This collection includes Books 1-3 of the Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides series, Joran, Vadir, and Kash.
Join these three alien males as they go in search of love on the far side of the galaxy, on a primitive planet the resident lifeforms call Earth.
What do you do when your planet runs out of women? Send for takeout, of course.
Joran Joran, Crown Prince of Pyros, needs to claim his mate in order to ascend to the throne one day. The problem? His destined mate isn’t on Pyros.
This book contains a redheaded barista who doesn’t believe in aliens, and a prince who is used to getting anything he wants without having to work for it ... until now.
Vadir Vadir has a business empire to run and no time to spare on frivolous endeavours. So how did he wind up on the far side of the galaxy to claim a mate he never signed up for? A matchmaking queen and a royal decree, that’s how.
This book contains a bohemian blonde with a hell of a right hook, and an interstellar tycoon who is about to learn that the best things in life can’t be bought or sold, they have to be won.
Kash Kash knows he’ll never be allowed to claim a mate. A lifetime of military service has left him too battle-scarred and broken to be considered for the off-world mating project his rulers have created to save their people.
This book contains a hopeful romantic who is giving up hope, and a soldier who is about to discover that love doesn’t obey orders, and it can’t be bound by rules.
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.
To contact her about her books or to arrange end of the world team-ups, you can email her at susanhayesromance@gmail.com
These three short books are interconnected, each one focuses on 1 of 3 best-friends (fiery barista Maggie, free-spirited artist Lisa and self-conscious baker Gwen) and the romances that develop when the women sign up to test a new dating site, not knowing their matches come from another planet, a planet short on women, and so their matches they have come to primitive Earth to find their mates, and thus gain hope for the continuation of their species.
Maggie is matched to Joran, the Crown Prince of Pyros. Lisa is matched to somewhat unwilling interstellar tycoon - Vadir. Last but not least, Gwen is matched to Kash, a battle-scarred soldier who believes he will never gain a mate.
I love myself some interspace/alien romances but for me this collection left me rather unsatisfied. Very, very light reading, it won’t strain the mind. Book one was ok, not overly keen on the second book - skimmed it a fair bit, and book 3 was ok from I can remember.
This trilogy was so darn fun. Escapist, funny, sexy—and, not least of all, Canadian—Hayes has put together a little trio of gems in these novellas. I grinned my way through them.
Joran
Okay, so this was so much fun. Maggie is a barista who has given up faith in things she can't see, hold, or depend on (which is basically a list that includes everything that's not her two best buds, and definitely includes most men). Her pals convince her to try a new online dating site, and there's enough wine in play that she goes with it, and then there's a drop-dead gorgeous man in her coffee shop and they're apparently a "match" and there's a literal spark between them.
Joran left a few things off his profile. First? He's not human. Second? He's not just an alien, he's an alien prince. Third? His species mate for life and that little spark was no random bit of static, it was a species deep genetic bond that just got switched to "go."
And boy was "go" sexy.
The funny is in equal measure to sexy throughout Hayes's novella, and I laughed at the human-alien miscommunications as much as I swooned at the descriptiveness. Also, Joran's alien race is pyrokinetic. So it doesn't just smoulder so much as it sets things on fire.
Getting Maggie to agree to go back and be a princess isn't going to be a cakewalk. And really, if there's no coffee there? That's gonna be a tough sell.
Vadir
Next we meet Vadir, who's basically an intergalactic shipping magnate, and not one to surrender control of his life to anything. Meeting a decidedly boho Vancouver artist as his "match" definitely isn't to be expected, but Lisa is an alluring free spirit. More, she has a knack for drawing people before she meets them, and she trusts her gut when it happens: after all, it's how she met her two best friends in the foster system.
Take one free-spirited human artist who has learned the hard way to avoid controlling men, and one alien businessman with a penchant for treating life as a negotiation for getting his way, and add an unexpected—and undeniable—spark, and you're in for this second, awesome ride in Hayes's turn with the Intergalactic Dating Agency. It's worth the ride.
Kash
Ah, Kash. Kash is probably my fave of the trio Susan Hayes brought to the table for the Intergalactic Dating Agency, if I'm gonna be honest. I love characters who sport scars and have what feels like realistic relationships with them (even when they're bearded alien soldiers capable of bench-pressing small starships).
So, this third visit with the Pyrosians picks up more or less where the last two left things: the ship that brought an alien prince and an alien high-powered business magnate to come score potential mates is in the hands of the head of security, an alien former soldier (and somewhat scarred and dented) named Kash.
He's given up on having a mate—in a world where women are outnumbered seven-to-one by males, his imperfections knock him so far down the bottom of the list that he's just being practical. And he's very by-the-book and practical. And organized. And very bound by duty.
Which is why breaking the rules—and his orders—to go make sure a friend of the two women the aforementioned prince and magnate are mating with doesn't call the police and create a scene is a hard choice. But he goes. And he meets curvy and bookwormish Gwen and...
Zap. The spark. The spark that means they're fated to be mates. The spark that starts off 'the Scorching' (an undeniable mating urge).
Totally not a part of the plan, or his orders, or the mission.
Hayes's awesome humour is on display, the characters are both vulnerable and anxious in their own ways (I really dug that), and I loved—absolutely loved—Gwen's progression through the short novella. There's a tonne of growth and revelation to Gwen in the space of this short time. So much love for Gwen. (I may be biased towards bookworms.)
These first three Star-Crossed books have really been getting me through some rough days, and I'm gonna go grab the next three. They're as fun-and-comforting as the cookies and brownies Gwen bakes.
The series as a whole was fun, light, and quick—and did I mention there are some one-liners that made me laugh out loud?—I read these during a really, really rough patch and I was so damn glad to have them.
Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides Collection - Vol. 1
Three stories of lonely alien male funding their mates. One a prince looking to find his mate so he can be king one day, a businessman order to find a mate and a soldier accent find his mate. Book 1: Joran - the love story of Joran and Maggie. Book 2: Vadir - the love story of Vadir and Lisa. Book 3: Kash - the love story of Kash and Gwen. Great story.
I've purchased and reviewed - separately - each one of Susan Hayes Star-Crossed Mail Order Brides series. When this box set came out, I decided to binge-re-read all three. (I always enjoy re-reading good stories, and Susan Hayes is a favorite storyteller of mine.) By the Fires!! Reading Joran, Vadir, and Kash's mating adventures one after the other made all three even more enjoyable. Details from one book dovetail so seamlessly into another, the personalities of the characters are even more fully developed when showcased side-by-side, and the series plot arc coalesces into one smooth and highly amusing tale of mating adventures on Earth, a planet maybe not-so-new to Joran's people after all. If this is your first opportunity to read the series, you've hit the trifecta. If, like me, you're a re-reader, be prepared for a great new take on a trio of fine alien romances from the InterGalactic Dating Agency and author Susan Hayes.
I really enjoyed these books and I'm glad that I got these three together. while they were each a great short story on their own I felt like they were better as a trio for understanding the whole plot and storyline. Maggie, Lisa and Gwen all share such a connection that it would have been a horrible cliffhanger if the story just left one of them behind while the others went off for their HEA. I think out of the guys I really liked Vadir the best or at least his and Lisa's story simply because I thought it was hillarious that he thought he could write up a contract for a relationship and it was great seeing her show him how that was sooo not going to work. I definitely want to read more in this series.
Whimsical and cute with some laughter and smiles a must. These three short books in one are free in MY and all can be read in a hour or so. Each book is perfect for very light romantic reading on a lunch hour or before bed. I prefer my books with more meat to the storyline and enjoy taking the time to learn the main characters better thru the words and deeds of the writers plot and story. These are fine for shorts but I need more to feed my imagination. Otherwise, I could easily have given a higher rating. If short and sweet are what meets your time to read then these are perfect!
Okay so it’s definitely erotic reading so if that’s not your thing then don’t bother with this.
However, I was easily able to read volume one in an afternoon and while the cheese level was high, it wasn’t infuriating or anything. Some very convenient plot points make it easy to suspend your disbelief.
I didn’t get something as ridiculous as I thought I would but im also not disappointed. I mean, if you were looking for something with some awards or something you wouldn’t be considering this would you? So why not go for the sci-fi romance?
The ladies are in the aliens mind are beautiful and the aliens in the ladies minds are too too hot to be real and that is where the fun starts. The Gods have set everything in place and now it is up to the men to get the mating done right and quick, but we all know how that works out right!fun and games begin
If your in the mood for a sweet, short, sci-fi romance romp then this is something you should snatch up! There's lots of steam, some very befuddled alien men, a few feisty women, and a wacky semi-abduction adventure or two.
I have written reviews of the titles individually, if you'd prefer that. Joran, Vadir, and Kash. They CAN stand alone, but I don't suggest it as they're pretty much one story of three couples. Give em a go!
A series of Alien romances that deals with three human females, all a part of the foster care system that find the loves of their lives. It just so happens that those lives are from another planet and meeting them sets off internal fires with little time for explanations. You will love Gwen, Maggie and Lisa!
I listened to this in the audible version. It was pretty good. They were all slightly different, but still so similar that I found it boring. They are all insta-love/Lust - fated mates ..... Super fast to get through all three. I was able to play games and keep an eye on the super bowl while listening - and I feel like I didn't miss a beat .....
This was an interesting and exciting box set of three female friends who meet their “mates” through a matchmaking service The author created a storyline that holds your interest with humor, hot aliens and a little drama as they navigate finding love Great job Susan
Really loved everything about this whole adventure.
Three friends down on some hard times got drastic to finding great 👍👍 men for themselves. But once they filled out stare crossed survey boy did their lives Change, hot...hot...hot
Short, but sweet. All the ladies are earthlings who sign up on a dating site. The "men" are from a planet far across the galaxy. And they are real hunks. It's got humor, romance, not aliens, and hot sex. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed these stories though they are shorter than I usually enjoy. The author creates distinct characters in each story, and packs them all with a good bit if humor.
I enjoyed this collection and can't wait to get started on Vol. 2. Thoroughly delightful, interesting and exactly what reading about those handsome Aliens should be.
Good, light, very quick fun. I’m glad I read this as the set because I would have been pissed off when the first book ended. Honestly, this had the bones to be a much more epic scifi romance adventure, but also totally sufficed as a light, sugary romance. I’m not mad.
I loved the chemistry between the Alphas and their mates. I loved the story and character development. I was immersed in that world. Thank you Ms. Hayes for a great story. Can't wait to read more.
Volumes 1-3 of this series. Each book is rather short. The three stories work together and show what each was doing during the same time period. Crazy hot stuff (literally…these people can burst into flames!)!!
This book reminded me of why I stopped reading this genre. Too many eye rolling moments for me and too much reliance on the magical bond of being mates 🤷🏾♀️
A little rapey. It’s impossible to make non-consensual alien-induced must-have-sex-or-risk-going-insane/dying situations not seem like rape, because that’s what it is. So long as you’re okay reading that sort of thing, this is an interesting, if unbelievably heterosexual, series.
This was just fine. The smut was there but otherwise kind of disappointed. The aliens were just chiseled men who has fire powers? I was kind of hoping for more alien aliens tbh
