When you buy a movie novel you expect it at least to depict the plot of the movie in words. Aquaman the Junior novel doesn't even manage this. It generally follows the movie but it ends with the defeat of Manta in the Italian town. The return of the Queen, The Trench, Arthur getting the trident, the massive climactic battle are all omitted. It is also very very sketchy on what it does present - which I could live with, if it did actually present the events of the film - But it changes (and kiddifies) a lot of things - Rather than out-drinking his son, Tom out-eats him for example. Vulko is present when he first meets Mera. The setting of the Manta fight is switched from Sicily to Venice. The whole quest for the trident plot strand is altered. They retrieve a key from a cathedral.

The one highlight are the 8 pages of Aquaman artwork insert in the centre - These are the fabulous original artwork posters - but its a really odd choice for a children's novel or indeed novelization. I'd have expected stills from the film. The only visualization you have of Momoa as Aquaman is the cover.

I'm not sure what the point of this book is - It doesn't tell a coherent story - its a lot of very abrupt cut scenes from the movie - albeit they are in the right order, but it doesn't tell a complete story. There's hardly any description and it doesn't flesh anything out or add anything new. It changes a bunch of stuff and it isn't any use for reference.

Disappointing on almost every level.

AQUAMAN: THE JUNIOR NOVEL is a great companion to the movie that is designed for children. It isn't as intense as the movie, but the humor is definitely still there. It's unique to Aquaman and makes his character that much more appealing. The action keeps the book moving at a fast pace too.

The posters of Aquaman and the different Kingdoms in the middle of the book are something a kid might want to put on their wall. They're small, but the artwork is unique and I love the quotes on them. Those kids who liked Aquaman and can't get enough will enjoy this book. I only wish it didn't end where it did.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of superheroes, action/adventure, and Aquaman.

Ok, here is the deal.
This book was released in November of 2018 to hype kids up about the movie release of Aquaman in DECEMBER of 2018, so NO, the book doesn't cover the entire movie and give away the ending.
It's a marketing ploy used often to get people excited about a film, especially kids and then not tell quite the whole story which I agreed with. As a kid, had I read a movie novelization of a movie I was excited about and got the WHOLE story, I would have been a bit bummed.
For a junior novel, it's pretty good. The artwork insets are cool looking and the book did what it's supposed to... Now that I am done, I wanna watch the movie. 🙂

My first read of 2019!

I actually enjoyed reading it and of course it’s Aquaman! XD!

This is based on the movie and you will find some scenes that were not in the movie or a little bit different. Still it’s really a quick read; only I had to finish reading it cause lack of time and because I was busy with work. Also, the novel finish where the have finished fighting Black Manta so don’t expect to see the rest of the scenes that were in the movie.

Great alternative to watching the movie in theaters if you don't have the means to go watch movies as soon as they come out. If you're like me and waiting to buy the dvd until later, this is a good substitute to hold you over until then, and rather well written for a junior novel.

I can't say how close to the film this adaptation is, but it reads as if the writer was chained in a dungeon and not let out till he finished. There's no sense of fun or adventure in this story. The plot is silly, the characters paper-thin and it ends mid-story.

Not the best ending. Aquaman never actually finds the trident. What happened to Orm? And if he was supposed to end up romantically with Mera they didn't. Otherwise, it was a great book.
