God Won't Help : Affirmations of the Reluctant God

Rate this book
A chance meeting with a former US Army Special Forces officer AKA Candyman in war-torn Kabul sets Shiv, a disillusioned civil engineer, from the comforts of Mumbai on a journey to find his inner peace.

The craggy peaks and troughs of the Karakoram Range echo the ups and downs of Shiv’s life as he seeks answers to questions of life, destiny and happiness. In a way, Shiv’s travails are no different from that of millions of others seeking answers to the apparent unfairness in life’s distribution of bounties and miseries.

Keeping him company in this quest is Nasir, a dour-faced Pashtun, who struggles with his own torments as he despairs at the caprices of fate.

But what is a former US army officer doing amidst the ruins of Kabul living in a tent house, and why does the American go by the moniker “Candyman”? The answer to this innocuous question hides in itself the purpose of life we seek and how and why happiness eludes most, despite religion, religious structures, gods and godmen and most important of all… why God won’t help! Or will He?

PLOT

Shiv is deployed to Kabul for a project. He finds his work to be mundane sans any thrills or challenges. Previously posted in Mumbai, he misses the fast paced life of the city. In Afghanistan, he meets Nasir who had lost his father due to the atrocities committed by Taliban. Nasir takes him to ‘Candyman’ where Shiv has his moment of enlightenment and awakening.

THOUGHTS

God doesn’t protect a mortal’s body but is a guardian of the soul, leaving the body to be governed by laws of nature. Then, you may wonder why should we express gratitude towards him? Gratitude to be able to enjoy the little things like relishing a snack, inhale the fragrance of a beautiful power, surrounding ourselves by our loved ones and many more.

God also grants the soul a body, to experience forms of worldly pleasures. The soul undergoes purification and finally after several lifetimes becomes one with the supreme being.

Change is constant. What we sow, so we reap. We should strive to dissolve our egos and surrender ourselves to the will of God.Let happiness and contentment be the measure of success rather than money or fame. The universe is unforgiving and there is no place for the weak in this world. Circumstances may conspire us to fail, but that should not stop us from trying.

REVIEW AND RATING

The entire story is about Shiv and Jim popularly called ‘Candyman’ indulging in a dialogue about God and basic truth of life. The lines in the book were poignant and profound. Some of them will tug at your heart strings while the others will hit you hard. The author has cited examples of Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and many other people who are termed as ‘Legends’ in their own right. Their penury and the initial struggle which they bore with their heart on their sleeve stirred something within me.Even though the book is a short read, the theories behind our existence takes a significant amount of time to fathom

Whether or not to believe the almighty is in our own hands. I would like to conclude by quoting Swami Vivekananda’s words – “An atheist is not one who does not believe in God but one who does not have faith in himself”

RATING : 4/5

"Struggle is a reality of life, there is no life without struggle and it is foolish to expect an impermanence to struggle. The only day struggle ends is when we are dead!

God Won't Help book by Mr. Rajiv. It describes the ups and downs and struggles of life. The author reveals the basis for our religious beliefs and further talks about superstition and the rule of karma.

"What we are getting today is the result of what we did yesterday. What happened, had to happen and we alone are responsible for what has happened."

The author made it clear that neither God nor the universe interfere with what people do. God won't step in on our behalf. we must understand and follow the laws of the universe, particularly the law of karma. Our actions have consequences that affect ourselves as well as others. By taking responsibility for our actions and making conscious choices, we can create a better future for ourselves and the world around us. The author also delves into the purpose of our existence. He explains that we each have a unique role to play in the grand scheme of things, and that our life experiences are meant to help us grow and evolve spiritually. By facing and overcoming challenges, we can learn valuable lessons and develop greater compassion and wisdom. Overall, this book provides a thought-provoking perspective on spirituality and the human experience. It encourages readers to take a more active role in shaping their own destiny and understanding the underlying principles that govern our world.

Many times we ask as to why god is not helping us or why are bad things happening to me. This book answers all of one's questions about karma, the laws of the universe and one's reason of existence.

📌 How many times has it occurred to you that god has given all the world problems to you and you only? I used to think that way too. Why does god never give me what i want why is that person able to achieve so much and i am not. These questions must have come to your mind and might have forced you to believe that does god even exist.

📌 Well this book is not about god but about you. This is the shortest book i have read that has helped me understand how our brains are wired and how we can become of all the source of energy we actually need.

📍 In the book you will find 3 characters talking about problems, challenges, differences, behaviour, mindset, goals etc and while they talk you will find out all the answers to the questions you had. The book is filled with positive affirmations with reasonings. You must have seen so many self help books they just give false affirmations but this one like a shortcut book to Gita! If you want to find out what are our responsibilities as humans to ourselves go ahead and read this book! How one should live a better and happier life! Read this book 📕 I will place this book in philosophy and spirituality 🌈

A 100 page book which is filled with magic and at the end of the book you will encounter something very interesting, i was shocked after reading the last page of the book!

The more you read this book, the more you understand it and the more you dig deeper within yourself to find out more answers!

I was really going tough time and in between i got a book "GOD WON'T HELP" i was just reading title again and again and after receiving copy i just started book with a mind set that its can be a jyst story like other novels but to my surprise this is not only a book with a story but it helps in healing, inner healing! I believe in god and yes if your deeds are bad even God won't help.
Book is motivational and somewhere emotional to. I was too much involved in book tgat i was assuming myself in many places. Story has Shiv and Jim as main protagonist but few side characters are also there. While reading i geled up my self with the conversation between Shiv and Jim and to my reach I found all my answers that i always seeked for. Four chapters can really change your way of thinking. Each chapter has answers to the things that happens around and we feel disappointed and blame god. Karma has its own way of replying and life is all about your karma that you do. As a good say as you saw so shall you reap! Best ever book of this month read. Im pkeased thyself is happy.
Language is lucid, cover can be more creative. Title is perfect. Quality of papers and font of book is fine.
Recommended to all the seerkers and definitely this is a book dedicated to THE SEEKERS.
Ps. I received this book from from writersmelon with an exchange of an honest review. Thnkew for giving me an opportunity.

Through the exploration of existentialist philosophy, the book suggests that each individual has the freedom to choose their path and find purpose, even in the midst of difficult circumstances, and not just blame something or someone for the happenings in their life.

This book talks about the personal journey toward enlightenment and the nature of consciousness and the present moment. The book certainly challenges readers to question their assumptions about reality and discover a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in their lives.

The book also explores the subject of comparing ourselves to others and how it can be counterproductive and lead to negative outcomes. When we compare ourselves to others, we tend to focus on their strengths and our weaknesses, which can cause feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

You are key to your problems and have the innate capacity to overcome any challenges that may come your way. This is not just another self-help book in the traditional sense, but rather a philosophical and spiritual exploration of the deeper questions that underlie our existence.

This book offers a profound and thought-provoking perspective on life, spirituality, and destiny.

Through the journey of Shiv, a disillusioned civil engineer from Mumbai, and his chance encounter with a mysterious US Army Special Forces officer in war-torn Kabul, the story explores deep questions about karma, the universe's laws, and the purpose of existence.

The narrative intertwines the rugged terrain of the Karakoram Range with the emotional and philosophical struggles of its characters, making the book both engaging and reflective.

The author masterfully conveys complex ideas in a simple, relatable manner, providing readers with solace and insight into life's challenges.

The character of Candyman, with his enigmatic presence, adds depth to the exploration of why happiness often seems elusive and whether divine intervention plays a role in our lives.

This is a must-read for anyone seeking clarity and peace in a chaotic world.

God Won’t Help by Rajiv Grover dives into the powerful idea that we alone are responsible for our lives, not external forces or God.

🌿 Through the character of Jim, a former U.S. Army officer in war-torn Kabul, we witness a deep conversation between him and Nasir, a man wrestling with his faith.

🌿 Jim guides Nasir toward a perspective where personal actions, choices, and karma shape one's life, not divine intervention.

🌿 This book provides a fresh take on faith, responsibility, and personal power, encouraging readers to find strength in their own choices. Ideal for those seeking clarity and ready to embrace accountability,
