Chesapeake Bluffs: A Casey Shaw Novel

Rate this book
Tournament fishing is just fun right? Or, could it be a reason for murder? A cheating angler who Casey knows all too well from his past surfaces to steal prize after prize in some of the east coast's richest fishing tournaments. It's up to Casey and crew to stop him. Meanwhile, Casey wants to expand his resort operations and his not-soon-enough to be ex wife wants to fight him every step of the way. With Dawn, Cindy and Carlos' help he's keeping things on track, at least for now.

Casey's getting used to the hormone swings of Dawn, his pregnant girlfriend and business partner, and he's slowly getting over his intense fear of crowds with her help. It's a good thing, because their Chesapeake Bayside Resort & Marina™ is becoming increasingly popular, and now they will be expanding. If you're Casey and you have more big projects on the horizon, and a baby on the way what do you do? You take a 'working vacation' before everything all hits at once. You go pick up your new yacht in Hilton Head, and take a week off with your girlfriend, visiting interesting ports along the east coast while relaxing and getting ideas for your new project. What could go wrong? Plenty.

But wait, there's more, because with Casey, there always seems to be more. Add in his new billionaire pal Eric Clarke who doesn't like taking no for an answer in business. He is in love with Chesapeake Bayside Resort and would like to have it for himself.  Then there's Sandy Morgan, an eccentric best-selling author live-aboard who has moved into the marina for the summer. He brought with him two twenty-something-year-old 'writing muses/fishing mates.' Everyone is curious about their real job descriptions, but are too afraid to ask. Sandy has no 'conversation filter,' and plenty of volume. His muses decide they like skinny dipping in Casey's new yacht's hot tub. Timing is not their strong point; they decided it in the middle of Bayside's marina and during Casey's sunset cocktail party.

Then going from one extreme to the other there's a quiet and mysterious friend of Conrad and Rikki's, Colt Toffler. He remembers everything he sees and hears, even when he's 'had a few.' Or, as he prefers to say, when he's 'Operationally Incapacitated.' He only gives glimpses of his past because most of it is classified. Mysterious with a dry sense of humor, Colt's favorite way to get from northern Virginia to Bayside is in his 47' Fountain lightning, a 115 mph water rocket.

Now's the time for Casey and his new pals to discover why the Chesapeake and the DelMarVa coast is so well known for its fishing. But they need to keep their eyes peeled for those tournament cheating cretins who have revenge on their minds, and their favorite target is Dawn.

Last but not least, Murph is back. Casey's ex-partner, Dawn's ex-fiance, and the unknowing father of her baby. Yes, THAT Murph. Lindsey is now with him and they have a plan to shake down Casey. That'll be awkward because they'll be fishing against him and his new friends in many of the tournaments.

It's a good thing that Casey now owns several bars because he will need a drink before this book is over. Make that a few drinks. Fortunately he knows how to mix a great Bloody Maria hangover cure.

Hi! Glad you took the time to read about me, though my Coastal Adventure Series is really much more interesting. But hey, click my "Follow" button and see what kind of trouble I get into. It beats reading the newspaper! (I try to stay out of those these days...)

I was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and escaped in Y2K, 40 years and 1.1 million new neighbors later. I hate crowds, and by then the lines at the boat ramps on the weekends were hell... Anyway, in my early twenties I crewed on sportfishing boats. I started flying when I was old enough to see over the instrument panel and got my license at 16. I've logged time in over two dozen types of aircraft. I got my start as a real estate investor in my latter 20's. I've owned retail stores and was even a small-town mayor once. Why? I'm still asking myself that question now, several decades later.

When I moved to Virginia, I fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore (VA & MD), as well as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and that's why my books are set in this area. I write books because it's fun. I create characters that I enjoy 'spending time with' because I write every day.

You're still here? If I haven't put you to sleep or chased you away by now, please feel free to click the button next to the "Follow" one and send me a "Friend" request. Like Belushi said about grabbing a beer in the opening scene of Animal House: "Don't cost nuthin'!"

Captivating

Another Mid-Atlantic Adventure that’s well written, captivating, poignant, and loving. I can only say that I have truly enjoyed Casey, Dawn, and the rest of the usual characters and will anxiously await their next adventure.
