Reapers are the peacekeepers—the balancers of life and death, good and evil. They’re the police of the Underworld in a way. They keep both worlds balanced just enough so that the King of the Underworld can never escape his prison. For the day his reign stretches into the human world, all things good will come to an end. This is the story of a dark king who cursed seven siblings with sins, and how far those seven went to protect both worlds from the end of days when an old entity challenged the Dark One’s very reign. Isabella Wen has spent the last decade in the human world hiding from the one that turned her touch deadly, made her body a weapon for his own gain. Sebastian Reaper—bearer of the sin of sloth and the eldest son of the revered Grim Reaper—has spent his entire life fighting to stay awake because of his curse. When the witch finds the sleepy sloth passed out in the human hospital, they touch and sparks fly. Her touch should have hurt him. Instead, it’s the one thing he’s after. She thinks her darkness is her undoing. He thinks she’s his cure. When her past and her future collide, he must choose between duty and heart. The world or her? Each book in the series is about a different sibling and their sin, so the romance has an ending in each book. As for the storyline, it’s just getting started.
I really enjoyed this like so much from the second I picked this up I was invested and enthralled. "Bewitching Sloth" is a fantastic start to an imaginative new paranormal series that focus on the seven sins. These sins have been bestowed on the children of the Grim Reaper. Seven siblings each carrying an individual stain gifted by the devil himself. This first instalment we join Isabella Wen; a powerful witch who just happens to be on the run from an evil entity and Sebastian Reaper oldest son and keeper of Sloth. From the onset here we are flung right into the action, in fact, this was manic from the first page. With incredible one-liners, fantastic world building and incredible humour, this book delivers on all fronts. Overall this was such an easy read with extremely likeable characters and as an added bonus the side cast was also exceptionally intriguing also; I can honestly say Im looking forward to each and every story that was hinted at here. "Bewitching Sloth" set the stage here so nicely for the unfolding drama and I am already its avid audience. I really can't wait to see what this series is going to bring to the table. This one's a no-brainer for me; Read it, you definitely won't be disappointed; I guarantee you this. Five very well deserved Stars. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of "Bewitching Sloth (Seven Deadly Book 1)" of which I have reviewed voluntary. All opinions are entirely my own.
On the day the seventh child was born, the Devil came to them with curses. Each one representing the seven deadly sins. If you aren’t interested in reading the book after that little snippet of the prologue, then you are all beyond help lol.
A smashing NTMA is always a win.
Sebastian you sleepy sloth you are where we shall begin….
Characters & Chemistry.
Sebastian Reaper eldest son to the Grim Reaper carries the sin and curse of Sloth. He is always drained. Always. He falls asleep at the most inopportune times.
In my head, I could hear my asshole siblings yelling what they always did when this happened, Reaper down! Reaper down! Reaper –
I love Sebastian he is absolutely hilarious, he is loyal, he is protective, and his randomness is endearing. He is adorable in all is sleepy glory.
Isabella Wen a witch and something other, something she calls the darkness is on the run. She trusts no one until a certain reaper “befriends” her.
I like Izzie admittedly not as much as Sebastian but that is a contest no one would win. I did find her somewhat irritating at times as it was all woes me when it came to the darkness. The chemistry between these two is strong and although there is attraction. Trust must be earned.
“And then, when you trust me, we can discuss the no touching.” “Really?” Unbelievable. “This is a serious problem among friends. Friends touch.” I bit back a groan as he started on the touching thing again. “You don’t befriend someone just, so you can touch them.” “This friendship’s special. Just let me touch you and you’ll get that little zap that tells you how important it is for us to be friends.”
These two are fantastic together and seeing as I’m on a self-imposed sex reading ban this truly did work for me. Isabella is Sebastian’s little juice box. Her darkness is also attracted to him.
Writing, Plot & Pace.
It is the beginning of the end. Unless the reapers can stop it.
Izzie was sold at a very young age to a cruel entity that has since her 10th birthday infected her with darkness. The past ten years she has managed to live in the human world and keep a low profile. That is until an accident with a supernatural being occurs. Before she goes on the run she trips over a reaper. But not just any reaper. Sloth.
The expression I’d given him must have been funny because he burst into deep, rumbling laughter. Then he stopped abruptly, his entire body falling. His face landed on top of my legs, his nosed pressed between my thighs. I stiffened and flushed with embarrassment all at once.
Full of imps and ogres and an entity out to rule the Underworld. The entity will send everything he has after Isabella. He wants her back. She wants to leave because the entity wants her exactly where she is, but she can’t leave Sebastian. She is meant to harvest something.
The author knows how to write a fantastic plot with gripping characters and three-dimensional characters. I had a blast with this book and a riot getting to know the whole reaper family. The pace was just right including the right amount of action and the balance with the story buildup and the characters interaction.
Verdict.
A must read in my opinion I can not wait for the other siblings/sins to get their books. I have Grim’s book to read as well. Bravo Ms. Gross. I loved every moment of it.
Next up is Maureen as a Pride. The others are; Wrath – Barron, Greed – August, Lust – Prudence, Envy – Joy, Gluttony – Kitty (Kara)
Started off pretty interesting and intriguing. The Grim Reaper has a family, a big family at that, 7 children , 4 girls and 3 boys. The Devil cursed them each with one of the capital sins. This book is about Sebastian- he has the curse of sloth, meaning he falls asleep for long times unable to wake up, basically a sleeping beauty if you want😅😂. His love interest is Isabella , a witch controlled by the darkness the villain of this book has put upon her.
She is the “weapon “ for the Armageddon , and Harvest- the villain- plans to use her to accomplish his plans for Hell on earth and in every realm for the matter.
As i said, sounded super interesting, but I just felt like sometimes it was written by a 10 year old and other times the writing was on a completely different level.
Big thank you to Michelle for an ARC copy for review
This book was everything! One I am sure that Michelle Gross’s fans will absolutely love. I pretty much mentally devoured Bewitching Sloth in one really long night, but Sebastian and Isabella’s story was very much worth it. These two had igniting chemistry, and what better than to see a witch and a grim reaper falling in love.
”And fate made her mine, and I considered myself very lucky because of it.” ~ Sebastian
This couple is tied right up their with Grim and Melanie as my favorite couple. Speaking of which, I loved seeing Killian and Melanie again, especially with their kids. Of course these characters have their hands full with fighting the depths of hell and dealing with their deadly sins that was cursed upon them, but that’s just another day for the Grim family. The first book in this series was enthralling, and I can’t wait for the rest.
One bad apple, make sure to stay away from him. Don’t let him touch you. Bad, bad, he is. Six are still hopeful, Within their sins. Make sure to take them all, They’ll thank you in the end.
My body thrashed one last time, then silence. When my body rose, I was in search of sins.
Light has no place here. Dark has its own shine. Remember, there are seven, but only six are fruitful. One bad apple. Six to go.
I really, really enjoyed this book. I'm a sucker for in-depth, unique takes on a paranormal story. I found this one to be just that. This is the beginning of a series so there was a lot of background and story set-up. We have seven siblings all cursed with one of the seven deadly sins, they also happen to be the Grim Reaper's children. Over-all a really cool idea.
Sebastian is the bearer of the sin Sloth, not helpful when he is out in the field doing his Reaper duties. Liable to fall asleep at any moment, Sebastian and his siblings are doing their duty until the beginning of the end starts to unfold. He is the eldest sibling and certainly has that, take charge kind of personality. Only most of his siblings can't be controlled and he is sometimes left sleeping.
Isabella literally stumbles into the sleeping giant right as she has given her location away. Isabella has been hiding from her dark past and tormenter for a while now but she can only run so far. She is very skeptical of the sparks that fly when she touches Sebastian but sometimes fate is stronger than anyone's will.
Through an intricate and delicious tale of the underworld's Reapers, Sebastian and Isabella need to see if the darkness will consume them or save them. There is a lot of action and a bunch of pieces at play. There are a number of dark forces and series of events have been set into motion that seems like they will be played out over the next number of books. We meet a number of the players that are going to be involved in the overall story. We met all of the siblings, some witches, demons and all-powerful entities. This book had a ton of content, action, suspense and of course sizzling chemistry. Our characters are a long way from getting to the end and I am so looking forward to seeing it all play out. This was a jam-packed beginning of something interesting and a definite must-read for those who love a good paranormal story.
Once upon a time there were six siblings who were cursed with the seven deadly sins. Each sin different from the next. This is the story of Sebastian and his sin of the Sloth. I loved the idea of this story and was intrigued by where Gross would take it. Bewitching Sloth is action packed yet leaves plenty of questions for the stories to come. Gross is a new to me author and I’m glad I took a chance on reading Bewitching Sloth.
Sebastian works as a Reaper and loves his job. He sees both the bad and the good of the human world. When he stumbles upon Izzie he has no idea who or what she is aside from the fact she’s a witch. He was cursed as a Sloth and will fall into a deep sleep at inopportune times for an unknown amount of time, but with one touch from Izzie and he’s awake. What does this mean?
Isabel (Izzie) is on the run. As a child she was given to a bad man and she barely escaped his clutches the first time. Now she has Sebastian who wants to spend time with her and she’s leery. Especially when stuff around them keeps happening. She makes Sebastian feel alive and he makes her feel safe. What does this mean? What is happening?
These two balance each other out, but at he same time she has the power to bring his family down. I loved how his family kind of embraced her with open arms but wouldn’t get close. Bewitching Sloth took place over what felt like a short amount of time, so I am interested to see if the other books are the same way.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
If you are in the mood for a great paranormal romance book with a seven deadly sins theme then this is so the book for you. As the beginning of a new fabulous series we get the whole background about the curse and why the seven kids carry the deadly sins. Enter Isabella who is in hiding from a very scary guy that finds her life interrupted by Sebastian or Sloth. What follows is some really remarkable world building that really allows you to picture what is going on in between all the character development and romance. Full of plenty of surprise that will keep you guessing while drawing you into the arcing story to the point that now I need book two. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
You can find this review plus more reviews and lots of book fun (including tons of giveaways) on my blog, Declarations of a Fangirl.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Oh yes. Paranormal romance is my jam! This book is definitely 18+ so keep that in mind before purchasing. Let's get on to the fun stuff. Bewitching Sloth was just that: bewitching. I loved Sebastian's character! He was outspoken, confident, capable, funny, and smoking hot with a serious set of fighting skills.
Sebastian just has one problem...he's a severe narcoleptic. Because he is host to the sin of sloth, his energy drains out of him quickly, and lately, every time he succumbs to his sin, he's been staying out longer and longer. His greatest fear is that he will fall asleep and never wake up. But enough of the heavy. Did I mention he's hilarious?
"Is it the hood"? I asked him. "I try to tell Grim that it freaks you guys out, but I think that's why he keeps it mandatory."
He relentlessly pursues Izzie and it first it's not in a romantic way. Her touch wakes him up and gives him tons of energy. Izzie isn't having any of it though. She's a witch who's been on the run from a super demon who can't be killed (in the book, peeps who can't be killed, like at all, are called entities) for several years and has learned that she can only rely on herself. She just wants to be left alone by everyone. She doesn't get close to supernatural creatures because her touch is lethal to everyone....except for Sebastian. And Sebastian desperately needs a solution to his pesky sin problem, so needless to say, he isn't letting her go without a fight.
"Easy there. I feel like I started us out wrong...Let's be friends?" he offered. "No," I answered immediately. "Maybe? Okay, that's good."
There's so much I want to say about this book but can't find the words. The books I enjoy the most are always the hardest to review! I find that scenes/excerpts of the story are what draw me in the most and make me want to read a book, so I'm going to share some of the bits I highlighted on my Kindle.
"You're not curious at all about me?" "No," I replied evenly. "I've been told I've got a good face. Don't you think I have a good face?"
"Love is beautiful, witch, don't laugh about it. Love is strength. It's the very thing we all need that makes life a little easier."
"You have the face of a princess and the touch of the plague, I do believe I'll keep a good distance between us."
"You have the face of a king and the mind of a pig, I think I'll return the favor."
There is so much more to Bewitching Sloth than just mushy moments and sassy comebacks, I promise. There are tons of epic fight scenes and things got really scary there for a while. Books with unhappy endings aren't common, but this one had me on the edge of my seat, swiping left on my Kindle faster than it could keep up with me. There were several scenes that seriously creeped me out. The author's writing style is very descriptive and really draws you in. The story definitely gave me Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter vibes, so if you enjoy books like that, then I highly recommend you give Bewitching Sloth a go. You won't regret it!
You NEED to dive into this amazing and wonderful world! Bewitching Sloth is an amazing new novel that dives into a whole new world. It is a paranormal romance that is a stand-alone, but the main plot will span over the series. This book follows one set of characters while the rest will follow a different set of characters in each book. This book has action, romance, mystery, and a whole lot of Say What?? I knew as soon as I read the blurb of this book that I wanted to read it. I love paranormal romances, but I also love interesting story lines that I have never read before. This book gave me both. What would you do if you were cursed with one of the seven deadly sins? One that causes you to pass out at random times and makes you lose periods of time. This story explores Sebastian, who is cursed with the deadly sin of sloth. When he meets a witch that seems to change everything, will he take a chance on her or turn his back when she needs him most? Sebastian is an amazing character. Man I am in love with him. He is the son of the Grimm Reaper and a reaper himself. I love his heart the most. While he seems cocky on the outside, inside he has a softness to him. Then you have Izzie. She is a very skittish person. She is on the run from her past when she runs right into the reaper. I love how strong she is. While she has a battle to wage, she stays strong and does her best to stay on the right path. The heat in this book is scorching. These two characters have immediate chemistry from the very first touch. It is like the touch they share is a balm to the burn that has been torturing them both for their entire lives. If you like down and dirty heat, then this section of the book is perfect for you. These characters are amazing. The writing style of the book is good. I loved the pace of the book. It was steady but sped up when it needed to. Time passed differently in the book, which makes since. A lot of the book is set in the Underworld so time would pass different than we assume as mere humans. I loved how the story was developed. The author was able to create a whole world for us to explore. She did great at setting this foundation for the series. Overall, I am so in love with this series right now. It was unique and refreshing. The world building is just amazing in this story. Like I cannot wait to read more because I want more of these characters and more of the world. I would recommend this book to others, especially people who love paranormal romance. Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Characters: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
This is a new to me author and I can’t believe I haven’t read her before. This is the beginning of a fantastic series. Sebastian and his siblings are cursed with the seven deadly sins and he happens to be Sloth. Being the son of the Grim Reaper, Sebastian is a reaper also but he has a distinct disadvantage over his siblings- he can fall asleep anywhere and at any time. When he meets Isabella that all changes.
Isabella feels like she is cursed also. When ever she touches someone that has any paranormal blood in them they instantly die, that interferes with her being nurse. But when she touches Sebastian that all changes. She knows he is something other but when he doesn’t instantly die she feels like there is hope. Sparks fly but there is evil stalking them and Sebastian and Isabella have to choose between duty and love.
I can’t wait for the other siblings to get their book!! This author has made me a fan of hers for life.
This world Michelle Gross created is absolutely fantastic! I'm so in love with it! Sebastian and his siblings were cursed with the seven deadly sins, Sebastian is Sloth. Being a Reaper and having the Sloth sin isn't easy. He regularly falls asleep at the drop of a hat. He will stay asleep for days, sometimes even weeks and months. Yet through it all he isn't bitter. He is a really good guy trying to save those he can. It's actually magical to see. When he meets the alluring Isabella, he realizes they both need each other. Even if it takes her awhile to see that. Isabella is great! She's had a rough and evil upbringing, she doesn't remember most of her past but she still thrives and tries to make sure she is a good person. She lives with a darkness inside and she's scared of it. When Sebastian railroads his way into her life, she notices changes in the darkness. Changes for the better.
I was wrapped up in this story and couldn't put it down. I'll admit there was a few places I was confused on, I'm guessing this is a spin-off of another series, but once I got past the confusing parts everything came together and it turned into a unputdownable read! The characters were so intriguing. I felt that each sin the siblings were cursed with shined through true in each of their personalities. This was a pretty explosive book and I can't wait to read more of the siblings, especially Kitty. The Reapers have a lot to do, and not much time to do it in. I have faith in them though!
Not 1, not 2, not even 3, there are going to be 7 incredible paranormal stories about the reapers and the underworld. Michelle Gross has written a unique twist to the entities known as the ‘Reapers’ and what their jobs actually are. I truly enjoyed this book and loved the cocky ego of the sleepy reaper Sebastian and the playful banter between him and his siblings. Bewitching Sloth is action packed, sexy, hot and fun. I can’t wait for the next bookJackal’s Pride. Bewitching Sloth is worth all 5 stars.
Sebastian Reaper is one of seven siblings of Grim- the Grim Reaper. He along with his siblings were cursed as children by the devil with the seven sins and now Sebastian falls unexpectedly to sleep for unknown periods of time. When the touch of a witch wakes Sebastian it surprises both him and the witch. Isabella Wen has also been cursed, if she touches anyone that is not human they will die. When she stumbles upon the sleeping reaper and her darkness calls for her touch him and he wakes she is scared and tries to run. Sebastian is determined that he and Isabella are going to be friends and once he see that she is running from someone other than him he makes it his mission to keep the beautiful witch safe and with him always. As with most missions there are big obstacles and it’s going to take the whole Reaper family to save this one little witch.
I thoroughly enjoyed Bewitching Sloth, it’s first in the series and the story line is unique and unlike any paranormal I’ve read before. I enjoyed getting to know the Reapers and their curses. Sebastian is the sin, Sloth and once fate leads him to Izzy all that is left to do is save the world or maybe just try to make it out alive. If you love paranormal, romance and action this is a great read that is written smoothly and a unique world.
Michelle Gross always delivers a sizzling sexy story within a dark passionate romance. The dark king has bested seven siblings with sins. Together they must fight the greater evil and protect the innocents.
Isabella has been hiding in plain sight with the human world. Given a gift her body is a cage. A deadly weapon that can eliminate anyone in her path.
Sebastian Reaper.... The eldest son of the one and only Grim Reaper bares the sin of sloth. With his curse he fights the temptation of sleep, and the only thing that can keep him awake is the taste of battle.
These two meet under unexpected circumstances and when they touch...... results in utter chaos. Her touch not only harmed him.... but the sloth craves more.
They become each-others anchor, and embrace the darkness within them. Duty always comes first to Sebastian... but when he must decide between his destiny..... or her.
******* I have read this book three times now, and every-time I come back for more. Michelle Gross has become one of my all time favorite PNR / Fantasy author and that will never change. A highly suspenseful read that had me on the edge of my seat! Just when I think things can get any better.... Gross throws a wicked curve ball that leaves me breathless. Sebastian and Isabella's story was full of angst, drama, and a romance that made my poor heart weep.
Seven Deadly has been one of my top highly anticipated read of this year, and after reading it......It devoured my soul, and I couldn't be more happier with the ending.
I am so ready for where this series takes me. One epic adventure, duty and love..... what would you choose?
This was a little dark, steamy and funny. First time reading this author and I preordered the next book in the series and the other books connected to these characters.
Each sibling is cursed with a deadly sin and Sebastian is cursed with sloth. I wondered when I started reading how you could interrupt sloth, poor Sebastian fell asleep at the worst times. This book was hilarious and suspenseful. Sebastian is sweet, strong, loyal and pretty f’ing cool all at the same time.
Isabella’s story is very dark and her past catches up to her when she runs into Sebastian the Reaper. He knows she is special and has to convince this woman they are meant to be.
You get to know all the siblings and parents throughout the book. I felt so connected to both Sebastian and Isabella. I read every time I had a chance to get lost in the Reapers world. Great read and hard to put down.
I enjoyed the story surrounding brothers and sisters with deadly sins. Sebastian and Izzy made a great couple. Izzy tuned out to be a real badass in her own right and Sebastian was a nice OTT alpha at times. Heat level was moderate (a couple explicit sex scenes but were not the focus of the story). Next book will focus on Maureen, the sister with pride. I did not care for her in this book so will probably skip that one. I look forward to reading Wrath’s book though!❤️🔥
It's another amazing book by Michelle Gross. I loved the character development, and the words kept my attention from beginning to end. I am looking forward to the next six books.
Disclaimer: This review MAY contain spoilers. I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.
I was so very pleased with this book! Prior to reading this, I had only read one book by Michelle Gross, One Percent of You, which is a contemporary novel. I was curious how different Bewitching Sloth would be since it is a different genre. One Percent of You is a book that I absolutely loved and rated 5 stars, so I had high hopes for this book. I was not disappointed.
This book is the first book in a spin-off series from Gross's A Grim Awakening series. I actually didn't know this prior to starting Bewitching Sloth. I kind of wish that I had known so that I could have read the initial series before starting this one. I could tell that there were some things that I didn't fully get with the overall backstory. Even so, it didn't take away from this story. The book still felt whole in the sense that the story itself was complete. Having read the other series would have definitely made it a fuller reading experience, but it doesn't take anything away not to have read it first. I know that sounds a tad bit contradictory, I know, so I'll just say that it isn't necessary to read A Grim Awakening prior to reading this book.
When I first started the book it took me a few moments to grasp what was happening. There was a little bit of backstory, which is needed, so I was trying to process everything. I don't know if there is really a better way to include the backstory rather than having everything out in the open at the start of the story, but if there is then I think that it would have made the journey into the story smoother for the reader. I admit to being a little confused at the start, but it honestly didn't last long.
I think that the premise of this story is very creative. I liked that I haven't previously read anything along these lines before. I have read stories about reapers, deadly sins, angels, demons, and the devil and yet nothing that I have read before compares to this at all. It is truly an original interpretation which I really appreciate and commend. The plot of the story wasn't overly complicated but it was compelling and intriguing. The flow was fast-paced but didn't feel at all rushed. Though the pacing was fine, I felt like the story could have had a little more depth. I would have liked some more details added to the story and/or some more rigorous development to the plot or characters.
I enjoyed the two main characters very much. Sebastian and Izzie fit so well together and they had such adorable banter. Their personalities really came out well in the writing. They had convincing backstories, though I would have liked to know even more. I liked that Sebastian's character was easy to tell apart from his siblings. He was vastly different from the rest of them and he had his own voice. Actually, each of them did. I think that their development was executed well. I liked the foreshadowing about the other characters in the series. I am really excited to read the other Reaper siblings' stories.
The romance was so satisfying. While there wasn't any insta-love, there was instant attraction. Their love was something that grew out of trust and admiration, which I loved. They had spectacular chemistry and I adored them to pieces.
Overall, this is a totally original book that I couldn't put down. It has a love story that I was rooting for from the start and characters that I wanted to pluck from the pages if only so I could adopt them into my family. I am so excited to read the next book in this series, Jackal's Pride. The seven deadly sins have never been so fun!
Okay, I've just been sitting here staring at my screen wondering what I will write in this review and my mind is gonna explode I think. There's so many things I want to say that I don't know where to start and where to end.
So .. First of all, LOVED it! I had a huge ass smile on my face since the beginning of the book. It turned into anger and hurt and sadness and love but the smile came always back.
It was funny. More so then the Grimm awakening series. It was exiting. Less then in the Grimm awakening series.
I have to be honest , I liked the Grimm awakening series more but that's probably due to the fact that I am a hard-core fan of Killian and Melanie. And my heart could not take it when they appeared in this first book of the Seven deadly series.
But seriously , I am in awe of this author. She has done it again! Bewithing Sloth will have a special place in my heart and soul right along with Killian and Melanie's story line.
I have guessed a little what will happen with Joy and a certain someone (or something) and I know you can never be sure. But her story is one I am dying to read. But I have a hunch it will be the last story.
Sebastian and Isabella , I love you guys. Don't worry Reaper gang!, I am sure I am going to be loving all you guys and fated ones.
An unexpectedly entertaining read. More like 3.5 stars for me.
As a free Amazon book, I really wasn't expecting much. From the free books I've collected from Amazon, it's rare that I find a book that's entertaining enough to continue reading from the same author, let alone finish the book.
First the cover caught my attention because.........abs. Secondly the synopsis reeled me in. Sins, mystery, and romance. Oh my.
The Grim Reaper had seven children. Tasked with keeping the balance between life and death. Each one is cursed with one of the seven deadly sins by the Devil himself.
Sebastian is the oldest son cursed with one of the seven deadly sins, Sloth. Morally good, strikingly handsome. Also deadly and powerful as a grim reaper...........but tends to fall asleep at the most inopportune moments. He can't help it, he's cursed.
Isabella, a witch hiding in the human world after escaping from an evil entity. Who took her at a young age and turned her into his own power stealing puppet. With a deadly touch she can siphon power from any supernatural.
Mysteriously only Isabella touch (by accident) was the only thing that could wake Sebastian when his curse over takes him *and he falls face first to the floor in a dead sleep* and to Isabella's surprise and relief, doesn't kill or even hurt Sebastian. It's only fitting these two fall in love.
I will continue reading this series. I've got a hunch the Devil will lose the battle he started.
the writing was terrible. i couldn’t get into it. the idea was nice but not enough. the world building was awful. and everything was too shallow.
the characters lacked depth and development. isabella had experienced such a terrible trauma you’d think she’d carry PTSD from it. but that bitch was fine. like all that trauma but for what? it was so unnecessary. nothing to gain from it. no struggles to work through or character development. nothing to work out. she was so boring wtf. and he (i don’t even remember his name) was soo underwhelming. no personality. no depth. nothing.
it got ridiculous sometimes. especially the “action scenes”. i never read such cringey fight and action scenes.
I'm definitely in the minority. The story fell flat for me - I didn't feel the connection between the H and h and the other characters didn't inspire me to look out for their books.
A very good start to the series. Can't wait to read about the rest of the Reapers. You don't have to read the previous series to like this one. Definitely recommend.
Am I reading a different book to everyone else? Because the book I just read was really terrible. My main problem with this book is honestly the quality of writing. What was this? The writing here was similar to what you'd find in an unedited Wattpad novel. Which is a real pity because the concept behind this story and even the couple themselves, Sebastian and Isabella, had every chance of being exciting and unique.
The writing was insanely vague and, at times, downright childish. The world-building was very poor and practically missing from this book. And as a fantasy romance, that bit is usually very important. The characters themselves were under-developed with stunted and awkward dialogue. Where was any sort of introspection or inner thoughts? They are people of the Underworld and Isabella herself has experienced so much trauma. Shouldn't they be conflicted and have some sort of internal struggle to work through? The action scenes were pointless and ridiculous. People were just popping up here and there and getting blasted by balls of magic? Everything was condensed into a few paragraphs lacking any sort of description. Not to mention, there was more telling than showing involved and the plot-holes that were never patched up.
Honestly, what was I supposed to get out of this book?
In conclusion, I am so disappointed in the writing. This book and the unique story behind it had so much potential. But reading what I just read, I will not be coming back to this series or author again.
