Discovering an Artificial Intelligence lives in your head, strike one. Having the Artificial Intelligence explain aliens are the origin of shifters on Earth, strike two. Having it announce you are the commanding officer of the earth shifters, strike three.

Deciding there is only so much one person can handle, McKenna Largo ignores the strange new voice in her head and focuses on her law enforcement career. She soon learns there are other aspects to being a shifter. Who knew cougars had such a great nose for drugs? Her career prospects increase with each drug bust, but so do her enemies. Still McKenna insists on living as normal a life as possible. After one too many successes, these enemies target not just on her, but also her family and friends. Finding herself in a situation she never imagined, McKenna must step up and be the leader they need, a true commander. Now if she could just devise a plan that won’t get them all killed…

2023 bk 140. Life in the new universe containing shifters continues. Shortly after McKenna and the children are freed, she realizes that she can also detect the scents of different illegal and some legal drugs in her area. After being tested, she and her partner are moved to narcotics. After several major drug busts it becomes apparent that she has angered the drug lords. While having other shifters over for a barbecue the group is attacked, adults abducted, and spirited to South America to kill a drug lord/producer or their families will suffer. Poison has infected their bodies and they must learn to work together and with the new mystery AI inhabiting McKenna's body to defeat their enemies and save themselves from death. Fast paced action with clues to future series events skillfully added at key points. Now to purchase book 3.

2 1/2 stars info-dump

I’m not sure when these books were published, I have read better books from this author. Even the parts that were active somehow felt boring. JD should have been given the chance to shine., It’s even mentioned his nose should be better than Kenna’s. Still the story stuck to Kenna failing to flush out JD. Grammar, missing or out of order words, incorrect pronouns occur to much to ignore. It’s sometimes hard to know who is speaking or being spoken to. One thing the story does get right is making you care about the characters. If I knew the series was done I would strongly consider skipping to the last book to find out the conclusion for the characters.

Second book basically follows the same plot as the first one.

You get kind of the same progression as in the original one. There's a handful of added elements (including an important character from the intermediate novella). The increasing importance of the sci-fi elements are ok, but the mostly unchanged plot make it more of a "meh" than the first book. I hope the book 3 is going to be different, or the series is really going nowhere...

Very good read.

As the 2nd in a series, this still had some grammar & spelling problems. I'm guessing from a lack of an editor. However, the plot has been good, the character development good, & the writing style good. I am looking forward to the full series being finished & reading all of them.

Great

Fast moving, ongoing action. The adventure continues as a change to working narcotic finds the shifter officers able to smell narcotics and make some amazing busts. The alien aspects are ramping up. New characters introduced and world wide turmoil.

Solid 2nd book

Again, this is not your usual urban/paranormal fantasy. Its better. It’s more real. The author has managed to hit home on some real truths about people, relationships, how much CPS sucks. And other realities of life

Fascinating series

This is more intriguing than fun, but it’s a dang good ride. Pretty much non stop action and hard decisions, revelations and even more secrets. Some editing errors.

Exciting and surprising

Good work on extending the surprises and learning g as well as the leadership skills - I find the attempts at global news to be extremely parochial and cliched - please do better - Wikipedia exists and so do many good blogs for nuance - fun overall

Excellent

I enjoyed book 1 immensely and had doubts about book 2. Aliens? A1? But….it worked! Because we feel for McKenna and now her Pack AND the kids, we can trust the author to give us a great story AND let us in on the inner lives of the Pack. JD and Cass?

Enjoyed

Darker and grimmer than I usually read but compelling. Glad I am reading through KU.

Moving on to the next book, already anticipating continued grim, hoping for a happy for now.

Posted amazon, goodreads.

New Twist on Shifter Tales

Great series with a new and exciting twist on shifter lore! Great characters with interesting back stories and not a lot of romance shoved in. Great action with very coherent and well done story lines. Excellent Read!!

Oh this keeps getting better and better.

If you're into SF do not miss this series. Start with the first book. Since I started the first book I have barely been able to sleep and am going straight on to the third book.

A couple of technical errors that an editor should have caught, but the story itself is even more exciting than the first book.

Warning that this touch’s on physical/sexual abuse. I found it to be very triggering and I’m having to put the series down.

Great read

Great book. However, just a bit of a problem with editing, keeping information consistent in the book, and spelling and grammar can be a bit dodgy.
