July 1945—Noah Weatherby returns from war to the woman he fell in love with, one letter at a time. Understanding he's been given a second chance to make something of his life, he begins to search for a greater purpose while battling memories of the horrors of war and how to live with them moving forward.
Anna Sims has been praying for Noah's safe return since she started writing him after her brother, Noah's best friend, died. He's every inch the hero she imagined, but she knows he's haunted by what he did in the war. Struggling to help him, she's faced with a greater problem: her still-grieving mother doesn't want him to be around. Noah is a reminder that her own son is never coming back.
As Noah and Anna both move forward to create a new life together, they face their deepest shadows while holding fast to the sunshine they find in each other's arms.

A beautiful heart warming conclusion to all of the letters between Noah Weatherby and Anna Sims after his return from the war. I must admit one of my favorite characters was Father Niall Shaunessey.
This is the meeting I've been waiting for since finishing Letters Across an Open Sea. This story gives you the struggle of a city as WWII is happening. The emotion just rolls off the characters. I just loved Noah. He captured my heart through his letters and he kept it through this book. Noah and Anna are such a cute couple. It was beautiful to watch them get to know one another. Though it's not all sunshine and roses. They must weather another storm if they want the future they wrote to each other about. Another character I just adored was Father Shaughnessy. He knew exactly the right words to offer encouragement and comfort. That city was lucky to have him. The epilogue was the cherry on a sundae for this book.
This is the final chapter or act of the love letters compilation. I think it could even be read as a stand alone book. But is better read following letters across the sea. Anna and Noah are such a great couple and it’s so nice to see their lives together after the war. The emotions run high with this book but it was hard to put down. It’s all about never giving up!

Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadows is an amazing book. It is the final "ACT" of the Letters Across the Open Sea Compilation. This book can be read as a stand alone.
This is book is about Anna Simms and Noah Weatherby. They started writing letters during WWII when Noah was stationed over seas. The book starts over a year and a half after they began writing to one another.
Noah is finally home from the war. He does not have to see the killing and daily acts of violence. He does not have to see any more of his friends die from this war. Germany has surrendered, and the government is sending Noah home, as the war continues with Japan.
Anna Simms is a teacher in South Side Chicago at a Catholic Parish Church. Anna lives with her mother. Anna also helps with dancing with soldiers in the USO.
Noah is at Anna's house. He is finally going to see her. But, she is not there to great him. Anna's mother is there. She has no desire to see the person who last saw her son alive. She wants her son to be home, not this other person. Her heart is hardened with the loss of her son.
I could feel all of the emotions in this book. I did not want to put it down. I felt the anger, the sadness, the fear, and even the happiness. It is amazing how a person can help another when they do not realize it. Help them with the grief and emotions that go with the loss.
I really enjoyed this book. Thinking about landmarks in Chicago, the library, and churches. How overwhelming it could become for someone who has been so secluded for such a long time. This book is about survival, love, and NEVER giving up! I makes you stop and ask yourself questions. Could I do this? Could I leave my family to start a new life? Am I willing to give up everything for the man that I love with all of my heart?

Beautiful. A timeless story of love and the struggles life brings. WW11 changed the world. It also changed the lives of many. Sons were lost, others survived but at a high cost. This is Noah and Anna’s story. It’s a vivid portrayal of the couple, their struggles, their love and how they overcome the pains of life after war.
Noah and Anna were drawn to each other through letters they exchanged during the war. Noah’s best friend died and he was Anna’s brother. As the author says, Noah started falling in love with Anna letter by letter. Now we have Noah home. He wants to meet that special woman he was so drawn too from the letters she wrote.
Although home now, life is not easy. Noah is a real hero but that came at a price. He struggles with memories of the battlefields, Anna struggles with a grieving mother who lost her son.
If you want a really heartwarming story that shows how to overcome life’s curve balls, this definitely would qualify. It’s easy to feel the emotions, the losses, the despair of the characters. This can be read as a stand alone but is the last book in the ‘Letter’ series.
👁 OBSERVATIONS:
Don’t be surprised if you don’t start thinking about those close to you who have endured war. It’s easy to allow this book to become personal.
I couldn’t help but reminisce about my father. He was part of that ‘greatest generation’ and fought in WW11. He really didn’t like to talk about the memories, but the few times he opened up to me I could sense that he and his ‘fox hole’ friends suffered and experienced things that is hard to fathom. My dad is deceased now but his Purple Heart hangs proudly on my brother’s wall.

This book is the ending to Letters Across an Open Sea (compilation), however you can read this book without having read those. Letters Across an Open Sea is the beginning story of Noah Weatherby and Anna Sims and about their relationship that starts with writing letter to each other during World War 2 after Anna’s brother Martin who is also Noah’s best friend, dies. Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadow takes place as Noah finally comes back from the war (about a year and a half from when they started writing), it leaves off where the letters stop but there is enough information given that you can read this without reading the letters. I love this story like I do all of Ava Miles books. I think this is a little more special about Ava knows a little about being in a war zone. I love how good a job she does with showing the good and bad of coming back from the war for the soldiers. She also shows the truth in dealing with issues people have when some loved ones come home, and others do not. All of it is an adjustment for everyone and for those of us who have never had to deal with something like this it helps you relate. Anna’s mom is not happy Noah is there and her son, Martin is not. This is hard for both Noah and Anna in different ways. The community that Anna lives in including her Priest that she seems to adore tries to help them both. This is an amazing story and one that is so worth the read. "I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. If you have read Letters across open seas you will have already had a glimpse into Noah and Anna’s story although this book can be read as a stand-alone book if you haven’t, as it’s easy to pick up on the story.
Noah and Anna finally meet after years of writing to each other throughout the war, they have made been each others sanctuary through the hard times and are ready to move onto the next chapter of their lives, but Anna’s mother is doing her best to make sure they are split apart she has lost her son to the war and can’t stand that Noah has made it through. She makes it clear to Anna that if she chooses to marry Noah she will have nothing more to do with her and will make sure all their neighbours know that she disapproves.
What she doesn’t reckon on is that the local priest has taken a liking to Noah even though he is not of the same faith as Anna and promises to support them if they decided to Marry.
Noah is troubled from his experience of war and doesn’t feel he deserves Anna’s love especially after he tells her that her brother died saving his life and because he was an orphan he doesn’t want Anna to regret her mother turning her back on her.
This is quite a different story to what Ava usually writes but I have enjoyed this book. “I received an ebook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own”.
I did not read the letters one by one when Ava first published them. I had the pleasure of reading the compilation of them. And, they intrigued me to read the "ending" of Anna and Noah's story. I thought it was an absolute beautiful scene when they first saw each other in person. I had such a vivid picture in my mind of how it looked. Anna and Noah had a love that evolved through letters and only intensified when they finally met and began spending time together. There was one main obstacle, and that was Anna's mom. Noah had a lot to overcome with being away at war for such a long time and then trying to acclimate himself into home life. He did not want to come between Anna and her mom, but also wanted to be with her. He found guidance through Niall. Those were some really powerful parts of the book as well. He was such a great supporting character. The book was great in that it opened my eyes to how men and women are affected by being in war and then returning home. Anna and Noah had a great love and this was a great way to finish their story. "I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. A lovely conclusion to the love letters saga! I was a little skeptical when I saw that this book could be read as a stand alone, but I must now say that I really think it could. Obviously you will enjoy it more if you read the 20 letters exchanged during the war, but the author does a good job of recapping previous conversations and events in a way that doesn't feel repetitive or boring.
Anna and Noah are a great couple, and they complement each other well. I liked watching them meet and get to know each other in person after only communicating via mail. It was also interesting to see them both navigate life during/after the war. It certainly isn't an easy journey for them, but it's worth it in the end. One element of the ending was a little disappointing, but I guess that is life and not unexpected in this circumstance.
Overall, this is a lovely conclusion to a pretty epic love story.

I love Noah and Anna. They finally meet and they know they are supposed to be together. The problem is her mother. Anna's mother can't get around the idea that her son is dead, Noah is alive and wants to be part of her family. She will not allow it. There is so much uncertainty. Noah can't move forward until the war is over and then he doesn't know what he will do with his life. He just knows that he wants Anna to be there, but he won't come between Anna and her mother. Noah knows what it is like to be without a family, but Anna doesn't. She not only has her mother, but she has the whole neighborhood. How can he take her away from that if her mother doesn't change her mind? Noah has come to love the neighborhood, has made some good friends and doesn't want to turn his back on that either. But, he can't stay there if Anna decides to stay with her mother and not him. Will she go away with him? They both have some decisions to make.
I was so excited to read the story of Anna and Noah finally being together! It was a beautiful story of their love and trust in the midst of we now call post traumatic stress for our soldiers and the unbelievable grief of a parent losing a son. It was hard to read what Noah went through in the war and is feelings of not fitting in. It was more difficult to comprehend what Mrs. Sims was going through and her actions because of it. I have loved reading about Noah and Anna since they started writing letters to each other. This book brings them together and they eventually find their sunshine with each other. Beautifully written, as I felt all their emotions and feelings. Ava is an awesome writer and I encourage you to read this story of coming home from WW2. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and here is my honest review. What a wonderful way to end this heart warming story. After reading the Letters Across the Sea this book tells of Noah and Anna's story after he returns from the war. Noah is feeling guilty because he has returned and Anna's brother hasn't and while he knows that he loves Anna, he feels the hatred from her mother. The whole town is on their side and warmly welcomes Noah back into society. His friendship with Father Shaunessey is really wonderful and they way they help each other is felt through Ava's words. Whilst this book has a different setting and storyline to Ava's other books it sits right up there with the others. It is hard to put down and you want to continue their story and see how they both cope with what is going on around them. Thank you Ava Miles for writing such a great book to finish the story of the letters.
I fell in love with Noah and Anna. You can too. Before reading Ava Miles’s book, “Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadow”, I recommend reading “Letters across An Open Sea”. The book is made up of a series of letters between two partial strangers. The beginning of the love story between two people who fell in love during World War II. You will get to know and fall in love with Noah and Anna. You will laugh about their touching moments and cry after many sad ones. “Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadow” continues their story when war is over and they finally meet. You will live their sorrow for the past and their hope for a new beginning and a promising future. "I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. Noah and Anna have been writing letters to each other during the war after Anna's brother was killed saving Noah and now they get to meet but Anna's mother is bitter that Noah gets to return home and her son didn't so she sets out to break them apart and then she tells Anna that if she gets married to Noah she will have nothing to do with her and will make her life very difficult. What will happen between Noah and Anna, will they have to sacrifice everything to be together or will Anna's mother drive a wedge between them. Omg this was such a moving story about bitterness, loss, hope, guilt, love and a chance to forgive. Eva Miles is a brilliant author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her as they are definitely worth reading.

It was good to see Noah and Anna together after the war. Seeing all the adjustments they had to go thru just to be together was hard to read sometimes knowing what he had went thru to get home to her. It seems to be a true testament of the power of love. How even in the darkest hours the love of someone...even someone you have never met in person can change your life forever.
I loved the community feel in this book. How Anna's community just rallied around Noah and welcomed him back with open arms. All but her mother who just can't seem to get a grasp on her grief. She will ultimately be their biggest adversary. And what a shame for Anna to have to be put in that situation. But with the support from her church and Father Shaughnessy they may just have a chance.
If you have read, Letters Across An Open Sea, then you have met Noah and Anna. Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadows picks up and continues the story but can definitely stand on its own. This book gives you a glimpse into what life was like during the time of WWII, while weaving love, hope and perseverance through a time of so much sadness. This story is also a reminder of how a community can come together in times of need.
I enjoyed this book and fell in love with the characters and the setting. The South Side of Chicago holds a very special place in my heart.

This is the book I have been waiting for having totally loved LETTERS ACROSS AN OPEN SEA. Noah and Anna’s story as the finally meet after the long and horrifying war. Written with a truly believable insight into what was an incredibly difficult transition from the war back to day to day life, the story delivers a beautiful and real narrative. I read and read it again, with tears in my eyes. I couldn’t stop once I started. Ava, as always, you give us such an amazing story … thank you so much!

I love this conclusion to Anna and Noah's love story! They fell in love writing letters to each other during the war and when Noah gets home safe and sound Anna is there waiting for him. She was his lifeline for a year and a half and now she is ready to start their life together, but Noah is having some difficulty adjusting back to civilian life and isn't sure if he ready to settle down with Anna while dealing with all of these ghosts.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
This is a powerful love story between two people who fell in love during World War II. Noah and Anna fell in love while they wrote letters to each other and after Noah left the war and came to Anna their love grew. I enjoyed so much hearing their story and of them staying together through it all. Thank you Ava for a beautiful love story. Looking forward to your next book.

I've read all her books, loved them all.....However, I couldn't finish this one. I started with the "letters" in anticipation for the book but was sadly let down.
It is set in WWII, a soldier fell in love with his best friends sister thru letters across the sea. Returning home to her has proposed difficult with her mother and adjusting to life after war.
The story dragged on with no real progress 65% into the book so, I stopped. I'm thinking that far into any book something significant should have happened.....it didn't.
Wow. This emotional, heartwarming story takes you right into the closing days of Wotld War II, in a tale from the viewpoint of an unintentional war hero and the girl waiting for him to come home, but only knows him thru their letters. This is Noah and Anna’s story, and the trials, ups and downs of love that grew long distance, and the realities of PTSD. Once again, Ava Miles has written an amazing story.
A very moving book about a man coming back from war, trying to deal with the horrors of fighting, and the woman who loves him and just wants to help him get through his experiences. Fighting feelings of guilt, sorrow, despair and uncertainty about the future, Noah and Anna both work hard to come of the shadows and into the sunshine. I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review; all conclusions are my own.
During the last couple of months I have enjoyed reading the letters between This couple. Through them we saw how their friendship and love grew. This books takes us through the rest do their love story, but mostly it was about the struggles during and after a war, guilt, and forgiveness. The story is so real and so beautifully written. Another must read from Ms. Ava Miles
I am more in love with Ava's writing of the second book as I ever was the first they both are just that great! Of this Saga as newly widowed from losing my husband the love of my life to this Covid19 pandemic. It has given such a wonderful insightful out look on living life after losing loved ones to horrible deaths.
Now if Ava would just write about Assumpta's and Liam's life's growing up and meeting their spouses I would be thrilled.
This is a story of how strong true love can be. This isn't a genre I normally read, but the author managed to pull me in from the first page and left me begging for more by the last page. More than once, I found myself swiping at tears and holding my breath.
If you're in need of an escape pick up Along Waters of Sunshine and Shadows.
Once again Ava Miles has written a sensitive and touching story about the devastation of the consequences of WW2. So many people suffered and nations suffered the traumatic side effects. I loved the fact that Anna and Noah's love for each other overcame the obstacles in there life before they found their happily ever after.
Noah is finally home from the war and works to rebuild a normal life for himself. Anna has thought about Noah often. Can they find something real after all the letters back and forth? This book was a great read after Letters Across an Open Sea. I definitely recommend it.
This was a very emotional story for me. It helped me to understand what my parents went through in 1945. I was able to share it with my Mom, now 90 years old. Who was happy to share more about what it was like for them.
