You pay a price for everything you do. Widowed, her dream of starring on Broadway in ashes at her feet, Misty Starr yearns for a happy, healthy, normal life for herself and her four-year-old daughter, Debbie. Settled in Pine Falls, New York, a sleepy little town filled with friendly people, she believes she’s found it and feels safe enough to sing in an amateur theater revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. When Nick Anthony joins the cast as music director, Misty is attracted to the man who stirs up feelings she thought long dead, but can love grow on a bed of deceit? A former concert pianist and secret CIA courier, Nick lives in darkness ever since the accident that killed his wife. The doctors say there’s nothing wrong with his vision, so why can’t he see? Hiding from his former life, he reluctantly agrees to help with the musical and is drawn to the young singer with the voice of an angel. When a mysterious fire destroys her home, Nick vows to keep her and her daughter safe. After one suspicious event leads to another, Nick is determined to protect them from an unknown assassin, but in order to do that, he needs to know her secrets. With his money and connections, he’ll do whatever it takes to save the woman he loves, but does she love him enough to reveal the truth?
Susanne Matthews grew up as an avid reader of all types of books, but always with a penchant for happily ever after romances. In her imagination, she travelled to foreign lands, past and present, and soared into the future. Today, she has made her dreams come true. A retired educator, she now gets to spend her time writing, so she can share her adventures with her readers. She loves the ins and outs of romance, and the complex journey it takes to get from the first word to the last period of a novel. As she writes, her characters take on a life of their own, and she shares their fears and agonies on the road to self-discovery and love.
Susanne lives in Cornwall, Ontario with her husband. She has three adult children and five grandchildren. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys reading, chatting on the Internet with her writer friends, and hearing from her readers.
WOW!! And BRAVO Susanne Matthews!! This book was amazing! I couldn't put it down! It's definitely a five star and then some, I cannot recommend it enough! The dialogue, the details, the development. In Plain Sight is a MUST READ!! I was lucky enough to receive an advance readers copy and I loved it!
I loved the interaction between Misty and Nick. Their love story develops at a nice pace. It was great that the characters in her previous book made and appearance in this one. I look forward to more books by this author!
In Plain Sight by Susanne Matthews Review by Georgianna Simpson
Another wonderful suspenseful romance by Susanne Matthews! If we gave stars, this one would be a 5! This one begins with Misty Starr our heroine living in Pine Falls a small town, actually Misty and daughter Debbie are in the witness protection program and have been relocated a few times. Misty feels a lot of guilt for the deaths of the U.S. Marshalls that were guarding her. She is being hunted by a specific family of the Irish Mob for her testimony that put them away. This last relocation was done by a retired agent named Amos. Amos and his wife Beryl live in Pine Falls and brought Misty and Debbie there to live, provided her with a cover story as the widow of his son killed overseas. This all began years ago and Misty and Debbie (now four years old) are feeling safer. Amos helped her get a small two story house near his, and a job as the elementary school secretary. Her neighbor is Charlotte, a widow also with a four year old daughter Cassie. Micah Jones and his doctor-wife Laura, run the Pine Hill Theater Group and are doing a production of Jesus Christ Superstar, a charity production that annually funds improvements for the local clinic. When someone had to be replaced quickly, friends of Misty talked her into joining the group and when she sang, her voice was a huge surprise to everyone. She’s a bit nervous as she doesn’t feel safe to put herself in the spotlight for fear of being discovered. She reluctantly agrees to be in the production, when her widowed neighbor, Charlotte, says she’ll babysit for Debbie while she’s at the theater. During costuming, she was laughing about the costume they wanted her to wear, saying she looked like a beach cabana. Then Micah and Laura walked in with a stunningly handsome man no one knew. Misty was surprised, but immediately very attracted to him. Micah introduced the man as Nick Anthony and told everyone he was a retired musician and going to help with the music. When she was introduced to him she stuck her hand out but he seemed to just move on and ignored her. She thought him rude, but couldn’t understand why he kept staring at her. Okay, that’s the set up…now comes the truly interesting parts! I don’t do spoilers, because you really need to enjoy reading this wonderfully romantic story. I’ll just give you this: Nick wasn’t rude, he was blind…and yes, he’s also instantly attracted to Misty, by her scent of course, since…he blind! His story is another tragic one that unfolds throughout the telling. Strange and dangerous things begin to happen, and Nick feels he needs to keep Misty and Debbie safe! And he’s just the guy who can do it! How you ask? Read the story, it’s amazing and so heartwarmingly romantic, not to mention the steamy relationship that’s building. Exciting and twisty plotting are the climax of this wonderfully compelling story. As an added bonus we get a visit from Alexis and Jake McKenzie from Fire Angel another wonderful novel from Susanne Matthews, I loved catching up with them. Grab a glass of wine (or two..) and get comfortable (you may be up until the wee hours of the morning because you won’t want to put this down), you’re in for a great read! Enjoy, I did!
Since I don’t want to give up any spoilers and this book is loaded with twists – beginning with a very symbolic title, I will start by saying the writing style is nearly flawless, revealing an interesting plot, written in an alert rhythm. As in “Fire Angel” - S. Matthews’ previous book - character development is impressive and she smartly creates a cameo for Jake and Alexis - the hero and heroine of “Fire Angel” . Unlike the superficial Barbie and Ken perfect prototype duo, Misty Starr and Nick Anthony are credible characters, with very human flaws and traumas, both physical and psychological. By using this technique, the author makes them believable, almost real and the reader sympathizes with them. Caught in the action - methodical and logical, with impeccable descriptions, I could actually see every scene with my mind’s eyes, almost like watching a movie. “In Plain Sight” is a delightful read and S. Matthews didn’t disappoint me, but made me look forward to her future works!
In Plain sight is a great romantic suspense with a hero I feel in love with. The scenes between Nick and Misty had me swooning and fighting back tears…SO SWEET! While the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book and not just because the main character has the same name as me…LOL Grab a copy now. You can thank me later.
This was rather disappointing unfortunately. I liked the characters but something about the writing kept me from losing myself in the story. I was always 'outside' the words if that makes sense. Some aspects as well, were pretty ludicrous if not OTT in the extreme, and spoiled much of the latter part of the story. Also... I know Nick is an artist ( musical, that is) but do men really talk like that? And there was a phenomenal amount of writing all about smells. I ended up skimming over much of that. (descriptions of the same smells can get boring after a while)
It was okay. I would have liked more realism in it instead of the far-fetched ending.
I absolutely loved this book! Nick and Misty are amazing to read about!
Misty used to have everything together, that is until she met Kevin. He changed and when she realized she was pregnant. She was on broadway and enjoyed singing. Things got bad and she had to go into protective custody. It's been years and she has been telling so many lies she doesn't know what is real anymore. She moves to a new place and is making friends. She loves them and enjoys singing in their little musical. However, when the new musician arrives sparks fly. Despite his blindness she is very attracted to him. Can she ever believe she can trust him to keep her and her daughter safe or will she have to run again when something goes wrong?
Nick thought he too had everything together. That is until his wife did the unthinkable and then they get in a car accident and she dies and leaves him blind. However, the doctors says he isn't technically blind it's just him not not getting over the guilt and should eventually regain his sight. He agrees to do the music for this musical and smells something wonderful. He starts to grow accustom to Misty's scent and enjoys her company and listening to her. Things happen for her/to her and he wants to protect her and her daughter. Despite him being blind he has wonderful friends in high places to make them safe.. but can he get her to trust him, stay with him or will she leave and make him broken hearted?
This couple was fabulous to read about. I enjoyed their interaction, their ability to comfort each other, the music, the love/friendship of one another and Misty's daughter as well. I have to say that Nick is certainly a wonderful man and you will fall in love with him. I also enjoyed the friends, community and more in this book as well.
I enjoyed that the characters from Fire Angel made an appearance. I enjoyed reading about them and learning some things about them. I enjoyed that a lot and was very happy for them. :)
Do you love music, acting, love, loss, friendship/love, loyalty, protection, suspense and more? Then this book is right for you!
Wonderful job, Susanne! I loved it!

In Plain Sight Review originally posted at http://satinsheetsromance.blogspot.co... WOW! This was a fantastic story. In Plain Sight is a sweet romance with the right element of suspense which translates into an awesome read. It takes excellent writing skills to be able to capture the reader's attention from the first page and to hold it until the end. The author demonstrated her ability to do just that. I just could not get enough of this book. Susanne Matthews has been added to my list of must read authors.I was totally in love with Nick. He is very caring and protective especially when it came to Misty and her daughter, Debbie. The romance between these two was quite sweet. There were times when I wish I was in Misty's shoes. She is one lucky lady. I liked how the author portrayed Nick and Misty. I found them to be quite realistic as they each had their emotional and physical traumas to deal with and it was easy for me to empathise with them. Debbie was such an adorable little angel and very smart too.I loved how she played on the budding relationship between Nicks' personal assistant and Misty's friend Charlotte. I do hope they get their own story. I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book and I must reiterate this was an awesome read. My advice to you lovers of the romantic suspense genre is to get a copy and read. It will be worth your while.
Misty Starr longs to blend into the upstate New York community of Pine Falls. She’s on her third identity and inside the witness protection program and the trail of dead law enforcement related to her testimony against the Irish mob five years ago weighs heavy on her. In addition, her young daughter can remember bits and pieces of the most recent move. Nick Anthony, an expert musician, purchased a large estate near Pine Falls a short time before his wife was killed in an auto accident. Injured and blinded in the same incident, he’s modified his name and keeps a low profile – until he’s persuaded to assist with a local theater production. His blindness does not hinder recognition of the talent or attraction to the soloist on stage. Misty tempers her attraction to the substitute music director with the reality of her secret past. Is her house fire an accident or does it mean the mob has found her? Again. With more financial and personnel resources than Misty can imagine, Nick offers his estate as a temporary safe haven. Following Misty and Nick as they shed their secrets and evade her pursuers is an enjoyable read.
i won this book from the author who was nice enough to mail me a paper copy so my 85 yr old mom could enjoy it too

I knew where I wanted this story to go but the twists and turns kept me on my toes or rather kept me reading. There were times when I wanted to tell Misty to just shut up and follow your heart but then that might get her and her daughter killed. How much more can this brave woman take to ensure her and Debbie's safety? Seems law enforcement has failed them too many times. A blind man to the rescue! Great story.
