Gee, I guess I like Seiji now? This day will go down in history. I’m just saying. Not that I’m implying my opinion is important enough for its shift to be recorded in history or whatever. Just—shhh.

TBH, I might still be inclined to hate him for being so good and yet ruining it with his attitude (no, I don’t mean his prickliness or cutting words cause those are things I usually stan, I mean his lack of respect for anyone and anything who is not Jesse), BUT—

Awww okay I might feel for him just a little.

His steely determination is admirable and something I can relate to. Besides, I can see how, beneath that nearly (and I say nearly because we’ve all seen Aiden the the king of manipulation delightfully slip between the cracks of his armour) impenetrable turtle shell, he’s sad and dissatisfied and always feeling empty.

And yes, it does make sense that he would not only dismiss everyone but also treat them all as dirt—I mean, beating everyone with the same stick is the most common, most predictable mistake of humans as a general species, and he must’ve endured frequent bullying for his talent and I doubt his horrible dad took time to teach him respect, understanding, or compassion—I doubt the guy himself knew any of these things.

I rather love how, despite having everyone stand against him, he cares naught for their opinion and actually thrives under the pressure. Seriously, the no nonsense attitude is probably my favourite to see in a character and it was refreshing to see his Jerk of the Year behaviour be justified for once. All he needs to do is be more respectful like how he was towards Harvard in this issue, and I’ll love him!

There it is. The speed. The determination. The sheer talent that is not like anyone else. They’re beginning to understand. You can see it in their faces. You can see it in the way they’ve stopped talking. The way they’re focused on the match. With total concentration—forgetting even to cheer—until everyone in the hall is just watching in silence. They’re beginning to understand just how good Seiji really is.

But anyways, I appreciate how Pacat focuses on a different character in each issue, and the depth and additional info on Seiji plus seeing Harvard shine as a leader and also handle Aiden the wild fox was precious—yes, read it LotR style. I just need more of Nicholas’s usual messy cluelessness marching on to invade Seiji’s personal space and isolation. What’s more adorable?

Okay, I’m going to be honest with you (as always. ;-P) and this issue just wasn’t all that awesome for me. I mean yes, I get it, it was necessary to understand what it means that Seji is no.2 in the fencing ranking but there happened nothing except of his match against Harvard and that just wasn’t enough for me. >_<

I need more substance than that! I mean why was there so little of Nicholas? Why were there no interactions between other students? And what is this thing between Aiden and Harvard!?
I need answers! And I CRAVE longer issues!!! *lol*

I will say it again and again until it eventually happens: LONGER ISSUESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS PLEASEEEEEE!!! <333

Also, what's with that synopsis?! The text didn't fit the issue. *sighs*

No one understands it yet. But they will.

In what is basically a Seiji-centric issue, we get a deeper look at this highly skilled and largely disliked fencing prodigy.

It is quite an epic little moment, as anti-social freshman Seiji effortlessly plays and defeats fencing team captain and senior student Harvard.

I love the turning of the tide as everyone begins to see just how special Seiji truly is.

They’re beginning to understand...just how good Seiji is.

This was probably my favourite addition to the series thus far.

"(...) Seiji sees something in Nicholas that will change his opinion forever."

Yeah, he sees how gay he is for him.

Were they trying to bait me with the synopsis? Because they sure did.

and the saga progresses...

honestly, i just feel for seiji... he seems so brooding and lonely and sad.

i mean he's definitely not friendly but i have a feeling he's sad inside.

also, I'm starting to get a little bored....

it's just the same thing happening over and over again. hopefully things get a little more exciting

Blessed the day I decided to buy all the comics, because only with those Cliffhangers... and the wait kills me to read the next one, although I don't want them to end either 😭

Me siento tracionada. En este capítulo siento que la sinopsis me engañó. Fence #8 me pareció aburrido.

4.5 stars, review is for the whole of volume 1, as I had read the whole thing before I knew it. And now I have to wait for more. *sigh, story of my friggin life, waiting for a book, LOL*

Really enjoyed this, much more than I expected. This was basically my first experience with a graphic novel, though I did read comics aeons ago when I was young. Also, I'm not counting skimming through my son's Naruto or Dragonball Z books. I wasn't exactly interested in those.

This hooked me fast, and after this first episode, I went ahead and bought them all (thank goodness the first volume was done!) and it felt like I finished them in the blink of an eye. No real relationships yet, but oh the groundwork is laid for things to be mighty complicated in several directions later.

Same for angst though that has the potential to be pretty damn explosive as well. And I'm not going to lie, the pretty graphics totally pulled me in as well. I've always been visual but it impacted the story more than I expected it to. Awesome way to finish out 2018 reading, trying something new, though I expected nothing less than awesome from C.S. Pacat.

Now I wait for Volume 2. :)

This series is just getting better and better. I liked the insight we got into Seiji and how his talent can be isolating and how people see him. I hope some day Nick will have a balance in how he sees him. Nick is still hilariously cute in this.

Also I'm feeling more and more between Aiden and Harvard...I'll be disappointed if nothing happens between these two. Also I love Harvard, he was a gracious loser to Seiji and was kind and he's so sweet.

Nicholas: “I don’t need a makeover I have amazing fashion sense.”
Bobby: “wearing black jeans and a black tank top all the time?”
N: “I wear other things”
B: “like what?”
N: “sometimes I wear a black t-shirt”

This kid

that issue was way too short for my liking.
i need all of them, right now.
pls and thank you.

"His talent is isolating. It sets him apart. It probably has his whole life."

Getting this much exposition on Seiji was just what I needed.

As coach says it's a little hard to really understand just how good Seiji is if you don't really understand Fencing but once you do... man, he's good. He has passion, discipline, talent and the years of training to be as good as he is right now he just needs to relax a bit more, enjoy it more, and he'll be unstoppable.

I continue to admire the coach and just how good at spotting each of her players qualities she is. And she really knows how to bring out the best in each of them.

Still great

Welp, I inhaled that like air. Harvard's still a beautiful and kind angel and Seiji's a thorny rose, all is well

WHY ARE THE DESCRIPTIONS MISSLEADING??

But damn, this was nothing if not a personal chapter all about Senji. It felt short (like they always do internally sobs) and not much happened, so I had to drag it down a star, but the knowledge and art were spot on.

can't. wait. for. next. one. slowly. dying. that. freaking. cliffhanger. though.

Prêt!

I really shouldn't read two of these back to back.....It makes the second one go by much too fast!

Seiji and Harvard face-off. Nicholas keeps taunting Seiji.

Great as always!
