Grizzly Killer #5

Grizzly Killer: Where The Buffalo Dance

Rate this book
The fifth book in the action-packed, best-selling Grizzly Killer series. After five years of living in the wild and dangerous Rocky Mountains, Zach Connors is concerned his Indian family will not be prepared for the eventual settling of the west. They have lived isolated in the wilderness their whole lives and have no idea how many white men will eventually come into their lands. Zach has seen the Indian tribes pushed from their homes in Kentucky and Tennessee because they would not learn to live in the white man’s world. He wants to ensure his family and friends will survive in a world he is sure will change. Known as Grizzly Killer throughout the west, Zach takes his Indian family to St. Louis so they can see for themselves the numbers of white men that are pushing the settlements further west with the passing of each year. It is a long and dangerous trip as they pass through the lands of the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Pawnee as well as the land Where the Buffalo Dance as they follow the Platte River east. They find the dangers of the civilized world although different can be just as deadly as the dangers of the mighty Rocky Mountains.

I’ve enjoyed the adventure in the Rockies with Zach and his family and many friends and hate saying goodbye.
Two separate worlds, both surviving as best they could .

Lane Warenski – Grizzly Killer Bk 5 – Where the Buffalo Dance – Reviewed 7-7-21 – Read 7/4/21

Running Wolf Injured – Luna to the rescue getting Raven Wing and Grizzly Killer.

The Indians gave Zach Conners the name Grizzly Killer. His name and his bear claw necklace are widely known across the mountains and even further east. If they don’t know him personally, they surely know him when they spot the necklace, he always wears it.

As we have previously learned, an extremely large silver-tipped grizzly bear killed Zach Conner’s father. He spent his first winter alone with just he and his two best friends, Jimbo, the giant dog that had been abandoned, and his mule, Ol’ Red. Later he found Running Wolf with a broken leg, and the Snake Indians trying extremely hard to kill him. Since then, the pair have been like brothers in every way except by blood. His family has expanded to include Running Wolf, his wife Raven Wing, their son Grey Wolf, Zach’s wives Sunflower, and Shining Star, and his daughter, Morning Star, mostly called Star from his second wife Shining Star.

The one thing that never changes in the life of the mountain people or Indians is the need for food. When the winter hits and the animals migrate south, they have to rely on the dried foods or the tasty pemmican. So, the need for taking fresh meat is something that has to be done whenever the weather permits. On this day Running Wolf was working a couple of pack horses and took them to an area where he had seen signs of elk. When he crossed a small herd, he didn’t hesitate to shoot, but the lead pack horse was not expecting the roar of the shot and it took off running with the lead rope wrapped around his wrist. As the horse ran it jerked him from the saddle and dragged him, trying to rid himself from the weight behind him. It was over two hundred yards before he got the rope off his wrist and could roll to a stop. He couldn’t move his arm and pain shot through him every time he tried. Remembering the pain from his broken leg years ago, he figured this would be painful too. He knew that he needed to get home to get help. Mounting, he nearly passed out from the pain, but suddenly Luna, his spirit wolf, appeared, then turned and took off. Before he got to the big meadow, he knew he would not be able to go much further, looking up though he saw Luna and Jimbo, and thankfully behind them came the family.

Join Grizzly Killer and his family and friends as they make a trip to St. Louis to finally keep a promise made years ago…

What did I like? Previously I had read the first book, “The Making of a Mountain Man,” and certainly enjoyed it. Later I received book eight, “White Snake,” book nine, “The Trading Post,” book ten, “Spirit Talkers,” book eleven, “Spirits In the Wind,” and for some reason I missed book twelve, but not long ago I finished book thirteen, “Sacred Ground.” Well, I have been telling myself that I wanted to catch up on the series and decided that this weekend I would do it. As everyone knows I am part Native American, I have a special love for them, no matter which tribe. I grew up with the Jemez Indians in New Mexico and have a unique bond with them. This series touches my heart in many ways, not only from the fact that a white man has been accepted within the network of the tribes but because of the values that he passes on to them. They saved him in the past, but he continues to save as many as he can, in the unique way that only Grizzly Killer can do, with friendship and love.

What will you like? If you have read any of the books in this series, you know that they are exciting, interesting, engaging, and informative. When I say informative, I refer to the fact that the storyline is fictitious, but the places are real, and Lane describes them to a tee. I have been to several of the places that he uses in his books, and they are breathtaking. I also know that the beliefs of the people are real regarding our caring for our lands and should be shared with others. The characters that he describes come close to some of the ones that my grandfather told me about and it makes you wonder about the things that happen during the early 1800s. It’s too bad that the values have not carried forward to all that live in the present day, especially with the things that are happening around us now. I am off to book six, “Smoke on the Water.”

Incredible legend!

After reading this the 5th book of the grizzly killer series I can't be silent any longer. AUTHOR Lane Warenski has created a legendary character with nearly equal cast of supporting characters both men and women, both white and native americans and both scenic, unforgettable nature landscapes and amazing animal friends and foe. Where the buffalo dance may be the best of the 5 and reminds me of the award winning Dances with Wolves. The author weaves the many different cultures into a very believable tale of survival, adventure and yes love. Love of family, nature and life. This 5th book continues the growth, maturing and roles of each characters. Each books begs us to believe the characters could have been real and hoping that they were. The story of the Grizzler Killer would be killer at the box office if there was film company daring enough to do it justice. Only problem, is there an actor that can capture the essence of the Grizzly Killer since neither John Wayne or Clint Walker are available.

Loved the trip from the mountains back to St. Louis, Missouri. The adventure was met by Indian tribes, trail weary travelers and thieves of one sort or other. In the city itself, danger was met, racism flourished, and Zach Connors handled it all. Loved the wedding in the small church, gardens of plenty and the learning of life in the Midwest. The Indian Women had made the trip and ate squash, potatoes and eggs for the first time. I found it an interesting storyline and loved every moment of the rough trail traveled east and back home. Thanks to the author for great writing.

Wow amazing series!

What a great story to add to this series! My grandfather was born and raised not far from Saint Louis though not nearly as early as this story is set. The stories told around the kitchen table and in front of the fireplace often told of the massive mules and Belgium mares his father and great grandfather raised. I loved this book just like the rest of this series!

Review of "Where The Buffalo Dance" by John Lietzke

This book number five in the Grizzly Killer series. I gave book five stars because I thought the story was well written and I liked it. This story is about Zach Conners, mountain man, and his family including his Indian fiend and his dog, Jimbo.

Thoroughly impressed and sad that I’ve completed the series

I stumbled upon Lane’s Grizzly Killer series in Kindle Unlimited as I was reading what Mountain Man books that I could find. I thoroughly enjoyed all five books in the series and hope that the future will bring more Zack Conners to life.
Thank you Lane for the enjoyable hours spent reading this series.

Wonderful series!!

Lane R Warenski has a real talent for writing exciting, action filled books. Heartwarming and informative, this one tells how Grizzly Killer goes back to civilization on a visit to show his two Indian wives and their friends what being a *white man" means. Good guys and bad guys abound.

I rate the books I read

By how they keep my interest level up and if there are any glaring oddities or mistakes that break or dampen my interest. So far, even with GLARING grammatical, continuity and spelling errors I can't put this series down. I should have been a mountain man (I won't tell if you won't. I could pass as a man...maybe....).

Another "Killer" story

This is, I believe is his best story. The way he writes makes you want to go back in time and become a mountain man yourself. If you've read any of his other stories, to ahead and buy this one, I know you won't be disappointed.

Poor Shining Star

Sunflower manages to monopolize Zack's time and attention. Gave him his first
born, yet is always pushed aside. Sad. Doesn't have a real chance to develop a deep connection and memories like Zack and Sunflower have. She deserves better

Just like Louis L’Amour and Terry C. Johnston, Lane Warenski takes reader's back in time to the early frontier days with a very realistic feeling of actually being there! In addition to one of the most enjoyable frontier tales, Warenski includes a wealth of technologically and historically accurate information that would have made high school history books highly enjoyable and memorable! Demonstrating the benefits of mutually acceptance of the differences in others, Warenski creates characters and environments readers can't help but envy and love. And there are numerous natural and man-made challenges throughout that add lots of enjoyable entertainment.

Exceptional read

Zach Connor, known as Grizzly Killer, takes his family and a few Indian friends to St. Louis. The natives learn that the white man will never stop moving west and that both good and evil men exist everywhere. Benny sees his family is well and prospering, and Zach closes his chapter about Emma. Wonderful read.
