I write about alpha protectors who fall in love hard and unconditionally, through the good and the bad. My characters are strong, sexy, and slightly damaged... because no one is perfect. All of my novels have happy-ever-after endings. What else would you expect from a die-hard romantic? I'm the author of the McIntyre Security Bodyguard Series of contemporary romance novels.

I live in Ohio with my daughter and more than a few dogs and cats. When I'm not writing, I'm reading romance novels and watching movies with happy endings. I'd love to hear from you! You can e-mail me at aprilwilsonwrites@outlook.com. Or, visit my website: aprilwilsonauthor.com.

Opening up another book by April Wilson and visiting the McIntyre's is like putting on an old comfy sweatshirt and remembering everything that you love about it and anticipating the comfort and solace that you will feel while wearing it. I was beyond ecstatic to be back in the fictional world with these amazingly real and beautifully flawed characters who have become friends to me. The McIntyre's never fail to illicit happy feelings, evoke sadness and sometimes fear for what they go through, and make me feel every moment of passion that these characters experience. In Hostage, April has us back in the heads and hearts of Shane and Beth, our favorite couple from the series. April gives us one hell of a ride with these two through twist and turns in the story that I never could have saw coming.

I have always had a soft spot for Beth McIntyre, way back before she married Shane and their relationship was just budding in Vulnerable. She has a bit of a soft center and has many issues from something traumatic that happened in her childhood but she also shows strength to overcome anything. April shows us once again how deep that strength runs in her newest story Hostage. Being inside Beth's mind was terrifying at times and had me on the edge of my seat and was also quite heartbreaking in later pages. But once again, we see how the McIntyre clan comes together to protect and love their own no matter what, which makes me love them all the harder.

Shane McIntyre proves again that he will always be there for Beth in anyway that he can. He will be there through every traumatic situation and each moment of joy. I never think that I can love him more then April shows me how wrong I am. He is the epitome of the alpha male with his over protectiveness with Beth, his ability to rock her world in the bedroom, and how he loves her so completely and fiercely.

April Wilson delivers a pulse pounding, heart in your throat read. Just when I think that things can't get anymore twisted and convoluted in Hostage, my mind is left reeling again by the next chapter. I highly recommend Hostage for a story of love that does more than persevere but flourishes everything they endure. April amazes me more with every book she writes in her ability to take me on a suspenseful ride and have me experiencing all the feels, in a ways I never expected.

Great installment featuring Beth and Shane( my favorite couple). They are eagerly awaiting the birth of their child when the unimaginable happens; Beth and Lia find themselves in a hostage situation. Wowza what an intense, edge of my seat sequence of events that turned out to be. Lia goes into Rambo mode and really proves her worth as Beth’s bodyguard. It was a blast to see. We’ve seen Sam previously save Beth, in this it is Lia’s turn. She is such a badass. The aftermath is heartbreaking. Shane, Cooper and Sam and their devotion to their family is SWOON. I loved this book. 5 stars!

Okay.

This was an okay addition to the series. In this book we return to Beth and Shane as the main characters which is fine if you really like Beth and Shane. I’m kind of ambivalent about them because of the characterization of Beth- but this deals with some important themes like post-part I’m depression even though I would have liked the resolution to have been managed a little better.

The premise of this is that Beth and Shane are headed for a last hurrah before the baby comes when Beth is caught up in a hostage situation and the poop hits the fan. This was an enjoyable read with an ensemble cast once again and a perfect set up for the next book featuring strong and silent type McIntyre brother, Jake. The series binge continues as I’ve already started the next book.

This book gutted me. I don't think I've ever cried through 90% of a book before this one. I love going back to Shane and Beth though.

I kind of wish that the author didn't feel the need to spend quite so much time on Shane and Beth with this series. I know that they are the ones that started it all and I do still want to keep up with what's going on with them, but not quite this much. Beth is not my favorite person. I find her too weak. I like my characters with a little more backbone. Beth spends too much time whining. I know they hinted that it was postpartum depression, but I just don't buy that here. Everyone treats her like she is made of glass, but I think she needs some tough love. She needs someone in her life who will occasionally tell her to stop being so needy and step up. The way that the whole robbery went down and the way they were with the police and stuff just seemed too unrealistic too.

I didn't completely hate this story though. I am glad that Luke is okay and everyone is happy and healthy. I am looking forward to getting to know Jake a little better too, since we really haven't gotten to see much of substance from him yet.

Fair warning ⚠️ you may not like my opinion, but they’re my own.

First off, I love this series. I’ve been inhaling these books since someone in one of my Facebook romance book groups told me try them out ( the page is called the club if you want a fun group to swap book recommendations with). Beth has always been a fragile and weaker character. She should’ve gotten help long before this book. She had experiences that she still has trouble coping with and I just don’t understand why nobody has got her to help. Yes, it did get better after she met Shane, but she’s SERIOUSLY codependent.

The big thing that caused me not to give my usual 5 stars for this installment of these books is the way Beth reacts to being around her baby after he is born. She’s stuck in her own head, not thinking about how her distance and avoidance of Luke may be affecting her newborn baby. I get having a preemie is hard, I had my first born around the same time and we spent 3 weeks in the NICU. I never thought to just step back. A baby needs its mother. I thought it was incredibly selfish. Again, probably an unpopular opinion but I just couldn’t get past it. Then Shane watching her do this and not get her help right away when he saw it from the very beginning bothered the crap out of me.

BUT with the bad come the good. I LOVED watching Cooper and Sam with the baby, seeing Tyler soften and become more of a well rounded human when he held his nephew. There were some super sweet moments that kept me from tanking the score lower.

I truly hope Beth has no more kids because it will probably just make me angry. Take my opinion for what it’s worth.

Grow up bet h

I really like Shane and Beth but this episode has been the weakest so far. I wanted strangle bet h. She was whiney and too much a victim. I wanted to slap her sometimes and say "grow up". Shane was a little too sensitive and accepting Beth's behavior. As for the hostage situation. What happened? The resolution with beth and lia was too easy and convenient.

We always hear we should follow our guts. But, seriously how many of us indeed do it? This story pretty much revolves around this very thing. Beth McIntyre has been under her husband, Shane’s watchful eye pretty much since they met. However, as soon as it was confirmed to be true, it only got worse. So, that she is even out to lunch with his sister, Lia, a professional bodyguard in his company, who is one of, Beth’s dearest friends, is amazing.

If you have all been reading the series you know the last time she was under heavy supervision due to a killer after her. She and Lia played a “Thelma and, Louise.” Well, guess what, Beth is getting cabin fever again because after being held up, due to the man after, Cooper. Being under house arrest basically, she wants to go on a weekend away. You know a last hoo-rah before the baby arrives, and they become parents.

Of course, Lia suggested Jake’s cabin, when, Beth said, Shane would never go for it. The face, Lia gives says when has, Shane ever said no to you. When she said I’ll call, Lia said in person always works better. If her womanly ways don’t work the pouty one would. That’s when Beth said let’s make it a couples weekend. With her and, Jonah. She said sure because for once, Jonah didn't have anything scheduled for his music career that weekend. And it was on, they were planning to leave, the next morning.

Both, Connor and, Sam had a bad feeling about, Beth going on the trip. Saying, it was too close to her due date. Even, Beth starts to feel uneasy about going especially when the low back pain was there in the morning. But a hot shower helped with that. They hit the road and... Sorry, not telling, you got to read it. But, totally worth it.

Especially, since you get to meet, Baby Luke at the end. What's in the middle will put you on edge, it will cause you fear, some joy, some sadness, and then a comfortable happiness for, Shane, Beth, and, Baby Luke.

Beth is now 8 months pregnant, and is tired of being on house stay and begs Shane for a last weekend away before the arrival of their son. She has still 6 weeks to go before her due date, and although Shane is not very happy about it he accepts. Both of them, together with Jonah and Lia, take off the road the next morning. Halfway through Beth needs to pee, she goes into a store with Lia but while she is in the bathroom gunshots are heard, 2 armed men have taken the people in the store in hostage. Lia manages to bring Beth to safety in the attic of the store without them being seen but very soon Beth starts having contractions, and the labor starts.

I was hesitant before reading this book, but was pleasantly surprised. It treated very difficult subjects : traumatic births, premature babies, and mostly post partum depression.
I could really connect with Beth, I too had a traumatic experience when I delivered my first child and I had a hard time afterwards to connect with my baby and to let go of the pain I still felt and the flashbacks. I felt that this was really well done, and Shane as always my hero, he was so damn patient with her I love him more with each book about them.

Not sure how to review this book

I am loving this author and her stories, the only problem is in having a hard time with Beth. She just come across as a child herself. Honestly, if I ever have birth under the circumstances, I would never want to leave his side. She fears things that aren't even plausible. I like a damsel in distress story like anyone else. There is just too much whining and absolutely no backbone. I just don't buy a tradgedy at age 6 would consume someone else 20 yrs later, with the guy gone. I have a damsel in distress but. I just think she has a lot of growing up to speed still have a backbone. I've loved all the other stories I've read i this series so far and all the charactors, espespecially when those other characters are multi facited, but Beth has just one facet. I found i had a hard time getting thru Beth stories because it became boring. However all that said her other characters at least five for whY they want.
Sorry didnt want to come across so negative .If u must have thE damsel o distress at least make bull so.e character Nd so I k that she has learned and take thE to a new level

What unconditional love is made from...

Beth seduces Shane so that he will say yes to a last minute road trip before baby Luke arrives. Cooper is like a father to Beth and is not happy about the trip at all. Shane is well aware of the dangers of being on the road at such a late stage in pregnancy however he will do anything to make Beth happy.

Unbeknownst to the Shane he is about to go through the worst and scariest experience of his life.

Baby Luke decides to make an early appearance and not at the best of times or places. Shane is at a loss and fears for his son and wife's safety and care. He needs to get them both to safety.

April Wilson tells us a story that leaves you breathless. You are right there in the moment and living each encounter with them. I love that April writes with a duel POV. Each of her stories are well thought through and will entertain you from beginning to end.

April has once again written a story with so much suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat, love that is felt to the bone and humor that will make you laugh uncontrollably.

I absolutely loved this book. Cannot wait to start “Redeemed” now….

Love this book. Love the fourth installment of Beth and Shane’s romance story. In book 4, Shattered, readers learn that Beth is pregnant and in book 6, Ruined, readers learn that Beth and Shane are having baby boy. This book starts with Beth having 6 more weeks before her due date. Beth is going stir crazy and wants to get out of the penthouse. Lia suggests going on a mini vacation before the baby is born. Beth likes that idea and invites Lia and Jonah to go with her and Shane. Beth just has to convince Shane to go, which he agrees to go. On the ride up to their destination, Beth has to go the bathroom. So they stop at a small convenience store. Lia and Beth go in, so Beth can use the restroom. While they are in the restroom, they here three gun shots. Lia tells Lia brings Beth to the attic to hide. While in the attic, Beth asks what’s happening and Lia tells her that there is an armed robbery. During this ordeal, Beth’s water ends up breaking, which puts Beth in labor. Beth and Shane’s son is born six weeks premature. Due to his scary birth and Beth wanting to go on a mini vacation, Beth ends up blaming herself for her son’s rocky birth and ends up having postpartum depression. Love the next stage in Beth and Shane’s romance story. Worth the read

Another amazing book

April doesn't disappoint with her books!!! I've read every book multiple times and I'll most likely read them even more!

First of you haven't read the first 3 books for Beth and Shane i highly recommend you read those first so you have the full story of this amazing couple!! And also know that this series, every book has all the characters so it's really best to just start a Vulnerable and read on through to Hostage.

Beth is stir crazy and 6 weeks from having baby Luke and she convinces Shane to take her on a trip and before they even arrive to their destination Beth and Lia are caught in a bad situation. The who!e McIntyre family is scrambling to save them from danger!!! Such a great read!!! And it also touches on the very real post partum that so many new mothers experience after the baby comes. Beth's feelings were so spot on and perfectly described it really made me feel how she was feeling!!
All in all great read and now to start the wait for Jakes book!!!

This story was wonderful and hear wrenching! I loved re-visiting with the McIntyre Security crew and family!

Beth is about to deliver baby Luke any day now. But at 6 weeks from giving birth, she’s feeling stir crazy. All she wants is a short getaway with Shane before the baby comes.

Nothing ever goes smoothly for Beth. An impromptu getaway turns into a harrowing ordeal. Oh and the baby that wasn’t do for six more weeks...well baby’s don’t follow anyone’s schedule.

Shane is amazing as always. Loving, caring and always able to handle anything. Beth thinks she’s weak at times, but she’s not. She may struggle but she always fights back and overcomes whatever obstacle gets in her way. These two share a love that is just incredible. And time has not changed how much they crave one another.

A beautiful story of family. A family not all sharing blood, but sharing their lives together! And when you need them, they always show up. And when you struggle, they lift you up. I love these characters and always look forward to more in the series. I can’t wait for Jake and Annie’s story.

Wow April has done it again another fantastic read about Shane and Beth McIntyre.I seriously can't get enough of this series.its full of close relationships and wonderful supportive family who all adore Beth who married into the McIntyre family.Lia who is Shane's sister and Beth get trapped and held part of a hostage by armed robbers Beth is heavily pregnant and Lia takes Beth to safety into the attic but Beths waters break and Shane is stuck out on the forecourt with Lias celebrity boyfriend Jonah.Lia ends up helping Beth give birth until help is on its way when the paramedics arrive and help Beth it's to late to move her to give birth in the ambulance Beth's baby boy Lucas gets rushed to a special unit in a hospital and Beth has to go to a different hospital Beth finds it hard to bond with Lucas at first as she blames her self for what happend and thinks her husband blames her it's heartbreaking thinking that Beth blames her self for what happend I can't wait to read the rest in the series this is a romance/erotica series.

Our favorite family plus one

Baby Luke is finally here, but after a whirlwind and dangerous delivery. This book is so real, written with so many true circumstances, it's hard not to fall in love with the characters. I literally cried when he made his entrance, which is a testament to April's writing and how much emotion it evokes. Beth and Shane have a beautiful love and I adore their relationship. Watching them grow their family and seeing the whole family dote on tiny Luke was such a heartwarming experience. I really feel like I'm there with them. This book is the perfect blend of romance, heat, drama, and love. Always a HEA. I can't wait for more of the family and their next installment. ❤

I LOVED LOVED THE ORIGINAL 3 BOOK! So I was so happy we get a contiuation of this story.
I still love Shane and Beth and in this one she and the gang go on a weekend trip while she is preggars and when she steps foot in an mini mart to pee the place is held up and Lia gets her to the attack to keep her safe and she gives birth there

I usually read mostly YA/NA books and this was interesitng because she has a type of post partum depression. she feels guilty of what happened and thinks its her fault and pushes everyone away.
Shane is wonderful with her throughout the whole ordeal.
Overall a great read!!!! I would love to see another book one day with Beth and Shane!! so good!

Loved

Loved the book. Never without some craziness or drama. Yay for Lia saving the day and Jason the paramedic. The only thing is that I don’t like how Luke and cooper rag on Shane every time something happens to Beth. She is a grown woman who can do what she wants. He doesn’t control her but he always gets blamed when something happens. They eventually apologize but still. Come one. Loved how everyone rallied and helped Beth, Shane and Luke. I hope copper and Sam have a baby. And then Jamie and molly. I hope Jake is ok. I’m sure he is overwhelmed with all the things going on. Book greatly depicts the flux of emotions women go through postpartum. And the possibilities of depression especially with preemies.

Back to spelling mistakes, and simpering Beth!

I’m sorry but I’d just started to like Beth. She was more confident and a lot more enjoyable to read about. Now we’ve gone back to simpering Beth who has nightmares all the tine. And how many problems and terrible things can one person have??? She seems to lurch from one disaster to the next. Such a shame as I love this couple.
Beth is pregnant with Shane’s child, everything is going really well apart from the fact that she doesn’t go into work anymore as she’s pregnant? She works as a manager from home, erm..... ???? She’s also having a lot of nightmares, and is terrified about even going out to lunch with Lia! I did love the happy ending though.

Overwhelmed with cabin fever, Beth and Lia convince Shane and Jonah they should spend the weekend at the cabin. There is resistance from the family though it’s dismissed since the baby’s not due for six weeks. Stopping for a potty break and gas on the way Beth and Lia are trapped inside as an armed robbery takes place.

Though this reader isn’t enamored of Beth and Shane that was just one of the reasons this outing didn’t suit my taste. The new parents put forth the least amount of time with baby Luke; post-partum depression presented more overwhelmed (otime energy, etc .as long as it wasn’t Luke related), it just wasn’t cute, Overall, the read was much too long and boring but the hostage situation and groundwork for the next outing were good.

OMG April Wilson this is amazing I'm so in love with this series!

When Beth wants to go on one last road trip before baby Luke arrives Shane relents after being seduced in his office but things take a drastic turn. Shane is tested to his limits and with Cooper giving him a hard time it's all he needs!
Baby Luke makes an early appearance with some heartbreaking and touching moments. Cooper and Sam are just so adorable and melt my heart with baby Luke.
Great to see a softer side to Tyler i love him! Touching scenes with Jamie feeling his nephews face to see him and changing his diaper and Beth talking with Molly!
Can't wait for Jakes story now we have more of an insight to it, exciting!

Wow, another good entry in this series. This was a very emotional story. Given the title, I didn't know what to expect. If you didn't love Shane before this book (and I did) you would after reading this. He makes Beth his priority. I really felt for Beth. She went through so much and carried so much guilt. Both she and Shane feel guilt and regret. One thing I really admire about the author is that she is willing to touch on very difficult issues. Each book includes something relevant in today's world. The feeling of family with all the characters is what really makes this series stand out.

The series just gets better and better

Each book is better than the last. I can't wait to see where April will go with the next novel. This book had me just about in tears thinking about what Beth is dealing with after the birth of her little one. The relationship between Shane and Beth is what dreams are made off. He loves her so much, and the way their story is written makes me sigh. I love that the whole family, and security team show up in each book, it really gives us a chance to get to know each person. That way when the next book comes out we are already invested in their lives. I can't wait for Jake, Erin and Mack, Hannah, Sophie....the list could go on and on.

What a pleasant surprise

This book came up as a random recommendation from Amazon, and on a whim I got it. It was really good! Well written, no glaring errors or typos, good characterizations, and realistic. This author, who is completely unknown to me, navigated her way through some tricky situations with ease and aplomb. I was even able to keep up with who everyone is despite the fact that it’s book 7 even though the book never got bogged down in lengthy and tedious recaps of previous books.

Now I get the joy of reading all the others. It’s like finding a hidden treasure. Cheers!

Book series that you will want to read again and again!!!

So love this series that April has written. I read a lot of books and hers are at the top of my favorites.
Character's are so real and alive I swear they are actually living their lives in Chicago. Each man gives the love and security every woman hopes and dreams about. So looking forward to every book she writes. Thank you April and to all those that have contributed to this book series and characters as they came to life. Please don't stop writing. I am all in if you would like to expand this series. A fan forever.

Wrong place, Wrong time...

I loved reading about Beth and Shane! The McIntyre crew has also had an extended family blood and non-blood, but this book exemplifies the word family! When Beth is in crises the crew jumps into action! Without any spoilers...she realizes family is what has supported her and helped her grow (in more ways than one and especially in this book)! I still remember downloading Vulnerable on my kindle and deciding not to read it until Fearless came out! LOL Boy...feels like forever ago! April I love your books!!!! Can’t wait for more!

Raw, emotional and amazing

Wow! What an an amazing and emotional story for Beth and Shane. April Wilson has such raw talent and gets you so invested and involved in the story, you never want it to end. April highlights some very serious issues and it's always amazing when real life issues are brought to light. Beth and Shane's story had me hooked. It made me smile and it made me cry ugly sobs but in a truly amazing way. Such a gifted writer like April doesn't dissapoint. I can't wait for the next in the series.
Enjoy.

Loved It!

I'm so glad I stumbled across this amazing series recently and this latest catch up with the McIntyre family had me reading the book in one sitting! I travelled through the highs and lows once again, eager to see firm favourites Beth and Shane get to their next HEA and I loved every minute of it! Perfectly written and a heartfelt addition to the series.....but as I've come to realize, this is April Wilson's forte and boy she doesn't let her readers down!
The only downside was that I was left simply wanting more....I can't wait for the next instalment.
