Meghan Ciana Doidge writes tales of true love conquering all, even death. Though sometimes the love is elusive, the vampires and werewolves come out to play in the daylight, and bloody mayhem ensues.
I love the series, and really loved this addition. Expanding on the other characters bringing the forward in the story. I can't wait for the next installment.
This novel definitely gave clarity to the vast unspoken unknowns from book 8. Reading this clears up the rushed language that was missing causing slight confusion. This statement is based off the overkill explanations of cupcake flavors but vagueness to portions of the storyline. I will be patiently awaiting book 9, please no more cliffhangers. Definitely not a fan of those, especially since all the other books have been stand alone. Keep up the good work Meghan! 😊
A set of short stories featuring 3 separate secondary characters in the Adept world that falls between books 8 and 9 of the Dowser series. This is not for those unfamiliar with the series or who haven't read book 8, at least. Good additional information to the story arc- maybe not fully necessary but needed more than wanted information to help drive the story into book 9. Recommend only for fans who are already reading the series.
Nice change of perspective and a good short story. I like how it feels almost like a side story but it’s actually still central. A great development of other characters.
A wonderful novella. I'm not sure whose story i enjoyed more, if I had to pick, I'd say Mory. She has her one liners that usually make me totally chuckle. It was an interesting prospective from the misfits and Rochelle. Still left me wanting more. I want to know Jades fate, along with the rest of the adepts. I seriously can't wait for book nine in the series to come out. 5/5 cross posting to My Reading Reality and GoodReads.
I give this story 10 stars! Such an excellent well written story. Jade has been compromised! Help must come from a new source to help the witches and the city. Enter Mory, Jasmine and the oracle, Rochelle. There are others involved but the main players are these three. Benjamin plays a big part and the turtle is their secret weapon. Lots of action, mystery and a cliffhanger ending! You must read this awesome book!
Very character detailed. Hard to choose your favorite
I enjoyed the companionships established in this series. At first you like the main character then slowly you get attached to other characters with the reading of additional books in the series. The writer makes you feel the character as she gives you peeks into their world. I have recommended this series to many friends. And with the addition of recipes! and trinkets and crochet! Very intriguing. Great location also.
This book was everything I wanted and didn't realize I needed in a "misfits" book. It might be marketed as a novella, but it definitely felt like a full length novel to me.
We get to see inside the heads of even more characters! In this book, we get inside Mory, Rochelle, and Jasmine's heads and see what happened after the horrible, awful, cringeworthy ending of the previous book. Sure, they are ill informed so you gotta guess at a bunch of stuff, but it was still really great to have a bit of a departure from the normal Jade storytelling.
Starting with Mory, we get to know even more about the necromancer, her magic, her turtle, and how she ended up where she did at the end of the previous book. There's even more than that, but it was all just great and filled with knitting. Next, we dive into Rochelle's messed up world. Yes, we've been there before, but it was good to see that things completely have not changed for her. It's a big burden, but she carries it well. Last, we spend some time in the newly turned Jasmine's head. She has probably got the most issues, but really steps up for the misfit team in this one. I absolutely cannot wait to see what this random group of paranormals can pull off and how we move this plot to completion by the end of the next book!
There's power in numbers, instead of assuming the three weak Jade should have allowed them to fall in line with the warriors.
Mory strength is pulled when others see her as weak and unworthy. She pulls from the strength of the necklace Jade made her and the past of the pain from her brother Rusty and Jade Step Sister Sienna.
Rochelle thought the beast within was vanquished once Jade turned her Grandmothers broach into wedding bands for Beau and herself. When the threat of losing her adoptive parents, love of her life and unborn child brings forth the blood sorcerer magic to keep them alive and survive.
Jasmine daughter of Kett finds her strength through friends rather than prey. After fighting her battle of feeding on her charges the Kett has asked her to protect. She finds her passsion with Benjamin Garrick who Kett tried to keep the two apart finding his blood is just as potent as her fathers.
Can't wait for 9th series to find out how the three new warriors came to save Jade, Kandy, Warner and Kett who thought the three weren't strong enough to stand along side them in the front line to take on the unknown elves.
I have to wait until December 4th for the "9th" book? That's a painful thought. The story's shift from book 8 to 8.5 (this one) is well done and allows some of the fledglings to step up. I like that. The various types of magic and how it's used is interesting, as well. Ed is a humorous addition. Seriously, a dead turtle named Ed. I thoroughly enjoy this author's creativity.
If you haven't read book 1 and like books about witches, vampires, werewolves, etc., this is a series that engaged me throughput all...15?...books, including the different companion series. Enjoy!
Mory, the wielder’s necromancer Rochelle, the wielder’s oracle Jasmine, the wielder’s vampire BFF’s annoying child
Graveyards - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visions - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ And Other Things That Byte - ⭐️⭐️
Mory and Rochelle continue to develop as characters. Shockingly enough I actually like Rochelle now. After reading more of this series, I actually think Beau was the problem - too overprotective. She can take care of herself. Jasmine still sucks. Fortunately her story was the shortest. I fire you can only write so much about bloodlust, heartbeats, and prey.
Nice bridge story between the ending of book 8 and what will hopefully be a quick resolution to that problem, led by the B-Team in book 9.
I liked this more than I thought I would. I enjoyed getting to see what the other characters thought about Jade and how much they cared for her. The stories felt exciting. I am a sucker for a pregnancy storyline so I did wonder if I should read the Oracle series (I only read the Dowser series, and none of the others). However, I don't love Rochelle; she's a bit blah. Jasmine is interesting and I would have like to read more of her and Benjamin. Mory grew on me over the series, but I did skim some of her side-quest in this one. It was a good read, and made me exciting to read the final book in this series. I haven't been exciting to read these books in a while.
The powder is comprised! Repeat, the doesn't is comprised! As fantastical as that seems Jade and her troop of Adepts have been injured and taken hostage by elven kind. Not the lovelies of "middle earth", no, these are nasties bent on expanding their territory and Vancouver looks goid. In this particular book, the fledglings are running the sow now that the Adepts are compromised. Jasmine, Rochelle and Mory are all sharing their point of views now that Jade is out of action. Jasmine is without Kett's (and his blood), Rochelle gets a vision from a unforseen source.
I enjoyed seeing different points of view from the Dowser world, and I especially liked hearing Mory's POV since that was a first. However, BEau annoyed me just as much as he always has, Jasmine was inconsistent, and the twist in the end with Benjamin was frustrating.
I think this is an awesome set up for future books from different points of view after Jade's story wraps up, but otherwise this seemed a little like "filler." I LOVE Mory though; looking forward the most to her arc.
Ok, while this wasn't one of my fave installments of the series, I did enjoy getting some in-depth info on the upcoming battle. It was good to learn a little more about the "fledglings" and discover they're not totally worthless. It was good to learn that they've been trained well by their elders and superiors. Looking forward to the battle, which I'm sure will prove to an action packed, page turner. I just have this dreadful feeling though that not all of the warriors make it out alive.
I loved this book. I took a break from this series when the elves managed to take control of Jade. It upset me. So, I guess I needed a break from the series for a while. I am glad that I came back to it though, because I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the last book and see how the series ends. You should read the Dowser series, it is quite entertaining and is comprised of a cast of fierce female characters.
A series of short clips to help set up the final story of Jade's series.
This is a series of events that take place after Jade is captured by the elves told from the viewpoint of Mory, Rochelle, and Jasmine as they get ready to battle. On to the final book in Jade's story, although I hope we are given updates on her life after the series, the author continues books in this universe. On to the next book.
The author made a choice to write this book as separate "backstory" to the main plotline running through the series. I think it's an inspired choice and it drew me in SO completely, I surrendered and might have cried "uncle" out loud at some point. Giving the power of narration to three of the secondary characters was (again) an amazing gamble that paid off in spades! Thank you MCD!!
3 short stories, each told from the perspective of a different supporting character, that cover the aftermath of Jade's bachelorette party. Just enough to whet your appetite, and leaves you wanting more. Unfortunately, the stories aren't long enough to fully develop the characters and are somewhat uneven in quality.
Well done and looking to see more with these character tied into the storylines and sound. Most had been one of my favorite "minor" characters and i hope we get to see more off her and the fledgling gang helping jade and it definitely brings to light just how much jade brings to those around her. I look forward to more.
Avocado....I'll never look at one again & not snicker thinking about Jasmine. I needed that little detail. I'm so surprised with each book I read & how the story keeps twisting & turning...joining with other stories but yet being it's own. Loved having the 3 different perspectives. Can't wait to see what happens next for the fledgling's.
It was awesome to learn more about some of the newer characters and see them interact with each other. I wasn’t ready for it to end (I never am). Another book well written by Meghan.
Three short stories that tie together Dowser 8 & 9, and I loved every minute! Each story from a different character, perspective, and voice. Each character dealing with epic challenges. Fast-paced, gripping, and full of suspense. Can't wait to start Dowser 9!
Absolutely loved this addition to the series! This one is a must read!! She really shined the light out on Mory, Rochelle, and Jasmine! Can’t pick a favorite character in this series already, and this book just added more! 5 stars.
A look from the point of view from the supporting cast
I love this story from Mory & Jasmine’s point of view. Rochelle also gets another chance to have her voice speak. There are so many great characters in this universe that have their own stories, it’s great to hear them.
In general, this series is 4 stars for me, but these short stories felt like cut scenes from the previous book that are bonus reads for the next book with a bit of character creation and future stories development.
I loved getting the points of view from some of our other paranormal ladies in this one! And getting the behind the scenes of what is happening while Jade is away is perfect. Can't wait to find out what happens in #9!
I wouldn’t say this is necessary to read before the next book (because I finished that books before finishing this one lol) but it did help fill in some gaps and I think it makes things that happen in the following book make more sense
