Still recovering from his injuries, Eddie Brock – the Wicked Web-Slinger known as VENOM – has to defend NYC against the most powerful foe he’s ever faced! The only thing standing in his way? Miles Morales…SPIDER-MAN! Though Eddie and the symbiote have no qualms with this particular web-slinger, the same can’t be said for Miles’ feelings about Venom…
I've heard a lot about the Donny Cates run of Venom and I can definitely see why. So I technically read this before issue #1 because I was floating between two different reading orders for King in Black and debating whether I wanted to read the comcis for the Absolute Carnage event. Since I decided that I'm going to read all those comics as well this one will come before issue #1
Yes! I mean yes! This is so damn dark, but also really great. I can see why a lot of people were excited for the King in Black event and everything that came before it. This issue specifically focuses on Eddie Brock (Venom) and Miles Morales working together to fight this huge symbiote. Their exchanges were great! While I didn't know much about the history between the two of them, it was clear that Morales was not particularly thrilled about having to work with Venom. For me as a comic book reader, it was my first time seeing Knull on page and damn did he make an appearance. The artwork was gritty and dark and I ate up every single panel. I cannot wait to dive into more issues in this specific run. I know that I'll probably end up only read #1-12 for right now to prepare for Absolute Carnage, but I definitely could see myself going back and reading more. Donny Cates is a heck of a writer.
Dammit, Donny. I can't help but feel like this is a weird demon story you wrote for a Tales from the Crypt episode and slapped a coat of Venom paint on it.
Your stories haven't disappointed me, yet. That's true.
But as awesome as the art is and as colorful as the story is... is it Venom?
En iyi bölüm buydu muhtemelen. Özellikle de son sayfa! Konu çok farklı ve güzel olacağa benziyor. Bir Marvel hikayesine göre fazla gotik ve işte neden Venom’u bu kadar çok seviyorum...
Issue #3 is the best one yet as we near the typical mid-point of the first arc in this new book.
This story is unbelievable. It is deep and dark and has the feel of a horror story. I read another readers review where they compared the feeling they get reading this book to the feeling they got from “The Upside Down” from Stranger Things and that is extremely fitting. It’s so dark, so ominous and bordering on horror. Donny Cates has hit it out of the park and the reception this book has received is well deserved. People are loving this thing, myself included.
The art is Ryan Stegman’s best work, hands down. He’s a talented guy, but the quality of this work is beyond just about anything I’ve seen in comics. His attention to detail throughout the first three books does him great credit.
I highly recommend you pick this and the previous two books up and just bask in their awesome.
Must the God of Symbiotes look so... so, early IMAGE comics? Okay, that's my only gripe. Lotta Spawn vibes and most of it I'd say comes from the killer artwork. Can a soul admire art and also find it pedestrian? There's just something very "Spencer's gifts" about our antagonist and it's rubbing me in one of those "corporate but edgy" ways. Ok. Rant over. Everything else is still stellar. I even found myself getting drawn in when Eddie tells Knull not to take his Symbiote away. I was half expecting a "if you're nothing without the suit then you shouldn't have it" moment. Didn't happen but Eddie definitely needs more self esteem. And a therapist... and a haircut. 😏
Man this story just grabs a hold of you and doesn’t let go. The whole interaction between Miles and Eddy was great!! Really nice how they tie this in with the current Avengers run. And the joke that was made about that was great. Lol!! Plus this new person that shows up is crazy. The potential of story telling that can come from this is amazing!!
