The Devil in the Duke is Logan's story, a favorite recurring character in the Revelry's Tempest series, the enthralling historical regency era romances by USA Today bestselling author, K.J. The novels in the Revelry's Tempest series by K.J. Jackson are each stand-alone stories and can be read individually in any order. These historical romances are set in the Regency and Victorian eras, and do not shy away from scenes with steamy heat, occasional naughty language, and moments that might possibly make you squirm.
Very emotional story about two abused children, a boy and a girl, who ran away from St Giles , got married and were separated by evil forces. He almost died and she was thought dead. Actually she was hurt and got amnesia and doesn't know anything about her past. For 10 long years they have been separated but you feel their love the minute he sees her and she sees him. I don't want to spoil this story because there are so many twists and turns your head starts spinning. I have waited for Logan's story and I was awed by it. I loved the h so much. She had been through so much And yet she thrived once they started trying to unravel the threads of their lives. And the H is totally swoon worthy and so in love with his wife. It's almost painful to watch. But their journey together is superb. There's one point in the book where I didn't believe what she did because it just didn't fit with the love she had with him. I was so angry that she believed the evil villain and acted so badly towards the H, I was like enough already but their love powered through and she finally understood. What those children went through is heartbreaking and so traumatic, all of them were so damaged and emotionally bereft and in the end all they have is each other. And their love. Selfless and beautiful. I definitely recommend reading the other books in the series in order to fully experience this one. I do hope a book about Robby, the brother comes out. He broke my heart too. Loved this series. I wish I could experience it again for the first time.
The beginning was intriguing and -frustrating. Frustrating in the sense that I was just like Sienna in the book. I had no idea what had happened until the moment I opened it and with Logan refusing to share the details of her past, I was just as lost! Like her I only knew the bits and pieces she remembered putting me in so much suspense!
But then... as the book went on I understood why he had to have all of her or nothing at all. The love they shared was powerful, my gosh! I was so close to tears by the depth of it. I loved Logan. He was perfect. That’s the word, absolutely “perfect” in his love for Sienna. The way he loved and protected her from the childhood. All the sacrifices he made just to keep her safe, cared for and happy. How he held back things that would have redeemed him to her but hurt her in other ways. How he was so caring and determined. It was beautiful.
And I loved Sienna too. I loved her fire and the fact that she wasn’t written all perfect and docile like most heroines. If I could give a book 30 stars, it’d be this book.
The hero is well drawn, we can really feel all his feelings, his intense pain and sorrow at finding the wife he's thought dead for 10 years alive but without any memory of her past and of him. His desire to protect her from the painful memories of their childhood is understandable even if it can be frustrating for the heroine.
She is not as likeable. On one part it's because of her amnesia, she doesn't have the same depth of feelings as her memories come back little by little, and she wanting to protect herself from those flashes is understandable at first. But as the story progresses I thought she was inconsistent, changing her mind about what she wanted in a blink of an eye. But it can be attributed to her head injury as well so I was just waiting for how the story would unfold.
And suddenly, as if they didn't suffer enough until then, the author decides to put another obstacle in their path. The heroine meets someone important from her past, whom she doesn't remember except with flashes of fear, and not only does she believes what he tells her about the hero, but she decides to disappear and have him give her wedding ring back to the hero saying she doesn't want to see him again, all this without trying to talk to the hero first when two pages before she was saying she trusted and loved him. I was so angry with her! Of course without this obstacle the book would have been almost 100 pages shorter, but that was too easy and frustrating!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 My poor heart was put through the shredder on this one , wow it’s quite emotional. I’ve read others from this author, but non from this series, though I do have them they are on a very long tbr pile , this one I was asked to review and I’m so glad I did , now I can’t wait to go back and see what started it all , how they got to where they are . This is a series, but I found it easy to read as a stand-alone too . There’s some great characters in this book , really well developed and strong . I loved the evil one, The baddy , such a story needs one and this was brilliant. The hero was great , he was thoughtful and kind , but he has a streak in him that’s been developed by losing her as he first thinks he has ten years before , brought up in a brothel they are all tough and have a way of staying alive despite everything. To me she was the weakest character if you can call her that, ( I wouldn’t to her face) but that’s because of her loss of memory, as she remembers she grows and I loved her more . In all a great book that I would happily recommend . I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review
“He knew this would happen. Knew she would die. Leave him alone on this earth. He’d known it from the start. Known it since she was three and he was five. One did not grow old in the world they existed in. For death followed him. It always had:” Just that quote from the book tore at my heart. This is Logan’s story, one of the men that has been part of this series and managed the guards at The Revelry’s Tempest. He has been a husk of a man since his beloved wife Sierra had died ten years ago and he blamed himself. It had driven his actions in everything he did. But one amazing day he thinks he sees her and runs to talk to her. Could it be her or was he going crazy! It was her but she had lost her memory and at first did not believe he was her husband All I can say is this story pulled me in, with darkness and light that exploded at times. Logan, his brother Robbie and Sierra had grown up together under awful circumstances that they only wanted to escape. The emotions that ran hot and cold brought such sadness but the love these two had was transcendent. I have enjoyed every book I have read by this wonderful author. Her characters truly come alive alive and this story will make your heart smile at the end
From the first snippets that I read after the last story, I knew that Logan’s back story and HEA would be extraordinary. It was.
We first met Logan Lipinstein, the gorgeous, yet enigmatic, head guard of Revelry’s Tempest at the beginning of the series as the three ladies struggled to survive as independent widows running a sophisticated gambling den for the ton. Never could this reader have imagined the backstory Jackson has cooked up for our hero. It was delicious!
Sienna is Logan’s one true and tragic love. Jackson separates them, brings them together, separates them and brings them together, separates and finally, finally brings them together again. Mix in a tumultuous childhood, the Peninsula wars, heavy burdens of guilt and a little help from their friends, then top it off with an ever present and ever evil nemesis, Bournestein, pulling the strings in his Machiavellian way. This story twists and turns and fascinates in turn.
K.J. Jackson is an autobuy author for me. Her stories always captivate me. She plays with memory and the mind in ways that enthrall me and keep me reading. Another winner. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
4* for "I really liked it." I could not put this down. In the previous books of the series, Logan was a brooding supporting character with secrets. Now we know Logan's history, thus better explaining his character and behavior. There is a very deep love between Logan and Sienna drawn herein. Great read with some surprises. I read an advance copy and voluntarily post my review.
At last! Logan’s story is here and it is fantastic!! The Devil In The Duke is the latest [not sure if concluding] entry in the Logan’s Heroes and Revelry’s Tempest series by an absolute [for me] autobuy author K J Jackson. We have met and followed the mysterious Logan from the first book in the series and he has always intrigued. His story is completely unexpected and really enjoyable. Logan Lipinstein thought he had lost his wife in the wars 10 years ago and is an emotional shell of a man. Until one day he comes across his wife in a sleepy English village. The problem is that she has no memory of him or of their previous life together. Logan has to convince his wife that they truly belong together but there are dangers past and present that he doesn’t wish her to find out about. Can she learn to trust him? Sienna has spent the past ten years knowing something is missing in her life but she certainly never thought it would be someone as magnetic as this mysterious stranger. Her heart recognises him but how can she trust him when he is keeping secrets? I really loved Logan and Sienna’s story. It is certainly not lighthearted and there are dark elements in the story but what shines throughout is the love that Logan and Sienna share. The reader follows Sienna as she unravels the events of the past and fights the dangers in the present. She is as always a strong and capable heroine. Logan has of course been such a character of interest over the past books that his story comes with high expectations. And he is a wonderful hero with many surprises. I would really highly recommend this book and definitely suggest reading the rest of the series. I did very generously receive an ARC from the author but the views are entirely my own.
Ten years ago Logan Lipinstein lost the other half of his soul while fighting in the war with France. Since that time, he has focused on helping others, but not himself. He's beyond redemption. He's beyond saving. Then he sees her familiar form....
Sienna has adjusted to her secluded life as a spinster, but she still wonders about her lost memories. Not that she doesn't believe her grandmother's explanation of her accident. She knows she must accept her life, and she does. Then she is confronted by him...
I love K. J. Jackson's books. She is a master when it comes to building a realistic fictional world set in another era. That said, her books can be intense and emotionally blunt. Such is the case with Logan and Sienna's story. Their story has a sad, but sensitive and interesting plot punctuated by darkness and brutal violence. These two flawed people have had to struggle all their lives, and are still struggling. Which is why this is not a sweetness and light read. Instead it is a rough and tough look into an all encompassing love that has suffered tragedy, but is determined to have a happy ending.
Although The Devil in the Duke is a stand-alone novel, reading the first five books in the series will help with understanding the characters and the context of the plot. Thankfully, Ms. Jackson has taken care to work in enough back story so as to lessen a new reader's confusion. Lastly, although this book is free of vulgarities, there are scenes that include explicit marital intimacy. Which is why a potential reader should be mature and not easily offended.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author via BookFunnel. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
With intriguing dual stories being told from the perspective of both the past and the present, the story lures readers to discover the mystery behind Logan's connection to Sienna.
An incredible book. I loved reading it from start to finish. From page one, the suspense begins to build and the drama unfolds. The characters are memorable and personable. It took about three to four hours to read. The pace of the book is moderate and easy to read. It is about the romance of the ages, to the death and beyond the grave. Logan, his brother Robby and their mother were ousted from their ducal home by their older half-brothers when their father died. Logan's mother had nowhere to go. She fell upon the mercy of one Bournestein, her old suitor. Bournestein ran bawdy houses and gaming hells. He took Logan, his brother and his mother in and gave them food and shelter. Previously Bournestein had taken up with one of the women of the bawdy house and fathered a girl. Her name was Sienna. After Logan and his family entered the scene, Bournestein never visited Sienna's mother's bed again. He now spent all his nights with Logan's mother. Sienna's mother was the resentful and vindictive type. She never wanted Sienna and treated her cruelly and beat her often. But Bournestein did, even though he was a horrible man, he loved Sienna in a twisted way. He protected her for the goings and coming of the clients in the bawdy house. Sienna, Logan and Robby all grew up together with a bunch of boys that formed a gang called the Nowhere Boys. Sienna and Logan were in separable and grew to rely on each other. Logan always looked out for her and Robby. Eventually Sienna and Logan ran away and got married. Bournestein always kept tabs on Sienna. Logan joined the military. Sienna followed Logan to Spain. There was a horrible battle being fought and Sienna's life was in danger. Logan ordered his men toward the village where she was to save her. But it was too late. He found her charred remains and her wedding ring. For ten years he was a shell of a man until one day during his travels the weather caused him to take a detour. There in the middle of the village stood Sienna. He followed her and spoke with her. He told her that he was her husband. But she had no memory at all. She was told ten years ago that she fell from a horse, hit her head and lost her memory. The only thing that tied her and Logan together were her drawings. Over the years, she was constantly drawing his picture. Logan thought to let her be. She was at peace, she was well looked after and did not seem to want for anything. Logan decided to leave the village and go back to London. But Sienna rode after him and told him that even though her mind did not remember him, her body did. She convinced him to take her away with him and she was happy that they were reunited. Sienna peppered Logan with hundreds of questions, but Logan evaded telling her about her past. He thought that she was better off not remembering. On the other hand, he hoped she would remember on her own. When they returned to London all heck broke loose. Bournestein found Sienna, kidnapped her and then soundly had Logan beaten. The war between Bournestein and Logan was reignited and he was ready to recover his wife. But at what cost? As Sienna was remembering bits and pieces of her memory, when she did have a breakthrough, it often brought pain and anguish. That was something Logan wanted to spare her. The battle of wills between Bournestein and Logan became heated and long. This book is full of suspense, drama, action, heartache and pain. The love and romance between Logan and Sienna had been threatened from the very beginning and continued to be so. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. You will never guess the ending. Prepare to be shocked. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
WOW !! WOW !! WOW !! Just superb ... I have read Cassandra & Hunters's story in "A Revelry's Tempest " series & was always curious ,eager to read Logan's story ... K.J. has done a brilliant job with Logan's story in " The Devil In the Duke " the 6th book in this series... This book is a part & magnificent finale of the series but can be read as a standalone....
Logan one of the men that has been part of this series and managed the guards at The Revelry’s Tempest has played a role in every story in the Revelry series ...he was always woven into the previous books so wanting to read his story became a obsession ...His character was strong, mysterious, intense, humble, responsible, tough, helpful but with a sadness ,unhappiness in the background...
In this book it comes to light how 10 years ago Logan lost the other half of his soul his wife Sienna while fighting in the Napoleonic wars with France. Since that time he found Sienna's unrecognizable body with only the wedding ring he has just been surviving, trying to attain for past sins by helping others ...
Sienna Ponstance is living a spinster's life at her grandmother's estate for the last 10 yrs. She suffers from memory loss & cannot remember any of her childhood or growing up. Her grandmother told her she lost her memory when she fell from a horse - so she has accepted her life, her charcoals, the quaint village....one day Logan comes across his wife in this sleepy English village by chance or fate whatever u call it....he has to convince his wife that they truly belong together & help her in regaining her memory ....he is also apprehensive as there are dangers in the past and present that he doesn’t wish her to find out .
How together they face all the hurdles ,problems thrown at them fighting against all odds & fall more in love is the conclusion of the story ....There story has sensitivity, intense emotions , love..it is a very well written book ... the plot is interesting & fast paced ...the story pulls you in its so captivating ...some parts, moments had sadness & darkness ,depicting love that has suffered tragedy, but it was natural as life teaches you to value your happiness...
I love K.J. Jackson's writing ... her stories are full of intense love, feelings ..the characters presented in the stories are progressive ...the best i like is the strong women portrayed in the Regency era where women opinions , person were not much valued... in her books women come out bold, brave , intelligent ....K.J. has done a marvelous work with this book & not disappointed ...once again she gives us a excellent book ... I highly recommend the book ... Please do read ...It was a most satisfying read and so very heart warming. Though being a standalone if u read the previous books in the series, they clarify events happening in The Devil in The Duke.
" I received an ARC from the author , this is my voluntary and honest review " ...
I have read all of the books in K.J. Jackson's Revelry's Tempest series and enjoyed every one. Ms. Jackson has a way with her dialogue, character, and story development so that I feel I am right there, feeling the emotions of the characters, and experiencing everything that is happening. At times her stories are so gripping and emotionally charged that I wonder how can they survive this, what can happen next, is there any resolution to what is going on? With The Devil in The Duke, Ms. Jackson has once again excelled at creating a believable story with characters and a romance that thoroughly engaged my interest until the last page was read.
In The Devil in The Duke, Logan Lipinstein, the most steadfast secondary character from the previous Revelry's Tempest books, finally gets his story told. Logan lost his wife ten years before in the Napoleonic wars. He has silently mourned her, until one day he sees Sienna pass by him carrying a basket of bread. From this point forward progresses a roller coaster ride full of past and present dangers, secrets held and revealed, and lost love reawakening.
This was a most satisfying read and so very romantic. It is one I highly recommend. This is a standalone work, but having read the previous works in the series, they do help to lay the foundation for events happening in The Devil in The Duke. I was fortunate to receive an ARC from the author and provide this voluntary and unsolicited review.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: page-turner, unpredictable, tragic, original, witty, wonderful characters, romantic, happily ever after.
This IS the story you are looking for! I admit I was excited and fearful at the same time when I got this, we all have been waiting for Logan’s story so what if it didn’t deliver? Fear not my friends, Logan’s story was well worth the wait.
This is a story of a boy who grew up in a gaming hell/brothel and managed to protect his mother, brother, friend & future wife Sienna from most of the horrors that could have happened. It’s the story of a man who lost everything including his wife Sienna yet still spent his life helping others in need. It’s a story of a man that managed to remain kind in spite of everything and a man willing to give wounded soldiers a second chance when the rest of the world turned their backs on them.
It’s also a story of Sienna who lost her memory and was thought to be dead. She was hidden away from Logan and told she had never been married, she retained no knowledge of her life before she woke up after receiving a blow to her head. She spent 10 years living in limbo, knowing something was missing until a chance encounter brings Logan back into her life.
Their story once they reunite is full of hope. Hope that Sienna will remember him, remember their bond. The dark spots are filled in and we come to know Logan in a way we always hoped we would. As I said at the start of this review... this IS the story you are looking for. K.J. has given us the hero we wanted and knew Logan was.
I was given an ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I’ve waited since the beginning for Logan’s story, there’s just something about the strong silent type, and Logan just fits the part. Logan has secrets that he hasn’t shared with anyone, he’s been hiding his broken heart for the past ten years, especialy from himself. His beloved wife’s death has left a void in his heart, his decision to help his wife brought death to many of his men, which he’s been trying to atone for the last ten years, the Ravelry’s Tempest has been a balm to his soul. Until the day a ghost from the past brings his existence and life as he knew it shattering to the ground. His beloved dead wife Sienna is alive and has no recollection of who he is! How does he convince her that they had a life together that they had a past and they loved each other with an all consuming passion? Sienna can’t believe that the man with the steely grey eyes is her husband, she feels a strong attraction to him but has no recollection of him, except she’s been drawing him for the past ten years! She must be going crazy! Her life just got a little bit more complicated when she decides to throw caution to the wind and follow Logan to London. Every day she spends with Logan she realizes that he truly could be her husband, her body and heart know the truth!
Logan’s story rocked! This was one rollorcoaster emotional ride! I never thought that Logan was married this was a shocker to me, he really kept his secrets close to his heart. So many dangers follow the couple, a treacherous foe creates havoc for Logan just when they get a glimpse of how the pieces of their lives can be salvaged their enemy is bent on destroying them for good. The past collide with the present, secrets are revealed that can destroy them forever! A surprising twist keeps the reader glued to the pages to the very satisfying ending. I highly recommend this book although reading the whole series would be ideal!
I recieved a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
From it’s beautiful cover through it’s final words, K.J. Jackson’s The Devil in the Duke: A Revelry’s Tempest Novel is a total delight of a Regency Romance tale. Logan Lipinstein has been an interesting character in prior books in the series and it’s about time he got his own story. And a total doozy of a story it is. Read the publisher’s blurb. The description is a good one and doesn’t spoil anything important. I loved this story. I loved Sienna Ponstance and how these two deal with everything as the tale unfolds. This is one of those rare cases where you actually can “tell a book from its cover”. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I loved this story & am so happy that Logan finally got is own story & found happiness!
Logan Lipinstein lost his wife, his soul mate, 10 yrs. ago during the war. He found Sienna's unrecognizable body with only the wedding ring he had given her to identify her. Since then, he has just been surviving, trying to make up for past sins & his silver eyes show the haunting left from those years gone by.
Sienna Ponstance is living at her grandmother's estate & has lived there for the last 10 yrs. Before that, she cannot remember any of her childhood or growing up. Her grandmother told her she lost her memory when she fell from a horse - so she has accepted her life, her charcoals, the quaint village, the peaceful country days & the spinster she has become.
Logan stops at an inn on his way back to London & he swears he sees his wife - she is leaving the bakery carrying a basket of bread. He follows her, he catches her, he approaches her, he tells her she is his wife, she doesn't know his, she stabs him, she leaves him bleeding!
Will he live - will she remember - can love conquer - will they ever be together again? You will love this story & the whole series. Ms. Jackson has such a talent with words to make you fall in love with her characters & submerge you into the story.
Logan appears to be the strong, silent type of man and he has his secrets. One of which, is that he is married and thought his wife to be dead. Logan sees his wife, Sienna whilst travelling through the north of England. However, Sienna has lost her memory. Sienna is a strong woman and it was engaging to read of their connection and the way in which her memory gradually returned. There was a particularly evil villain that will do anything to thwart their new found happiness. This was an enthralling story, at times the tension was palpable and there were tender moments as well as steamy ones. 4.5 stars
Logan, the head guard at revelry’s Tempest, had a past that no one knew. And while talking a walk in a village he sees his wife, Sienna, who he thought had died ten years ago. But her memory is lost. Their story is one of finding each other again, then being ripped apart. You will have your heart shredded reading this story but they do get their HEA!
I loved Logan Sienna’s story! Such a tragic tale of love lost then found then lost again. Poor Sienna with her lost memory and poor Logan finding his love only to have her not remember him. I couldn’t put this book down and reading well in to the night waiting for all the pieces to fall in place. It was worth the lost sleep.
Another awesome book! I knew that when we got to Logan, it would be special. Many questions were answered, and there were several twists I did not expect. This book was well worth waiting for. KJ Jackson does not disappoint. Ever.
Some terrible things happen to you . Your mind just wants to forget. But when your love see you again.you know you must remember. Heartbreaking and a great read Logan gets his ending!
