Calming the storm inside me was a challenge. Now it's time to face it.

My name is Crimson Jiyuna and I just revealed the truth. To think Homatomashi’s golden girl who was mourned by many, was the culprit for years of growing chaos and crime.

The truth of it all is a lot to handle and for some, too much to bear. As much as I want to comfort my men, I have to deal with my own wounds that are still raw. Not to mention my growing sympathy for my ex-boyfriend who may not be as evil as I thought he could be.

The clock is ticking and N.R.O. is doing everything in their power to cause calamity in Homatomashi and across the world, but I can't allow them to succeed. White Eyes is what stands in our way and if he's left undefeated, war will be the end result.

With one crystal left for me to retrieve, and my goal to finish N.R.O. once and for all, it's time for me to wrap my wounds and aim to heal my guards for the final fight in this uprising.

Facing this storm will be the most challenging thing I've ever done, but with my men, familiars, family, and the people of Homatomashi, it's time to claim back the peace amongst all races and fight to become victorious.

FACING THE STORM is the FINAL in the Crimson Storm Trilogy

So this on kind of just pissed me off. I like it but I felt like I was missing a lot. It kind of jumped time a lot like a month at one point. I felt like I was reading half a book and that a lot was missing. It kind of just needs more to the story.

2.5 stars In all honesty I am really getting whiplash from the good guy bad guy constant switch up. I like betrayal and intrigue but come on....I’m so tired of hating a character just to end up they are the good guys and vice versa. It was ridiculous. I will say the story did come full circle but it was an emotional roller coaster and not always in a good way.

Through most of this book our FMC is wallowing in her feelings of shame and doubt and anger from her rape. It was a rough read having to wade through all those emotions. It lasts for over 2/3 of the book and was really not pleasant, though I think the author had a good point when she pointed out the character’s thinking the FMC would get over it faster just because they believed she was touched and hurt by a girl. It was infuriating. Then at the end it was for the FMC to have to go through seeing’s day hearing about what her tormentor went through I just wanted to scream NONE of this is ok! Grrr I just didn’t like how the reader was made to feel pity for Erica and what she went through after what she had done it was just awful.

The ambiguousness of this book, like the author couldn’t really decide who the bad guys or good guys were and changed her mind at the end really unsettled me and made the book less enjoyable for me.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Absolutely amazing!! The finale to Crimson's journey meets all expectations and more. Not only do we get the characters we already love but we get some heavy emotional stuff after the last book. On top of that is the growth of her powers that need training. Getting it all done in time leads to some mind blowing twists including that explosive ending that answered so many questions it was unreal. Excellent writing that gives us a world to fall into. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars!

This book had as many twists and turns as the others but by the end it felt a bit anticlimactic. I’m hoping the next book will set this to rights.

There are 1-star books reading which is like eating clay, a waste of time you'll end up regretting.
And there are 1-star books reading which is like eating poison or crushed glass, like getting punched in a gut, you'll end up wishing these books never existed.
Unfortunately this series is firmly in the latter camp; a first such book in all my ten years on goodreads. Other reviews were promising a sweet cake, so I started reading it to unwind, but it turned out that the cake has a poison + crushed glass filling.

What I thought I will get: a light and sweet reverse harem romance.
First book: weirdly heteronormative, a bit ableist, with a tolerable dash of toxic masculinity (I guess these were the red flags), but overall light and sweet and romantic enough.
Second book: main plot event is rape. This is what content warnings are for except this book has none. Must be fun to be a rape survivor reading some light romance to relax and getting full-on graphic rape in your face, with the second half of the book spent on victim's recovery from rape. And that's not all; main plot event is also homophobic. And it's not a homophobic rape; it's much worse.
Third book: the entire book is basically an extreme unironic transphobia. I wanted to read some light romance, not a pamphlet by JK Rowling. If I wanted the latter, I would just open twitter or read whatever latest shit Trump is spewing.

This series just makes its contribution into moral panic and hate against gay and trans people; and also it punches you in a face with a graphic rape scene and a full book length of recovery from it. I'm not saying books about rape should not be written; but readers should be aware of what they're signing up for, and sure as hell these books should not reuse the hateful tropes used to further marginalize marginalized minorities.
This series spends a lot of time to show how the main character is discriminated against and treated like shit for who they are. For gay and trans people, being discriminated against and treated like shit and even murdered for who they are is everyday lived reality. This series adds its voice to everybody who treat gay and trans people like shit.

I can only hope that the author was not actively on purpose queerphobic, but rather ignorant and grew up in unhealthy anti-queer propaganda atmosphere. I can only hope that she since realized her bigotry and the harm she'd done. But I won't be able to bring myself to read any of her other books regardless.

Detailed plot overview (only relevant parts) with spoilers below; CW: rape, child sexual abuse, homophobia, transphobia, ableism

Crimson Jiyuna has had a rough time lately. Inheriting another's essence and powers, discovering her own true self and powers, betrayals, falling in love. Now she's been kidnapped, tortured, and sexually assaulted. She has deep wounds but there's not much time for healing. She has to reveal the truth of what she knows to her men, she needs to be there for them if possible with her own emotional scarring, and they all must be ready to take on the NRO before the chaos and crime destroy their country. Time is running out, White Eyes has his end game in sight. Crim has to find the final crystal and learn how to use all of her powers while facing the emotional damage she suffered at Erica's hands if she is to help her men. And the hits just keep coming. When it becomes too much for Crim to handle, her men, including her not so ex, ex and her familiars are there to prove that good still exists and that she is very much loved. This is her biggest challenge yet, but the rewards of peace for the land and love for herself will be worth it.

While I enjoyed this book I did have some issues with it. I felt like Aki was favored way too much for an RH. The balance was off for this book. The men were not as individually distinctive in this series other than Malachi but in this book, it was even more pronounced. Quill, Itsuki, Yoshi, and Haru barely got any significant time. However, James did. Mr. Bi-Polar featured way too much for me. He served a key role to the story but the fact that he lectured the guys on how they were with Crim struck me so very wrong. He was AWFUL to her when they were together. His reasons were not good enough. Sorry, not harem-worthy. Also, the major betrayal in this book didn't make sense to me. Why? I needed to understand. Finally, the great reveal of the torture felt forced. The original torture and sexual assault were plenty for emotional damage. This became more of a condemnation of society's expectations and prejudices. It was all just too much for me. Not everyone has to be facing some inner struggle, some people can just be bad. The same goes for last minute changes of heart. There doesn't always have to be a lesson on how the world should be.

I think this book had many lovely aspects. I love the culture and the beautiful descriptions. I think there is still much more story to be told.

Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review

What to expect with this book is a loaded question. Knowing this was the last book in this series was a bitter pill to take. As there was so much potential and honestly how could Wilson do that to us. She has thrown so much at this series and particular Crimson our lead. Crimson has become quite a warrior and takes a woman like that to deal what has happened. It hasn’t been for the fainted hearted to say the least and I wouldn’t blame her if she wanted to lick her scars and spend some time in her own shell.
This book doesn’t hold back as when we picked were left off and know that things aren’t perfect. It’s raw and the wounds are obvious to everyone characters and readers alike. There some painful memory that even readers will be surprised by . This book may destroy your heart and reassess everything you thought you knew.
Facing the Storm was obviously going to mean a lot was going to happen. The events of the last two book were significant and changed the course of this series. It was going to be a battle ground. There was obvious quest at hand but Wilson made sure to balance things and allow readers to see a more fun side to the guys .
It’s hard story to take in because of the conclusion of the last book. I think Wilson knew that and tried to thrown everything at this book to soft the blow. Obviously some parts were better than others in my eyes though it was good rounded book. It’s a good book because it going to polarise people, as everyone is going to draw different conclusions about this book.
It’s changed the way you think about this set of characters and their world. It’s not easy decision but I’m still in the loving team even though I wanted to express serious frustration at times about certain things. You can’t help that because Wilson is a genius and I think did this justice given the way things have ended.

I can’t believe it’s over!

I have to admit that I’m shocked I took to this series as much as I did. I found the first book when I was in a RH phase, and when I first started it I was nervous I wasn’t going to take to it. See I love fantasy book, PNR, UF, I just love them, but I have a really hard time with names. I’m the worst with names in real life so when you give me a lot of names that aren’t familiar to me and are difficult for me to pronounce I have a hard time, I normally quit. But I felt like the author did such a good job with breaking down longer names into nicknames that were easier for me, and I felt like the author spent a lot of time building the culture in this book and it’s amazing.
That being said, I don’t LOVE this ending. I wanted to, and I still enjoyed it, without a doubt I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it like I did the first two books. Book 2 ends on a hard event, one that really rocks Crim, one you know is going to take a long time for her to recover from, and is obviously going to affect the way her relationship is with the men in her life. I felt like really the first half of the book was great. I was so heartbroken for Crim, but also so in awe of Aki, how amazing he was with her. All the guys really, you can feel how much they love her. There is one scene in the bathroom towards the beginning that is just so heart wrenching, but I loved how the author made me feel alongside the characters.
As with the other books there is a lot of intrigue and suspicion and surprises and betrayal, all trying to put and end to the NRO and bring peace. I honestly felt like a lot of that plot line was not as developed as much as I wanted it to be. I felt like there was so much amazing work poured into the character development and I wish the underlying plot line had the same amount of depth. I honestly felt like it was rushed, it felt a little unsatisfying at the end, like it was wham bam and done.
But overall I loved the series, and I think I’m going to be continuing on with this author in the future.

I enjoyed the first two books in this series. They are well written and an interesting and captivating story. A mc who has to deal with a lot of bad things in her life and seems to mostly be handling it. Getting out of a crappy relationship to find wonderful guys who cherish her. There aren’t many grammatical errors. The writing style takes a little getting used to, but once I adjusted I felt like the style and word choices added to the idea of the story being told by someone who didn’t speak English as a first language.

On this book, however, I lost interest to a point that I didn’t finish reading it. I understand some tragic things happened to the main character (which is one of the things that drew me to this book), but the 1/3 of the book I read was a pity party of “why am I so weak”. I’m all for a realistic recovery period from a traumatic event, but when it’s all I’m reading it’s easy to start losing interest. I also had a big problem with all the character flip flopping. People we thought were good ended up being bad, people we thought were bad ended up being good. I think one big plot twist, great! That’s fun and I didn’t see it coming. But when everything that’s been established up to this point is suddenly flipped upside down it’s frustrating. *warning. Here come some specific spoilers* In the beginning Storm is great. We have a chance to meet her before and after she dies and she seems genuine and kind and thinks to herself that if she weren’t dead she could be friends with the mc. But by the third book she was the lead shareholder of the criminal organization that killed her. I didn’t think criminal organizations had ceos. And she was only pretending to love the men she died to keep safe? And why did they kill her if she was in charge? Maybe that one would have been answered if I had finished the book. It feels so much like halfway through the author changed her mind about how the story should go.

Spoiler free, as always! This trilogy was one of the first by this author that I had the pleasure of picking up. It has remained one of my favorites this entire time, through every twist and character plot, and to be quite honest – I simply was not ready for it to be over. I adore the characters, the world, everything about this entire series so much that the very idea of it ending is almost painful. While I readily admit that I often get attached to characters and book series, this time…This series, this is one I really, really hate to say goodbye to. This book is a stunning, absolutely fantastic finale to the trilogy, giving Crimson and her men the “send off” they deserve – it isn’t cut down, shortened, or in any way disappointing. I could not put it down. The author painted each scene in vivid detail, answering questions and giving redemption in one fell swoop. Much like the rest of the series, this book is not all rainbows – there is vicious darkness, violence, and it might be triggering for some, but I found the author handled it incredibly well, and it built the story, instead of causing the story to stutter around it. I absolutely recommend this book, especially if you’ve read the first two in the series.

Editing & formatting issues (minor spoilers)

Really enjoyed the first book in this series and the second one was good despite the editing issues detracting from it, but the editing and formatting in this book really affected my ability to read. There were whole paragraphs without spaces and then random spaces in middle of words. Dialogue was formatted horribly that had to read some sections a few times to work out who was talking. The story in this book though was lacking. Much of it touched on assault yet after months of having an aversion to touch one magical night with one of her men causes the FMC to be essentially healed with no triggers. The whole issue of SA wasn’t dealt with well as by end of book it was more a question of who has never been assaulted. As for the final battle it seemed to suddenly appear and yet still unsure how the enemy was defeated or if they were. There was also a new skill mentioned at the end and that the FMC would use it to help if they could but you never learn if it worked. There were good moments in the story which was often given by the familiars or the relationships between the men. But the other issues with this book seriously affected it and although I’ve given it 3 stars it was only 2.5.

Powerful conclusion to a brilliant series

As if Crimson hadn't already been to help and back again....she STILL having major issues after her kidnapping and attack from Erica. Refusing to say one word a out it, her guys are at a loss. They feel her pain and have no clue how to help. What also makes matters more difficult is Crim hasn't told them everything....indeed she's holding back a crucial part of the puzzle. Sadly the pain she endured from Erica is not all she will endure.....for betrayal of the worst kind is closer than she thinks. Join Crim, her kick butt familiars, her guys....and maybe even James as they hunt the final crystal and hope to put an end to this insanity. In doing so, Crimson becomes the strong, resilient, crazy talented Kitsune she's meant to be....and finds pieces of herself she never thought or dreamed possible. ENJOY!!!! If you like this series then I STRONGLY recommend checking out a few others my Yumoyori Wilson....hounding regret it! Be warned, you get hooked rather fast hehe.

Great concept

Needs work with contradictory plot lines and formatting issues. The premise of this story was what drew me in, but the series has issues. The twists were great concepts, but poorly executed. The FMC's development was clunky, and the overall flow was awkward.
Over and incorrect usage of italics and capitalisation didn't help, neither did formatting issues like unnecessary hyphenation, an exclamation mark that appeared for every double l word in italics (eg all became a! ), and ft became; so after became a;ter. (I'm guessing shortcut combinations). There was also poor paragraph formatting with the dialogue of two or more people appearing in the same paragraph, so it was often difficult to determine who said what.
This series has great potential, the world building is amazing, and the concept and twists are highly original. The poor developmental editing really lets it down. My hope is the series is re-released after it has been soundly edited.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend it to others in its current state.

Bittersweet Ending!

Facing the Storm is the last book in the Crimson Storm Chronicles and as always it’s bittersweet when a series ends. However I’m sure that we will see Crimson and her men in the future as their mission to bring peace continues in a new spin off series. Watch out for it!
This novel is a bit slow however it is intended to be that way. Crimson is so traumatised in the last book that she needs time to come to turns with what happened before she can move forward with her life. Yumoyori creates another great plot twist in this story that surprises the shit out of me but alas things need to get worse before they get better right.
The men in Crimsons life as always are there to help train and support her and we see during this book that their love for her is boundless as they each help her heal.

I really appreciate how the author uses the narratives and dialogue to deconstruct and give commentary on serious issues throughout the series. This commentary isn't super blatant and out of context; it's subtle, and although profound, not super noticeable unless you are super attuned to it.

Usually, this kind of commentary in a novel sounds apart; it sounds like the author, rather than the thought process of a character. Otherwise, most of the time, if not blatantly obvious, this kind of commentary is so vague/in passing/brushed over that it doesn't really count as commentary.

Wilson managed to do neither, and have the perfect balance. The issues cover mental health, society's stigmas, "outcasts", rape and assault, and more.

One thing I would like to see more of is James' perspective.

wow

So I read the series for the most part but was able to skip through a lot in the second and still understand the gist of everything. The sexual assault and trauma was hard. Painful to read even and realizing how many people were hurt by the same person just wow. I feel like it was hard to read due to many errors and formatting issues. I don’t understand how it was released in such a state, the storyline was good but we never really see her get alone time with a few of the guys. Which is the problem with having such a large Harem. There needs to be balance between them all. It could do with an epilogue or continuation of some sort since all three books were tackling the same issue. I think those who are truly invested in the story would like to see how their lives pan out after all the war stopping was done.

Facing the storm

The ending of a series is always bittersweet for me. I'm glad to have answers to questions from the other books and sad its over.
There was so much healing in this book in the aftermath of both the events and relevations that happend. Crimson and the guys had alot on their plate but they handled it well.
This author is great at writing amazing characters and books but also giving a story the ending it deserves.
I usually like the book ending better when the end shows a scene a few years in the future where everything is great, characters have healed and maybe started a family but this ending was sweet as well.

No spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that.
So what can I say about this book without giving away all the surprises that’s hidden within?
Well I can say this and that is this book is absolutely positively amazing!
Roller coaster ride of emotions as always and so many twists and turns that I actually lost count.
Yumoyori Wilson has created yet another beautiful masterpiece, how she does it I will never know the secret.
But as long as she keeps creating I’ll always keep reading.
So yes I most definitely recommend this book because I think everyone should read it.

Fantastic Series

What a fantastic ride this series has been! I always keep tissues close when reading books written by Ms Wilson, and they were definitely needed! Facing the storm was downright heartbreaking....attempting to recover from her kidnapping and abuse, she’s dealt a massive blow that threatens to completely break her! Thankfully, she has complete love and support from her guys and is able to begin to heal! Can’t believe this series is over....I’ll miss Crimsom Storm and her guys ❤️

This book was Mind Blowing!

Crimson is adapting and healing from what happened in book 2.
We learn who the mysterious White-Eyes is what his role in all of this is. We learn more about James and who's side he's REALLY on.
This book wrapped up very nicely and answered a lot of questions.
But like I said it left an opening for MORE! And I cannot wait until April to read more about Crimson Storm and her Men!

Ok....

So I read the whole series because I thought that once things were explained it would make more sense and wouldnt seem so convoluted. Well that didnt happen, as was the issue with this series there was just too much going on. Too many unnecessary twists , like the ericka story line???? Just huh.....ok it could just be also but it was just too much. The relationship between crim and the guys felt like friends with benefits except for aki and James. Sigh I tried to like this because I love yumoyori but this series just didn't work for me. I'm glad that this was on KU.

Yumo does an amazing job once again! Fantastic end to Crimson's story, for now anyway! To be completely honest the ending made my day! 😊 So much detail and so many things revealed and questions answered. Such an emotional series. One of my favorites from Yumoyori. I love Crim and her guys, her familiars are pretty awesome too. If I could give this series more then 5 🌟 I most definitely would, this series deserves it! Now I can't wait for 2019!

The end!?
What a great finally to this part of Grin’s story. What a rollercoaster of emotions, in this book Grinsom overcame the bad things that happened in the second book, but it didn’t felt rushed and we also see her relationship with the guys growing. We are presented to new people and get surprises from the old ones.
The familiars are super Kawaii and I would love to see more of them.
Can’t wait to what will be coming next.

I was a bit up and down in this book while I was reading it and I am between a 3.5 stars to 4 stars. There are moment that I loved and I enjoyed getting Crimson and her guys story more. But I really wanted more of Crim with her guys on an individual level, I really felt that Aki got way too much time and it was almost like they were a couple and the others were just roommates! And don’t get me started on James...I wanted to slap him in book 1 and I wanted him to have to fight more for Crim and he should be behind the others with his time with Crim. I love Crim’s familiars and how they get her through some dark moments..they really have some special moments in this book. And I love her Kitsune...so powerful and shy at the same time! There are a lot of golden moments in this book but I also wanted more and I hope that we get more of these characters in the future and we get to see Crim comfortable, relaxed and happy with ALL of her guys...gosh this lady needs a break from betrayal and danger. But saying all of this I always enjoy Ms Wilson’s books and I come back for more and more every time, so I recommended this series and am excited for more!!

Perfect Ending!
This book concludes the Crimson Storm series, and boy it was awesome!!! If you’re like me, then you’ll love this book because we reach a perfect conclusion. All mysteries have been solved, we learn the truth behind Storm and many other characters. There were some OMG moments that definitely made me question certain characters, so this book will keep you on your toes! You think you finally get to the bottom of something, but nope! There’s more! But seriously, this book was great and I think it concluded the series perfectly. However, there’s a little surprise at the very end, so maybe this won’t be the end of Crimson Storm and her guys!

I’m sad this series has ended, but I look forward to a new series with Crimson and her men.
This book dealt with some very hard and triggering themes. I think that they were handled with care and treated fairly, and they definitely added dimension to the story.
I don’t want to give away any plot points, but I truly do recommend this series. The world created was gripping, and I’m curious to see how everything will tie together and come to fruition in future series.
