Mama is the most wonderful person in the world, but when a dark cloud drifts in and settles over her, her inner magic seems to vanish. There must be something that can make the cloud disappear...but what? A beautifully illustrated picture book which gently broaches the topic of mental illness and the love within families.
Okay, first of all I am SO SO SO SO SO SO proud of my dear friend Jessica! She totally put herself out there and wrote this amazing book and it's so incredible!
As a woman/mother with depression, I would have LOVED to have this book around when my kids were younger. The child in the book thinks of so many ways to make their mother happy again, but by the end realizes a simple hug goes a long way. The writing is so lovely, gentle and whimsical and the illustrations are so beautiful.
When the print version is released I will be buying copies for my libraries!
This book is beautifully written and the illustrations compliment it perfectly. It opens up conversations about heavy emotions, but does so in a fun, magical way that children can really enjoy. When we finished reading it, I asked my daughter (5 years old) what she thought it was about, and she said; “it’s about sharing love”, which is something we’ve been talking about lately, so it was pretty heartwarming to hear her say that, and to know that she has a good understanding of what this book is about. She also really loves make-believe, so the superhero and fairy were a big hit ☺
This book is so well written, giving a child's perspective on a problem they can't understand but want to help with. Light hearted and full of charming visuals, while still reaffirming that the best help of all is something that can be easily done. I highly recommend this for any family.
LOVED this book. Working in the mental health profession I love how this shows children how they can help someone!— by bing themselves and showing love! What an amazing and tangible thing for children to be able to learn and do. Opens up great conversations for adults to have with their kids.
I love this book! Its sensitive to the topic of post partem depression, yet its also magical and guides kids on a journey. This book would make a great gift for any new mom.
I can genuinely say this is one of my favourite new books. Beautifully written, very well designed and a great illustration style, and with an incredible message for kids. I very much recommend.
