? He calls her the Queen of Heaven after a Kama Sutra position, and he leaves his mark on her heart.
Their fling—and detective partnership—comes to a grinding halt when Unity finds out what Tanner spent ten years in prison for. She can’t throw her missing friend under the bus, but she will never—never!—waste another minute in the presence of such a vile asshole as Tanner Principato.
Like the injured and abused animals he’s worked with, Tanner knows to proceed slowly with Unity. If terrified by sudden movement, animals can keel over, dead. And Tanner knows that . . .
if you’re going to race with the devil, you got to be fast as hell.
Publisher’s Note: This is Book #8 in the Bare Bones MC series. This book is a standalone and can be read out of order, but the series is best read in order to gain the full experience. This is not your mother’s contemporary romance. Daring readers will encounter violence, gun play, and a backstory involving rape, one MM encounter, and a HEA. It is not for the faint of heart. It’s a full-length novel of 66,000 words with no cliffhanger. Recommended 18+ due to mature content and possible triggers.

Great addition to the Bare Bones MC Series! Tanner is a combat vet who now flies rescue dogs to their forever homes. He keeps a promise to Slushy, the BBMC lawyer, and brings a puppy to a lonely club member. Unity is a rape victim, spokesmodel for canibis companies and best friend to Lavinia Dock. Lavinia just married Tutti Morgan, a fentanyl dealer selling toxic fentanyl in the streets. Lavinia goes missing and Unity and Tanner team up to find her. Unity and Tanner have some magnetism but Tanner takes it slow due to Unity's past. Tanner spent 10 years in prison when he took the rap for his older brother on a rape charge. They thought since he was a teen they would go easier on him but was not his luck. He got involved with Puppies Behind Bars and then the Innocent Project helped get him out after serving 10 years on a bad rap. When Unity learns what he was in jail for she freaks out. She wont desert her friend so puts up walls. Tanner knows he will have to slowly chip away those walls. There are twists and probable triggers for some but I fell for Tanner and Unity. Love when two broke or lost souls find each other and together make are whole........a HEA!!! Have really enjoyed this series and hope there are more rides to come!

What a great addition this is to the Bare Bones series.

All the characters are strong, and well written (some of them are old friends) but especially Tanner and Unity. They have both suffered through life and sense understanding in each other.

Their relationship isn't plain sailing by any means, but what they have is worth fighting for.

Their relationship plays out against the search for Lavinia, Unity's friend, and the Bare Bones desire to get rid of Tutti Morgan, a drug maker who is killing his customers....and who just happens to have married Lavinia.

There is tension, there is violence, there is love, and there is humour.

This is a good read.

My review will be short since I’m still trying to get over my lung problems but also I won’t spoiler this for you.
Well will catch up with the B.B.MC and all their latest drama, including Tracy, Wolf and Tob. I really can’t wait to find out what will happen next down the road, wow. Tanner and Unity will have many ups and downs until they get their acts together with the helps of some furry four legged helpers. If your are already caught up in the club then your golden but if not read up and this will be a great read to brighten up your heart.

Race with the Devil is the 8th book in The Bare Bones MC Series. Each of these books can be read as standalone’s and per Layla Wolfe they can be read in any order. You get to know the characters when you read these books in order and they do show up in all the books so if you can it would be best to start at the beginning and work your way through the series. Now there is also a warning because these books are not for the faint of heart or for those that have triggers. Read Layla Wolfe’s warning for more of what the triggers are.

This is Tanner Principato and Unity Mitford’s story. We get to see all the MC members that we have known previously. I know I have said this before but, I love all the names these characters have in this MC.

Tanner is a combat vet that rescues & trains dogs and gives them away to be companion dogs. (He can’t be all bad then right?) Unity was a victim of rape and is a spokesmodel for cannabis companies. When her friend Lavinia Dock goes missing Unity & Tanner get together to find her. But, when Unity finds out that Tanner served time and what he served time for she wouldn’t work with Tanner any longer. But, Tanner works on Unity to break down the walls that she has built up. Oh and while he breaks down those walls there are some hot as h*ll scenes.

I loved this quote from the book:

“if you’re going to race with the devil, you got to be fast as hell.”

You can tell that Layla Wolfe must do a tremendous amount of research for the things that happen in this book. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I loved reading Race with the Devil and I give it 4.5 stars and can’t wait to see what Layla Wolfe comes up with next.

Once again Ms. Wolfe leads us down the path to another addition of "As the world turns" Bare Bones style. You never can tell where one of her stories is going to go, but you can guarantee that it is going to be an exciting ride. Tanner is the newest bad boy to cross paths with the Bare Bones, fulfilling a debt to Slushy he brings one of his precious rescue puppies to none other than Wolfe. Hating to cut his ties to the fluffy Beatle, he gets caught up in a missing person mystery with the lovely and troubled Unity Mitford. The attraction between the two is very intense, however their individual past and ideas are going to clash big time. Getting a look at our MC favorites is always a pleasure. Their antics add some interesting, in some case amusing plot twists that keep you smiling , shaking your head and remembering that there is more to each character then is always presented. ( you always find out something new about them on a deeper level in each book) I love each character, I love their antics, descriptions, thoughts, actions, loyalty and the love they are not ashamed to express. The storylines are not flowers and sunshine but are dark and gritty. They are not for the faint of heart as they touch on tough subject matter that is not always viewed well in the public eye. However, they are interesting, exciting and give you a walk on ( and a look at) the wild side while sitting in your jammies on the couch. :)

Liked this book, but it was slow going in parts

Race With the Devil is a pretty good book. The characters are colorful and likeable, and the story arcs kept me interested. It was slow going in parts because some of the metaphors, slang and euphemisms were too much. I ended up having to read a couple of parts over again because I was totally lost, then realized what the sutures was saying. There were places where an entire paragraph would would be writing in this manner. I'm all for a colorful turn of phrase, but this was over-the-top, too the point of being almost distracting. With that being followed by grammatical errors in a couple of places, I had to reread and pause a few times.
That being said, I really liked the story, and loved meeting some of the other MC members. Though the story touches on some themes that might be triggers for some people, it is not graphically done. And the ending? Loved it! Overall, this is a book worth reading. I'll definitly be catching up with the other books in this series. Especially now that I'm familiar with this author's style of writing.

This is the 8th book in the Bare Bones MC series and it was an emotional ride filled with longing, doubt, secrets, betrayal, danger and finally love. But that love didn’t come easy for Tanner and Unity, in fact it took a long time for all of the walls to come down.

Tanner has spent the last few years seeking redemption for a crime that he didn’t commit. Regardless he is attempting to find good in this world again and helping puppies find their forever homes is his way of doing it.

Unity is dealing with the aftermath of a horrific violation. She was told a dog would help her but she is scared of the man bringing it.

Now an unexpected situation has them working together when it’s the last thing the were prepared to do. Tanner has a test his his willpower and patience and Unity has a to learn to trust.

Will they be able to figure it out together before it’s to late?

What a nice read. From the start to the end, it just grabbed your attention and so many twists and turns that will definitely keep you on your toes.
Tanner is a combat vet who flies rescue dogs to their new homes. He is keeping a promise to the lawyer of the BBMC and brings a puppy to a lonely member. Unity is a rape victim and a spokes model for canibis companies and her best friend just went missing. So Tanner and Unity teams up to find her best friend. The more time they spend together the more they can't deny the attraction. But Tanner went to prison for 10 years on a rape charge. How will this affect their relationship and will Unity be able to walk away from her feelings or will she stick around to find out the truth about Tanner's past.

Definitely a good read. Like I said I love the angst, the twists and you never know what's going to happen next in this book.

Tanner served ten years for a rape he didn't commit his brother was the guilty one but felt they would go easier on Tanned due to his youth it didn't work out like that but after ten years the innocence project got him . While he was behind bars he worked with puppies behind bars and now he delivers rescue dogs to where they are needed. Race with the Devil, book eight in the Bare Bones MC series follows Unity Mitford, a rape victim and spokesmodel got the local cannabis company and Tanner Principato, a combat vet and ex-con who flies rescued dogs to their new forever homes. When her friend Lavinia Dock goes missing, she is paired with the ex-con to help find the missing girl, but when she finds out that he went to jail on rape charges, she tries to keep her distance even though their chemistry sparks. Will Unity be able to keep her mind on her missing friend, and not the sexy ex-con?
Though listed as a standalone, I would recommend reading the others in this series first.

Although this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. The dynamics of Tanner and Unity's relationship were intense. You have two people who feel very strongly about certain things in life. They both have seen a lot and been through a lot.
Tanner handled Unity with so much care that I really loved him for her. Unity needed someone who would treat her like the Queen she is and give her all the love and devotion she deserved. I feel Tanner needed to find Unity to make himself whole again. They made the perfect team and completed each other!

This is the eighth book in the Bare Bones series as it is a great addition to the series. I love reading MC romances are the men tend to be bad boys and sinfully sexy. These books can be read as stand-alones but reading them in order is so much better as you get to know the characters so much better and little things will make sense more. I will suggest that if you are easily triggered then this series may not be for you. There is suspense, twists and turns making for a great read.

Apparently this is the eighth Bare Bones MC title, my first in the series but second by Wolfe. As there are recurring characters, I found it confusing when club members' nicknames scrolled across the page. Wolfe did a great job describing the Arizona setting, with particular attention to the major voices of dog-rescuer Gtanner and spokesperson Unity. The handling of the issues of wrongful conviction for Tanner and parental rape for Unity was tasteful and solid. Graphic tracts of oral copulation was hot and detailed. Good read.

Tanner and Unity are the hot couple in this book. Tanner works with rescue dogs and Unity has issues trusting men due to her past. As the book goes on, Tanner takes his time to earn Unity's trust. Unity is determined to find her missing friend and finds that she needs Tanner's help more than she would like. Their chemistry is hot and the book is steamy. I look forward to another book in the series from Ms. Wolfe!

This took my breathe away. Unity has had terrible things done to her by her stepfather so had left home Tanner imprisoned for ten years for a crime he didn't commit and is now a pilot and flying a dog to his new owner, Wolfe a member of Bare Bones MC. Unity and Tanner are roped in to helping find a missing woman, and with sparks flying between them, a crazy drug Lord and numerous other characters the r is never a dull moment, wonderful.

This is my first read in the series and I really enjoyed it. I liked the different emotions I felt as I was reading it. I enjoyed Tanner and Unity’s story and all the twists and turns throughout. It was especially nice seeing how patient Tanner was with Unity, it showed that he genuinely loved and cared for her and would wait for her. I can’t wait to read the previous books in the series.

Race with the Devil is a great 8th book in The Bare Bones MC series, well written and flowed nicely.

Tanner and Unity are perfect soul mates but until the two souls can fir together they have to go through lots of twists & turns, betrayal and dangerous situations but love wins all right ? Maybe?

I one click must for loves of MC reads packed with drama.

I enjoyed the latest installment of the Bare Bones MC. This time we meet Tanner and Unity, and together, along with the help of some of the members of the MC. They set out to find Unity's missing friend. A good mystery and a whole lot of sexual tension with a little bit of humor made this a good read.

Good series

This books says you can read it as a stand-alone but I recommend you start at the beginning of the series. It's a good series but there are twists and turns and some unfamiliar language and descriptions that would make more sense from the first book.

Race with the Devil is my first read by Layla Wolfe. It definitely won't be my last! Tanner and Unity's story is both heartbreaking and super sexy. The story is well written and the plot is fast paced.
