The popular Curry Hotel continues to thrive in 1929 as more visitors come to Alaska and venture into the massive national park surrounding Denali. The year is 1929. Tayler Hale is a woman who loves the outdoors. A naturalist she is happiest when out in the national park in Colorado. But then her mother has other plans. She wants Tayler to marry Emerson. Tayler had feelings for him years earlier and they had become engaged until she found out he was a womaniser, betraying her multiple times. She breaks the engagement. But Emerson will not accept her answer. And for reasons of her own Tayler’s mother is adamant the wedding plans go ahead. Tayler decides her only option is to leave Colorado. She applies and succeeds in getting a job as a guide in McKinley National Park, Alaska and asks her boss at Yellowstone National Park not to reveal where she has gone. He agrees. She heads off to Alaska full of enthusiasm.
Thomas Smith is an orphan who never really knew what it was like to have a proper home. Until he lands in Curry Hotel and meets Cassidy, Allan, John, Mr Bradley and Mrs Johnson. They became like his family. But then a newcomer arrives in Alaska and will be working with Thomas. Trouble follows in ways neither Tayler nor Thomas expect as unexpected guests bring trouble to Curry.
I really liked Tayler, Thomas and the family members at Curry Hotel. There are some suitably nasty villains as well and it won’t take the reader long to figure out who they are.
This novel is decidedly Christian in content with a lot about the need for salvation, trusting God and reading the Bible. For that reason is won’t appeal to everyone. I am a Christian, so I had no issue with that aspect. My quibbles were in other areas.
This is a story of family, friendship, community, deception, danger and more than one romance burbling along, sometimes in unexpected places. It does get a tad repetitive some times but it an easy read, and I was able to follow easily and care for the characters without having read the first two books in the series. I enjoyed it though a couple of plots points felt a bit forced. I still would recommend it.

I am always well satisfied after reading a book by Tracie Peterson. I have read many books by her and the attention to historical details and descriptions is magnificent, whether it is scenery, details of fabrics of clothing or authentic speech of the time she never fails. This is the third book in the Heart of Alaska series and she coauthors it with Kimberley Woodhouse. I have read hers as well, on their own and coauthored with Tracie Peterson. I always look forward to their new books as they are automatic reads for me! Now I will admit I haven't read the first two books in this series, which I plan to do as soon as possible but this is a marvelous book all on it's own. I see the book is in memory of Cassidy Faith Hale who has a character named after her. What a wonderful way to memorialize this young girl. It made me cry. It will be hard to get into another book after reading this as I keep thinking about it and the lessons in it. It is better to give than receive, life is so hard do all you can to make it easier on others, forgive x 1 million you will be a better person for it. I loved seeing the bible verses in here, they are so uplifting. Highly recommended but be prepared to read late into the night as you just won't want to put it down.

There was lots to love about this story. I liked the family problems and how they were faced. I loved that Thomas was back and finally the lead. He’s been so amazing the whole series long, and I’m so grateful he was given the limelight in this book. The adventure was amazing, and I loved that it was a great backdrop for the numerous romances. The faith was nice and deep.

This story was a great finale to the series… except for the two profane words that were completely unnecessary. That was a huge disappointment.

It’s always fun to read stories about women who break cultural expectations in pursuit of their God-given talents. Tayler Hale has done this very thing by pursuing an education and landing a coveted position at Yellowstone National Park. When her mother attempts to force Tayler to settle down and marry, Tayler hastily accepts a new position as a naturalist at the Curry Hotel.

Over the course of the series, readers have watched Thomas mature while he rose from a clumsy kitchen assistant to a college graduate. I was pleased this character earned a story of his own and that he found a kindred spirit in Miss Hale. Due to the inclusion of three immature/meddlesome young ladies, I feel this story crosses the line into the territory of young adult fiction. Whether this was intentional or not, Under the Midnight Sun concludes the series on a positive and lighthearted note.

I devoured this as it is an excellent conclusion to The Heart of Alaska series. Revisiting the Curry Hotel and the characters we loved was enjoyable. Tayler Hale is the newcomer who has run from her past and she is identifiable and easily fits in with the family atmosphere. There are some unexpected turns that leave you feeling gobsmacked and thinking I didn’t see that one coming. The descriptions of Denali leave you wanting to visit as these authors picturesque details are flawless. I’m sad to see this series end as you feel like you are a part of these characters lives. Highly recommended but be prepared to not wanting to put it down.

I absolutely loved this book! While I’m sad that it’s over, I think it was a great ending to the series. The characters were excellent. It was like visiting with old friends. It’s nice to see them get their happy endings. I absolutely love the cover on this book! It’s so beautiful! I also enjoyed the different character perspectives throughout the story. I definitely recommend this book!

This book will give you all the feels as you dive into the last installment of the Curry series. You’ll revisit favorite characters and see storylines come to fruition that you’ve been cheering on since 2017! The very first book in this series introduced me to one of my all time favorites- Kimberley Woodhouse- and I wasn’t let down by this one. Once again, I’m ready to see Denali. #bucketlist

This book is so good! Most Christian books in series usually don't play on each other, so I thought I could read this series put of order. Turns out that I know sort of know what happens in the first two. Still a very good book!

My thoughts: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thomas Smith is just returning home to the Curry hotel, where the staff is like family and the work he does makes him feel complete. Or maybe not.

Thomas is confused when something just doesn't feel right after earning a degree in college and returning to the only home he's ever really known.

He's been training for years for the position he finally has, but that sense of belonging he used to feel just isn't there anymore.

Tayler Hale is running from a relentless man intent on marrying her for her money.

Ever since a certain tragedy, the Hale family just hasn't been the same.

Tayler has to get away. She finds solace in coming to Alaska.

And maybe, just maybe, she'll find where she belongs with the wonderful people who work at the Curry hotel.

I fell in love with Thomas in the first and second books (In the Shadow of Denali and Out of the Ashes,) and I was so excited to read his story in Under the Midnight Sun.

Tayler is a great match for him; they're both adventurous and they share the same interests.

Thomas was at first weary of having a woman in a position held usually by a man.

But the Curry hotel is modernizing every day.

Thomas is surprised to learn Tayler actually knows what she's talking about and soon comes to respect her.

Both Tayler and Thomas have been wounded in the past but neither are ready to give up hope just yet.

They find comfort in each other, but are they worth trusting?

Thomas is a gentle, sweet, caring and kind soul.

He was 17 in the 1st book, and it was amazing to watch him grow throughout the 2nd book and become the great young man he is in this book.

Tayler was also very great! I was so happy to welcome another great lady from Curry into my heart.

My only dislike about Taylor was that she had a great many accomplishments and she didn't hesitate to share them.

This story has villains you can hate and a hero and heroine you can fall in LOVE with!!

The book was hysterical, heart-warming and just all around wonderful! (a Kimberley and Tracie trademark)

I 1000% recommend this book!!

But I would also definitely read the 1st and 2nd book before the 3rd so that you can enjoy the full awesomeness and all the inside jokes I so loved.

This series will make you fall in love with God and Alaska.

I am so, so sad to see this series end, but just because all the words have been written does not mean the story has ended.

These characters will forever live in my heart and many, many others hearts.

So you see, a book never really ends, because it becomes a part of our souls.

Shadow of Denali, (the first book in the series) was the first book I'd ever read by Tracie and Kimberley. I FELL IN LOVE.

My library has tons of Tracie's books but not Kimberley's, so I rented like 5 or more of Tracie's books every 2 weeks. I devoured them, (sometimes reading one a day!)

I fell in love with amazing characters set in amazing places!

I've since had the privilege of reviewing several books for Kimberley and I've fallen in love with her beautiful, heartwarming stories as well.

Both of these women are such amazing and caring ladies; I'm honored to review for them!

This story like I expected was AMAZING!

In the Shadow of Denali is the reason I fell in love with Alaska in the first place.

Kimberley and Tracie write such amazing and vivid descriptions of the beautiful scenery found in Alaska. It makes my soul feel like I need to go there. And I will, Lord willing, one day!

Once again, I was so happy to go one last round with the great people of Curry.

I was so happy to welcome old characters back into my heart and welcome some new ones too.

I 1000% recommend this series, you can't find a better one.

Sometimes the best books are the hardest to review. There are so many things that I loved about this story. The characters were amazing and genuine. So easy to relate to and care for.

The writing style of Tracie Peterson is so smooth and covers realistic situations. Kimberly Woodhouse is new-to-me but I'm sure she contributed greatly to increase my reading satisfaction. One can't help but get lost in the story. I think what I enjoyed most about this particular book is the real-life struggles that people go through. The way the authors present the issues and show the reader good Christian ways to get through such situations is exemplary. Tracie is blessed with the ability to share her faith in Jesus through her writing. I can't say enough about how her stories touch my heart.

I'm saddened to say good bye to these wonderful characters, especially Thomas. He sure came a long way from the days when he left the orphanage. The setting for this story was exceptional. I've never been to Alaska but feel as though I had a quick visit through these pages.

This novel can be easily read as a standalone but I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series. You won't want to miss anything. I truly loved this book and all the thoughts above are from my heart. Although I was awarded a copy of this book through the publisher it has no bearing on my review.

Tracie Peterson is not an author I usually pick up, but I have enjoyed her Alaskan series from the early twentieth century. With an interesting scenery and reoccurring characters, Under the Midnight Sun is an wonderful addition to the series. The story moved at a nice pace and kept my attention the whole time. I enjoyed watching the heroine do a job that wasn't popular for women during the time period. The romance didn't move too fast. It plowed a long slowly, allowing the hero and the heroine to fall in love naturally. Overall, Under the Midnight Sun, is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours with the wonderful outdoors under a warm blanket. I enjoyed this novel. Fans of Karen Barnett should pick this up.

I received a complimentary copy of Under the Midnight Sun by Tracie Peterson from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my ow

Each book in this series just kept getting better and better! Every character that was introduced into this series just added to the already interesting and lovable family that made up the Curry hotel. This one starts with some suspense and stirred up my righteous anger pretty quickly! I wasn't sure if I'd be interested in a character who was a female botanist, but I really liked Taylers character and how she fit right into with the rest of the characters from the previous books. The faith based themes were strong in this one and focused on how since we are forgiven by God, we should also forgive. I'm not sure my forgiveness would have flowed as freely in a few of the situations these characters faced but I really loved the message in this book. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for a clean and faith based series.

Tayler is being pushed into marriage with a man she can’t stand by her mother. After her father’s death everything went wrong, her brother was cut out of the will, her mother changed into a tyrant and Tayler decides the only way to get out is by taking a job in Alaska telling no one where she is going. Of course she decides to be fair and tell her mother which makes the man show up in Alaska, meanwhile the man she has fallen in love with has problems with teenage girls at the resort where they work.

A Christian book set mostly in Alaska. All the main characters are saved and profess their love for Jesus on nearly every page. While I am a Christian, I found this book beyond annoying. Also the story was weak and unbelievable. A family rift about money, gangsters, etc. I have read so-called Christian books many times and often enjoyed them -- this was not one of those.

Tracie and Kimberly are the most amazing authors ever!!
I was eagerly awaiting for this story to come out and I was not disappointed!!
I enjoyed watching Thomas turn into the young man I knew he could be. He has learned some life lessons along the way. Some were hard and some were experience as well. Just becAuse one person lied about everything doesn't mean the next one will. Thomas soon learns this.
Tayler is well ahead of her time as most young women still love the elite group and are still too much in the last century where women were expected to lean on the men instead of going their own way. Her mother and Emerson learn that Taylor is special. And this is what they cannot understand.
I love that Taylor know her own mind and loves to work. She soon makes friends along the way.
I would love to see Alaska someday.
This is what I love about these ladies writing. I'm able to go there and in my imagination I can see what the people are doing and hearing their conversations etc.
I did not like Emerson!! Emerson is a spoiled rich brat. But of course that is the way his parents raised him. He is trouble from the very beginning . I think you'll know which way the story will end so I'll not say anything more lol
Oh and we can't forget our beloved Mrs.Johnson God rest her soul. Poor woman.
I'm saying this because she has hardened her heart and is afraid to love. But I think with his help and some healing along the way, she will be ok too.
She's my most favorite character. Along with other readers I had to get to know her too. Underneath she's a softie I love her like my own mother.
I strongly recommend this book. It's a part of a series so you'll want to read the first book In the Shadow of Denali.

UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN is the third and final book in this dynamic dual's series, The Heart of Alaska, and fans will want to read In the Shadow of Denali and Out of the Ashes first as they have continuing characters. In this long-awaited story of the sweet bumbling boy fans have grown to love, Thomas has a few more challenges to face.

Tayler is running, and with a masculine name in a time period where women were only beginning to find rights, she is hired where she wants to be but they assume she's male until she arrives. She has to prove herself which becomes harder when her past follows her.

An awesome faith message, this book had me closing it with a sigh of contentment. I absolutely loved this whole series, but this book outshone them all. Bravo, Woodhouse and Peterson.

I’m a Christian, and I appreciate books that are positive toward people of faith; however, I get weary of books that feel preachy. While I liked the setting of the book, the plot was predictable, and it was more about telling than showing. I found myself skimming more than savoring.

Unless you read a lot of fiction, you may not understand getting attached to fictional characters....but it happens, especially with a series. In the first book of this trilogy, the authors introduce the then late teens Thomas, a likable clumsy and gangly orphan. He had a crush on the main female character of book #1, but she had other romantic interests, and he was like a brother. The authors may not have planned it, but Thomas became the most liked character of the series, not just by me, but by other readers. This.....finally....is his story.

Words can be overused at times, and some words used to exaggerate. Awesome may be a word that is overused, but is not an exaggeration for this book. It is no surprise, as this was a great series.

What's to like?

The characters:

There is the already mentioned Thomas, who has been a focused on in the other books, but becomes one of the two main characters in this story. He has to be the most likable person in these books, and there have been several. Then there is the female protagonist, Tayler, trying to make it as a woman in a man's world, and getting push-back from the young college graduate, Thomas. The budding attraction between these two who rub each other wrong for a lot of the time is enjoyable and humorous.

Others from the previous two books are back, including the grumpy head of the hotel kitchen, Mrs Johnson, and her two would be suitors.....whose antics had me laughing out loud.

The suspense:

This isn't suspenseful as the books I usually read, but it does have its suspenseful moments and its not-so-nice guys making an appearance. I always enjoy that in a book.

The romance:

I may be a bachelor, but I am a romantic at heart, and have come to enjoy romance in a book, as long as it is done right and not overly gushy or unrealistic. There were actually three romances going on in this book, one that was downright hilarious (mentioned already). The main one involved the hero and heroine of the story, and it was also humorous at times, and very entertaining. I admit I was cheering on Thomas, and hoping and figuring he would get the girl. Spoiler: he does.

Christian content:

I have never understood Christian fiction authors who avoid Christian content, or readers who don't like it - and both exist. Woodhouse and Peterson are not afraid to go there, and they go there very well in this book. The main takeaway in that area from this book is forgiveness. Via a fictional preacher, they tackle that subject well enough that I had to say "ouch". It is an area I need help in, and am undoubtedly alone in.

Plot and setting:

This book and series was set in the early 1900's at the Curry Hotel, an actual hotel near a railroad and Mount Denali. The authors did a tremendous job of describing the hotel, mountain, and other areas. I feel it is a mark of a great author who can paint a great picture with words and cause the reader to feel they are stepping into the story and seeing what the fictional characters are seeing. And that happened in this book, and the previous two. It caused me to wish I could visit that area some day.

The Heart of Alaska was a great read, and a true treat to enjoy. I was sad to see it end, but Under the Midnight Sun brought the series to a truly great and satisfying end, and left the recurring characters in a great place to end the book. I definitely recommend this book, and the whole series.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Alaska in 1929 is an unusual setting for a historical novel, which made this one all the more interesting. I would love to be able to spend time there in person – not just in the stories I read about it!

Tayler had a heart for God, and yet she struggled with the changes that had come over her life since her father had died. Changes that eventually led her to flee to Alaska without telling anyone where she had gone. I really appreciated her sensitivity towards God and thought it was sweet when, during a sermon, she was so taken by the truth being shared that she began to pray and focus on what she heard so that she missed hearing the rest of the message that was shared!

Thomas is apparently a returning and beloved character from earlier books in the series. There are enough details about his backstory here (presented in an appropriate manner without being an info dump) to make me feel like I wasn’t missing anything as I read this. Though he was slightly awkward around Tayler, he was quite charming. I loved the way he cared so much about her and her reputation that he made a point of never allowing the two of them to be alone together.

A strong spiritual thread ran through the story emphasizing the need to make God the focus of our lives, seeking Him more than anything else. This was handled quite well and in a way that didn’t seem forced or preachy.

The story was told from the viewpoints of quite a few different characters, not just Tayler’s and Thomas.’ Most of them were necessary as this was not just about the two of them – there were actually three romances in the making. This was done well, without making me lose track of who was who despite the fact that I didn’t have the opportunity read the story straight through.

There were a couple of situations in the story that seemed a little far-fetched, and the ending was slightly overdone, but these things didn’t detract from the story enough to earn more than an eye-roll from me. The story was enjoyable and just what I needed.

A Review of " Under The Midnight Sun" by Tracie Peterson & Kimberley Woodhouse
"The Heart of Alaska"--Book Three

For those of you who have read Books 1 and 2 of the "Heart of Alaska" series, this Book 3 will indeed be one that you will want to read also. For those of you who haven't yet read this series, hopefully this review will inspire you to do so, for this book and those previous in this series are definately page turners that are full of adventure, romance, godly inspiration, and life events that we can all relate to, plus readers are given a chance to learn about the beautiful state of Alaska and it's wonderful nature and scenery, like the once thriving Curry Hotel and the hightest mountain peak in North America, Denali-"the High One" (Although, in the setting of this story of 1919, Alaska was not yet one of the USA states. It didn't become a US state until 1959)

In this Book 3 "Under The Midnight Sun" we journey along the with Tayler Hale on her trail of life that is full of adventure quite unlike that of women living in 1919 high society. Tayler is more of a "tomboy" than a social butterfly, much to her mother's unliking, yet encouraged by her father, she becomes a very learned Naturalist who is independant, preferring to work instead of rely on her family's fortune.

Though Tayler is faced with dealing with a tragic turns of events in her family, whom she always held dear, and with a fiance whom proved un-faithful, she remains strong in her faith and relies on God's strength to carry her through difficult days and relationships that threaten her future.

It is inspiring to read of her devotion to Christ and her faithfulness to prayer and trust in the Lord's leading as Tayler let's nothing stop her from moving towards the doors of opportunity that God opens for her.

I hope you will choose to read this book to find out where God leads Tayler and to experience the people, places and relationships He brings into her life, ultimately for good, as He always does for those who trust in Him and seek His guidance.

I received this book as a free gift from Tracie Peterson, for winning one of her contest's on Facebook. I was not obligated to write a positive review, but I chose to do so because I really enjoyed reading this book.

This was a fun, easy read. While I didn't ever really feel transported by the setting, all of Mrs. Johnson's food in the book made me hungry. This is the final book in a trilogy, and while it can be read on its own (voice of experience), I think it would have been fun to have already read and had in my mind all the history of the characters from the first two books.

Once I got started in this book, it was a really quick and easy read for me. Everything flowed along at a good pace throughout most of the book. The characters were fun to get to know, and I felt they were relatable. With this being the final book of the trilogy, there were references to the happenings in other books, but this was mostly seamless.

There were three romantic threads in the story, one of which was nice, but felt a little obligatory/unnecessary. There were also multiple proposals in the book, which felt rushed. I was afraid a few times throughout that one of the couples would hold a grudge over a misunderstanding in the typical romance trope fashion instead of talking about it, but thankfully that didn't really happen.

I was a little surprised at how much faith content was in this book. Most of the time, I feel like authors just hint at big overall truths, which works for me, but this book explored some practical applications of truth and how to live like a Christian person should live. I actually really liked that, and it didn't feel overbearing. Main themes included loving others, forgiving others, focusing on God, and mending relationships. Overall, the story was enjoyable.

**Content: Many mentions of a man flirting/carrying on with other women while engaged (pretty mild). While most of the references in this book were mild, there was a significant development in the story where a woman claimed that she was "in the family way" and accused an innocent person; the same woman was very flirtatious and inappropriate throughout the parts of the book she was in. A few kisses, not described in detail; a man reminds himself that he has committed to stay pure until marriage; a woman is described as having a curvy figure; a man thinks a woman is beautiful and tries to memorize her (not intended to be creepy, but still sounds a little creeperesque); several mentions of protecting a woman's reputation.

I'm so thrilled that Thomas finally got his love story! Without spoiling any of the other wonderful lovey moments, I'm overjoyed that he wasn't the only one. The saddest thing about finishing this novel was that it was the end of the series and I'm not ready to let all of the wonderful characters go. The authors have stated that each of the books in this series can be read as standalones if you want, and while I agree they could, if you fully want to be able to appreciate this last one for what it is then I'd recommend starting from the beginning.

It didn't take me long to adore Tayler's character. My heart went out to her as she struck out on her own with no real support system behind her. Being not only a woman but a short woman in the wild landscape of Alaska, made it that much more difficult for her to be taken seriously. As someone even shorter than her, I resonated with many of the "short girl" sentiments and actively cheered her on.

If there was ever a villain that made my blood boil, Emerson is certainly one of them! I tried valiantly not to wish harm on him so that he couldn't hurt Tayler. I may or may not have found myself actually praying for him that he needed to find Jesus before remembering he wasn't a real person. 😂

I think my favorite thing about this entire series was how the people of Curry evolved into a real family. Isn't that one of the beautiful things about the family of Christ? While Jesus is the only one who can truly heal our broken hearts, we are given fellowship with others as a gift as well. Thomas was an orphan, Mrs. Johnson lost her whole family, Cassidy lost her mother, and even more broken relationships existed. Yet through faith in Christ and a whole lot of encouragement, the family that was created was a beautiful picture of what love is all about. <3

I honestly don't think I can recommend this series enough. This is one that I know is going to stay with me for a very long time. I never thought I could read a book that would make me love the setting of Alaska, but I've found a series that has done just that. (Although, I'm sure it helps that the stories took place in the summer months). If you haven't read it yet you need to go remedy that.

The third installment in the Heart of Alaska series, Under the Midnight Sun, takes us back to the Curry Hotel where we revisit such beloved characters as Cassidy, Alan, and Mrs. Johnson. This time, the authors, Terri Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse, focus on Thomas, the beloved orphan who has now grown up and returned from college. Struggling to find his place in the world, Thomas finds that his growing discontent leaves him with a lot of questions. When new hire, Taylor Hale, arrives, Thomas becomes frustrated that she is assigned as a new guide in the Alaskan wilderness. As for Ms. Hale, Thomas' hesitation is nothing new. Having worked in the National Parks system for years, she's used to living in a man's world. But proving herself as a guide is nothing compared to what she faces if she returns home. Hiding from an unfaithful ex-suitor, Taylor struggles to overcome her past and forge a new life. Can Taylor and Thomas overcome their differences? Or will Taylor's past catch up to her before she can open her heart? And what changes are in store for our other beloved friends at the Curry Hotel?

Peterson and Woodhouse have done it again with the third, and final, book in the Heart of Alaska series. With so many wonderful characters, they continue to bring fresh new storylines while remaining true to the first two books. Against the backdrop of Alaska, this series introduces to multiple conflicts: against the elements, against others, and again man's own nature. And while the focus is on Thomas' storyline, other plots play well in the background, wrapping up a happy ending for the Curry Hotel. Although I would love to see this series continue, I am happy to say that Peterson and Woodhouse have left me with a content feeling that all is well for our friends in Alaska. I would whole heartedly recommend this book to a friend and am happily looking forward to books written by these authors in the future.

Under the Midnight Sun by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse is the final story in The Heart of Alaska series. Taylor Cole is a naturalist and guide at Yellowstone National Park. She returned home after her father passed away to console her mother, but her mother has dedicated herself to Hale Industries. Mrs. Hale does, though, continue to pressure her daughter to marry Emerson Pruitt to whom she became engaged to ten years prior. After discovering his cheating way, Taylor called off the engagement three years ago. Taylor returns to the job she loves at Yellowstone. When she gets a letter from Emerson stating he is coming to fetch her, Taylor decides it is time to disappear. With the aid of her boss, Taylor obtains a position at the Curry Hotel in Alaska Territory. Thomas Smith has recently graduated from college and returned to the place and people he loves at the Curry Hotel. With a summer full of tourists, Thomas is happy they have hired a new guide to aid Mr. Bradley and himself. They are unprepared for diminutive Taylor who is determined to prove that she can handle the job. Thomas had a bad experience in college with a young woman and it makes him leery of trusting Taylor. The summer will prove to be challenging for the people who live and work at the Curry Hotel. Thomas and Taylor will need to keep their wits about them if they are to navigate through the difficulties that lay ahead of them.

Under the Midnight Sun is a complex and multifaceted novel. I thought is was well-written with a good flow. The transitions between characters is smooth. I found the story captured my attention and held it. There are multiple characters with Taylor Hale and Thomas Smith being the main focus. We do get to catch up on Colette, Margaret Johnson, Allan and Cassidy Brennan with their busy twin boys, Pastor Wilcox, and Jen-Michel and Katherine. I like that the authors featured a strong female character who has gone to college and is in an unusual profession. I recommend reading the book in The Heart of Alaska series in order. I have enjoyed watching Thomas go from a gangly and clumsy boy to a confident adult with a strong faith in God. Colette has settled into life at the Curry Hotel and finds herself attracted to Dr. Reilly. Margaret Johnson, the cook for the Curry Hotel, finds herself with two suitors much to the staff’s amusement. Can Margaret open her heart to a new love? The Christian element is strong in Under the Midnight Sun as our characters pray for guidance and seek the counsel of Pastor Wilcox. There are scripture references and discussions about faith (forgiveness, following God’s path for our life, prayer). I enjoyed the beautiful descriptions of Alaska (I would love to visit). I am giving Under the Midnight Sun 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). There are recipes from the Curry Hotel at the end of the book. The ending will leave you with a smile on your face (it is cute and romantic). Under the Midnight Sun is an engaging historical novel that has well-developed characters, intrigue, romance, suspense and humor.

This is a story of love and its role in setting life's priorities. It is a story of how the love of God and the love of money impact lives in extremely different ways. It is a story of family, both biological family and family built through an even deeper bond, a shared love of Christ. In my devotional reading time recently I read that in today's society many live as if their prayer would be, “Give me this day my daily thrill.” This story reminds us that the greatest thrills come through times of worship, time spent in God's creation, and time spent with the ones we love.

While readers who started at the beginning of The Heart of Alaska series likely see this as the continuing story of Thomas Smith, for me joining this series in the third installment, I see it as the story of Tayler Hale, in which Thomas plays a major role. Thomas, raised in an orphanage and then put out to make his own way at age thirteen, knew no family before coming to work at the Curry Hotel in his native Alaska. Tayler Hale, raised in a close knit family, until it fell apart following her father's death, felt abandoned until she ran away to her new job at the Curry in an effort to escape being pulled down by her collapsing family. Both Thomas and Tayler found strength and courage within the family of believers who took them in and loved them. Both demonstrated the remarkable ability to forgive that comes from truly appreciating Christ's work on the cross.

I recommend Under the Midnight Sun to those who long to see Christianity in action. May we be inspired to seek ways to become more like Christ. I appreciate receiving this copy from Bethany House through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.

I have been a huge fan of both of the authors for quite a while so when I saw they were writing this series together I was very intrigued. I didn’t think they could be better than they already were but boy was I wrong! Ms. Peterson and Ms. Woodhouse are a dynamic duo writing a series that is sure to please readers of most ages.

This book has everything that warmed my heart. From the wonderful characters, the rugged and beautiful description of the state of Alaska to the exciting storyline, the authors made me feel as though I was right there with everything that took place throughout the book. It was easy to love and admire Tayler Hale as I watched her become more independent and embrace what made her happy. I couldn’t help loving Thomas Smith and admired his determination to pursue a better life for himself.

There was only one character that I really disliked and that was Emerson Pruitt but that was due to the authors creating an opportunistic character that was super easy to strongly dislike. There are a whole slew of guests that visit the Curry Hotel along with the staff that we become acquainted with which is a fun and interesting way to discover what the jobs entail and just how hard the work is.
I was expecting one romance but was pleased to see three especially since I liked all of the characters that had romantic feelings towards each other. I also liked the spiritual thread throughout the story with the bits of humor the kitchen staff added. plus the super cute and fun twins!

Although this is the third book in the series, it could be read as a standalone but then you’d miss out on getting to know what the characters went through to get to where they are in, Under The Sun.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Don’t you love a novel series where the setting and characters are so memorable that they live in your imagination long after finishing the final page? “The Heart of Alaska” collection written by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse and published by Bethany House is just such a series, and although “Under the Midnight Sun” is the final saga we will hear from the Curry Hotel family, their stories will long live in my memory!

“Under the Midnight Sun” is a story of forgiveness, the power of overcoming greed and a love of money, and trust in pure love. In addition, it is also a compelling, sweet, and inspirational novel that is well-written and heartfelt. We are introduced to a new resident of Curry, Alaska named Tayler Hale, and watch her story unfold alongside a character we’ve already met and grown to love: Thomas Smith. Additionally, a wide host of secondary characters are intrinsically involved in the story and are a joy to be “reunited” with as we watch their continuing sagas unfold.

One of the most unique aspects about “The Heart of Alaska” series is how the setting of Alaska is at the heart of the entire story. The scenery, the weather, the endless sunny days of summer, the animals and plants, all come to life until it really feels like we are tourists visiting the town of Curry. If you haven’t read the previous novels in the series, I definitely recommend enjoying them first before diving into this final installment. Altogether, “In the Shadow of Denali”, “Out of the Ashes”, and “Under the Midnight Sun” will leave you inspired in your faith, smiling with delight, and hoping to one day visit the wilds of Alaska for yourself!
