The stories seem to be written in English and translated into Spanish, as opposed to being initially written in Spanish. Some of the sentence structure just seems very English and unnatural in Spanish. The vocab lists at the end of each story are useful, but could have been more thorough. I found they had all the very easy words and nouns listed and none of the more complicated verbs, that a beginner definitely wouldn’t know. I could always get the gist of what the story was saying, but if I’m going to add a word to my daily vocabulary, I want to know for sure what it means. All in all, cute stories, there were two “scary” thriller stories for chapters 7 & 8, so I guess you could skip those if you’re letting a younger learner use this book, but they’re really not that bad. The reading comprehension questions at the end of each story had some typos in the answers, which isn’t a big deal since I could confirm with my husband that I read the story correctly 😆
I started using books like this one when it was suggested by a linguist as a way to supplement language study. Very helpful in that respect. Off to find another!
Such a fun and engaging collection of stories. Great for both beginners and intermediate students. I highly recommend to students looking to improve their Spanish comprehension.
