Kritika Sharma is an author, blogger and Associate Director in Nielsen, India. She is a woman of passion and spirit who believes in possibilities and loves to challenge her own limits by learning something new every day. She has been writing ever since she held a pencil. I received a copy of this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
"They called me slut, but I was only an innocent girl looking for happiness and my one true love." - Kritika Sharma, Betrayed
When the cover of Betrayed (The Slut Chronicles #1) was revealed, there was a lot of chaos in our little bookish community. A lot of people felt that it was against their morals (as a female) to read a book that portrays another female as a slut—that abuses another female that way. I was against the idea because well, of two things:
A. I had already read the blurb and felt that it was more about slut-shaming than about the life of a woman who is a slut. B. Having endured the horrors of being slut-shamed myself (and I'm not scared of admitting it anymore), I believed this was a book that should be read.
And how right I was, wasn't I?
Betrayed by Kritika Sharma is one such book that I deeply loved. Maybe I was biased toward it because of my past. Or maybe I could just relate a lot to Ishana (of her life as a kid, of her boundaries, of her restrictions—my parents weren't THAT strict, but they were strict nonetheless!) Whatever it is, one thing is for sure. I loved this book.
The thing about this book is that it showcases the brutal world in every line of it. Ishana was a simple innocent girl, and look what did the world turn her into. A heartless person. A girl who tried to commit suicide. A girl kicked hard in the heart by life. But whatever she was, she wasn't a slut. And that is exactly what this book is about.
I sat down to read this book late one night, and ended up finishing it within three hours. For a 253 pages long book, that is a huge feat. But then, that is the thing about Sharma's writing. It is gripping and smooth. In a fast-paced novel like this one, I did not (even at one point) feel that I was being bored. I just had to continue reading on and on. I did not want to stop.
The story starts with Ishana being called a slut by someone and how she hits him on the face and then, continues when a journalist arrives, eager to share her story to the world. She has never revealed anything of her past to anyone else before. The journalist was the only one, and the only reason why she did that was because he reminded her of her little brother. I wonder what happened to him.
What I loved the most about Ishana was how she had the guts to do something about her shaming. Perhaps, her actions were a little too drastic. But they were there. And she revolted in her own tiny way. I adored this. I wish I had had the same courage. Eh, well...
The title of the book couldn't have been better. To a reader who hasn't read the book, this would appear like a story of someone whose deepest darkest secrets were revealed. But was it that way? Well, we can only wait for you to find out! So go, go..Go pre-order this book from Amazon before it's too late!
The slut chronicles: betrayed First thing first, thank you @kalamosservices and @authorkritika for providing me ARC of the book. This is the story of love, betrayal and revenge. This is the story of Ishana. She is a simple loving girl next door, but one day she is slut shamed! Which turned her world upside down. While the world drag her downword she fights all the odds, and takes the revenge on all the wrong doing done with her!
Let's talk about how the book make you feel. I would like to congratulate @authorkritika Brining such bold and important issue of our society! You have done a fabulous job! The book is written very simply with a easy to understand yet page-turner narrative. Book is fast paced! And what I like most about the book is it won't wounder off from plot. (No unnecessary unwanted details). Characters are simple and very realistic! Like kind of people who we see, think or assume day to day life. Frankly I was surprised how much this book truned as a good read. It can be a good sequel of Bollywood drama film Hate Story series. I haven't talk much about plot because I want you guys to go and read the book! I know the title is very bold but the story is really amazing!
Ratings Plot - 3.5 ⭐ Character - 3 ⭐ Narration and pace - 3.5 ⭐ Overall - 3.5 ⭐
Ishana is a mystery which you won't want to leave unravelled.
This book can keep you intrigued without even you knowing it. Ishana's story starts on a simple note, as a simple love story. The pace of the story is leisurely in the beginning, perhaps even afterwards. I just didn't realise that the story has turned from an innocent love story to something very much vicious. And that, I'm sure, will keep other readers engaged in the story as well.
There is a clarity to most of the characters in this book. But there were some elements which were left unexplained, which I'm assuming is because this book is the first in a series and the explanation will be there in the upcoming books.
There is nothing fancy about the premise, yet I think the writer manages to take the reader through the book without getting bored. The premise is simple; the story, something very unlike the stories we usually come across. I would say it is one of a kind.
I won't say the writing style is excellent. Because it ain't. But there is nothing bad about it either. I'd just say the pace of the book, and the short chapters make up for the writing style, making this book a quick read.
And then, there is the psychological aspect. How the mind of a fifteen year old girl can turn to, if she's been subjected to brutality of the most severe kind.
The one shortcoming that I found in this book is that some things felt exaggerated. That how could this happen so quickly; this felt unnatural, at times. But I won't be harsh in my judgement here as these parts were enjoyable as well. Besides, there is more to come in the series: the book is here, but the story ain't complete yet.
I'd say all those who like a good fiction with romance and psychological elements thrown into the mix would enjoy the book. But I'd warn them to remember that don't think too much while reading it, don't go very much into logics. I'm sure it'll turn out to be an enjoyable read.
Ishana is a supermodel by profession, a lady at the apex of her career, and quite obviously pretty bold in her ways. But as is the case with any bold woman and that too someone working as a 'model' she is bound to be slut-shamed. Ishana hates the word, 'slut' not only because it is derogatory to a woman, but also because of her troubled teen-age. 💋 Born to fairly strict parents and an abusive mother, the story explores Ishana, as a sixteen-year-old girl. Being a simple girl next door girl, one who was always more concerned about her studies rather than other distractions that appeal to teenagers, her world changes when someone she dearly trusted took advantage of her and slut-shamed her by spreading countless rumors about her character. What unfolds is a story of revenge, love, passion, and betrayal and how a young and innocent Ishana turns to a heartless human being. 💋 The narration is fast paced and in a long time, I found myself enjoying an Indian drama. The story sticks to the plot and only the characters that required depth were explained in detail. The emotions of the protagonist were described very beautifully. 💋 The only issue with the plot was the way the revenge was taken. In my honest opinion, they were a bit extreme and rather than overly dramatizing them, the author could have done a better job of portraying a realistic scenario. 💋 All in all a really entertaining read and if anyone is interested in reading Indian romantic thriller you might want to give this one a try. Also kudos to the author on touching on a highly controversial and sensitive topic. Best wishes for the later parts of the series.
Book’s name: The Slut Chronicles Author: Kritika Sharma Publisher: Kalamos literary services My rating: 5/5
The slut chronicles: betrayed is exactly the kind of book which I needed to get back into reading. The book has suspense, drama, thrill love and betrayal. A complete set of ingredients to make a book interesting enough to hook a reader.
This book is the story of a girl named Ishana. She is a beautiful and stunning supermodel with a dark past which she agrees to share with a freelance writer Ravi after much persuasion. Ravi was keen on finding out about Ishana, who runs the biggest NGO in the country for abused girls yet is tagged as a SLUT by the society. She begins telling her story how she was the shy and quiet girl who was desperate for love as she never got any affection from her family. She had an abusive mother, a father who never paid attention to household affairs and a younger brother who was too innocent to figure out what his mother used to do to his older sister.
When Ishana finally found love she was waiting for, in Dev she trusted him immediately. He came in her miserable life and she became happy for the first time in life but did that love actually changed her life for good or changed her personality forever? Was Dev her true love or she traded her miserable life for something nastier?
The language used by the author is simple yet beautiful which makes a reader glued to the book. The author has narrated the story very elegantly. The dialogues and the scenes were beautifully portrayed. I’m eagerly waiting for the next part of the book.
A story which takes you to the dark past of a famed actress. The story is a real gripping one as it portrays the difficulty, a lady actress has to gone through to become rich and famous. While we get to see only the illusionary image of glam and sham, we wouldn't know their past, which most of the times is filled with so much of sadness and dirt.
Ishana, the protagonist of the story has played a subtle role by defining what the real meaning of a SLUT is. While she became famous as an actress, she opens up her dark past to a journo. It is to be noted that she had never revealed this to any and she started liking him as he resembled her younger brother.
Just like any one else, Ishana had a small family with a caring father and a good brother. Her mother was always abusive scolding and beating her which made her yearn for the love which she got from her neighbor. However she faced the stark but the dark truth of life from Dev & Kunal.
Fortunately for her, she had couple of friends who stood behind her thick and thin - Shiva and Sarv. Shiva is a girl. Sarv is a guy. They never took undeue advantage of their friend Ishana who was simple, elegant and beautiful but had always warned her prior to she getting entangled in complicated relationships.
The story has an unexpected end. I liked the way the story was written as it brought out the misery of an actress making me go back to the #MeToo Campaign which was popular sometime back which was also based on this theme, more or less.
Kritika Sharma is an author , blogger and associate director in Nielsen , India .This is her fifth book . Previously she has four books under her name , 'Manage your Manager ' (2013) , 'Live in with a Ghost '(2015), 'Abstract Tales '(2017) , And 'Treacherous Desires ' (2017) .
About the story :
This is a story of an Innocent girl . The protagonist ,Ishana has faced the world to its lowest . She has been in love and has been betrayed . But her life became the topic of our so-called society . They called her Slut. The term is really available to them to call any girl . She wanted to end her live . But then she proved herself she isn't a slut . This story is mainly based on the societies injustice and restrictions to the girls .
What I really love about this book :
1.The use of simple words has portrayed the story well .
2. Involving of only some charecter has made this story concrete .
3. No extra discussion has maintained the flow of the story .
4. I really appreciate the Title . Because most of us Just give a Seal of Slut to anyone without thinking a moment . And the author has really highlighted this in a admirable way .
I would give it a 4/5
I want to thanks the Publisher for giving me a chance to review this good one .
Ravi, a freelance journalist can't believe his luck when The Ishana, the famed star agrees to an interview
Ravi reminds her of her brother and Ishana agrees to an interview with a condition that nothing will be published without her permission.
In order for him to understand why she can't help but react to the word 'slut' so strongly, she takes him back in time to her past, where her days were spent studying and dreaming about her first love.
But nothing was easy for her, and ravi is shocked and appalled by so many things that he feels sorry for her and is angry for the wrongs did to her.
A person would expect a sweet innocent girl to cry her heart out when she was hurt but no, what ishana does instead comes as a shock, she sets the plan to take revenge from those who made her feel helpless, and some may think that her actions were a bit extreme but then no one can measure the hurt.
This book hooked me right from the beginning and I was intrigued till the end, some things were left unexplained but that might be revealed in the next part.
I enjoyed it and every woman will relate to the plight of ishana.
3.5/5 Do you judge a book by it's cover? Well, to be honest I never do that. But, when this book came to me for review purpose, I thought that the cover is kinda provoking! However, when I started reading it, I understood that the story is totally opposite of what I thought.
The writing style of the author was simple and eloquent. The narration was so engaging and fast-paced that it was impossible for me to put the book down before finishing it. I took about 4 hours to finish it! The climax was thrilling! I am eagerly waiting to read the next part of the book now.
The author has brought to light a very sensitive issue in her book. She has tried to describe how people doesn't think twice before judging someone and labeling them as a 'slut' , 'whore' and other such terms! When a girl is frank and friendly with a boy, the boy thinks that the girl is giving him the liberty to be intimate with her. But unfortunately, the society will blame the girl for being a pervert. I feel female readers like me will definitely connect with this book.
All in all, I enjoyed reading the novel 'The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed'. If you want to read a romantic fiction with a tinge of thriller in it, then I would definitely recommend this book!
"They called me slut, but I was only an innocent girl looking for happiness and my one true love."
Indian society is said to be developing and is becoming modern in the present era however, women backwardness is also very clear in the Indian society . Women are considered weak and useless, treated as inferior to men and judged by people. Society has given different names to women after judging their characters- slut, whore, characterless and what not. I don't get this concept as what is this with judging girls but not caring about what boys do.
The Slut Chronicles is a trilogy and the first book is Betrayed which follows the journey of Ishana, an innocent girl turned heartless. Ishana loses her cool at a fashion show when someone calls her a slut. The word "SLUT" instigates her anger and she bashes a glass on that person's head which leads to her being in the paparazzi for the wrongdoing. In order to escape the media she goes to a bar so as to find solace. There she meets Ravi, a journalist who is a big fan of hers and asks her about her past. She feels connected to him and starts narrating her journey from her childhood days.
An innocent girl with strict parents and love affairs described her childhood . But what happened that she completely transformed into a heartless person? What exactly was her past?
I loved how the author described each and every thing in detail. The emotions were so real and I could relate to the character Ishana ( Somewhat because of similar past ).You'll come through every emotion of love, romance, hatred and betrayal. The language was easy and understandable. The story is well paced and will definitely keep you hooked till the very last page. This book focused on Ishana's school life only and I guess the rest of her past life will be revealed in its sequal. I'm eagerly waiting for the second part of the book now.
Isn't it common to have rumors spreading around about a girl? Isn't it cliche that a girl who is bold, or friendly, or has many guy friends/boyfriends over a period of time is called a slut; whereas the guy in the same circumstances called a stud (No, I am not being a feminist here. 🙄 Just calling a spade a spade.).
This book touches a nerve somewhere and brings a sensitive issue to light. I believe many female readers will relate to it.
The book revolves around the life of Ishana. She is a sweet innocent girl who is slut-shamed and what not.
The girl falls in love and get her heart broken. You will say that happens! But what's different here is that when people try to pull her down and call her names for having emotions, she fights back.
The story is gripping and the book is a page-turner. You wouldn't want to put it down. There is also a thrilling climax waiting for you in the end.
The writing is simple yet elegant. The book is easy to read and you can finish it in no time.
TBH I found the title a bit provoking at first but when I read the book, I understood the meaning behind it.
It's a great example of 'don't judge a book by it's cover'.
P.S.- A big thanks to Kritika Sharma for sending over her book in exchange of an honest review.
First of all, thanks to kalamos literary services for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. A concept that had so much potential but ruined by poor writing and plot execution. The plot was very unoriginal, common, overly dramatic and unrealistic. The writing style was informal and had inclusion of Hinglish here and there, which isn't a problem as such as it enables the reader to comprehend it well and read it easily. The story was fast paced but not rushed. The characters were unrealistic and did not develop much. The one character who did change himself was thrashed to pieces by the protagonist. It was entertaining but there were cringiest moments on every other page of the book which was funny even though the genre was not humor but psychological fiction. Spoilers ahead// Ishana, the protagonist, tells her story of her first true love during her school days. 16 year old Ishana betrayed, humiliated and tricked into having sex by her first boyfriend, plans to avenge him by filing a FALSE RAPE CASE. In what reality is it justified? She goes on to get him beaten up after he changes himself into a good person and seeks redemption, falls in love with her. She gets him beaten up to an extent that he ends up with 19 freaking fractures in his body and survives. Circumstances of the "false rape case" you ask? The guy enters her home (on her invitation), she plots a plan and leaves for her friend's place, makes her mom lie on her bed. The guy, Dev, her boyfriend lies beside her mom and hugs her from behind. And boom! False rape case. I don't know how the police took the charges just like that. And worse? She doesn't feel an inch of guilt even in later years. She calls herself a sociopath proudly so. She gets herself another boyfriend, Kunal soon after the false rape case is filed on Dev, her ex. She goes on dates with Kunal and never has sex with him because of the trauma she had with Dev. Kunal gets frustrated because he is not getting to sleep with her and takes her to a "sex den" where it is stinky and the tables are moist with cum, I am guessing. He tries to rape her there and a random guy shows up and saves her from the atrocity. Also, barges in to comment upon Kunal's dick size? So out of context to the scene. She gets mad at Kunal and Kunal tells her while he tries to rape her that the reason he wants to have sex with her is because he has a hole in his heart. He is 16 plus and it is highly impossible for someone with a hole in their heart to live beyond 8 years of age, medically speaking. Kunal goes into hiding and asks his friend to talk to Ishana and tell her that he is going to get a heart surgery. And the moment Ishana shows signs of believing the story, he shows up all fit and fine saying since you missed me, I am back. Also, he shows up riding a motorcycle. Mind you, he had a heart surgery a day before and he is riding a motorcycle. Ishana, the dumb MC, believes him for a moment. (God) She actually doesn't think this herself but asks her father, who is a compounder, if someone who has gone through a surgery can ride a motorcycle a day after. He says no and then, it strikes her. Magically. She goes on a date again with her rapist. This time, he takes her to a cyber cafe cubicle to rape her again, obviously. The cubicle has blood stains on the wall. God knows what kind of sex Indians are having in cyber cafes. All she asks him is "Take off your shirt. I am good at biology and I know that to have a surgery, you need to open up a body. I wanna see your stitches." MAJOR CRINGE. Wtf dude. You don't need to know biology to know that. She keeps on calling herself a genius throughout the book even though she doesn't know anything and is clearly dumb. She claims not to know what blowjob is or what a smooch is but "she felt tremors through her soul when he touched her there." Cringe. And when Dev tricks her into sex, they don't actually have sex or do they? It is very confusing. But all I know is, they had clothes on and she was scared that he will come inside her. God knows what kind of sex that was. The ending is so stupid and unbelievable. She kills her second ex boyfriend Kunal with the help of a pair of gloves, her scarf and a huge syringe. She ties him up in pretext of having sex with him and ties his eyes up, takes off his shirt, feels his heart as she is good at biology, injects the syringe full of air directly into his heart and causes cardiac arrest and he dies. (slow clap) Mind you, there was no needle required to inject the air. She just plunged the syringe into his heart. God knows how. I hated the overly dramatic plot and the writing but it was so funny that it kept me entertained. So, instead of one star, I decided to give it two stars.

Domestic abuse, emotional instability, love, infidelity, betrayal gives rise to Kritika Sharma’s The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed. The novel narrated as a flashback reveals the darkest truths in the life of a famous personality- Ishana. Spanning over the most vulnerable years of a girl’s life, The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed focusses on her teenage and formative years. The author takes the readers on an emotional roller coaster ride through the pages of this book, where every incident and every reaction is realistic and understandable.
Simple and down-to-earth, girl-next-door Ishana could never have possibly visualized that her future would take such drastic turns. Physically and emotionally abused at home by her near one, she quietly fell for the boy next door, (in the literal sense). Little did she know that the rich brat was only seeking a toying relationship. But upon knowing his true nature, Ishana did have her way with him- unthinkable, unimaginative, yet effective. She had just gotten over with one traumatic incident when another one hit her.
Slut chronicles : betrayed what a phenomenal ending 👌 if it wasnt for the climax i was not going to rate this book highly. Its an easy read - a story we can all relate to. We have experienced young love atleast once in our school life - the dangerous 10th to 12th standards. Infact just the other day i was reminiscing when i saw 2 kids walking hand in hand in a park in school uniform. This book just re emphasised that feeling.
The English is plain.. infact i often feel indian writers tend to translate their hindi thoughts in english in their books.. so these books would not make much sense to a westerner. These stories can only be understood in india.. because the thought is very hindi. I hope you agree with me if you ve read other such books.
But go ahead and read this one.. i would give points for the story ending. The book was very relatable and i couldnt put it down until the very end. Its a 3.5/5. Happy reading!
When I was first contacted by the publishing house for this review opportunity, I was a little skeptical to go ahead with this book as title and book cover looked too wanna be to me. But then the blurb caught my attention and I thought of giving it a shot and I am glad I did because I totally loved Ishana’s journey!
The Slut Chronicles is a story of Ishana, an innocent, naïve, girl- next- door who falls for a pretentious, abusive, rich brat! She is unaware of his dark motives but does something smart when she gets to know about his intentions. Her revenge and actions make her a “Slut” for society. Betrayed, cheated and heartbroken Ishana wants to end her life was not done with her!
This book touches many important topics and behavior of our society. It talks about a teenager’s life with strict parents and stricter society where every word you say and every step you take is judged by 1000s of those useless beings who haven’t done anything good with their own lives. It talks about how quickly “we” as a society, are judging and labelling someone “SLUT”, what impact it can have on impressionable minds, how far it can go and how much damage it can cause!
The Slut Chronicles : Betrayed is the first book in this trilogy and is amalgam of various emotions like, romance , heartbreak, betrayal , revenge and makes it kinda psychological thriller. What starts like a simple love story goes on to become a vicious “hate story”.
I liked how author has woven this story with very few characters which helps in keeping the story focused. What didn’t impress me much was the language of this book but considering the plot is quite good, it will definitely keep you engaged. With gripping narration and intriguing plot you won’t get bored at any point.
Finally, climax of this book will leave you with mixed emotions. Some questions are answered, others are not. There are some loose ends, but considering its first book in the series we can give benefit of doubt to the author and hope these questions will be answered in sequel. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely go for its sequel. It’s a good book with many harsh realities of our society which will make it relatable! Definitely recommended!
My Rating : 4/5
Thanks to the publisher and author for providing ARC in exchange of an unbiased and honest review!
This book was probably the most unexpectedly loved book of the year for me. Honestly I went into the book with zero expectations. The cover reminded me of Mills and Boons even though the genre is romantic thriller.. but boy oh boy was I wrong! As I started reading.. it engulfed me whole.
It starts when Ishana, a popular model in the city gets slut-shamed at an event and she retaliates. Next day she is all over the tabloids for her alleged rude behavior when she takes a break and goes to a bar. Here she meets Ravi, who wants to tell her story and know her better as he has been in awe of Ishana since a long time. The story unfolds as she speaks out in the weakness of the entangled mess she feels herself in.
There is not a dull moment in the book. The author just keeps you on the edge with the way events unfurl. Every chapter feels like this is the big moment of the book but she keeps on adding more twists and turns. Ishana’s story made me angry at the society, made my heart churn with what an innocent girl had to endure. There were moments where it made me feel that there is redemption and goodness in the world but then again something happened that shattered my heart.
It managed to enrage me as I thought how this actually happens in the society. Why is it so partial? Why does a girl get slut-shamed and a guy gets called a stud for the very same behavior, or even worse behavior. It is so easy to brand someone, and once you get branded, it stays with you.. no matter what and like every minuscule event.. it shapes you.. changes you, for better or for worse. My heart is still racing with that ending as I write the review. It will be a shame to shy away from this book just going by the name. Trust me.. if you do that you will miss out on a really good one! And that cliff-hanger.. I feel like I need the next book right now! *cries*
I recommend it if you are looking for something in easy English. This is one of the very few books I have read recently that has easy language but a grueling and gripping plot.
My Review : I am grateful for Kalamos Literary Services for providing me with an ARC of this book.
Although the blurb and title of the book got me intrigued I was kind of put off by the cover of the book as it looks a bit too “Bollywood-y” to me.
But I picked up the book as a part of my weekend #24in48readathon and I clocked my personal best reading time of reading 252 pages in 2 and half hours. So, that is a proof of how brilliantly written this book is.
“Slut Chronicles” narrates the journey of Ishana, a celebrity as she recalls her years of teenage and the consequences she faced as a result of slut-shaming.
Ishana, an innocent and much reserved girl is turned heartless by this brutal world in this epic-transformation story. Her character is written with such precision that I am sure you will find a glimpse of your teenage years in her.
The simplicity of her words and a swift and easy flowing storyline is a positive in Kritika’s book. The sole reason I was able to get this book done in an impressive amount of time is that it doesn’t include a single scene that isn’t relevant to the plot(and I adored that).
With a strong and straightforward message that speaks not to back down and give the shamers a taste of their own medicine,Kritika introduces twists upon twists and I couldn’t help myself from flipping through the pages.
The author has done a commendable job in bringing forward a grave aspect of the Indian society in addition to slutshaming i.e domestic abuse by parents. I myself am against this harsh form of parental behavior and am glad to find a book that atleast tries to address it.
Definitely a surprise package, this book is a mustread.
In a nutshell I would call it the literary piece of “Hate Story”.
Absolutely picking up the other books of the author.
Name- The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed Author- Kritika Sharma Genre- Fiction Pages- 252
The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed, is the first book of the series by Kritika Sharma. Wonderful story paired with amazing characters and narration engages you, without you knowing it.
The story starts with someone calling the beautiful Ishana a slut and how she hits him in the face and gets infamous all over the papers. She finds solace when a young journalist asks her about her past, without judging her present. Initially reluctant, she agrees to tell him as he reminds her of her younger brother. What starts as a casual and innocent love story for Ishana goes on to become much more. Brought up by a strict mother and an oblivious father, under lot of restrictions, the story takes the reader on her journey of becoming a bold independent woman from a timid, gullible girl. The book is about Ishana being beautiful, modern and bold but not a slut. Read the book to knoe what is it about this word that makes her lose her temper.
Sharma's writing is gripping, fast- paced and won't let you feel bored at any point. The title of the book attracted a lot of comments but I found it so apt after reading the book. The short chapters make it an easy read and it was so not possible for me to put it down midway. The climax left me in awe. I enjoyed this book to the core and am eagerly waiting for the second one.
“What is love, if not a passionate heartbreak?” Nothing makes Ishana lose her facade except for the word ‘slut’. When someone slut shames her, she smashes his head and becomes headlines again. She is at the apex of her career but people are not ready to accept her boldness. Her strengths force their toll on their weaknesses. However what no one knows is that her road to success is full of treachery and emotional hell. Join Ishana as she narrates her story to an oblivious journalist. It is a roller coaster ride full of love, passion, emotions, betrayal and ‘slut shame’. Are you ready to endure the truth of her life?
I could relate to the character because I was Slut shamed as well, and it kind of hurts that we, as girls didn't do anything to be called that. The world is cruel and the so-called society doesn't care about it even if the things they hear are not true but rumours. Betrayed by Kritika Sharma is not something biased toward it because of my past. I could relate to Ishana's life because her life as a kid was bad, her was given boundaries, she had strict parents (Mine are not anymore), she was innocent, and also the fact that she was betrayed by someone she loved deeply, so I connected with her in an extreme level.
Ishana was a simple innocent girl, and she was turned into a heartless person. A girl who tried to commit suicide. But she wasn't a slut. And that is exactly what this book is about. Overall a good read.
This book keeps you hooked until the last page, and urge to read the next one. As the blurb says, what is love, if not a passionate heartbreak?
The story revolves around Ishana, the gorgeous top model. She smashes someone's head in the event for being called slut, and becomes the breaking news and headlines in the news.
To avoid all the mess, journalists, reporters, she sneaks out of her home from back gate and goes to one of the pub to get herself drunk, and that's when ravi comes to her, one young journalist who begs to tell him her entire story, and what made her smash someone's head that led him hospitalise. She avoids him in the begining, but he tries his luck hard, and he resembles her brother Rakshit. That's when she decides to recites her story, but threatens him not to write or post an article without her consent.

As and when she begins reciting her horrifying story. The story keeps you glued entirely. Her best friends, shiva and sarv who has her back through her thick and thin, they have always been there for her when she needed, in her every decision.
Her story tells you, what loves makes to you. Utterly blind. Without thinking twice, you end up giving yourself to that someone who doesn't value you a bit. Her school life was horrifying, she was always humiliated by her mother, who just wanted her to rank in school, irrespective of anything, she was angelic to her brother and everyone else except Ishana, her father was ignorant and only lend money when they needed, her brother was young and very dear to her.
When she thought she was in love with dev the one Who betrayed her, and how slut chronicles came into existence. To know more, read the this wonderful book.
The cover of this book is beautiful and catchy, the language keeps you hooked, easy to read and understand, the flow is perfect and not much dragging with unnecessary details.

When I got this book for review, I was slightly skeptical. Wasn’t sure of what to expect. But then I got started…
Story line - It is the story of a top model Ishana ,who like any model aspires to have the best of the contracts and deals. But she loses her cool when someone calls her a Slut. This book talks about why she hates the word slut. Seems a simple story but as I continued reading, I realized that it is not a boring story. It has emotions, drama, and suspense! A girl who has a very strict mother who tortures even if gets 99 on 100 in mathematics and who expects her to do all the household work; a loving father but he does not help her much; a handsome neighbor for whom she falls but then he was interested in nothing but physical relation – all these characters make up what Ishana is today.
Author’s touch – Believe me, this is not my genre. But for some reason, the book keeps you hooked. With each page, you discover a new layer of Ishana! Although the writing is not excellent, but the author has the spark and the capability to keep you gripped. It is an easy read, but not boring.
My suggestion: Yes, you can read this book. And I look forward to more from this author! What one can learn from the author is how to make a simple story interesting!
This book turned out to be unexpectedly good. The book is the perfect blend of romance thriller and crime thriller. I was quite skeptical about it because quite often revenge sagas have disappointed me but this book is a mystery package itself. The way the story takes a turn and completely changes my idea about the protagonist is amazingly powerful.
The plot and the characters were a bit clichéd like all revenge tales but the reason why I particularly liked this is because of its plot. The unexpected twists and revelations kept me hook to it. I am really glad the book focuses on the issue of slut-shaming. Overall, this was a good book.
The story is very entertaining and highly engaging with lots of unexpected twists and turns. A love story which starts on a simple note and before you know it, it turns into a vicious and deadly revenge story. Read my complete review at The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed
I’d heard of this book in sex positive circles, and what convinced me to read it was a friend of mine had bought it and announced he was reading it.
The book is touted as an introduction and guideline for approaching non-monogamous relationships – polyamory, open relationships, sex communities, swinging couples, casual sex, etc– or being ‘sluts’ as the authors enthusiastically write.
It’s over written – it uses too many words to express its ideas. When reading I found myself not being able to focus on it and starting to skim read. I started thinking ‘Is this just me? Do I have a bad attention span?’ But when I started reading this proves to be not the case. The slut chronicles: Betrayed is a book in the same broad genre (dating and relationships), and I found it exciting, engaging and a pleasure to read – I found myself looking forward to reading it. The slut chronicles: Betrayed is a much shorter book, and seems to pack in more ideas into a more concise read.
The tone of The slut chronicles: Betrayed is more celebratory than an objective assessment of non-monogamous relationships. It seems to take a starting point of already having been successful in non-monogamous relationships. For example the book never seems to deal (or if it did, the idea didn’t stick with me) with that most people find the idea of non-monogamous relationships socially unacceptable, or at least don’t express opinions to the contrary. If I were writing a book on non-monogamous relationships – that’s where I’d start – outlining the history of monogamy, theories about why and how it came about, the popularity of non-monogamy in other cultures, in other times, and its prevalence in current western culture. is more celebratory than an objective assessment of non-monogamous relationships. I would like to suggest this book to every reader, and request them not to judge a book by its cover title.
Although the treamendous hardwork reflects through it versatility of word composition.
“They called me slut, but I was only an innocent girl looking for happiness and my one true love.”
In a country like India, where people feed on rumors to reach hasty and nasty conclusions especially about women rising up high on the ladder of success, things aren't that easy for a girl Ishana who has learnt how to fight back and fly high.
This book opens with Ishana hitting a man on his head because he called her a "SLUT" . Next day this action of Ishana was all over in the newspapers. Getting irritated with this useless limelight she went to a bar, her favourite place to find some solace. There come a young journalist Ravi who wanted to know her past. She dismisses his demand but later agrees when Ravi mentioned her younger brother. Her past starts with a innocent love story but turned out to be much more than that. She was brought up by a very strict mother and an ignorant father. She turned out to be a very brave and a bold girl out of a very gullible person. This book portrays Ishana to be very brave, bold and outspoken not to be a "SLUT" . What was her dark past which she was hiding behind this beautiful face? What was that reason why she looses her temper when she hears the word slut ?
I seriously loved this book and can't wait to read the next two books. The plot of the book was perfectly detailed and gluey. Not being a short read, you can finish this book in one sitting. It had lots of twist and turns which gave me goosebumps at times. Narration was very crisp and reader didn't get bored while reading.
I loved the character of the protagonist of the book i.e., Ishana. Transformation of her personality from a timid to a bold girl was shown perfectly. I liked the character of Ravi as well. The way he was getting connected with the story of Ishana was admirable.
In short this book is a must read. You can get all of everything in this one book. I loved how boldly author picked up the topic of "slut-shaming", kudos for that. Just pick this book up get glued to it and feel the hangover.
Book - The Slut Chronicles by Kritika Sharma I am loud, brash and opinionated but rarely judgemental, cause I believe no one has the right to judge any other human being if they haven't walked in the former's shoes and led their life. And slut shaming, oh wow! Those creepy people have their very special spot booked right next to Satan when time comes. *deep breath in and out * I was very intrigued by the title and ended up giving it a read. I had to stop quite a number of times to drink water and cool myself but the girl from the book did me proud.
About the book- “What is love, if not a passionate heartbreak?” Nothing makes Ishana lose her facade except for the word ‘slut’. When someone slut shames her, she smashes his head and becomes headlines again. She is at the apex of her career but people are not ready to accept her boldness. Her strengths force them to dwell on their own weaknesses. However what no one knows is that her road to success is full of treachery and emotional hell. Join Ishana as she narrates her story to an oblivious journalist. It is a roller coaster ride full of love, passion, emotions, betrayal and ‘slut shame’. Are you ready to endure the truth of her life?
My take on the book- Book 1 has raised my expectations to a level where I am waiting for the next one to come out like my life depends on it. Ishana can be any girl we know, hell it can even be one of us who have trusted our teenage crushes with our tender hearts and they all but trampled on it cause they weren't capable enough to handle precious heart cargo in the first place. I have also been in her friends' place and defended my friend's honor but honestly one thing I have learnt after seeing my friends' relationships and it's that if you don't wanna see the truth - no one can make you. So needless to say I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one. This book deserves a big 5 on 5 star and a pat on the back. You go girl!!!
Kritika Sharma's book 'The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed' is the first book of the trilogy. The book stresses on a very serious and sensitive issue. Women in our society are often victims of 'slut-shaming'. They are judged and are tagged as 'characterless' or termed as 'slut' by the judgemental and hypercritical society of ours.
This book tells the story of a successful and famous woman, Ishana. We come to know about her past life. How she had been in love and was betrayed. People around her in the big bad world try to pull her down. She has been slut-shamed and what not. Ishana faced really tough situations in her life which helped her to emerge stronger out of it. The story is so interesting that it kept me hooked to the book. It took me a few hours to complete reading this book. Every little incident is described very well in details. The characters are relatable as well. The narration is fast paced and the author has used simple language and hence is an easy, light read. The chapters are short and not at all draggy and boring. The ending has left me wanting to know more. I am extremely eager to know what lies ahead in the story, and I can't wait to read the next part of this gripping and interesting book.
Altogether, it was a great read. I really loved this book. 'The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed' is a perfect romantic thriller. This book is highly recommended to people who love reading books that belong to the romantic thriller genre.
The Slut Chronicles, the title and the cover is so alluring that I couldn’t keep myself away from devouring this book. Like a hungry bird, I dived in to this book. All that I wanted to do then was finish reading the book.
This story is about Ishana, a girl who has been through many hardships only to become a strong person. I love stories with strong protagonists, especially the ones where the characters mold themselves into stronger people. The moment I felt that Ishana is of that kind, I started liking her. The author has portrayed Ishana well.
Ishana is narrating her story to a journalist. She talks about her childhood. There is a constant shift between the past and the present. I felt that it could have been said in a better way. It seemed a little confusing at first. The narration is simple. The lucid language makes this book an easy read. Speaking about the characters and the emotions they portray, I felt that the emotions had gone a bit haywire in some parts.
Another thing that I didn’t appreciate about this book is that it is just the first part. I’ve to wait for the next two books to know Ishana’s story.
Overall, The Slut Chronicles: Betrayed is an engaging read. It will keep you hooked onto its pages until the very end and then, leave you craving for more.
My rating: Cover: 4.5/5 Characters: 4/5 Story: 4/5
