While there were lots of good points Jeff Dayo brought out, the chaotic writing style, repetitive phrases, and wrong words used made it extremely difficult for me to read this book. I also felt his efforts to write with the vernacular of a modern young adult fell flat when it came to some of the more serious chapters, especially those about the Trinity. When he quoted Bill Johnson, my husband and I put the book down. I'd like to recommend this book, but I really can't. When I'm studying things about my spiritual life and the thrice Holy God of Creation, I take that seriously and I look for authors who do thing.
I gave this book 3 stars because while it was sweet, heartfelt and helpful, I also found it tedious reading. While trying to "bring his point home", he was repetitive and long-winded. I don't know if this is just how his mind works, or if he was trying to fill a word quota for each chapter. He used too many words and examples to make his point. I found myself scanning entire sections instead of reading them word by word because I got the point within the first couple of paragraphs of each chapter. Maybe this style of writing is helpful for some, but I found it tedious.
The concepts in this book rate five stars for me. But the author’s way of explaining them ranges from the “ridiculous to the sublime” as some might say. I might almost think the author is on drugs as he goes off in weird ways just to come back to quoting the correct scripture that brings the point home. I am a long time Christian but Deyo did awaken for me new ideas to reflect on and did awaken a desire to spend more time with God. My three star rating is five plus one divided by two.
This was an encouraging and inspiring book. I would recommend it to people wanting to revive their worship times. The author has a chatty writing style. Occasionally he'd say something deep followed by something sarcastic which annoyed me. I felt like the last few chapters weren't as pack and polished but maybe that's just me.
This book inspired and convicted my heart. So many things helped me to better understand and change my outlook on my relationship with the Lord and with worship. I plead with all, believers and unbelievers alike, to pick up this book and give it a read!
Jeff writes like he's just having a conversation with you. Worship is more than just singing in church. It's worshipping in all aspects of your day and who you are in Christ. Highly recommend this read!
