A great introduction to the oral history and folklore of County Mayo. I enjoyed the diverse types of tales told throughout the book and learned a good bit not only about local history, but Irish history in general. However, I found the format a bit confusing at times as the author seems to be telling the stories as if he were his father, who was the original collector of the tales and the author is just the editor(?). I think a good addition to the book would be a map of Co. Mayo as the place names can be confusing if you are not from the area and further editing of grammar would make for easier reading.
