Vincent’s past threatens to overthrow his future. The solution? He’s about to find it in the storage closet at his friend’s wedding.
Independent, introverted, and eager to please, all single dad Vincent is expecting when he flies in to attend his friend’s wedding is a good time… not an irresistible older omega who slips into his heart as quickly as he slips into his bed. With a job relocation to the city on the horizon, a relationship isn’t off the table, but there’s a catch.
There’s something about Vincent’s past his prospective lover needs to know—something he’d rather leave behind.
Can he jeopardize his fresh start for a chance at love?
Alone his entire life, all Mal wants is to have a family. The solution? Take matters into his own hands…
Always a babysitter, never a dad, Mal has struggled with issues of self-worth his entire life, and at his age, he’s come to accept that he’s meant to be alone. Eager to have a family he can love, and who will love him back, he decides to pursue IVF and start a family on his own. But when his path intersects Vincent’s, he finds himself questioning whether love really is possible.
Mal is no stranger to the evil in men’s hearts. The only one he can trust is himself, isn’t it? But with kind and thoughtful Vincent, imagining a brighter future is a temptation that might prove too good to resist.
When life reunites their paths in unexpected ways after a sizzling one-night stand, Vincent and Mal are faced with a choice—let their forbidden connection keep them apart, or indulge in love and lust like they’ve never known it before.
The Solution is a 90,000 word contemporary omegaverse mpreg novel featuring a quirky group of single dads, fabulous revenge, an ice-cold shower that will leave you hot beneath the collar, and a unique take on Daddy kink perfect for two men who don’t quite fit the mold.
Piper Scott debuted as a trio of authors looking to write together for fun. Their collaboration led to three novella-length books (Love Me, Save Me, and Keep Me,) before life sent them in different directions, leaving just one author with an omegaverse plot bunny that wouldn’t leave her alone. Obey was born several months later… but the plot bunny never left—it multiplied.
Left to her own devices, Piper Scott writes scorching but heartfelt contemporary omegaverse romance about men you can’t help but fall in love with.
Piper Scott blows my mind again, and Michael Ferraiuolo's incredible performances propels this one over into fan-freaking-tastic x 1000. The third book in their Single Dad Support Group series, Scott delivers all the feels in The Solution.
Starting off with a bang, a hot and sexy meet-cute gets these two together, and the rest of their story is sweet and romantic and a seriously wonderful time. There’s a bit of angst, the snarky fun with the dads from the support group, and Vincent’s charming and adorable little daughter.
I adore Michael Ferraiuolo, and he delivers his absolute best in The Solution. The variety of voices he comes up with for this cast is incredible, and what he does with Vincent’s daughter Nicky is the highlight of the story for me.
A fun and creative series, the Single Dad Support Group novels are all great, and you can read them independently, but for me, The Solution is the best.
an audiobook copy of The Solution was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review
This was a solid third installment to this series that I've been enjoying. Again, it's mpreg so if that's not your thing, then this one isn't for you.
Mal, who was probably in the series that this series is a spin-off of when he was young, is now 5o years old, and he is rapidly losing his chance to conceive a child and have his own, when for many years he's been a babysitter, never a parent himself.
Mal has been through past abuse that was over 20 years prior, but it still effects him to that day, even with extensive therapy. It just shows that even with help, trauma someone has been through never goes away, they just learn how to handle it.
And Mal has never found the one man to spend the rest of his life with - past boyfriends have run after they learn of Mal's problems. But after half a century of living, he finally finds someone in Vincent, a.k.a xVariety in the Single Dad Support Group.
The single dads (which are dwindling now) come to Laurence and Alex's wedding and finally meet in person.
This was a tad insta-lovey, although it was more insta-lust in a way, it still had touches of insta-love. Mal and Vincent have a one night stand, but when they meet again they realize their love fairly quickly. Although not too quickly as to be quite insta-love.
Mal has been trying have a baby through IVF, but it isn't working, and when his doctor refers him to a clinical trial in it's first round, Mal jumps at the chance because it's his last chance to conceive. Mal is determined to it on his own and have his own child after seeing all his friends have kids and the kids he babysat getting married and having kids (Alex and Gage are among those kids).
I don't how realistic it is that a 50-year-old can still get pregnant, carry the baby to term and nothing happens, it all goes smoothly, but it must be through this trial Mal goes through that it goes so well.
I thought this book did some interesting things, like how and Mal and Vincent's dynamic was new and interesting, i thought - how they both weren't all dominant over the other or submissive to the other, they both had moments of both, and there was a bit of a daddy-kink with Mal, who was the omega.
Although, for me, I don't think the daddy kink worked that well in this one? Aside from Vincent calling Mal Daddy and Mal calling Vincent baby, and a few times "baby boy," it wasn't that present in the story and not delved into deeply, so I personally don't think it was necessary to the story. But it also doesn't take anything away from the story as well, so it isn't too big a deal.
Although .
And Mal is the sweetest, and Vincent was a sweetheart too. They were both so kind and respectful to each other and they were just wonderful to each other, I thought they were adorable together. The steam could have been steamier, but it still fun to read ;)
Overall, this was a fun read and mostly kept up with the past two books in this series, it just wasn't quite as good as the others in this series. (Although there wasn't the unnecessary drama of the last one, so...point for this book :D)
I liked both Mal and Vince and that there is a different plot here. Mal has been trying to get pregnant and is running out of options. Vince, a member of the Single Dads, is starting a new life in a new town with his daughter and the reasons for this were a surprise that I didn't see coming and enjoyed. The plot was very focused on the relationship and the potential pitfalls once Mal becomes enrolled in an IVF clinical trial Vince is working on. There's not much angst or drama other than them developing their relationship and working on building a family together.
Unfortunately there were some issues that keep me from rating the story higher. First there is the build-up to whether or not another doctor on the clinical trial knows about their relationship and will cause trouble. It's a pretty big part of the story until the doctor is suddenly no longer there. I felt cheated out of the resolution since we are only told in one sentence what happened to him, especially since it had been a big worry for a good part of the book. (After finishing the book, I did a bit of research and it appears that he will be part of an upcoming story. Still, it bothered me that it was left hanging.)
Also, unbeknownst to me, this series appears to be a spin-off of a prior story or series. Mal has quite a horrible past apparently, but it appears to have been told in that other series. There are plenty of references so I know what went on and how bad it was, but I felt detached from what should have been an upsetting and emotional situation. I think had I read whichever book he appears in I would have felt a lot more for him.
This was a pretty quick read, with minimal drama. Vince and Mal are both very hot and very sweet together and we get updates on the prior couples and the rest of the since dads. I'm still convinced that Knot is going to be the most interesting of the group and hope to get his story soon.
I really liked the first two books but this one has a different kind of feel to it. I'm not sure what it is exactly.... Maybe just the conflicting personalities of the characters, there dynamic and their actions? Idk? But I was almost sure that while reading some of the parts of this book, things that happened and how they were written just weren't going to work out in a positive way. And then, they totally completely did, and it blew me away.
Mal is an older Omega, who is trying desperately to get pregnant before it’s too late. All he wants is to have a baby and make the family he’s wanted for years and since finding a partner to share his life with has failed him, he is trying to make a go of it alone. He's been damaged in the past and has some emotional baggage that he is determined to put in the past and try to ignore. I know Mal was previously seen in another book from this author as a supporting character, but I have not read it, so there were some times during this book I almost felt like I was missing part of his story. I'm not sure if parts of this book would have made a little more sense if I would have read that book first and gotten more detail on his backstory? But I really liked Mal's personality, he’s been through a lot and seen a lot and he is still ready to move on with life and do whatever he can to give himself the happy ending he deserves.
Vincent is a younger Alpha ~With a Twist~ that you don’t really see coming. Holy Smokes. But from the moment he meets Mal the sparks fly and the Heat and connection and the dynamic between the two is amazing. This book was so deliciously Dirty and Hot. They have the whole Daddy/Boy domination/submission vibe going, with another twist to it. LOL. There’s just twists all over this book and it kept me intrigued. The fact that they are both not the "norm" of what you usually see in Alpha/Omega books is what totally pulls you into this one and keeps you guessing as to what will happen next between the two men. Adding Vincent’s daughter Nikki into the story was a bonus, she was super adorable and I loved that she had a crush on Gwynn’s teenage son, Lol that was cute. I am very curious about what exactly happened between Vincent and her mom though, I would have loved to know more about what happened there. Oh, and I also really want to know what happens to that other doctor Dr. Biernacki. I hope we get to hear what his story is in the future because I want to know what led him to act the way he did, and that part did not feel complete to me, I need to know more about him. This author always does a great job adding in all the extras you need to make a great story and series flow perfectly while still making you have to guess at what will happen next. While this book was not my favorite in the series I really did like it and cannot wait to see what, and whose story is coming next.
I had suspicious that Mal is going to be in the next book after finishing Gage's book, but it was a kind of surprise that xV from the group, not Knot.LOL. And xV's condition also a fresh surprise to me. And this 'condition' is the first one I found in this omega-verse sub-genre, with all the therapy and all . I had fun with the findings, and also with the group chat, overall, the Single Dad support Group is so much fun.
This is a nice surprise finding out that Vincent and Mal are both 'different' from the other members of Single Dad Support Group. I liked the group chat, I enjoyed the process in Mal and V's relationship. All and all, this was a fun, enjoyable read, and you'll find a refreshing surprise about Vincent's condition. And Mal? He deserves his HEA after all!

Until LoveHarley and KnotMyProblem's book comes out this one is the best out of the series.
I just love Mal and Vincent. I would love a follow-up novella with their kinky escapades now that the twins are born. This book was very different from other Omegaverse book (you'll have to read to find out). Very surprising.
If you’ve read/listened to ‘The Problem’ and ‘The Proposal’...the first 2 books in SDSG than you’ll recognize the names of both MCs in this story.
Mal’s gone from being a child care provider to friend and confidant for some of the men and/or their partners in the SDSG. While Vincent’s the man responsible for bringing the group together so it’s not surprising that these two men would meet when one of the groups members finally ties the knot.
Vincent and Mal both have issues from their past that may make them reluctant to have a relationship but neither man is immune to the attraction that they feel for each other. Vincent’s hoping that a move to a new city will give him and his daughter the fresh start that he’s looking for. While Mal’s hoping that the drug study that he’s taking part in will give him the family that he’s always wanted…neither man realizes that they’re the key to making each other’s dreams come true when they meet at the wedding of their mutual friends…in a broom closet of all places.
Michael Ferraiuolo was the narrator for this audio book and once again he did not disappoint. While I enjoyed the narration for this one every bit as much as the first two stories. I’m quickly becoming a fan of Knot-My-Problem. I love the tone of his voice and the narrator has given him the perfect level of snark making him someone that I was to discover more about as oppose to someone that I wish would go away which could easily happen, but this character for me feels like someone who’s trying to hide a kind and caring nature behind the façade of someone who’s stand-offish and aloof…but, Knot’s another character for another story so back to the MCs at hand…Mal and Vincent.
I’ve enjoyed both of these characters from the very beginning of this series and for me they were a perfect pairing. Mal’s past has left him fragile and damaged when it comes to matters of the heart but underneath it all he’s stronger than he thinks, he just needs to find the right person to help him take a chance on love.
Vincent’s in the same position. His marriage turned out to be toxic and he needed to get away so that he could find his confidence in himself again and someone like Mal is just what he needs. Both of these men may have suffered heartache in the past that’s left them feeling vulnerable but with time and the right person they’re willing to give love one more chance.
I love second chance stories and “The Proposal” was definitely all about second chances and not just for Mal and Vincent, but for all of the members of SDSG. While I wasn’t quite as enamoured of this story as I thought I’d be. There were aspects of Vincent’s background story that didn’t quite work for me and just felt a little bit contrived. Along with the fact that at 9 hours and 30 minutes there were moments that felt like maybe things could have been shortened just a tiny bit to improve the overall flow of the story, I wouldn’t say that the story was spoiled for me but these things were a bit of a detraction from my overall enjoyment of the story.
However, I’m still looking forward to finding out what’s in store for Harley and Knot-My-Problem along with some of the other characters, such as Matthew and Caleb whom we’ve already been introduced to in this series. Plus there are more potential glitter bombings to be enjoyed and still my favorite part of all the conversations held by the members of the SDSG when they’re on-line.

An audio book of “The Decision” was graciously provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
So what I liked about this was it was fun and happy and had minimal drama and angst. What I didn’t like it was the minimal drama and angst.
I think what Piper Scott does best is good drama and angst (except the one in the last book. That was a bit of a disaster imo) but there was none here.
While I don’t always expect the same and sometimes it’s refreshing to have something different, I think Piper Scott actually let the opportunities slide. There were at least two legitimate plot points that felt like it was being built for an eventual meltdown. But it was never used. The golden opportunity was never taken. And I find that a shame because it would have been so perfect and organic! (Unlike in The Proposal)
So while I guess I still enjoyed the love story between Vincent and Mal, it just seemed like such a wasted opportunity....! ☹️
But for those who’s had enough drama and angst for awhile, this would be perfect for you. It’s a sweet romance, one that would make you smile and smile and smile. So I guess there’s that 😉
I loved this story about a man that’s been through a lot and finally finds his happy ending. This series is a true joy to listen to. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good dialogues Well described characters and secondary characters that’s familiar and some I want to hear more about.
Narrator: Clear pronunciation and read with feelings
5 stars overall for story that I couldn’t stop listening to.
From the first moment we meet Mal in Love Me I wanted his story. I love all of this authors books and this book also did not disappoint. Mal and Vincent were both incredibly sweet and earnest.
The sexual dynamic between the two MCs was perfect and so different than what I usually read. I liked seeing Mal's journey and how much Vincent was a part of that. This book definitely gave me some emotions when addressing Mal, his past and his want for a family. I also liked learning about Vincent and how much him and Mal connected.
This author does an amazing job with the supporting characters. I loved Nikki and how strong and bold she was. Of course, it is always nice to see past characters and the SDSG. Excited for the next book!
Vincent and Mal are utterly lovely together! Both of their pasts are revealed slowly, fitting pieces together and showing how each of them have moved onward from hurts and healed from emotional (and physical) injuries to be better people on their own, in turn making them each the one the other needs so deeply in their heart. Sigh, heart eyes, and smooshy feels!
Loved everything about this! Fave character was definitely Vincent though - I was quite surprised when he was revealed to have been born an omega that transitioned into an alpha but that made me love him all the more. I actually love the fact that that’s the direction the author took because it’s not one I’ve seen done before in A/B/O books and it was incredible. As I always say, onto the next book!
Oh Vincent and Mal!!! I can't even tell you guys how much I loved this third book in the Single Dad Support Group series... my favorite of the series to date. First, we get the support group all together for the first time in person at Alex and Gwynn's wedding, and it. Is. Glorious. I could not stop laughing. These guys really care about each other and support each other, but they also antagonize and prank each other and the hilarious way they do so is fantastic. I am really enjoying getting to know the other dads in the group more.
Vincent, aka xVerity, is EVERYTHING. Guys, seriously, he is one of my favorite characters I have read in a long time. He is an amazing father and friend, sweet, loyal, caring, absolutely brilliant, and just all around wonderful. And sexy as hell!!! I was pleasantly surprised at his occupation, and his secret? PLOT. TWIST... and it just made me love him that much more. I love the way Piper Scott handled that storyline, and it is a pretty unique thing to find in mpreg. And I LOVED it. And Mal!! I was so happy to see Mal finally get his HEA. If you have read Piper Scott before, you have more than likely met Mal, and he deserves every bit of happiness he can get. I love how he is finally taking charge of his own destiny and starting the family he has always wanted. So. Many. Feels.
When Vincent and Mal first meet at the wedding, they have a HOT encounter. But the rest of their night? Man, I thought my kindle was going to explode. They end up back in each other's lives in an unexpected way.. and that is all I am going to say because this book should be enjoyed without spoilers. The relationship that develops between them is sexy and so freaking hot, sweet and loving, and I was cheering for them the entire time. They are perfect for each other. *swoon*
This series gets better with each book, and I am *dying* for Harley and Knot to find their HEAs, too. Also.. placenta. Hahahahahaha. Trust me, you want to read this book!
overall it was a cute book, Nikki was adorable and Mals relationship with her when they met was cute.
the thing that bugged me with this story was that it felt like Mals backstory was from another series, and i guess it was. you don't have to read that series before you go in to these stories, but for this book i wish i had a better understanding.
also i wished we had more with Melissa and Vincents relationship.. we were told it but not much came from that.
I do always love the SDSG group texts, makes the story in my opinion. I am interested in learning about Harley in this up coming book!
i am SO happy Mal got his HEA. he deserved it so much. The Alpha/Omega situation vincent found himself in was extremely unique which i loved but i kind of wished we got to see a little more into his feelings over that whole situation. I found myself wondering more about nikki was her mom her "mom" and also how she came to be. SO MANY QUESTIONS! I also fell in love with knot and Harley. i don't even care which dad gets the next book. i cannot wait !!!!
This is my favorite so far of the SDSG series. Mal and Vincent were spectacular! They were so great for each other, pretty much the perfect couple. Nikki was adorable too. I was really worried that they were going to get caught throughout most of it though, so that kept it angsty for me.
The Solution by Piper Scott is the third book in the Sinhle Dad Support Group series. It's xVerity's turn to find love.... And finally Mal's turn too. This story is sweet, sexy, and a whole lot of fun. These characters are ones that will stick with you and call you back to their world again and again. A definite recommended story and series.
I really like this series. The main characters are all likeable and funny. Mal and Vincent both were trying to over come a past that was trying to keep them back. But together they found a way around it.
This is my first time reading and listening to this book, and I will say this is my favorite out of the series so far. The plot, characters, and everything else was really interesting. For some reason I don't exactly have a whole lot to say, but I really enjoyed this book.
* Spoilers * I will say that the Daddy/boy dynamic between Vincent and Mal was an unexpected surprise. In the beginning during the closet scene I suspected there would some sort of dominance and submissive dynamic between them, but it went in a direction that I wasn't expecting but really seemed to suit them. I really liked Vincent as a character and Mal as well. Despite what had happened in their pasts, they have been able to get past it and make their own future and happiness. I found that Vincent is a rather funny character and had me laughing at some of his comments with the single dads group and Mal. I wasn't exactly expecting the whole twist of Vincent's character and what he used to be. I suspected there was something up during the first night Mal and Vincent slept together, like maybe he was a beta or something, but to learn he used to be an omega was very interesting. I think this is a first time for me reading about what would technically be a transgender aspect/character in a book. It was really interesting learning about his feelings and what he went through, and I honestly feel bad that everyone back at his former home didn't accept him for who he truly was and that his ex-wife was so toxic and gave him a hard time for what he had decided to do to make himself happy. I do have to agree with Mal that just looking at him you wouldn't expect him to be anything but an alpha, but he has different aspects compared to other alphas, such as his deep understanding of omegas and his nurturing side to him that I really liked about his character. Mal and Vincent really fit each other, and I'm so glad that they both have found someone who appreciates and loves them for who they are. I honestly think that Nikki will be understanding of the truth to how she was born when Vincent reveals it as I don't see any way that she would resent Vincent for trying to be happy along with the comment she made about her mother not understanding that different people need different things to be happy. I honestly don't know if knowing the truth would make her feel negatively towards her mother or not, but I understand why Vincent wouldn't want to influence her decision on the matter. I was a bit sad that Mal's children won't be biologically related to Vincent and Nikki, but that honestly doesn't matter since not being blood related doesn't make them any less of a family. I am looking forwards to seeing this family again in the future. I will admit though I was hoping Mal was less than 50 so that he would be able to have more time with Vincent, Nikki, and their children. I also highly doubt Mal will want to become pregnant again or if it would even be possible to get pregnant at his age since he has already achieved his dream of having a family. There were a few things I didn't understand. The interaction between Mal, Everett, and Caleb in the elevator for instance. Mal had said they were acting like teenagers even though they are in their late twenties. Was their comment about finding Mal a hookup because they were making fun of his age or the fact that he was wanting to have children despite how old he was? That whole interaction was confusing and seemed to hurt Mal, so I had hoped to have gotten some insight on what had happened in Mal's point of view. There was also the whole interactions with the omega doctor ( which I forgot how to spell his last name) who seemed to suspect Mal and Vincent of being in a relationship. I know this doctor appears in book 5, so I have an idea of what was going on, I'm just confused by how he behaved. On one hand he seemed to be really curious on Vincent and Mal's relationship and I'm pretty sure with how much he stared at them and a few moments during the clinical trial and his confrontation with Vincent, I'm pretty sure he has figured out that they were in a relationship. On the other hand he seemed to sort of resent Vincent for some reason if he was trying so hard to make Vincent confess about what was truly going on. Would he have went to the higher ups about it or would he have kept quiet about it seeing how much Vincent and Mal care for each other. I'm curious if he was curious about the fact that in his eyes an alpha and an omega are in a relationship but the omega is taking a clinical trial to get pregnant and the alpha is doing all he can to act like they are complete strangers while going with the trial to get the omega pregnant, wouldn't that cause curiosity for anyone about what was going on? He also seemed completely aware about by he cock cage and seemed even more depressed after that, which he would have known the reason behind that was to help with the pregnancy and it wasn't abuse.
Note: This is the third book in this series and as such contains spoilers for the first two books. It can be read as a standalone, but is probably more enjoyable if read in order to gain full understanding of the context for this couple’s story.
At the beginning of this story, Vincent decides to join the rest of the single dads from his Single Dad Support Group chat group at the wedding of one of their members – who will now no longer be a single dad 🙂 But he’s still a dad and they group is excited to be there for him. A friend of the other groom, Mal is another guest at the wedding. He’s an older omega who wants to be a dad so badly now that he’s in a secure place in his life. He’s taken care of a lot of other people’s children over the years, but he yearns for his own. With his IVF treatments, he’s gone into heat unexpected and although he took his blockers, he’s still feeling the effects. When Vincent discovers him, he offers to help him out 🙂
As the wedding party comes to an end, Vincent follows Mal since he really enjoyed his time with him and would love to spend the night with him helping him with his heat 😉 He has given Mal his card, which is more than he ever does with his hook ups. He’s also up front with Mal about his ability to father a child that Mal has shared he really wants. But they head off into the night together and have a great time – although Mal does kind of sneak off before morning.
Fast forward a couple of months and Mal’s latest IVF doesn’t work. His last resort is a trial run by a local pharmaceutical company that he manages to get in. But imagine his surprise when one of the doctors is the alpha he spent the night with after his friends wedding. They both play it cool like they are just meeting. Vincent’s last name is different to what he provided to Mal and there’s a story there, but Mal doesn’t have a clue what it is. When they meet after the visit – totally against protocol and policy – Vincent shares his truth with Mal as to why he can’t father a child even though he already has a daughter it’s something completely unexpected for Mal. But he doesn’t care – he’s comfortable with and attracted to Vincent who seems to be able to give him everything else he needs. And if the trial goes well, then he’ll had a hand in giving him the thing he most desires as well – a child.
Meanwhile, one of the other doctors is suspicious about Mal and Vincent. They both have pretty much everything to lose if their connection is discovered – at least until Vincent’s part of the process is over. Both want to continue to build on their relationship. Vincent introduces his daughter Nicki to Mal. Mal and Nicki take to each other immediately and Vincent couldn’t be more thrilled. For his part, he’s found someone who accepts him – all of him – with the added bonus of caring for his child 🙂 Both Mal and Vincent have found something they both thought to either be elusive or nonexistent in their futures.
I really liked this story in this universe. Mal has been through a lot. But he’s finally in a good place and he wants to share his future with a child – something he thought he’d never get to experience. The fact that Vincent is the one to help him realize that dream is a HUGE bonus. He’s attracted to Vincent and he feels safe with Vincent – as Vincent does with him. Vincent has his own reasons for wanting a fresh start in a new life in a new city with his daughter. I LOVED the way the author explained Vincent’s situation and I adored how Mal reacted to Vincent’s revelation. Just so sweet. I was so happy for Mall to get his own HEA – in all things – particularly after he’d suffered so much in the past. Vincent is such a good guy and really wants to care for Mal and make a life together. They were just perfect together. As usual Michael Ferraiuolo is stellar in his narration. The many and varied voice were spot on for this cast of characters. The Single Dads alone are a challenge, but then add in the secondary characters and its a lot – but he’s up to the task. I really like this little world this author has created. This group of friends is entertaining and supportive and just a lot of fun to watch change and grow over the series. Definitely recommended and I’m on to the next book!
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio file of this book.
This is book 3 in the Single Dads Support group series, and it's not necessary to read/listen to books one and two first. Mal is Gage's babysitter and Vincent is in the group, so they both pop up in both previous books, but their story can be read as a stand alone.
And I think, for me, this is my favourite of these three! I LOVED The Problem, book one but The Proposal, book two, didn't quite work for me. This one?? This is equal to, or possibly, surpasses The Problem!
Mal is 50, and is trying IVF for a baby. His last chance, actually. When he is accepted in a drug trial to do just what Mal wants it to, he knows this is possibly his only chance to ever have his own baby. Meeting Vincent at Alex and Laurance's wedding was amazing, and Mal would have loved to developed a relationship with the younger alpha, however Vincent lives too far away. When Mal meets his doctor for the drug trial, coming face to face with Vincent was not what he was expecting. Can they make this work, even with their history? Can both men give up their secrets?
I'm listening my way through these books, and I usually keep my review for the book seperate from my review for the audio but I'm finding as I thoroughly enjoy a book that I cannot do that, and since I freaking LOVED this book, I can't here.
Michael Ferraiuolo narrates. His voices for all the characters are consistent across the three books I've listened to, and each and every time he NAILS the narration for the emotions these guys are going through.
I mean, Mal is in heat, and is hiding in a cleaning cupboard when Vincent discovers him and gives him a help to get the edge of while waiting for his blockers to kick in. Mal is desperate and Ferraiuolo gets all of that across, and more in that cupboard and later, when they move to somewhere a little more comfy.
He gets across all of Mal's need to be a daddy, not just a baby sitter. He gets all of Vincent fear of telling Mal about his past, of why he is a father to Nikki, but infertile. He gets over all each man's reaction when the other says to them "So...?"
There was a lot of things that I did not see coming! Not saying what, cos spoilers, but they blew me away! And some I thought were coming but don't, so I'm pleased in a way that these things did NOT happen. They could have been bad for everyone involved.
It's dark when Mal tells Vincent about his past, made me cry. Come to think of it, I cry a lot with these books!
Because I am listening to these and not reading them, I'm not seeing the screen names written down, so I am unable to piece together clues from the names I hear with the blurbs for the next 3 books. I mean, I thought Vincent was xveridy not xVerity! I don't care who is next, just that I am able to get my grubby little mitts on it!
I loved this, and its gonna be hard for Scott and Ferraiuolo to top it!
5 stars for the book 5 stars for the narration 5 stars overall
I'm giving this a 3.5 rounded up to a 4. The good: Once the story got rolling, it totally held my attention & I binged the last 75% or so of it. There was a definite level of suspense and, beyond my liking of Mal & Vincent, the book succeeded in keeping me invested. I especially really want to know the other remaining Single Dads and other potential characters for the remaining books. I've already purchased the next audiobook b/c I need to know these characters better. (Plus Michael's narration is sure to be good, even if this almost entirely male cast stretches the limits of his character voices, he does an admirable job of keeping everyone distinct.) I admit that I had wanted to know Mal more when he was younger, as there was something about him in the original related series that piqued my interest, even if his presence was fairly fleeting. I was a teensy bit disappointed some time ago when I'd scanned ahead in the various related series to see if he would have his own book, but found that I wouldn't really get to see him again until he was middle-aged. I did like him as an older adult though - and also liked that he still had moments of youth and youthful uncertainty. So often, characters who are aged around 37-50+ in books seem almost TOO mature. There's a realism to people not always knowing what to do and say when faced with new experiences and new people in their lives, and for them also to enjoy the occasional moments of immaturity. On the side of why this isn't a 5 star or a heartily given 4 star for me...there was an excessive amount of purple prose, introspection & repetition of sentiments and certain aspects of background. The book probably could've had at least a 1/3 cut out of it, or a 1/3 taken up by additional different aspects of the characters' backgrounds that were hinted at, but not fleshed out in their dialogue - basically, it didn't need quite so much repetitive schmaltz. That's the case I've noticed with this series in general. There IS a decent amount of dialogue, thankfully - instead of the nearly all introspection that some books I've read have fall into. There is definite chemistry and communication between the characters. There's one tiny bit of the omega-verse rules I didn't quite understand in this one - but the bit I didn't quite get would be spoiler-ish to say. It wasn't a huge deal, just a little niggling thing I pondered along the way. But like I said, I did already get the next book and I'm well invested in everyone's stories. I'd still recommend this series.
I have been following this group of single dads and loving every minute of it. The messages between the five of them are hilarious and it’s been fun to watch each fall in love. This book begins with the wedding of single dad Laurence to the love of his life Alex, but the actual start of the book is with more of a bang.
Mal is an omega desperate to start a family of his own. At fifty his chances of conceiving are small but he’s going through IVF treatments with the hopes of a pregnancy. It’s complicated, but having so many treatments back to back means his heats are stronger and harder to control. Hence he’s in a broom closet with a vibrator at the wedding. Vincent is looking for the bathroom. What he discovers is an omega in need of help. Being a helpful guy, Vincent steps up and helps Mal. I mean, what’s an alpha to do when he sees an omega in need of a literal hand.
Vincent joins the single dads for a glitter bomb and despairs of ever seeing Mal again when Mal propositions him. Uh, okay. Never one to turn down an opportunity to connect with someone, Vincent takes Mal up on the offer. Little do they know that even after Mal has left the hotel room and taken his pumpkin home (ala Cinderella) that their paths will cross again and the stakes will be so much higher.
Ex-Veriti (Vincent) hasn’t told the single dads what he does for a living, so asking their advice is difficult. His move to Aurora is for work, but the possibility of building something with Mal holds appeal. His priority has to be his precocious five-year-old daughter Nicki. Vincent is also holding a secret close to his chest, not knowing how Mal will react. I have to admit his secret was a huge surprise for me. I don’t read many omega/alpha books and I’m always learning something new as each author creates their own worlds. I’m very much enjoying Ms. Scott’s world. There are several more books in the series and I’m looking forward to them as well. For each father’s happy ending, of course, but also because I’ll get to see Mal and Vincent again as they build a joyous life for themselves as a solid couple.
Michael Ferraiuolo is the perfect narrator for this series. He just hits every note and has distinct voices for each character. His delivery of the messages is always spot-on, making the book even funnier. So onward we go. I can’t wait for the next one.
The Solution is the third book in the Single Dads Support Group, and although it can be read as a standalone, it is much better to have read the first two books in the series. I also recommend reading Love Me, the first book in the Rutledge Brothers series, since Mal is first introduced in that book. It helps give context to Mal’s past and the horrors he experienced.
Vincent, also known as xVerity in his Single Dads Support Group chat, is used to being alone after his marriage ended in a disaster. Life is tough as a single father, but Vincent has found support and friendship with his online chat group. When Lawrence, one of the other chat group members, invites Vincent to his wedding, Vincent is looking forward to celebrating the happy moment with his friends as well as scoping out the city where he’ll be moving to for a new job. The last thing Vincent expects to find in Aurora is love, but that’s exactly what happens when he meets Mal. Mal is an older omega who’s experienced the ugly side of life. Moving forward has been hard for Mal, but he’s finally ready to be father and has taken the next steps to meet that goal. However, becoming pregnant is harder than Mal expected, and he’s quickly loosing hope. Together Vincent and Mal will have to work together to make their dreams come true and start the family they both desire.
I loved this book. Both Vincent and Mal were wonderfully complex characters that captured my heart. Each man had to overcome their own insecurities and fears while also learning how to trust the other. There relationship was sweet and beautiful with some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve read this month. The plot was intricate and interesting with enough drama to keep me on the edge of my seat.
Michael Ferraiuolo narrates the audiobook and does a spectacular job. Michael’s voice has so much range and flexibility. I love how he voice each character and makes them distinct and easy to tell apart. He brings the book to life with his performance. The energy he puts into the narration helps keep the book dynamic and not once was I bored with the narration. The audiobook production was well done and there were no glitches or errors.
We met Vincent (xVerity, the SDSG's fearless leader) and Mal (Alex and Gage's friend and sort of babysitter) in the first two books of the series. Vincent is about to move to Aurora for work when he meets Mal at Lawrence and Alex's wedding. Mal goes into an unexpected heat since he's undergoing an IVF treatment and Vincent helps him out and they hit it off and have a one night stand that turns into more when Vincent comes back to Aurora and they reconnect. What they didn't expect, was that Mal ends up in the same IVF clinical trial Vincent works at or how it could affect their burgeoning relationship.
Mal's story is connected to the His Command series and its truly heartbreaking. Now at 50, and after several years of therapy, and still suffering from nightmares and panic attacks at some triggering situations, he's determined to make his dream true and become a father. His age doesn't help, though, and after the last IVF round doesn't work, his doctor suggests the clinical trial as his last resort. Vincent's story is definitely different and I commend Ms. Scott for it. I definitely didn't see that coming and yet, it worked great all things considered. Mal and Vincent were hot and sweet together and just fit well with each other. I was glad there wasn't much angst where their relationship was concerned.
Nikki, Vincent's 6-year-old daughter, was adorable. Sassy and quirky and precocious for her age, she was just a breath of fresh air and I loved her. She stole every single scene she was in.
I felt that the secondary plotline of Vincent and Mal's relationship being uncovered by the Bioethics Doctor was underdeveloped. It was there and they mentioned it several times and then, in the end, nothing really came out of it after so much buildup. Other than that, The Solution was a good continuation to the story, sweet and steamy, and as before, I loved the SDSG's chat and in-person interactions. They were really fun and I'm looking forward to Harley and Knot's books.
I really liked the narration, even if I felt Mal sounded older than his 50 years, still, it was enjoyable and Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job bringing all the characters to life.

"Halfway across the country, he'd stepped into the wrong room and found everything that he'd been missing." ~Vincent
Older omega Mal met an unfortunate event. He unexpectedly went into heat and embarrassingly had to deal with it himself. Until the younger alpha Vincent discovered him in a closet and decided to relieve him of his situation.
One moment of indiscretion.
I loved Mal so much because he was fighting the world....the past, the present, his future. After everything that had happened, the only thing he wanted was to become a father. With age, and bad breaks, it is no wonder he was fighting so hard.
Vincent, Vincent. The man was a dream. I loved his role in Mal's life. He wasn't afraid to be himself when they were together, and he was determined to give Mal the one thing he wanted, even if it cost him the world.
This is the third book in the series and I promised myself to put it on my list to read and I am glad I did. [Now I jusst have to make time to read the other guys book after enjoying them and their interaction.] I won't lie, my friend Barb is probably rolling on the floor, laughing her a$$ of because she knows how I feel about Daddy kink, but I #letitgo, #letitgo and shuddered through those moments then got back to my enjoyment.
There are several moments inthe book that I wished were explained in depth, but getitng the general idea of what had happened did not lessen my enjoyment. It just leaves room for the author to expand as I feel readers are going to demand explanations.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author via LesCourt.
I can't get enough of the books in Piper Scott's world. I've loved all the books that take place in Aurora. The nice thing about the SDSG books is that they carry through from an older series, as the next generation, which is totally awesome. Not that everyone involved in the stories are from the younger generation, but they are all still interconnected.
Mal is at the end of his fertile years. He still wants to be a daddy though. He's spent years helping to take care of his friends' kids, and now he's helping with those kids' kids. He loves them all dearly, but as much as he loves them, he still wants his own. He's on another round of IVF, and hasn't had any luck, other than just having crazy heat cycles. At a wedding of his friends, he's had to hide in a storage closet to deal with his heat and paranoia.
Vincent has flown into Aurora so he can be at his friend Gwynn's wedding. They know each other through the Single Dad Support Group. When he's trying to find the bathroom, he walks into a storage closet and meets Mal. They have a glorious night together, but Mal leaves early in the morning, figuring that he'll never see Vincent again. Except he actually does.
I loved everything that went on in this book. I love the fact that the primary couple is older. Nothing wrong with younger characters, but every now and again, an older woman likes to see older characters too. I also love the whole take on Daddy that goes on here. It's not what you normally see, but it's a good one. I also like the issues with the alpha/omega dynamics that happens too. The book seems so timely to me, and really looks at things in an interesting way. I wish I could give this book so many more stars.
I have loved all of the books in this series so far (I've only listened to the 3 audiobooks and not read the remaining ones in the series yet), but The Solution is my absolute favorite – for now. 😊
I think that Michael Ferraiuolo outdid himself on this one. His smooth and dulcet tone of voice was perfect for the characters. I always enjoy the way he "reads" the chat portion of these books. (The Single Dad Support Group is an online group.) His unique voices for each character really match their personalities. (I can't wait to hear him do Not My Problem's book.)
This story had a big surprise in it and it was unique as far as any other MPREG book I've ever read. It would be too much of a spoiler to say anything more. The book had my emotions all over the place. It's pretty normal for me to shed tears when I'm reading a book but it doesn't happen as much with an audiobook (I'm not sure why). Michael Ferraiuolo is one of the few audiobook performers who has moved me to tears (in a good way).
I really felt the connection between Mal and Vincent. Both of them have things in their past they'd rather keep hidden but they have to be honest with each other for their relationship to have a chance. It was also great to visit with the other members of the Single Dad Support Group. I am truly looking forward to listening to more books in this series as they become available.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me by Gay Romance Reviews but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
I am so incredibly in love with this Single Dad Support Group series! These incredible fathers and their significant others have completely captured my heart. I always think the next book can’t possibly be better than the last, and somehow it continues to happen. I have to say, for me, it’s pretty hard to beat Gage’s book, but The Solution definitely gives it a run for its money. This book dealt with so many issues, ranging from age and fertility to past trauma and societal bias. At the heart of it all though, is a fabulous love story full of second chances and unconditional love. Having dealt with infertility myself, Mal’s struggles definitely tugged at my heart strings. Infertility is absolutely devastating for those who have to endure it. It’s a vicious circle of boundless hope and crushing disappointment. Poor Mal had to deal with that on top of his past trauma and the resulting debilitating panic attacks and nightmares. Vincent was dealing with his own trauma, and just really needed someone to love him for who he truly was. These two men not only accepted each other’s differences, but celebrated them… and in doing so, were able to help one another heal. If this book doesn’t touch your heart, then you need to check to be sure it’s not made of stone. I really can’t recommend this book highly enough, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.
*I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.
