Sunny has survived her first encounter with Hellix, but there’s more to come.  The evil organisation is now stalking other talented teenagers. Sunny wants to beat them to the punch in order to flush out Nesti, the shadowy head of Hellix.

To complicate matters, her crush on Hunter hasn’t eased off, in fact, it’s getting worse. Lots worse.  And he’s just taken on a job that puts him closer to Sunny every day – but further away from her arms. The constant temptation will drive her mad – if Nesti doesn’t manage to send her insane first.

I always love the second in a series because you already know and love the characters and can jump straight into the story and this one is no different. BEST. ENDING. EVER (sorry I'm trying for no spoilers) I loved the disclaimer at the start of the book! The tension between Sunny and Hunter was fantastic, dying for them to put me out of my misery. Someone else said that these boooks need new covers and I agree, they're too cheesy and not in the spirit of the books. Can't wait for number 3!

An absolutely spectacular follow up to The Mouse! The Alternate takes the reader on a breathless ride through Sunny's world, a world filled with dark secrets, espionage, sexy secret agents doubling as English teachers, and so much sexual tension that the reader can't stop flipping through the pages!

In this stunning sequel, Sunny is still at it--saving the world in the only way she knows how: by going in The Alternate and yanking victims out of the bad guys' hands. She still has it bad for Hunter. But Hunter is disciplined and doesn't want to get too close for fear of losing Sunny and getting hurt. But Sunny is relentless and strong in all she does. And even Hunter can't hold out for long.

And Annabel! Oh, Annabel! The kick-butt, sarcastic best friend of Sunny gets her moment in the sun. Finally!

Then there's Steph, Sunny's stepMOMster. It's hard to tell where that part of the story is going. Is she really a MOMster? Or is she good? Secrets are revealed that made one-click buying of the third book a no-brainer!

I don't have enough good things to say about this book! It's simply amazing. I read it all in one sitting! I couldn't stop. Ms. Hignett has created a drug in the form of her books. . . and I'm an addict!

In“The Alternate,” the second book in the YA fantasy by author Lauretta Hignett, Sunny continues to walk a tightrope between her two lives: one as a typical teenager; the other as a superhero. When she enters the Alternate, another reality, Sunny becomes invisible and can fly. Under the direction of intelligence agent Hunter Katz, she uses her superpowers to save other gifted individuals from the clutches of the sinister Helix organization. There's only one problem, Sunny is madly in love with Hunter, who is fighting a losing battle to maintain a professional relationship. Her best friend, Annabel, is back, keeping Sunny grounded and helping to steer her through the hazards of high school life. This is a fun, fast-moving book with likable characters that teens and YA readers will enjoy.

BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE!!! I'm so glad I carried on with the series. This next one is more about having to deal with school stuff as well as superhero stuff, and there's a dance - I always love a dance. There's more of Annabel, the best mate, and she's my favorite character. And after I finished this book, she's even more of my favorite character, I loved the ending and what happened to her. I'm going to lobby for a spin-off for her.

THese books need new covers though. This one was too cheesy and I copped a look at the next book on Amazon Red Pin, and that cover is just not right. Looking forward to the next one.

A Great Read!

This series keeps getting better and better. I am very impressed with the quality of this book and series. I am very keen to read what happens next in the fantastically whirlwind lives of Sunny and Hunter. If you're interested in an excellent, action -packed, novel steeped in the supernatural and clandestine operations of the good, the bad, and the downright scary this series is more than worthy of your time. Two Thumbs way up for this book and the first of the series!

As Always, I Wish Happy Reads to All from the Unapologetic Book Junkie 😉!

THIS ENDING...

connecting to the previous ending of the last book. LADY you ways of telling a story. The twists and turns and there was a whole scene that had me laughing sideways. I love Annabelle she needs her own series.
