Chapter One: Carrie

Rate this book
Between the pages of Karl Hood’s latest book is death. Not just for the characters inside but for almost all of those who read it as well. In a surprise promo, he gave away thousands of copies to his readers. It was the sequel to his best seller, which ironically, was a zombie novel. He also gave them much more than promised. Because even though Karl Hood’s fans died during or after reading his books, their victims came back. And they weren’t posting reviews.

Emergency room nurse Carrie Hernandez was amazed at the lengths her roommate, Renee Johnson, would go to get her hands on Karl Hood’s newest book. She was even more shocked when Renee turned violent and tried to kill her only hours after the start of reading it. When Renee died unexplainably from the infection, Carrie could only wonder when she would become symptomatic. Realizing she was somehow immune, she did what she could to help the others who were ill. Soon it was obvious they weren’t the real danger to the world. That came after.

I first met Veronica at a local comic con several years ago. She’s extremely friendly and very passionate about her writing. I saw her again at the recent Comicpalooza event in Houston (our booths were across from each other!) and she shared some information on one of her latest projects “Between The Pages”, part of a short story Zombie series. Since I crave Zombie stories, I actually purchased all three short stories and just recently finished the first one: Chapter One: Carrie. It was a great story! It’s an easy read and is packed with the chewing, crunching, ripping and growling that all Zombie fans relish in their Z-stories! Veronica does a great job building up the tension and keeps it going right up to the end. If you like Zombie stories, especially from ground zero, when the you-know-what hits the fan, then you’ll love this story. I’m glad I have all 3 books now!
