Ghosts never forget, rarely forgive, and frequently refuse to move on. While Deanna is helping her brother settle in, her friends relationships give her reasons to worry and celebrate—depending on the couple. Work, however, never stops. The case that falls in her lap at the Hundred Willows Plantation is truly disturbing. The ghosts have become restless—attacking tourists and tour guides. While the family denies there is anything haunting the antebellum mansion, they can’t hide the truth from Deanna. The plantations dark history repeats itself. Specific scenes playing out over and over. That isn’t the worst of it. It’s when the supernatural residents try to interact with humans that injury and death become a recurring theme for the living. The only way to change the pattern is for Deanna to put herself in the path of anger, attack, and Death (wearing high heels) itself.
A loyal Chicago girl who loves deep dish pizza, the Cubs, and the Lake, CC Dragon is fascinated by mysteries, sleuthing, as well as the supernatural. The southern connection comes in because her sister moved down there and the material was too fun and entertaining not to set a series there. CC loves creating characters, especially amateur sleuths who solve crimes in their spare time. A coffee and chocolate addict who loves fast cars, she’s still looking for a hero who likes to cook and clean…so she can write more!
Awesome. A wonderful plot just a shame it ended halfway through the story. Now we have to get the next book to find out what happens. Wonderful characters that live in your mind as you follow the story. Her brother has come to live at the mansion but is proving to be a tough nut to crack. Scared of his abilities and determined to try and block out his talent thus making him more of a liability rather than an asset. Plus he hates the way she keeps pushing him to confront his fears. However when a bruised and battered tour guide appears, she wants to help in any way she can. The tour guide is from a plantation that has become more active and the activity is now hurting people. However the owner is more than reluctant to let her help. Time loops, satanic activity and an active poltergeist are just some of the things she spots when she goes on a tour. Plus Ivy (having just gotten engaged) wants her engagement party there. Add in an arson that nearly costs Greg and his monks their lives, a curse laid down by two women and an attack on the tour guide that results in the owner facing a probable future in a wheelchair. What next?
I did not read this series in order and feel perhaps I would have been more emotionally involved if I had. This can be read as a stand alone but you might be a bit lost at the beginning.
Deanna Oscar is a paranormal investigator and spirit helper. There is not much money in it. fortunately she inherited a mansion as well as some money. She shares her life and home with good friends who seem to understand her. Her brother has recently moved in, not really by choice, and is discovering he has some special talents of his own. Deanna is trying to protect him and allow him to learn his gifts at an acceptable pace. Frankie feels she is s/mothering him. When a friend of Ivy and Brody shows up with a major ghostly problem, de wants to help. The trouble is she also wants to protect Frankie and the person she needs to help doesn't want her interference. Is that because he is being manipulated by something otherworldly?
This is a series unlike any other I have found. It deals with difficult topics, in both (or more) dimensions. Paranormal, historical, political and personal.
I love reading the Deanna Oscar series. It's quite entertaining to see what chaos De, Paul, Ivy, Brody, Mary Lou, Greg, Gunnar, Matt, the angels, and now Frankie end up embroiled in.
So excited that Brody proposed to Ivy, I can't wait for the wedding. Frankie has some unique powers and Deanna's have significantly grown.
The plantation was almost freaky with the way the ghosts are in constant loops of memories. There's demons in the barn where Greg and some monks are almost killed. And the centuries old poltergeist that has been feeding on the owner's family for all that time?
Plus both the siblings who own it are sensitive to the paranormal.
The book was full of laughter, mystery, suspense and drama. That final battle about gave a heart attack but the resolution leaves plenty of hope and potential for what's to come. I can't wait for book nine to see more. These characters are like friends so it's always nice to catch up with them.
I don’t read a ton of cozy mysteries, but the premise, title and cover drew me into this one. In my opinion, this can be read as a standalone, but reading the other books would make it easier to understand from the get-go.
That being said, I really enjoyed the characters in this novel. Each played a significant role, and for a large cast, I was thoroughly impressed that each felt unique and distinguishable. I enjoyed Deanna’s personality, very much and she was fun to read.
I love the plot of this novel, and the mystery is solid. This is a page turner and I was able to read through it in one sitting.
I highly suggest this to fans of cozy mysteries! I am definitely going to read the rest of the series in order, because I want more of this world.
*I received this book as part of a blog. All opinions are my own.*
Something felt off about this one. I just didn’t get into it like the others. It felt rushed, and there were a lot of editing errors. I didn’t feel the fun of the characters, and there was nothing new exploring powers. Every time things got dangerous, she’d wake up after the fact and remember that angels took care of it, or some such. And the story only partly ends. Definitely some good ideas, though. And light reading. I don’t think I’ll give up on the series just yet, just in case.
Deanna and the gang are back and things are a little tense. Deannas brother Frankie is there to be trained but is having issues taking instruction from his sister. Relationship fun abounds and there is a heck of a haunting for them to explore. An exciting addition to the series.
