In this heartwarming, feel-good novel, a snowstorm brings a cast of very different characters together at a sleepy New England inn, just in time for Christmas—and maybe even in time for a Christmas miracle.A New England inn seems like the picture-perfect place to spend the holidays. But when a snowstorm shuts the roads and keeps them all inside, the guests find themselves worrying that this Christmas may not be exactly what they dreamed of. Molly just needs to keep her head down and finish her latest book, but her writer’s block is crippling. The arrival of Marcus, a handsome widower with two young girls, is exactly the distraction she doesn’t need. Hannah was hoping for a picturesque winter wedding, but her plans come crashing down when her fiancé calls everything off. She reconnects with her childhood friend, Luke, when he comes to check on his grandmother before the storm. Jeanne and Tim don’t know how they’re going to keep the inn open another year—or how to bridge the distance between them in their marriage. With a flurry of unexpected guests, they’ll have to work together to fix all the problems that crop up. But will it be enough to rekindle their relationship? With faith, and a little bit of Christmas magic, the inn—and its inhabitants—might just make it through the holidays after all in this “beautiful story about strangers becoming friends…and having an unexpectedly joyous time” (Publishers Weekly).
A cozy inn in rural Vermont? Stranded guests snowed in by a blizzard? A wedding that may or may not happen? Drama and fledgling romance at Christmastime? Sign me up! Loved this cozy, atmospheric tale with a large cast all snowed in together for the holidays. Sleigh rides and Christmas cookies. An inn to save and a struggling writer. Old flames and new love. This had all the cozy aspects of a Christmas tale I truly loved with lots of happy endings.
First of all, look at that terrific cover. And I love the title too. Because of these features, this book was love at first sight for me. I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but my last book was a head banger and I was ready to fluff out—and this book did not disappoint.
Hannah is supposed to get married at this beautiful little inn in Vermont over Christmas. The inn owners are looking at their last Christmas at their beloved inn as local competition has badly hurt their business. Molly is a children’s book author with writer’s block. Widower Marcus and his two little girls cannot reach their destination because of the blizzard of all blizzards, but there is room for them at the White Christmas Inn. And Geoffrey Godwin? Well, he’s certainly a strange one. These little arcs and others are at the core of the story, which takes place over a three-day period during a monster snowstorm.
I enjoyed this novel, but I would have liked it even better if it had been a bit meatier. I think deeper character development and perhaps one or two fewer subplots would have beefed up the book considerably. I would have also liked a little more description of the raging blizzard for atmospheric purposes. Having said that, I did like what I saw in the characters and had no problems flipping the pages. And the description regarding the holiday season was wonderful. There was also terrific detail regarding the holiday menus--YUM! Finally, I must give the author kudos for that nice totally unexpected twist at the end.
If you are in the mood for a heartwarming, holiday-themed quick read that scores high on the fluff factor, this one is for you. It certainly fit the bill for me. Of note this is Ms. Wright’s debut novel, and I expect her craft to grow. I would not hesitate to read her next offering.
Many thanks to Net Galley, Howard Books, and Ms. Colleen Wright for an advanced review copy of the book. Opinions are mine alone and are unbiased in any way.
Now this is a gem. I connected with every character's story and I didn't feel any of them were cheesy or unrealistic. Wholesome and clean. Highly recommend!
I know it’s way past Christmas, but I didn’t get a copy until well after the holidays. The winter setting and beautifully described inn are more the stars than the holiday, so that’s okay! There are several little stories/romances here, and each one touched my heart!
Molly a popular author of children’s books is having a bit of writer’s block and hopes her stay at the picturesque inn will spark a story. Nothing works until Marcus and his two little girls, Bailey and Addison show up stranded by the blizzard.
When Hannah gets to the inn, she’s stunned to discover her groom has bailed out on her. Come to find out Trevor is no prize, so this seems to be a blessing in disguise. While licking her wounds Hannah has the chance to reconnect with a childhood friend and playmate, Luke. You can see where this is going, right? Since Luke is an absolute sweetheart, I was thrilled!
Audrey, Hannah’s best friend and matron-of-honor, is thrilled her husband, Jared, was able to wrangle leave to attend Hannah’s wedding since they’re apart so much. Bad weather puts a wrench in the works, and my heart went out to these lovebirds!
Jeanne and Tim, owners of the Evergreen Inn have seen a steady decline in business since a new hotel opened up close by. They’re sure this will be there last Christmas at their beloved inn, and their hearts are broken. The situation has put a strain on their marriage, and they wonder how they’ll make it through.
I loved the sound of the Evergreen Inn! All the wintery details, sights and smells, were vividly described bringing this winter-wonderland to life! The food sounded to die for as well! This is a fairly short book given all the romances, but I thought most were well-developed and satisfying. My favorite stories were Hannah’s and Jeanne and Tim’s, but all were delightful and heartwarming!
Samantha Desz’s narration with quietly pleasant and smooth. She did a wonderful job with the many voices: male, female and two little girls, and I’d happily listen to her again!
I typically don't find myself reading seasonal reads. They usually are exactly as I think they are and my required reading usually stays in the thriller, crazy world. I decided this year to read a Christmas book on Christmas day and this one looked like a good way to go! (Thank you Howard Books!)
It IS exactly as I thought it would be and I loved it! Color me Christmas-ed and jingle my bells! There's as plethora of characters to get to know and they're all quirky in their own blessed way. My favorites would be the interactions between Molly and the kids. 💖
Although we know exactly where the book is going and how it is going to end, I absolutely loved the charm of the Inn, the descriptions that came with it and I REALLY want that recipe for the lemon orange waffles! And the brownies.. and.. and.. and... also, who can book me a room here ASAP?!
I think everyone who loves that Christmas movies on Lifetime/The Hallmark Channel/WE, will absolutely adore this feel good book. I wish romance happened like this. Le sigh. A perfect Christmas read packaged in the cutest and most loving bow and presented to you with flourish.
Thank you to Howard Books & Netgalley for the chance to read and review this novel!
Are you all about Hallmark Christmas movies? If so, The White Christmas Inn is for you. Immediately, I was drawn to this book because two of my favorite Classic Christmas movie titles are joined together: White Christmas and Holiday Inn. This book doesn't have anything to do with the two movies, but all of the cozy Christmas feelings you'll receive are the same. Stranded in Vermont - check! Love connections - check! An adorable inn AND a sleigh - check!
I normally don't like books that tell a variety of perspectives from different characters, but I loved it in this book. It felt like I was watching a movie and getting to know each person individually made the story infinitely better, especially when we see these characters come together in the end. I can't even pick a favorite character because they all were equally interesting to me! I looked forward to each point-of-view and what would happen next. This was an easy four-star read and was exactly what I needed to give me a bit of cheer for the dreary weather we've been having. It feels like it should be Christmas season already!
This is the perfect quick read to add to your Holiday TBR list! Cozy up by the fire with a cup of cocoa and you'll be set to get lost in the experience of The White Christmas Inn. Luckily, you have plenty of time to get this book before Christmas, with the release slated for October 23rd!
This book was recommend to me and I really enjoyed it. A wedding cancelled and a snowstorm causes many unexpected visitors. What could happen? I don't like books with a lot of characters. I get confused rather easily, but this book did a great job of letting you know which characters are which. I caught on rather fast and then fell in love with each and everyone one of them. I have to say Molly and Marcus and Marcus children was my favorite. Just a beautiful story of love after loss. I did enjoy all who stayed at the inn and watching all their dreams come true. Its a fast read as well so you can just sit and enjoy. I recommend The White Christmas Inn for all you out there who want some Christmas joy!! Enjoy!!
GIVE ME ALL THE HEARTWARMING CUTE CHRISTMAS READS! 5 STARS - loved this so much! If you're looking for a fun character driven story with all the hallmark cheese - this is it!! I connected with all of our amazing characters and the christmas vibes - perfection!
We have such a mixed group of characters that all come together at Evergreen Inn over Christmastime. The characters are snowed in from a snow storm and we have a little bit of everything! With details of good food, christmas decor, snow fun and a great cast of characters, with some cute romance --- I WAS HERE FOR THIS. Pick this up ya'll! Cute and clean! Really makes you feel the magic of Christmas.
DNF at about 50% // I think if I had sat down and read this book in a couple of sittings it would have been fine, but because I read it in 15 minute spurts here and there I became bored and eventually gave up. And since I never wanted to pick it up, I ended up getting almost no reading done. I finally threw in the towel and decided if I wanted to be reading something, it wasn't this. One thing I learned from this book is that while I thoroughly enjoy Hallmark movies, reading them might not be my thing. This was definitely a case of a book just not being for me.
How does a small, quaint old inn compete with a bustling, modern ski resort? Very carefully. Jeanne and Tim run the Evergreen Inn in New England, along with Iris, whose ancestors built the Civil War-era home. Iris sold the property to the couple at a bargain price with the stipulation that she could stay and help out. Through attention to detail and personal touches that make each guest feel special, Jeanne has done a fabulous job keeping the inn afloat. However, the couple is having difficulty competing with the popular skiers' paradise, and they have reluctantly concluded that this will be their last Christmas at the inn. Will it also be their last as a couple? The stress of holding the business together has put a strain on their marriage as well.
In Colleen Wright's The White Christmas Inn, the first guest to arrive is Molly, an author/artist who writes and illustrates children’s books. She hopes to finish her next story over the Christmas holiday. She is slightly dismayed when she learns that a wedding is due to take place at the inn the next day, and the bridal party and family will be staying at the inn.
But Mother Nature, among others, has different plans. A raging snowstorm throws a monkey wrench into the plans of travelers, so Jeanne and Tim end up with unexpected guests, while one very important guest is a no-show. Molly has her eyes on Marcus, the attractive father of young daughters Bailey and Addison. Since there are no available rooms, Molly invites them to stay in her suite; the girls are over the moon to be befriended by their favorite author.
Other guests prove to be interesting as well; Geoffrey Godwin, another walk-in due to the storm, is rude and intrusive, until he takes a shine to Iris. Then we begin to see that he has a softer side beneath his gruff, know-it-all exterior. I liked the little that we learned of Iris, and I really enjoyed her grandson Luke. Poor Hannah! She makes the best of a very disappointing situation. Best of all, I think I liked Bailey and Addison. They are so cheerful and exuberant throughout the entire book, and the way they adore Molly is very sweet. Will they (and their dad) be a distraction to Molly, or will they give her the inspiration she needs to finish her book?
Jeanne and Tim bicker off and on, but they do their best to keep things together and make things as wonderful as possible for their guests. How can they possibly find a way to renew their relationship through all this pressure?
Much of the plot is predictable, but the author uses a lot of creativity to make it happen. The artistry used to describe the inn, Molly’s story, and Jeanne’s fabulous meals is enticing. And the book ends on a promising, hopeful note for just about everyone. That’s how we expect Christmas to be.
What a beautiful story THE WHITE CHRISTMAS INN is! The cover just screams holidays to me and I was in love with it the first time I saw it! Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! The twists and turns made it impossible to put down, as I had to know what was going to happen to Molly and Hannah. What an awesome story. All of Colleen's characters feel genuine and relatable and put your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster ride. As you are reading, you will find yourself cheering for all of them, praying they can work out their problems and be happy once again.
THE WHITE CHRISTMAS INN takes place in Vermont just before Christmas. Hannah is supposed to be getting married there but her fiancé has just dropped a bombshell on her. Molly is at the inn trying to break through her writers block and get busy on her next book.It had me flipping through the pages like a woman on a mission. I had to know what was going to happen to Molly and Hannah and all of the secondary characters. THE WHITE CHRISTMAS INN is a heart felt story that will hold you hostage until the very last page. Once you start reading, it will be very hard to put down!
Colleen Wright really knows how to write about personal struggles, family, and forgiveness. Even though this is my first book by Colleen Wright I can not wait to read more by this wonderful and heart tugging author. THE WHITE CHRISTMAS INN plays out just like a Hallmark Holiday movie that we all can't help but watch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Atria Books through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I admit it. I am a sucker for a nicely tied up Christmas tale, especially if there are multiple story lines and all get solved by the end of the book. Is it reality? No, but it is a reminder of the miracle of Christmas. Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and then travel to the Evergreen Inn to spend Christmas with an eclectic cast of characters assembled together to weather a blizzard. Enjoy!
The White Christmas Inn, by Colleen Wright, tells the tale of a group of unexpected guests who find themselves stranded at a boutique inn, due to a sudden snowstorm. The White Inn is owned by a couple whose passion is to run a charming, home style, personal bed and breakfast-type inn where everyone feels welcomed as they are. When a mega resort moves in nearby, the Inn is overshadowed and facing ruin. On the eve of their last Christmas, and an anticipated wedding that never happens, a snowstorm blows in, the Inn is packed with guests, the owners have to get creative about finding supplies, and Christmas magic happens.
At first I wasn’t a fan of one of the Inn’s owners. I did not care for her overly negative, critical manner and I didn’t really connect with some of the other characters. But as the story continued to unfold, I became more invested and appreciated their growth. The conclusion was particularly heartwarming and made the story much more enjoyable and meaningful. This was a sweet Christmas story and I hope this author writes more in the future.
This was a cute feel good Christmas book. I enjoyed the light hearted sappiness. It wasn’t a terribly exciting story. I wasn’t incredibly invested in the characters. There were so many different people and storylines. There wasn’t a lot of character depth. It was pretty predictable, but this is the kind of book that you would expect to be predictable. It was cute though and it would make a good holiday movie.
Making my reservations for December 2019 at the White Christmas Inn. More 3.5 Glittery Snowy Stars
Maybe the best time to read or listen to these comfy little rom-com books are in January, when Christmas is over, the decorations are put away and all we have left are the grey days after the holiday fun. Guests were about to arrive for a Christmas wedding when a huge snowstorm blankets the Northeast and surrounds the little Vermont Inn with three feet of snow. The wedding guests may have trouble getting there but stranded travelers start begging for rooms when the roads close.
The Innkeepers, troubled over finances, worry this may be their last winter season. But feeding guests is their current issue when the food delivery can’t make it to the Inn. Roll back the centuries to horse and buggy, or maybe a sleigh, and provisions retrieved.
Delightful food, cozy days by the fire, a romance or two; why not? Nothing corny or hokey, but pleasant and cheerful. Perfect for a gray January day!
This book is like a Hallmark Christmas movie in book form--it really would make a great one! I loved the characters and their interplay. It's such a classic Christmas trope of having everyone snowed in together, but it just works for the sweetness of this story. And the food descriptions make it all the better. Yum. I want to stay there. This is the perfect feel-good read for the Christmas season.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Cassandra Gold - per RFS . Bentornate mie Fenici! No?!
Another lovely Christmas book, I adored the Inn and all the guests in it. I enjoyed reading everyone’s story from their perspectives. Also, my mouth was watering about 90% of the time because of all the descriptions of the food Jeanne was making! Highly recommend!
First of all, I'd like to say, I adore this cover! It reminds me of home in the country! And may I say, it's perfect for this story?
This is the story that I actually wanted to be in! I wanted to be at the Inn right now, admiring all the decorations, smelling all the scents of Christmas, and the cooking! Right there in the middle of nowhere, basically with lots of snow after the blizzard. The author was speaking my language as soon as I read the first page. I did not put the Nook down until i was done 3 hours later. Talk about miracles of all miracles for everyone! (well except for one, but you have to read on to see what I mean!)
If you want to experience
the aftermath of a blizzard

Romance
and much much more,
then this book is for you.
You'll fall in love with each of the characters. You just simply want to be part of them. The ending was great!
I wouldn't mind reading more books by Colleen Wright. She has a way of bring bunch of characters together without confusing anyone. She can sew each square of the character's stories together effortlessly and flawlessly.
Go and get this book if you're in the mood for Christmas. It's not just romance. It's about family, friends, faith, hope, and miracles. It'll do your soul good! Seriously, this is one of those awesome feel good novel you'd want with cookies and hot chocolate! You'll regret not reading it!
4 and 1/2 stars from me!
I received this wonderful ARC from Howard Books through Net Galley. Thank you!
A really charming feel good book! I felt like I was in a Hallmark Christmas movie the whole time. Also this book will make you very hungry, so many descriptions of tasty treats!
