The numbness, the disbelief in what had happened and the fear of what would come next ensured that her every thought was tinged with doubt. Hoping for a fresh start, she’s packed up, said her goodbyes and moved to the small town of Snow Ridge, New Hampshire. Settling down in an old, renovated farmhouse, she plans to focus on the simple things in life. And, in time, she is determined to get back to some semblance of normalcy. But, apparently, that is not going to happen any time soon… The young girl at the local bookstore Bonnie frequents has been murdered. She was one of the few with whom Bonnie has become friendly during her short time in town. And whether it’s her mysterious past, her reserved nature or simply the relative ease in pinning the blame on the outsider, the police have Bonnie at the top of their list of suspects. Now, if she wishes to avoid a prison sentence for a crime she didn’t commit, it appears as if Bonnie is going to have to prove her own innocence. In doing so, she’ll uncover a crooked politician, unveil a hidden monster and unearth a web of secrets & lies that certain residents of the town have spent their lives concealing. And, with a little luck, she may just survive long enough to clear her good name. Book 2: Just when Bonnie Mayberry thought her new life in Snow Ridge was getting back to normal after a horrific case involving a deadly, old man bent on revenge, she is pulled into a second case that wraps her in a web of lies, deceit and...murder! At first, the man’s murder seems straightforward enough. That is, until an influential politician arrives in town demanding that the wife of the dead man be turned over to her for prosecution. But Bonnie soon finds out that this powerful woman is not exactly who she seems to be… In fact, she may not only be the killer, but she just may be planning to take over the world! Book 3: When Bonnie agrees to help locate a missing girl, Bonnie leaves her hometown of Snow Ridge, New Hampshire and hits the road on a mission to track her down. But when false leads and countless mishaps have her traveling up & down the East Coast and mingling with a cast of characters ranging from the Amish to the FBI, she begins to doubt her chances at success. That is, until she finds the girl on a dark & stormy night. And that’s when things really start to get messy… Book 4: After traveling up and down the East Coast in search of a missing girl, Bonnie Mayberry couldn’t be happier to return to normal, everyday life. But, as one case closes, another opens… It begins when a bounty hunter arrives in town just as a heavy fog begins to descend upon Snow Ridge. His tale of a murderous clown, a maniacal banker and a promise to a dying woman seems to be as murky as the misty air. But, as always, Bonnie is determined to help solve the mystery and, despite the danger from thickening fog, she soon finds herself on the road once again. Only, this time, she’s running for her life… Book 5: Just when life is returning to what Bonnie considers her “new normal”,
This author and set of five stories die a death of disastrous editing
The carelessness of nonexistent editing review is not the only sin of this series although it is very tiring trying to get through at least one paragraph without an error. The author does make an attempt to deliver five mystery stories utilizing the same primary characters but she is redundant in delivering their problems, quirks and doubts. However her most grevious sin lays in her penchant to lecture about mores, values, God, virtue and conservative politics.. Overall her mystery genre could be moderately interesting, however as presented with these noted flaws, they certainly were not ready to be published.
Maybe I read too many of this style because I seem to be a bit picky now. A little too childlike in ideas. Law enforcement would never simply hand over a case and ask a lay person for a plan of action. The over use of the word “honey” was a bit annoying. Several editing misses which stopped the flow of the story. Lastly, the continuing self pity of the writer over her divorce while trying to pull off humility did not work.
Did I have high hopes for these books? No. The aim was for some quick and easy reads to wind down with no in-depth thought process needed Poor editing and flimsy plots really let these books down. In places you can see attempts at editing, the corrections are there, I’m parentheses beside the errors. Too frequently there were mistakes made with character names getting mixed up. Little mistakes that could ( should( have been easily rectified. The characters lack depth and ooze with judgement. There was a lack of growth for the characters, unrealistic story lines ( Seasoned Police asking a author for her assistance repeatedly… you can tell they were good people because they had kind eyes /played Christian music) Every book make multiple judgements- ugly dress, ugly outfit, sudden anti abortion comments that came out of left field and didn’t contribute to the story. These books had potential to be more than they delivered.
The protagonist are believable. Some of the villains are a bit over the top. This snow ridge set is not well edited. There are errors in continuity in all of the books. Also the political commentary is a little heavy handed. The last book in the series is the best because the main character has a breakthrough and becomes real
I enjoyed the story line for the most part. The character development was fairly good. However, the obvious lack of proof reading throughout all five stories detracted from the enjoyment of the work. While Ms Lee's writing improved as she progressed through the five books, I won't be reading anymore of her work because of the need for editing.
These stories have potential but there is to much of the same story in each book. The relationship between Sarah and Bonnie is to sappy and is repeated nauseatingly in every book. Give it a rest already. You can read each book but characters seem to appear stagnant where they are and their is no growth to the story line. It doesn’t progress is a series should.
This book has no redeeming qualities - poor plots, sermonizing conversations, appears no one read and edited grammar and spelling mistakes, unbelievable characters.
My pet peeve is reading a story with wrong words, wrong punctuation, wrong tenses, missing words, and extra words. Stories were good but proof reading and editing is horrible! Some of the sentences didn't make sense. We lost Thorn somewhere halfway through! Loose threads.
I enjoyed the story line and the continuity between the stories. However, the editing needs to be reviewed. It is very disconcerting to come upon so many errors. This takes away some of the enjoyment of reading.
funny mysterious medium-paced Plot- or character-driven? A mix Strong character development? Yes Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? Yes Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated 2.0 stars
Kindle/audiobook (audible) - Body in the bookstore Book 1: 2⭐️a bit too predictable crooked mayor trying to cover for himself and the sins of his father. Vengeful old guy who still hasn’t gotten pasted his son and wife’s deaths decades later.
Body in the snow Book 2: 2⭐️Nola Burrows is going to be the master mind behind the killing of her ex but the killer fucked up and killed her ex husband instead. (Pg 172). Thorne and Sarah? Thorne knows way too much about the people connected to the crime. Oh Burrows and Thorns twin are the distractions. Interesting twist seems a bit out there with a plot that is overly complex almost like it’s trying to be so complex one cannot guess or predict it but just becomes to unrealistic. Corruption seems to be the continued theme to these mysteries.
Body in the Storm Book 3: 1⭐️ again with corrupted law enforcement. Will there ever be a crime that doesn’t surround corruption? Bonnie is starting I get strong feelings for Brent. Damn seems like the agent wasn’t trained well at all if he took the bait like that.
Body in the Fog Book 4: 3⭐️ interesting continuation of this mystery series, this town is very supportive of each other to stand up at gun point. Their actions make Bonnie feel supported and like a true member of the community.
Body in the Woods Book 5: 3.5⭐️ this story was really good, the plot was tough to see along with the outcome. Bonnie and Sarah go down to Georgia to help Bonnie’s friend with a baby. Twists and turns help bring the drama and the ending was surprising.
I really enjoyed these stories and the characters. What adventures and excitement they had. There needed to be more editing done as there are words wrong and names wrong in places. I also thought the Christian message in it could have been less preachy in the way it was presented. It wasn't throughout the book but in certain places, the message didn't seem to fit in by being so wordy about it. I will definitely be reading more by this author though.
I loved this series. Each story was a quick fun read with lots of mystery. It would have been a 5 star but there were a few too many spelling & grammar errors. I had to go back and read a sentence (or more) pretty often to figure out what going on or find that it was another character speaking (not the name given). Overall I still highly recommend the series.
Emma Lee is a refreshing and gifted author, with real true to life characters that you will love and some you will detest. Their stories will warm your heart and make you think about humanityI and how others matter in this world that we now live in. HOPE AND LOVE MATTERS.
I enjoyed all the books in this set. There is mystery, violence and love and hope in each story. Bonnie and Sarah are a force to be reckoned with. They fight the evil that tries to destroy with wisdom and faith.
Slow reading, never really got into this series. I read for free from KU but didn't even start the last book. Sometimes you can't say exactly why you didn't like a book because it isn't really a badly written book it just doesn't work.
I really enjoyed this set of murder mystery books. She doesn't stuff her books! By this I mean she doesn't waste words on thing like how many butterflies are in the yard or recipes! I enjoy reading a book that I must bookmark. So I don't miss a word.
This was a good read and most of the time it kept my interest. Sometimes it was a little bit simplistic, but was interesting anyway. I would recommend it to people who enjoy this genre.
The characters were intriguing and the stories engaging. I enjoyed following their journey to becoming whole. They were clean, wholesome stories. It is hard to find books where God and American values are prominent.
Although a few missteps in the books, like saying Brent instead of Guss and not mentioning Sarah's love, Torne again..this is still a fun series with many twists and turns and a lot of heartache and love mixed in
Wonderful series I really enjoyed the complexities of the stories. Characters were well written. I'm wondering if there is going to be a continuation of this series, it would be nice.
I loved these characters they immediately drew you in and had you on their side. These were easy reading cozy books to curl up with despite a few mistakes I couldn't quit reading
Good enough plot lines, but really wordy. I got bored and skipped whole needless descriptive paragraphs. And why the silly nicknames for every character? Just ok.
