Dawn Oliver - daughter of theatre royalty, talented in her own right, and, according to the internet... a complete and total fraud.
All she wants is a fair chance to prove herself - no nepotism, no social media campaigns, no sponsors. Just pure talent, which she has in spades, if she can just get someone to believe in her.
The way Patrick Bell does.
Straightforward, self-assured, and exactly the kind of energy Dawn needs, if he can get past his own demons. He's good with life as it is - he's managing, with no expectation of anything beyond a casual connection.
A chance meeting brings about an unexpected spark of chemistry... leading to a bond neither of them seems to be able to get away from.
I absolutely love the first book in this series and was so excited to see that Cora's daughter got her own book! Dawn is an actress and is trying her best to ignore what the media says about her and just do her best in the current production she is working for. She runs into Patrick when researching for a role and the two cannot stop thinking about each other. I really loved their chemistry and how both Patrick and Dawn had past harm that was preventing one another to truly let the other in. Dawn doesn't want Patrick to be ruined by the media and Patrick is ashamed of what had happened in his past. Dawn really struggles being taken seriously, especially as a Black woman who has been taken advantage of and then deemed "difficult to work with." I really loved their romance and how they worked through what they were going through together and actually communicated with one another. This was another great romance fro Christina C Jones!
I was not excited about Dawn's story. I just wasn't that interested in her character to want to see how she progressed. Oh, how wrong I was! Inevitable Addiction was my favorite book in the series. I listened to this book in one day. Dawn and Patrick's attraction was annoyingly cute and I absolutely loved it! They were so adorable as a couple. The development of their relationship was believable and relatable. I love that the story line wasn't predictable and it took us on a not too much drama free journey. The Inevitable series is officially my favorite series!
Inevitable Addiction was so damn good! When I started listening to this series, Kora and Tariq were my faves but, Dawn and Patrick came in and just snatched the crown as my favorite couple. I absolutely LOVED these two and I loved this book. 🥰🥰🥰 Great job CCJ!
Inevitable Addiction is a novella in the Inevitable series and it follows the daughter of the heroine from book 1!
Dawn is both an actress and the daughter of theatre royalty, her mom’s story is book 1 in the series (Inevitable Conclusions). She’s been getting heat from the media claiming she isn’t worthy of her career and has no talent of her own (besides being her parents daughter). The story starts with her attending a grief support group, doing research for her new role, when she meets Patrick.
Patrick is a furniture builder who is handling his own loss and grief, he lost his parents and sisters a year ago. Patrick and Dawn have an instant connection and end up having a one night stand. Which of course leads to more! CCJ audios are always so well done and easy to get pulled into the stories. I will say I always want a little bit more with the endings of CCJ reads but that’s a minor thing for sure. I actually wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this novella at first but I’m so glad I got to it because I really enjoyed it! This is my 2nd fav in the series after book 2!
This was so good 😩😩 Dawn is now further into her theatre career and the life of young, rich, and famous celebrity has been eating her up. As she is preparing for a new role...a challenging one in hopes of proving she belongs beyond the accolades of her family, she meets Patrick. Patrick owns a furniture store where he builds custom furniture and by industry standards is a "regular" man. They seem to be drawn together by loss, that is somewhat unclear for Dawn. I love the way that they unknowingly became each other's peace. Dawn was Patrick's home away from his heart wrenching past, she lifted his spirits and helped him create new memories. Patrick was Dawn's home from the ugly, fickle industry she wanted so badly to be accepted in. Patrick kept her grounded and she needed to know that she could say "fk those people," which was his real azz advice. They both had some demons to overcome, and while it got a little messy it was the perfect amount of conflict to keep the story interesting. I am a greedy reader and sometimes I want ALL the things...like the characters' whole damn future, but I feel like this story closed out their love perfectly. Both of them opening up even more to each other. ❤️
CCJ this series was so good 😩😩 Girl why yo backlog got a 100 books in it and I know I'm missing out on nothing but goodness uugh.
Dawn and Patrick’s story was one that I didn’t know I needed. She didn’t really do anything for me when her mothers story was told in book 1 but I really enjoyed hers. Oh to be young and in love. It was such a cute story. Tan had me worried for a minute because she gave me snake vibes. I’m glad I was wrong. It was a great ending to an amazing series.
I enjoyed Dawn and Patrick the banter between the two didn’t know I needed it. I didn’t like Tan she was weird and didn’t seem to hold her friend accountable. I wish we got more in depth of Patrick healing process
3.5 - I enjoyed the romance between Dawn and Patrick, but at times it did feel a bit rushed. Certain plot points were built up a lot but then it seemed like they were dealt with too easily. But overall I liked Christina C. Jones’ writing and the chemistry between the characters.
I didn’t think I wanted a novella about Dawn (the daughter of the heroine from Inevitable Conclusions), but I was wrong! Dawn and Patrick were perfect for each other!!
These two meet when Dawn attends a grief support group as research for a role she’s cast in. Somehow, Patrick picks up on her needing someone, and they have a one night stand that turns into MORE.
I liked seeing behind the scenes of Dawn preparing for her theater role, seeing how the media and publicity has been affecting her and her need to succeed outside of her mother’s shadow. She met Patrick just when she needed to. He needed her also, still reeling from the loss of close family members. Their journey together was raw and authentic.
I also loved seeing Kora’s daughter, Serenity!!! This author weaves her books together so well that it feels like a family reunion when you see other characters.
5 stars for this whole series! Highly recommend!
TROPES: novella; famous actress heroine; one night stand; OWN voices/BIPOC rep (H/h and author are black); hero with traumatic past
TRIGGER WARNINGS: mentions of loss and grief of loved ones
OMG this book was short and sweet. I genuinely enjoyed the “Inevitable” series. Getting a beautiful take on Dawn & Patrick was just what I needed for this novella.
The spice level was a 4. The plot was good.
Both characters had growth and development and the story was addictive.
Now I need to double back and check to see if there’s anybody else that’s looking for love in this deck of books.
Loved, loved, loved Dawn and Patrick's story. Patrick's backstory almost took me out, though. I can't even imagine. And Dawn, on the surface, seemed like the worst person for him. But Dawn is deeper than that. These two were exactly what the other needed.
Happy to see Kora and Tariq in this one. And loved meeting Miss Serenity. I spent probably 70% of the book side-eyeing Tanise, but we were good by the end of the book. I'm glad Myesha got what she deserved, and despite Dawn dispensing a little justice to Steven, I so wanted Patrick to touch him up - cause he was begging for it.
Such a good story. Took me through all the emotions. CCJ claims it's a novella, but it definitely didn't feel like one. I wasn't even thinking about a story for Dawn, but I'm so happy CCJ wrote one.
This was pretty good. I think I’m partial to the first two especially the second installation. I’m not sure that there was a lot of emotion involved in this one as the other ones and maybe because Dawn and Patrick were so young, but we know CCJ gives us brief moments in the lives of her characters and perhaps we only scratched the surface of the layer they were in at the time. Patrick definitely could’ve been fleshed some more because he was dealing with something so heavy and traumatic, but it was a good read.
So full disclosure.. I didn't want to read this book because I didn't care about Dawn's story and only read it because it's part of the serious. But damn I'm glad I did because I loved it!
Dawn Oliver, wanting to be seen for her talents and not the mistakes she made as a young adult.
Patrick Bell, self assured with good energy and a believing spirit. Dealing with grief and trying to heal from a tragic accident is learning to move past his mistakes and live in the him of today.
A chance encounter put these two in each other path and it was exactly what they both need at this exact moment. Patrick was there for Dawn, showing her exactly how amazing she is and that she can show the world her talents. Dawn gave Patrick the room to be himself and be true to who he is. This was very sweet and I loved their connections so the way Patrick was there for Dawn during a rough time in her life .
I didn't realize I wanted to read a book about Dawn until Christina announced that it was a thing and then it felt like I couldn't WAIT to read it.
Before I get into the book, I just want to throw a little bit of appreciation at Christina for these book covers! I know they say you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but we all do it. We see a pretty book and are drawn to it. Christina has the BEST romance book covers out. I swear every time I see them I'm just like YES! Those are the characters I see in my head. And I love how she never shows the cover actors full face on the covers so while you get an IDEA of what the characters look like, you can still play around with things in her your head. LOVE THEM.
Now back to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed Inevitable Addition. It takes place a little bit after Inevitable Conclusions which is the 1st book in this series about Kora and Tariq, Dawn's mother and stepfather. In the first book, we leave off with Dawn on a high note. Shes just finished SLAYING a role in her mother's debut production as a producer, she is a social media fav and things are just looking up for her. However, the grass is most certainly NOT greener on this side of the fence.
In Inevitable Addiction we find Dawn struggling with negative media attention after having been fired from a previous production, having to deal with pettiness and jealousy from her costars on her current production and fighting tooth and nail to remain professional and level headed about everything so that she doesn't risk the potential for any future productions. All of these pressures and more lead us to a Dawn who doubts herself at every turn, is kind of a recluse and isn't all the confident as someone as talented and dedicated as she is, should be. And then we have Patrick...
Patrick is the complete opposite of what Dawn is used to. He has no association with the "industry" and zero interest in it, which seems to be exactly what Dawn needs. Someone fun and removed from all the drama. Chocolate skin, dread locs and swag for DAYS, Patrick kind of waltzes into Dawn's life and becomes not only an addiction for her but a sort of savior.
While there was a lot of angst and drama in this book, the self-doubt, and confusion that comes with being young and trying to find and get to know your self, this book was really fun to read. I enjoyed the banter and conversations between the characters. I liked reading about them getting to know one another even though the things they were doing were so mundane and "normal" like painting or watching tv, eating in or just talking. It all just felt so authentic and relatable.
It's never hard with a CCJ book to wholeheartedly and enthusiastically say, if you haven't read this book READ IT. If you haven't read the first two, what are you reading this review for?! Go and read those ASAP.
it took me a minute to get into Patrick's and Dawn's story. So much so I ended up re-reading Inevitable Conclusion - Tariq and Kora's book. By doing that it reminded me how much i loved this series so I revisited Inevitable Addiction hoping I would fall in love with Pat and Dawn. That didn't quite happen unfortunately. I'm never a fan of stories centered around early 20 somethings. Dawn is 23 in this book. And she acts like a 23 year old. Patrick is slightly older at 27 and he's been through some shit. He's more mature than Dawn but he's not perfect. He has his own set of issues. As for Dawn, I didn't really care for her in the previous books and that hasn't changed. I liked Patrick even though he was a dumb ass too. I guess two dumb asses belong together .It was great seeing characters from previous books like Tariq and Kora. Donovan and Kayla. This story was just okay for me. It happens.
After being blown away by how good book two was, I was so anxious to read this installment. It didn’t have the same magic as the previous books. Dawn and Patrick didn’t have the undeniable chemistry like the other couples. They were kind of boring for me. I didn’t feel like we needed a whole book devoted to Dawn anyway. She’s more of a background character and that’s it. I felt like this book had too much unnecessary angst. It felt like a Lifetime movie. Overall, it didn’t live up to my expectations.
Christina C. Jones continues to write the perfect romance in the 3rd title in the Inevitable series.
We’re reintroduced to Dawn Oliver [Kora’s daughter] a few years into her career. She’s still dealing with an unforgiving media/press while trying to prove she’s more than just a pretty face with nepotism on her side. A chance encounter introduces her to Patrick, and he’ll soon introduce her to love unlike any she’s ever experienced.
He brings her joy and multiple orgasms all while helping to support her as she prepares to return to the stage. Dawn and Patrick fall for each other quickly but will her fame and his need for privacy drive them apart?
This was an easy read. I love reading drama-free, non-toxic love stories, and Christina C. Jones doesn’t miss in this series.
While the series doesn’t need to be read in order, I do recommend reading the previous titles in this series.
I thought I wasn't going to like Dawn Oliver, due to how she was kind of portrayed as spoiled, in the previous books, but I think she was the fav of the 3 characters in this series. I loved Patrick and all his brokenness. I loved how the author had him struggle with his feelings and trying to sort through them, when it came to Dawn. I would definitely love more on these 2; like how things are a few years from now. This was a great book to end the series. Super cute. Great read.
Dawn and Patrick had me blushing, I love their banter. Patrick was so grounded, and calming. He was so unfazed by Dawn’s celebrity all while respecting her craft. Dawn is young, talented and unexperienced in love. I enjoyed that we got more of a glimpse into her life as an actress. On different levels these two were grieving and offered each other healing. 🫶🏾🥰😍❤️
Dawn and Patrick story was really great. Loved that it wasn't predictable. It was two people dealing with life the best way they could and then faith came into play. Loved it and hope to hear more from them.
