Kings of Rittenhouse – A Shameless Kings Prequel is book .5 in the Kings of Rittenhouse series by Maya Hughes.
In this short little introduction to this series we meet the boys of the Rittenhouse Kings, the championship ice hockey team of Rittenhouse Prep School. It is told in the alternating point of views of Declan McAvoy and Makenna Halstead who are both featured in book one, Shameless King. We get a look into both of their lives and there is a short excerpt at the end of the book. These two do not get along at all and their story is an enemies to lovers story. Even at this young age, I can feel the underlying attraction between them!
We also get a good look at Emmett and Avery who are featured in book three, Ruthless King. They are high school sweethearts. Emmett sees their relationship as forever but it seems as though Avery has other ideas. Their story has a sad ending in this novella so in Ruthless King, they will get their second chance.
This was a perfect way to be introduced to these guys and definitely left me wanting to get to know them each better in their individual stories. This series is definitely one I plan to continue with. I can’t wait to better get to know the Kings of Rittenhouse!

This was a quick novella introducing readers to the Kings of Rittenhouse series. We get to meet the Kings - Declan, Heath, Emmett, Ford, and Colm as well as several other key players and siblings. The novella gives readers some back story on their lives (though the novella focuses on and is told only from Declan and Makenna's POV's) and sets the stage for future books. It looks like some of the tropes we'll see in this series are enemies to lovers, forbidden/teacher and student, second chance, and best friend's little sister. Honestly, after reading this novella, it's Avery and Emmett that intrigued me (and broke my heart) the most. It's clear there is a lot more than meets the eye to their story. I'm looking forward to meeting these Kings (and Queens).

I simply adored this introduction to the kings. Funny thing is I didn't know it was available till I finished the full story. I still enjoyed it and it excited me to see what Will happen to Emmett.

This is a prequel to the Kings of Rittenhouse series and took a little over an hour to read, so pretty short.
This story introduces the reader to the 5 main guys of the series, who at this point are part of a championship hockey team at Rittenhouse Prep High School.
~ Declan McAvoy - leading scorer. Out to prove that even though his NHL pro father didn’t want to have anything to do with him, with lots of hard work he can make it to the NHL in spite of his dick of a father
~ Emmett Cunning - defenseman. In love with his high school girlfriend Avery, and ready to propose
~ Heath Taylor - left wing. Will drive 10 hours to get a certain type of beer. Is currently involved with a student teacher at his school.
~ Ford Carlisle - goalie. Scholarship kid from the wrong side of the tracks. Headed to Boston college. Colm’s little sister has a HUGE crush on him.
~ Colm Frost. Team captain, right wing. Lost his parents in a car crash six months ago
This prequel is told from the dual perspectives of Declan and Makenna Halstead (who will be the couple in book 1, Shameless King). These two have a little history and Makenna definitely dislikes Declan. However, there’s an underlying attraction that seems to be pretty evident.
The other couple that takes up a bit of space is Emmett and Avery (they will also have their own book). They’ve been a couple for 3 years and Emmett has proposed several times and Avery has turned him down each time (off page). I think Emmett’s main reason for proposing though, is because he’s going off to college and Avery will still be in high school and he wants that commitment between them. However, just as Emmett is ready to propose (again), Avery betrays him. So, more to come on them in a different book.
I thought this was a good introduction to the series and I’m definitely interested in reading more.

I read this novella to satisfy my curiosity about the reason behind Declan's apology to MaKenna in book one, but mostly to know what went wrong between Emmett and Avery, and it left me hungry for more, my heart broke for them both, I can't wait to read their story.
This is really a promising series, the author worked hard on building her protagonists with interesting backgrounds and great character traits. Not the manwhoring or almost no experience for females, these sexual stereotypes are wrong and pathetic for both sides.
I hope authors would stop with those new adult clichés, about the experiences and roles women and men play in society and relationships in this kind of stories.
And please stop with the all women population throwing themselves at men famous or not, like you are saying all women are stupid and clingy.
If you are going to give us stupid population, do it on both sides, our heroines are special and sexy, why aren't they surrendered by admirers, and have great experience with the other sex like the male lead!
All have been said with good intentions, I really want to enjoy this series, considering I'm already intrigued by all the kings.

So this is a pretty good set up for the series. Not sure what all is going to go down. It all seems rather angsty. This is my first by this author, and I will definitely be reading more from her.

Kings of Rittenhouse is a great introduction to a new sports world. We're given a small glimpse in the life of 5 high school hockey players. Declan, Heath, Emmett, Colm and Ford are all seniors and preparing for life after high school. Going to college and working hard to make their goal come true, to play in the NHL.
Of course it wouldn't be high school without drama. And this prequel is filled with that and more. Some unnecessary, but what are you going to do?
Kings of Rittenhouse lured me in only for me to want more. I need freaking answers. I only hope that ending was a misunderstanding because WTF?! I can't wait to know more about these hockey Kings and what makes them tick. And first up, Declan and Mak. Let's go!

A nice introduction to the characters. Enjoyed the writing, (a bit messy- but I have a feeling its because of the amount of other characters “issues” and I found the main characters background interesting enough. Like the whole “nothing is at it seems”- part.
But that’s it. No sparks. No “I need to read this or I will die”.
It’s one of those stories I sadly will forget about in a week, so that also means I probably won’t be getting my hands on the series.

A quick read with a confusing start to these characters
This novella was like a long prologue of the series. It introduces to kinda the future couples specially the first couple but I am still confused who they are, not the best introduction but certainly intriguing to go on. Didn’t know it was about hockey players which YES I’m always here for hockey romances. Something they nailed is that Declan and Mackenna definitely hate each other. Which I think in enemies to lovers I feel like it always fail because I don’t feel the hate. Will see, excited to dive into the Maya Hughes universe.

It’s 11:53 PM and I’m writing my last review of 2019 lol Since Fulton U was one of my favorite series this year, I decided that I wanted to end 2019 and start 2020 reading the Kings of Rittenhouse series!
I really liked this prequel because we got to know all the characters and their struggles a little. My favorite one so far is Makenna. She’s a troubled girl who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and doesn’t think she deserves happiness. I really felt her pain and I can’t wait to see her getting the love and attention she deserves.
I was so excited for Emmett and Avery and thought they were gonna be the softest couple of the group, but now I’m scared to see what the future holds for them. I think I already know why Avery did what she did, but it still hurts.
All in all, I think this is gonna be a great series and I’m excited to start 2020 with these characters.

Maya Hughes created a perfect new and addicting sports world for me and I know for a fact this series will be one of those that will take over my life, I just know it. All of the Kings already stole a piece of my heart and we barely got a taste of them. So I know that with every book Maya pops out in this series, I'm gonna fall a little (probably a lot) more for each and every one of these guys.
At this point I'm already dying and praying for more. And of course the one I'm most excited for is the one who will probably come last because anticipation is key and it sure will be the death of me. I'm so so very curious about Emmett and Avery, there is so much more to what went on and I'm dying to know it all...

This is a free prequel to Declan and Mak's story and I'm glad I decided to jump in and read it before diving into book 1 of this series. KINGS OF RITTENHOUSE is set in high school and gives us a glimpse of the life our main protagonists are going through to prepare you for book 1 (which jumps ahead quite a few years to college).I'm not usually the biggest fan of high school angst and all the drama associated with it but Declan and Mak are going through their own difficult struggles at home and those affect how they interact with others. Everyone is keeping secrets, right? Declan is trying to do his best to make it to the NHL one day and Mak needs to live out her brother's life goals. My heart went out to both of them. The big issue that happens and causes the rift between them? That had me rolling my eyes but... it's high school. I get it. Over the top reactions to stupid things, even when it makes little sense and it's unnecessary drama. Nevertheless, I really liked the two main characters and this one was the perfect preamble to book 1.
That being said, I also really like quite a few other Kings that we got to meet in this prequel and I'm salivating for Emmett and Avery's story. Lots of potential in this new series!

not to be that person mas as semelhanças com off campus são demais. As personagens, os futuros plots etc etc. Tbh não houve nenhuma personagem que me fizesse ficar mais interessada na sua história, os povs também são uma espécie de enemies to lovers ligeiramente infantis e não entendo a cena da autora fazer uma serie de livros chamados "Kings of Rittenhouse" sendo que esse é o nome da equipa da escola secundária deles, e os livros "principais" passam-se na faculdade...
Also em 50 páginas desta prequel houve mais drama que nas séries inteiras de off campus e briar u, o que é um bocado escusado.
Se foi prometedor? nada. Se eu vou (tentar) ler os livros? claro.
