Like Selina suggests on the cover, if you want to know how her wedding to Batman went, check out Batman #50. Though, I expect if you do care, you’ve already read that issue and know, and if you haven’t then you probably don’t. Not that it matters anyway as it doesn’t really play any part in Catwoman’s new solo series!

And, as much of a fan as I am of Joelle Jones, her Catwoman #1 didn’t blow my hair back like I’d hoped. As usual with anything drawn by Jones, it looks terrific - Selina’s never looked better and, conversely, the big bad looks awesomely grotesque - also thanks in part to Laura Allred’s beautiful colours.

But there’s not much story here and what little there is isn’t grabbing me. Copycat (geddit?) Catwomen abound and Selina’s gotta… do something. Which will probably involve the monstrous villain. Hmm…

It’s only one issue so there’s plenty of time for improvement but, given how good her Dark Horse series Lady Killer was and what the character just went through, Joelle Jones’ Catwoman #1 was a disappointing and lacklustre start.

A wonderful balm for the injuries inflicted by King. I'm sorry for Jones she has to stick with that dumb drama, but at least she's exploring it in a great way. Here's hoping she gets to bring Selina back to Gotham and to the love and happiness she deserves. Repeat after me: a failed marriage should not break up the strongest couple in DC-verse!

The main storyline starts with a bang, I can't wait to watch it unfolds and to cheer Selina on while she kicks female Voldemort's ass ♥

The art is very good and if this weren’t coming off the back of a predictable lack of courage (in writing not in the character) in the main Batman book, I’d be more interested in the story set up here. As is, I can barely care.

This was just okay. Best thing was the art, but some of the panel layouts were a little jumbled and confusing. Now sure if I’ll continue this or not.

I was pretty lucky that I grew up with a comic book shop owner who 'curated' my experience. Thus I was into some stuff from the get go that we now look back and call 'classic' (Preacher, Invisibles, Transmetropolitan, and many, many more).

Seven years ago, a close friend of mine opened a comic book shop. Many times, he has flipped titles he thought I would like. So, I am not totally out of touch. Which is how I know Remender, Brisson, Williamson, Aaron, Spencer and others.

That said, I like to stay current. Which doesn't mean I couldn't fill a monthly pull list with Waid, Bendis and Ennis, and be fine. Still, you know.....

So, I have been sharing my comic reads with the Goodreads community, and I am thinking when someone has a certain buzz, then I need to check them out sooner rather than later.

Which seems to be the case with Joelle Jones. I do love her art. I have been with Tom King's Batman run since he started, and Jones's art has been a great part of that experience (and while we are here, y'know, I liked Batman #50. Yes, the New York Times spoiled it. Yes, it ended with more of a whimper than a bang. But, hey I generally liked it. Damn you DC for screwing it up and not at least giving us a brief moment.

Jones is fairly new to the Big 2 comic community, but her work for Dark Horse is well received. So, I figured it was time to get on board. Besides, it's a favorite DC character of mine.

Reviewers gave a lukewarm response to #1, and unfortunately, I might too. Still, it felt like a pretty splashy and quick intro, which is the kind of thing I expect from Marvel. This being DC, we usually get as much substance as style.

Plus, that style is great. Jones is an amazing artist. The art is fantastic (Let me make mention of Laura Allred's colors), but this one was pretty forgettable. Though I am going to stick with it to see it properly take off and see where it goes.

I didn't read Batman #50 and I don't really care for the wedding. I do have the graphic novel for this (I think the first volume) and I hope it gets better. The plot was okay. The artwork I didn't like at all.

Catwoman #1 by Joelle Jones came out last week and amid the chaos and wounded feelings of comicdom, this new adventure begins. Selina, just off the wedding that didn't come to pass, is in her own recovery period from the love and life she walked away from. Trying to keep a low profile, she is drawn back into the limelight when an impostor takes the Catwoman garb and begins to do more than just steal. She kills and she kills cops.

It's been a week since Selina fled Gotham and the Bat she left at the altar. She is now in Villa Hermosa and laying low. Gambling in the casinos and trying to occupy her time and mind. But when another Catwoman begins her crime spree, the police start to hunt down Selina Kyle. She has no choice but to put aside her own pain and don the Cat suit once more. There's a copycat out there and its up to Selina to stop her before more people die.

Is it fair? Seriously is it even fair? Joelle Jones writes and draws and basically can do everything in the comic book world but run the printers. Which by the way, she probably can. I came across Joelle Jones in her own comic, Lady Killer, which if you have never read it; you have to. You really really do. No she has Selina Kyle? Catwoman? Expect big things comic book world. Big beautiful, creative and mind blowing things.

If this first issue is any indicator than yes, we are in for a wild and terrific run!

I have been a fan of Selina Kyle for as long as I remember, and as soon as I saw one of my favorite writers/artists was leading a new solo series, needless to say, I was pretty excited.

After the let down of Batman #50, this comic did stunning at showing how those actions had effects on her. It set off with a great story, ending on a cliffhanger which made me excited to see what's to come next.

I've been kept up with Selina's story through Batman, her other comics or just curious what's all the hype is about for this darling feline, this is the place to start for fans new and old.

Looks like the Cat needs to find her identity again, without the Bat. I'm sure that's what this series will be about. I'll try a couple more issues and see where it goes.

Not really a fan of this so far, nothing bad about it, just kinda feels like your typical Catwoman solo story to me and for all it's Bat/Cat wedding hype riding it barely has anything to do with that. Probably just gonna wait and see if I hear good things about later issues and then if I do I'll try it again in trade.

Probably the victim of Batman #50, but I just don't care.

I certainly won't hold it against anyone that does like it, but it didn't grab me. We've seen this story plenty of times before and there wasn't anything here to hint at a reason this latest version will be different, fresh.

So...meh. I'll pass.

I am so excited that Catwoman is getting her own series. Yes, I know it’s a mini-series, and yes I know it all started out because of the Wedding hype, but I’m still really happy with it. Who knows, if the sales are good enough maybe Selena Kyle will get her own series for good. That’d be amazing.
Anyway, moving on. I’d strongly suggest you read the Batman #50 issue before reading this. Otherwise you’re totally going to have that one spoiled. Though a lot of news stations have spoiled it anyway…so grain of salt and all that.
This was a pretty decent issue on the whole. A great start too. I feel like we’ve done this sort of plot before, but on a much smaller scale. Seeing it at these crazy proportions could get very interesting. I hope it holds up in the long run.
I would have liked to see a bit for how she felt about the Wedding issue. I don’t feel like I have a good grasp on that yet. Yes, I have a pretty decent idea of what happened and why, but I’m also not one hundred percent certain that my assumption is correct.

Clearly the build up to #50 was just a way to squeeze more money from fans. There is nothing special here: the art and story are so-so. This turn of events turned my excitement for a new Catwoman series to huuuge disappointment instantly and the blurb to start this entire new series is very misleading. DC, Tom King, and Jones will not be getting another dime from me.

Pretty great

As the cover said I picked this up after reading Batman 50, though not as in your face as I wanted you CAN see how the outcome of Batman 50 affects Selina.
Along with the beautiful art and intriguing story this is a great start for Catwomans next arc.

This was a really cool start to Selina going off to find herself after Issue #50 of Batman. It's mostly a set up issue for where the story will go for at least the first volume, but there's one emotionally charged scene towards the end that was great.

I don't know so much about the story because I didn't read the previous comics but all I can say about this comic is that it has it's own unique art style!

Was recommended this book at my local comic store, and I enjoyed it. I have not really been a fan of Catwoman but this new story line might change my mind on continuing the series.

The art in this is incredibly consistent and appealing. These books are worth getting just to flip through and study. Joëlle Jones is doing a great job with this so far, and the writing is actually a tasteful palate cleanser from the OP Catwoman of Tom King's current Batman arc. Just try to forget how inane she was in Batman 50...and how overpowered she was before that, and start fresh. This Catwoman's dive into self-destruction is a bit more nuanced than Judd Winnick's or Ann Nocenti's "Catwoman post-break-up" arcs. It a subdued story with an interesting new villain that promises to be a rich standalone series.
