She was a Light Elf Warrior, and I, a Dark Elf Princess, but we weren’t so different, were we?
From two opposing kingdoms, our people have been fighting for thousands of years. First, with the will of the gods, but after much bloodshed and loss, they fought for revenge.
I was taught that the Light Elves were heartless killers, but it was hard to believe that someone with such a benevolent spirit could be as heartless as they say.
That’s probably why I ended up falling in love.
I should’ve known better though. I should’ve known the consequences of falling for her kind.
The night I thought that we were finally going to be together, I found myself alone at the bottom the ocean with more power than any elf could bear.
I had the power to destroy kings…and maybe even end a war.

This was a nice little fantasy novella. I enjoyed it much more than I expected. The story was gripping and quickly caught my attention. I liked the fantasy world with dark and light elves, and all sorts of other fantasy creatures. My only issue is the book jumps a lot. The main character is 10 when it starts and 18 at the end. If this would have been full book length, more time could have been taken and it would feel less start and stop. Luckily, the pacing didn’t bother my enjoyment and there was some good action and even a little romance. This is the first in a series so it does end on a cliffhanger. I’m excited to see where the story will go so I will absolutely be reading the next. This was a nice little Kindle Unlimited find and I will now have to read more by Hawkins.
This story was pretty bare bones and moved pretty quickly, but I think that's normal for a story that's only 100 pages and it was a nice little story to just blow through in about an hour. It's your average 'two people on opposite sides of a war who are also in love' story but they're also cute elf lesbians so that definitely makes it more enjoyable for me personally. I'll probably continue the series when the next part comes out but I think it would be nice if it was a little bit longer.
I'm not sure I'd describe this as a book. Or even a novella. It kinda felt like the author wrote the first quarter of a book and decided to publish it. It feels unfinished and so far there are no sequels.
But what I've read so far is good and it definitely has potential, so I'll keep an eye on this series in the future
Once the dark elves and the light elves were one race, but hundreds of years later, war divides them, and pulling other races, such as dwarves, ents, and giant eagles, into the war with them to take sides. Princess Calen, the youngest daughter of the dark elf king has always felt she hasn’t measured up to her elder brothers. But the one bright spot in her life is visiting the dungeons to see Takana Telerie, the champion of the light elves. Even under the grunge and grime of the dungeons, Calen thought Takana was beautiful. Together they had a friendship, that prompted Calen to defy her parents and smuggle the keys into the dungeon to free Takana. Through the years, they kept in touch sending messages through Takana’s magical birds. Takana insists that Calen is tied to a legendary prophecy about a woman with both dark and light within her destined to bring the two races back together again.
This is marketed as LGBT, and the relationship between Calen and Takana is a beautiful thing, full of magic as Takana conjures butterflies and birds to see the smile on Calen’s face. And Calen, who always thought of herself as not measuring up, proves how heroic she can be to save Takana. While I didn’t really latch on to Calen, our main heroine, who felt like she wasn’t entirely defined. It felt like her character was in flux, which it was since it views her at multiple times in her life, spending time following her when she’s a child, and then 13, and then at 16. I think her personality wasn’t colorful enough for my tastes to make her stand out. Takana was relatively undefined, too. She was beautiful to Calen, I didn’t really go for the shorn hair on one side, and courageous on a battlefield, though she didn’t seem all that warlike or strong at all in the dungeons. I loved Calen’s two brothers, Seri and Nerul. Seri was kind, and doted on his sister and brother, willing to stand up to the parents for them and supported his sister. And Nerul felt like he was fleshed out with his emotional baggage of a lost loved one and having to fill the shoes of his father as heir, and I loved that he did love his sister, though he was reserved. (So often when people write reserved characters, it means they don’t show any emotion and just become flat and one-dimensional. I’m glad that’s not the case in this story.) Besides, the romance, and time spent at the palace getting to know Calen’s family over the years, a large chunk of the book is also spent on the battlefield as Calen finally is deemed skilled enough to march with the army. Since I don’t feel attached to Calen or Takana, I don’t really feel the urge to continue the story, even with it ending on a cliffhanger, to lead into the next section of the serial. Speaking of which, it’s been 3 years since this section was published and there’s no second book. So, beware, cliffhanger and presumably no second book.
I want to thank DESTINY HAWKINS once again for another great book and for sending this one for me to read this was one that once you get started it is hard to put away. This can also be read in a quick reading if you are looking for something that will keep you interested and can be read in less than an hour or two maybe depending on how fast you read.
This is a great beginning to a series. Light elves and dark elves I mean all the creatures. Seriously it has freaking Ents in it! Loving the storytelling and the characters are fantastic. Two elves of opposing sides fall in love and looks like they fulfill a prophecy. I mean magic and dragons and elves what more do you want in a fantasy book. I’m excited to see where this leads.
When writing short stories you give up a lot of time you normally would for worldbuilding and character development. Despite some beautiful descriptions and likeable enough characters this fantasy romance story is lacking both.
It's also somewhat tropey. Light princess meets dark princess, different worlds, opposites attract. I think if I was more of a fantasy fan I'd gel with this a little more. But ultimately it felt a little thin.
She was a Light Elf Warrior, and I, a Dark Elf Princess, but we weren’t so different, were we? From two opposing kingdoms, our people have been fighting for thousands of years. Wow; another outstanding read from this amazing author. I loved this story so much. Amazing world building in this one. I adore the characters created and can't wait to read more about them. Wonderful story and plot line. Recommend reading.

Her parents were the Queen and King of the the Dark Elves and the strongest in the Shadowstone Kingdom. As the youngest in the Sunstar family she was expected to fight any challenges.her brothers, Nerul and Seri, her older brothers were the kingdoms’s best warriors. Calen was not. Can hated the thought of killing and her heart was filled with kindness. She befriends a white elf prisoner who talks to her about a prophecy.
This book was amazing. It captured my attention from the beginning and I read it in one sitting. It is the first in a fantasy series. The characters were interesting and personable. The narrative did an excellent job of describing the scenery and enhancing the character’s personalities. The storyline is woven expertly together providing twist, surprises, betrayals, love, action, fear and humanity. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you wanting more. This is an excellent start to a fantasy series, one I intend to follow.

White Hearts: The Prophecy by Destiny Hawkins Five Stars
White Heart is the first book in the Blackened Souls series by Destiny Hawkins. This is officially my new favorite book by Ms. Hawkins. I love the concept she uses of light and dark elves. The the two main characters, are amazingly strong even when they meet as children, and the connection is amazing. The mythical creatures are brought to life with beautiful detail. I hope she is working on the next book in this series, because I want to know what happens next. I highly recommend this book and author.
Why do I have to wait for a sequel? Why can't a book just have a beginning, middle, and end? If any author's going to write a story that they know's going to have a sequel; just write the longer version. That being said, this was a decent effort. Elves fighting each other just because... Miss Hawkins has a grasp of the story she wants to tell about the Dark Elves but the Light Elves are an enigma. The prophecy is vague until the end of the book. It was a quick read. So...on to the next one when it arrives.
This story is about a civilization of elfs divided in half. In one side we have the Dark elfs and the other the Light ones. Each has it's own rulers and we follow the story of the princess of the Dark Lands and how she met the princess of the Light Land in a new version of the Romeo and Juliet story. I loved the atmosphere of the story, all the characters and Destiny Hawkins writing style. I just had a difficult time to see our heroine as a female, but you can probably see why when you read the story. The ending leaves us definitly wanting to know what will come next.
This book was really good! Loved the story plot and light/dark elves. There are several other interesting creatures or being you meet in passing like Ogres and Wargs! War is prevalent in this world and there's a prophecy that needs to be fulfilled. Romance ensues as well as tragedy. I was rooting for Seri and then Calen's relationship. Twist and turns abound throughout. I can't wait to read book 2 to see where the story goes!
This book pleasantly surprised me. The author is new to me, but this book was enjoyable. It is clearly a set-up for a full series, but the main story elements were well thought out and well plotted. I can't say I loved it, as it wasn't long enough to really get into it, but the potential to love the series is definitely there. I will be certainly be looking out for sequels. A short but worth-your-while read.
Quick read that I wish was more than a short story. The battle between light and dark, with a Romeo and Juliet type romance tossed in. Fast paced and once you start you can’t stop reading to find out what happens next. I’m kind undecided if I like how it jumped so much from age to age, leaving so much that could have been said. Yes I know it’s a short story but didn’t stop me from wanting more.
Very good start to the series. It was full of action and full of angst. I was a little bit lost with the timeline but at the end it didn't really impacted my reading experience. I really enjoyed story set up in this very interesting world and the way characters were developed. It really picked up my interest in this book. I’m excited to see where the plot will go as it ended with cliffhanger and the prologue promised some more dramatic events.
A fantasy story lined with realistic contemporary components. Black against white, but both bleed red blood when stung. A story of rival elves and among them are 2 elves who fall in love with each other. To make the prediction come true, sacrifices must be made. Highly recommended for readers of fantasy books hoping for a part 2......

White Heart is book one in The Blackened Souls series and I loved it! This action packed story captured my interest and pulled me in. A light Elf warrior and a dark Elf princess from two opposing Kingdoms heading towards war. This author has created an amazing world filled with interesting characters. White Heart ends in a cliffhanger so I anxiously await the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
It was very interesting learning how the Light Elves and the Dark Elves came to be. It did explain why they were at constant war with each other. Watching how the two children became friends, even though they were born enemies, and how the friendship grew through the years to become love for each other, does help build the tension for the ending. And the ending will have its own surprises for you! A very well written story! Enjoy!
Adventure with a twist of bias. Two enemies from birth, one light and one dark. Both drawn to the other, both breaking years of hatred and bloodshed. Loved this book! Action packed, with male and female warriors. Would like to have more dialog. Waiting for the next story in the series and The Prophecy. (short story)

White Heart is the first book in the series that offers the reader light & dark elves. It is a short read but grabs the attention of the reader from the beginning.
