This is it. We made it to the epic conclusion of this substantial run. And holy hell was it a ride!

I was so skeptical at the beginning of this one. It just felt off. It felt wrong. But I am so glad I kept reading! It gets so good and it just stayed at this high level through the end!

Volumes 7 and 8 take us through Murdock as Mayor and then into the Death of Daredevil. Both plots are unpredictable and satisfying. Which is atypical for a conclusion of anything, let alone a nearly 50 issue run.

All of the groundwork that is laid in the 6 previous volumes pays off in a way that is far better than I could have anticipated. This run is what happens when an author has a full vision and is given the freedom to act on it completely.

Both old fans of Daredevil as well as new readers will be able to appreciate this fantastically well thought out story.

Daredevil books are best when we get to see the dichotomy of vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matt Murdock work together despite their conflicting views. Seeing Murdock put into a political office and watching his mind at work is a delight. While seeing Daredevil face off against his greatest villains keeps you on the edge of your seat.

There are many returning characters that are fun to see in action, like Spiderman and Luke Cage, but we also get some new faces like mysterious bad guy Vigil who is honestly a perfect villain for pious Murdock.

I also typically have issues with twist endings but this one worked so well that I wouldn't change a thing. I didn't even know to expect a twist! It was written so well!

Soule truly does understand Daredevil and Murdock as a character. He was made for this book and I'm excited to seek out some of his other works to see if he maintains this level of quality throughout his career.

Please give this whole run a chance. Stick with it past the iffy start, there's a reason for everything that's put on these pages. It's worth the commitment.

I haven't been the biggest fan of Charles Soule's Daredevil run overall but there's no denying it's improved as it's progressed. This volume sees Matt Murdock take over from Wilson Fisk as mayor of New York City (thanks to some quite ridiculous legal nonsense but, whatever...) just as the Hand launch an all-out attack on the city on an unprecedented scale.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. My main complaint is that the final twist was so obvious I honestly thought we already knew this information!

To sum up, this was an action-packed volume with plenty to keep DD fans entertained. Not bad at all.

My favorite story of this run so far. At the end of the last arc, the Hand turned the Kingpin into a pin cushion, leaving matt Murdock the acting Mayor. The Hand have taken over the city, killing any one in uniform they can find. This is pretty much one scene after another topping the previous one as the situation builds and builds. It's a lot of nonstop action. Mike Henderson's art in this is excellent. Some of his best work yet.

2.5 stars.
This volume was fine but, like most of this run, I wasn't in love with it. It felt rushed and kind of silly, especially with the ancient Catholic secret society that was awkwardly set up in a previous volume swooping in to help save the day and Matt empowering a sword with his...Daredevil magic?

This was surprisingly good. Fisk is down, Matt is the new mayor of NYC and he has recruited Foggy and thus begins the war with the hand. The beast is here and he wants Sam Chung and also take revenge on his former enemy Matt and well he assisted by Order of the dragon led by Father Jordan and other heroes of NYC like Spider-man and Elektra do an epic battle to defeat the hand and it goes the way as expected but I loved that aspect. Its simple, brisk and neat and expected and gives you one of the best fights and victories and the aftermath is interesting the moment that happens between Fisk and Matt and what the future brings! The art was insanely good like the fight scenes and its a great read!

[Read as single issues]

With Wilson Fisk out of commission thanks to the horrendous Hand attack lead by the Beast, Deputy Mayor Murdock steps into the big seat and takes control. But with Hand assassins on every street corner and their leader The Beast rampaging across the city in search of Blindspot, can Matt make the most difference behind a desk, or should he be out on the street as Daredevil? And when aid appears from the least likely of places, can Matt hold together a city that his greatest enemy has threatened to tear apart?

I don’t think Charles Soule knows how to chill anymore. This volume of Daredevil is a direct sequel to the previous one, and it gets balls to the wall crazy almost from the word ‘go’. The Hand invading New York seems like something Marvel would want to turn into a mini-event a la Shadowland but thank god they didn’t, because somehow Soule manages to make this craziness seem exactly right for Daredevil’s world despite the fact that there are mystical assassins and Knights Templar priests with jetpacks (yes really) in these issues.

All the momentum from Mayor Fisk just continues to build and build, and Soule once more injects his brand of political drama into the proceedings as Matt tries to cope with his new Mayoral position as well as the literal army of ninjas at his door. With legal jargon flying around at a breakneck pace sometimes it’d be easy to get lost, but you can always tell what’s going on thanks to Soule’s well-honed ability to make sure even the most complex legal ballet is comprehensible by the layman (like me).

What really sells this arc however is the impact of it all – after the last 10 or so issues you’d think this story would come to an end and then we’d head off onto something else, especially since the aftermath for Blindspot feels very final, but the last page of the final issue springboards us directly into the last (and final) volume of Soule’s Daredevil. The gears have changed, but we’re still on the same track that we’ve been on since issue #500, and the ride is just getting started. (No idea why I’m on a car metaphor, but it fits so what the hell).

Mike Henderson, finally free from his Deadpool shackles, steps in to pencil these issues. Henderson’s characters in previous work have sometimes felt a bit jagged and out of proportion, but he seems like a natural fit for Daredevil’s world, with his superheroics (including the bonkers jetpack priests and horse-riding vigilantes) and his talking heads just flowing across the pages. He’s not an artist I’d have thought would fit Daredevil so well, but I’m glad to be proven wrong.

Mayor Murdock is just the next stage in Charles Soule’s long-term Daredevil game, but that doesn’t stop it being a perfect mix of balls-to-the-wall action and legal drama that even How To Get Away With Murder would find hard to top. An unexpectedly suitable artist and the way that Soule walks the delicate line between insanity and unbelivability makes this yet another in a long line of impressive outings for Daredevil.

It was entertaining but wow was it tonally completely different from the rest of Soule's run.

World: The art is solid, I like the art given the tone of this series, the colors are also wonderful and the splash pages when it was used was effective. The world building is solid, it's a continuation of the ridiculous situation that Matt is in now and it goes all in. The pieces that Soule pulls from are from his run and it's well used even if the logic is wanting. The Templars (that's what I'm gonna call them) were unexpected and yeah...came out of nowhere.

Story: The series from Soule has so far tread a thin line between magic and real gritty drama and in this arc it just goes all insane and goes off the deep end. The ridiculous story is unrelenting and moves so quickly. It's a fun story if what came before doesn't feel so different and it makes this story so out of place and not the way Mayor Matt should be. The Templars are do deus ex that it does annoy me (though they have cool armor). It was aight but it was not what we would have expected from Matt Mayor but oh well. So far we've had some nice Matt stories with him out of costume but we did not get that here. Oh well.

Characters: Matt is a little out of character in this arc and also the things he does and the people he enlists are very out of place. Add to that the Templars were very deus ex so they didn't really matter to me. The police were taken out and then not spoken of anymore which I felt was a large character and story issue.

There were issues with the story with the disappearances of the police and nothing about them after which was annoying. It was not a bad story but a really really missed opportunity.

Onward to the next book!

They snapped on this one, my favorite of the entire run I think.

The Hand has attacked New York City and Mayor Fisk is down for the count. According to a policy change Fisk (and Matt) weren't aware of, Matt Murdock is now acting mayor. Matt recruits Foggy and together along with other NYC superheroes, they fight to take back the city.

This got so ridiculous but I was cool with it lol. It was an exciting ridiculous, not a dumb one. Matt's priest from a past issue comes in with his Order of the Dragon badass warrior-priests who had suits that could fly and at one point they steal horses and it was just Daredevil riding a damn horse through the streets??? But it was cool and I loved the action. I love that The Hand ninjas are basically zombies so they don't count in Daredevil's no kill oath so to see him go absolutely ham on them with a fucking sword had me cheering.

Everything was such a Daredevil vibe and that always does the most for me. It has been slowly building to this and you can tell they were told to wrap it up because someone else is coming in.

The art was gorgeous, 10/10. The colors, the way the fights were drawn was so crisp.

A little too replete with guest characters and resolved by a Deux Ex Machina. Enjoyable, if not necessarily a Double-D classic. I will read the next volume to see how Soule wraps this all up.

Daredevil Vol. 7 Mayor Murdock collects issues 601-605 of the Marvel Comics series written by Charles Soule with art by Mike Henderson.

The Hand has attacked New York City and made an attempt on Mayor Fisk’s life, leaving The Kingpin out of commission in the hospital. Due to a legal loophole, Matt Murdoch is now the acting mayor of NY and must do everything in his power to save the city from The Hand’s siege.

The Beast is such a one-dimensional villain here and never feels like the threat he is supposed to be. He literally belched a gas that spread throughout the city, knocking out anyone it came in contact with. His design is also quite ridiculous and I cannot take him serious as a threat. I enjoyed Matt Murdock in the actual Mayoral position, and I wish more was done in that aspect.

It's full on Team Daredevil vs. the Hand. Not too much original in this volume, maybe the introduction of a new "team" fighting for the good of the world, but quite a bit of ninja action for sure. The new team's premise isn't really anything new and not too surprising even with the minimal introduction in an earlier issue. This volume is primarily the action sequence, without a lot of introspection and only minimal characterization. If you limit it to those parameters, the story is at least entertaining.

Probably the most surprising thing was the art by Henderson: it's highly stylized, almost an anime, "Sean Murphy" look and while it contrasts with Garney's style, it's likable and is someone who could stick around somewhere in the Marvel universe.

Mayor Fisk is out of commission so that leaves Matt Murdock as mayor of New York City!

This is basically one big fight scene throughout these 5 issues. We have the hand coming into NYC to take it over but also kill Blindspot. It's actually pretty big takeover as the hand first goes after Fisk but then tries to kill any cops or law enforcement who are stopping them. This leads Matt to deal with being the Mayor of New York but also being Daredevil and stopping them.

I felt like this was the first "Go wild and fun" chapter in Soule's run. I've enjoyed the majority of the run but this one is bonkers. The take over of new york is both fun and over the top. Matt seems more fun in this one for some reason. I also enjoyed all the fight scenes, there's some amazing action set pieces. The ending also sets up some nice plot points.

Wasn't too big of a fan of the "out of nowhere fighters" coming in towards middle half. That seemed a bit weird and the ending of the bad guys was lolz over the top but kind of too silly.

Overall though still really fun. Not the best volume but I enjoyed reading through it a lot. A 3.5 out of 5.

Mayor Murdock is my second favorite volume in this new Daredevil run after Supreme. Matt's mayor after Kingpin was pincushioned by Hand arrows at the end of the previous volume. Ninjas are roaming the city, taking out uniformed officers, and the Beast has set up a headquarters somewhere nearby. Thus, the plot of Mayor Murdock is pretty simple - Matt, as mayor, and Matt, as Daredevil, need to work together to defeat the Hand and the Beast.

The simplicity of the plot benefits this volume. It's straightforward, action-packed, and there are plenty of opportunities for fun cameos. Case in point, Father Jordan shows up with a very surprising revelation that could be a backdoor pilot to a new series. Charles Soule keeps the dialogue to a crisp minimum, improving the pacing and keeping the focus on Mike Henderson's excellent art, which I'd hazard is the best art in the series: clean, colorful, and expressive. The ending is a bit...unclear, with Matt magically imbuing a sword with the power of light? I don't know, it's fine. Bring on more of Mike Henderson's art!

This was a brilliant volume overall, and it brings so many underlying plots to a close and gives us a big old scrap with the hand, the source of most, though not all, of my favorite Daredevil stories. The Defenders get involved, Spider-Man shows up, Elektra, everybody's in on this one the entirety of New York's "street level" crew.

And we see some great moments with Foggy and others too. Father Jordan turns out to be far more interesting than we've been lead to believe so far, and that story marks the one true fresh addition to the Daredevil/MU mythos in this arc. But I'm fine with that.

The one thing I didn't like was the "reveal" at the very end. Ugh. How expected. How trite. How...golly. And it was unnecessary. The story was actually working really well without that. Oh well. Still a great volume over all.

With the Hand attacking New York newly appointed mayor Murdock finds himself in a hot seat. The Beast is here !

All in all this book is rather very good. All-out action with well-handled tension throughout. Think "Assault on precinct 13" with New York as playground.

Matt/DD is Well portrayed, never loosing his cool despite the odds and the stakes.
Foggy seriously comes back into the fray and it feels good.

The major drawback would be who honestly felt a bit ridiculous at first. Then they melt into the action and you just get sucked into it.

The art team does a great job too: Mike Henderson's pencils and storytelling are good and he draws clear action scenes and I really liked Matt Milla's colours.

With the Hand taking down Kingpin, the deputy mayor now has control of the city. Welcome Mayor Matt Murdock! First things first... reverse almost everything that Fisk did. Freeing the heroes from Ryker's, Matt begins a campaign to help take down the Hand once and for all. He releases crime bosses Black Cat, Hammerhead, Diamondback and Owl to help reclaim their territories. He also calls in Elektra, trading information for her services. All seems to be working well, but then "The Beast", creature that The Hand worships, unleashes a possession virus over the city, crippling Matt.
Next to come on the scene is Father Jordan, head of one of the branches of the Order of the Dragon, who joins the cause as well. All forces gathered, Daredevil leads them to take out the Beast, in what will be called the Battle of City Hall. (Very epic, both in scale and in action.)
Fisk returns from the hospital, wanting to reestablish order, but Matt refuses to back down unless he is 1) allowed to resign his role as Deputy Mayor, and 2) Fisk drops charges and ceases with all the Anti-hero propaganda. As he agrees and Matt leaves, he overhears an assistant talk to Fisk about how he rigged the election. Matt knows he can't stop until Fisk pays...
A very action filled Daredevil story, driving hard to towards the end of this run, this was a great ride! High recommend!

Soule ends V6 with some rather shocking events, but then he manages to eat up all that tension almost immediately in V7 with a bunch of reset buttons that remove most of the exciting consequences of the previous volume.

Worse, he goes pretty big screen afterward and loses most of his character details. Consequences? Characterization? The stories of the supporting cast from V6? They're mostly gone. Instead, it's all about Daredevil fighting ninjas. Again.

This volume isn't terrible. It's a fine action-adventure story, but it's also a grave disappointment after the heights of issue #600. In fact, it feels mostly like treading water before yet another "Death of Daredevil" in V8.

Matt Murdock finds himself Mayor of New York City just as the city is attacked by the Hand. The city is literally at war, but Matt gets some unexpected help from a group we haven't met before. This volume continues Soule's strong run on Daredevil.

10/10:
Matt Murdock. Daredevil. The protector of Hell’s Kitchen. Now, the mayor of New York City.

The way that this story was told is so brilliantly executed and I love the intricacies we get with Kingpin and Daredevil together. And that cliffhanger?? WOOOOO BOYYYY

While it was great to have a solid artist for the full 5 issue arc, the storyline was not there.
First third was just undoing everything from the last book, middle third was uninteresting, and ending was anticlimactic.

Read as single issues.

This is probably my favorite volume of Soule’s Daredevil run to date, which, honestly, isn’t saying much. But it was interesting to see Matt dealing with the his newfound position of authority while the Hand and the Beast invade New York. It was also fun to see cameos from quite a few of Daredevil’s fellow street heroes, and to see Matt and Foggy finally (finally!!!) sharing a story again.

Given the revelation on the last page, it will be interesting to see where things go from here.

Culmination of a lot of the pieces. Some fun stuff. But also feels like the disparity of the different parts shows. Hero comics are all about the smorgasbord of pulp genres smashed together, but this one really shows the stitches keeping them there. It can take you out of the narrative. And it is still so far below the BendisBrubakerWaid precedents.

Solo sigo aquí porque me gusta mucho el personaje de Blindspot. Charles Soule hace que Matt sea un gilipollas. No creo que capture bien la esencia del personaje.
