I'm not really sure how to review this book, to be honest. I think it's more a book for mothers than for kids, even though it's technically a children's picture book. It's about how a mother's love for her child continues to grow throughout the years, and all her hopes for her child (that country song about "I hope you dance" came to mind while I was reading it!) I mean, it's a beautiful sentiment and maybe if I were already a parent I would be more into it, but it almost just felt a bit "too" sweet and, well, obvious... besides which I'm not sure how much kids will relate--there are other books about parental love that would be better for kids, I think.

Neither Tara or I can get through reading this book to a kid without crying, This isn't saying so much for me, since I am kind of a sap, but Tara never cries... lovely, lovely book.

I have one word for this book: beautiful.
Someday is a children's story illustrating the journeys of life, from birth to death. It is simply written, and yet it has a way of developing a complex and intense reaction from the reader.
After reading this story to my daughter, I cried and cried and cried... Tears of joy of course. It's a wonderful thing to picture your child as growing up happy, strong, and independent. What more can a parent ask for their child to be? However, It is equally as heartbreaking to picture your child as growing up and not being that little baby, your little baby, anymore. People can get so lost in the moment that it is so easy to forget that one day, everything will be different. What I personally got from this book is that life is short. One day you have a newborn baby, but don't blink, because before you know it, that baby will be grown up and ready for their own life.
This book is perfectly suited for mommy/daughter reading. I think mommy will take more from it than baby, but one day baby will understand.

I do not think I would consider this book to be a children's book. It is a simple book with few words, but I believe it is for adults, for it will truly touch the heart of any mother who reads it.
It is about a mother watching her daughter grow up and eventually her daughter becoming old with silver hair thinking of her mother.
I may be wrong, but I think few children would be intrigued with this book, but definitely a good gift for mothers or for children to keep till they are older and able to appreciate it.

Un libro completamente tierno, historia sencilla y muy sentimental con imágenes que te harán suspirar.
Este libro es perfecto para regalárselo a alguna amiga o conocida embarazada que vaya a tener una hija. Es de esos libros para leérselos a los bebes antes de dormir, y que crezcan con esas historias.

I want to love this book but something about it just doesn’t hit me. The illustrations are beautiful and the concept is very touching. But idk. I want to love it so bad but it doesn’t do anything for me. 😭

It taps straight into my chest, all the nostalgia and the bittersweet nature of growing up. Especially how these lines (from mom to her child) reflect on my childhood, identity, and change.
“Someday I will stand on this porch, and watch your arms waving to me until I no longer see you.
Someday you will look at this house and wonder how something that feels so big can look so small”
I just wish my mom could live with me, side by side, eternally.

After having been read this book aloud with soft music being played in the background and the reader getting chocked up over the words I think I can safely say I can't stand this genre. ugh!!!
The idea is to reflect or project on the fact that kids will eventually grow up and go away.
This book is like the Robert Muncsh book, "love you forever"

Our "assignment" today was to write what came to mind during the book. Following are some of my thoughts:

"Someday your eyes will be filled with a joy so deep that they shine."
This is another one of those really emotional and sweet books that I'm pretty sure was written more for the parents than the kids. It's a very touching story with beautiful and whimsical illustrations about what the future has in store for the child. I will say, the ending is meaningful and all, but it was really a downer and kind of dragged the story down for me. I will also point out that the book is about a daughter, which isn't included in the description. I still like the story but I have a son so I couldn't relate quite as much as a mother of a daughter could.

January 11, 2016Personal response: I thought this was a very emotional book and talks about the lifecycle of a human being as a mother all the way to a grandmother. It is also very joyful and can be happy at times.
Plot: The plot of the story is about a mother has a child and watches her grow up to be older and she dreams about someday when she is older and leaves the house and grows up.
Characterization: there were mostly three characters in this story from mom the daughter and the grandchild. There was background scenery like the dog and the birds.
Impact of Setting: The background was just white with a little bit of illustration to focus on the picture itself. It is very colorful and shows not much detail but enough. The writing is like if somebody wrote a poem in the book.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to parents that will read this to their younger children. I would also recommend this book for grandmothers and grandparents for their grandchildren and passes on through generations of new children.

Being a mom of a soon to be one year old, I read this book and got all choked up. I was actually a little saddened by it. Partly because last night I was planning her birthday party and thinking I can't believe she is already almost one! I don't feel this is a book for my baby girl but rather a book for my baby girl when she is all grown up. I realize she will do just that someday. Life moves fast enough. I gave it a three star because I did appreciate it and it is a reminder to enjoy life and your child.

Forgot to review this sweet one. This was a Christmas present for my 21 yo daughter. And yes, it has all the feels...there will be tears, both happy and sad. 😊😔

Call me a sappy mom, but I cried the first time I read this book. This short book encapsulates the hopes and dreams I have for my girls. I just loved it and can't wait to read it to our girls. It's a terrific book for all moms.

oh my heart. this book is one of my favorite picture books and one I will send with my girl when she's grown and heading off on her own. such a sweet little story about growing up and mamas and their daughters.

"Kiedyś" to jedna z tych bardzo cienkich książek, w których niby jest mało tekstu, ale człowiek i tak jest w stanie się na nim wzruszyć. Alison McGhee pokazuje nam świat macierzyństwa i tego, jakie relacje łączą matkę z córką na przestrzeni kilkudziesięciu lat.
Według mnie na uwagę zasługują proste, ale przyjemne dla oka ilustracje autorstwa P. H. Reynoldsa.
Był moment, w którym poleciała mi łezka, ale jednak czegoś mi zabrakło w tej krótkiej historii. Myślę, że niestety szybko mogę o niej zapomnieć. Uważam, że mogłaby być nieco dłuższa albo obszerniejsza w tekst, bo jednak te poszczególne etapy życia jakoś w niej mi umykały. Nie czułam takiej głębi. Ciężko mi dokładnie określić, co mam na myśli. Tak naprawdę najbardziej uderzyło we mnie zdanie, które umieściłam na samym początku tej opinii. Inne jakoś powoli ulatują z mojej głowy...

Beyond adorable. I of course had to read this when I was already feeling emotional with how fast my babies are growing. This book features the unconditional, undying love that a mother has for her baby, child, teen, adult, and older adult. It features different ups and downs within life and always—Mom is there. I can’t wait to give this to my kids. This book would be a wonderful graduation, wedding, or baby shower book that highlights a special bond that will never be broken, even as life changes and distance comes
