"Holy hell, this book is very intense! I've read several of this author's books, and this series right here is so damn good. It's super dark and disturbingly intoxicating."
I need someone to shake me awake, to tell me this is only a dream.
I keep waiting to let out the breath I’ve been holding since he captured me.
But the nightmare doesn't end.
The sun doesn't rise.
The silver lining stays hidden under the darkness of his shadow.
Dax Pierce has his fingers tight around my heart. They burn the surface of my skin.
His lips taste of the bitter poison he kills me with one day at a time.
I can scream. I can beg for my freedom. But my tears only turn him on.
For now, all I can do is weep in the arms of the devil, and keep wishing for this nightmare to end—with my death or my freedom.

Dori Lavelle is a mother, wife, and sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Hand her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.
I just finished this series and I haven't found any romance in this terrifying book at all. This series is a really dark and creepy thriller. The only romance in this story was in the head of a sick murder, that has an obsession with torturing and killing women that he claims to "love". This was an unbelievable brutal and dark series. From kidnapping, sexual and physical abuse to murder. It's all in this series and precisely described 😳 I don't think I can sleep well after this book. That's exactly why I can't read horrors and thrillers 😭 I just thought it'll change at some point and it did, but not how I wanted it to change 😂 I'm a wreck and apparently a masochist 🤷🏻♀️

Since the ending of book 1, I have been dying to get my hands on this one and it was worth the wait. Once again, Dori has outdone herself with Black vows. Wow oh wow I have never HATED a character as much as I HATE Dax!
This is the second book in the Obsession Inc series What a book it has been, it starts right where book 1 left us if you have read book 1 then you know what an ending it was. I do not want to give much away. I will admit this book left me with tears falling down my face. Dori has once again brought a dark book to life. You just devour her words. It is very well written, great storyline and plot. Such an intense read.
Holy hell this book is very intense! I've read several of this author's books, and this series right here is so damn good. It's super dark, and disturbingly intoxicating. You must read Black Kiss 1st! Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Holy macaroni and cheese! this book is very intense! I've read several of this author's books, and this series right here is so freaking good. It's super dark, and disturbingly intoxicating. You must read Black Kiss 1st! Trust me you won't be disappointed.
I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary honest review. I love how dark Dori's mind can go, she's not afraid to go above and beyond some people's tnresh holds. Black vows is twisted, entertaining, dark, thrill seeker. I still can't get over how DAX has a complete 180 he was so nice in the first a book till the end. I guess he was tired of hiding his true colors. I don't know if I believe he loves Emma. Maybe in his own twisted way he might. But the things he has put her through I just don't see how it can be possible. He is definitely a monster in my eyes.
Now that's how I like my books, dark, sick and twisted! It was a bit repetitive, but I just realized that when books take place in one setting, it's going to be that way until towards the end. But it was still a real page-turner. Dax is seriously screwed up and Emma is trying her best to survive the nightmare he put her in. It still shocks me that he went from basic jealousy of her fame to a sick, sadistic murderer. Part of me was kind of hoping he was just misguided or something and that the romance part of this story would happen, but it doesn't. The author is really great with the torture and stuff But I guess I just didn't want Dax to be a full-blown maniac. But I'm so eager to find out what happens next.

Review:
Black Vows is the second book in the series Obsession Inc. by Dori Lavelle. Can you say DARK??? Whew…definitely a dark, gripping, disturbing and very well written read.
Black Vows continues the story where book one, Black Kiss, left off. Emma is in a dark, musty room listening and trying to determine where Ruby (the snake) is without the benefit of light. Emma is trapped, a veritable prisoner of Dax … trying to survive the “punishment” he is dishing out. And twisted he is.
“My darling, you don’t have to worry about dying from snake bite. Ruby is up here with me. It’s just that seeing you terrified kind of turns me on. I couldn’t help myself.” He sighs. “But I’m getting bored with this part of the game. Give me a moment and I’ll be right down. I’ve got so many surprises in store for you.”
What happened to the wonderful, artistic, handsome, polite Dax that she fell in love with? That is the question.
Emma gathers all her internal resources to fight. Emma focuses on her sister Christa’s need for her strength to get through chemo treatments. This is what drives Emma to survive.
But as the reader sees time and again throughout the book, Dax will say and do whatever to control Emma. It is truly frightening. These horrible, twisted events are better read about, then my trying to describe the indescribable for I am no storyteller like Ms. Lavelle.
“…his souls is many shades of black.”
One must question how a person can be so kind and caring on one hand and then turn around and be so evil. What drives Dax? What happened to him in his life to make him act the way he does – and believe it is alright to do so?
These are questions that I mulled over many times as I read the book. The reader does get a glimpse of what makes Dax tick. Obviously, if I were to answer all of my questions, it might take some of the suspenseful reading away from your journey through the world of Dax and Emma….so I will leave these questions unanswered for each reader to discover themselves.
I was in a conundrum… stop reading because it was so dark but yet…keep reading to see if Dax really was as dark as I thought….and why? And that is the crux of it…why??? I loved how Emma’s inner strength kept pushing through for her survival. I cannot fathom how an individual can put up with what Emma has, truly amazing… and frightening. The ending definitely leaves you … well I am not sure “wanting more” is appropriate, but this reader needs to have some closure so I guess “needing more” is fitting.
Ms. Lavelle did it again – a riveting read. Her way with words brings the story to a whole new level. With book 3 in the series, Black Rose, ready to go on my eReader, it may be another long night of reading. Who am I kidding… I think I will wait until the sun comes up.
I loved this book from start to finish. Emma was held captive by Dax in his house. Emma had no food or water for days and Dax threatened Emma with his snake if she didn't do as he said.
When he released Emma he brought her on a tour of the house and into the other rooms he held the other girls captive and murdered them.
Dax didn't want to hurt Emma so he kidnapped her and brought her to his yacht so she will have no contact with the outside world. When he arrived on the yacht with Emma he had Emma confined to a cabin with windows plus it also had two security guards watching over her. Dax was ruthless because he wouldn't let Emma sleep as he put loud music on in her room.
The crew on the boat all spoke German. When Dax would leave the yacht the crew was more relaxed and spoke English. Emma asked them for help to get her off the yacht. When Dax returned on day he gave Emma news that her sister died and he said he was her only family now.
It turned out that the kitchen made on the yacht was Dax mother and she was trying to help Emma get in touch with the outside world but her phone died.
One day when Emma was getting some food their was an article in the paper about Emma been kidnapped. I will leave who done it won't spoil it.
I could go on and tell more on this excellent story but I won't. Dori has outdone herself on this book and I can't wait to see what happens book 3
The story of Dax and Emma continues in Black Vows. This picks up right where Black Kiss leaves off. Dax is so much more depraved and sinister than I thought possible. Some of his past is starting to be uncovered and revealed. Showing a complex and intriguing character. This had me thinking is evil behavior learned or is it a choice. It’s a thought provoking and interesting a subject that the book touches on. Emma is stronger than I first thought. Both mentally and spiritually she’s a fighter. She does what she needs to do to make it through the other side. If she’s given a chance I have no doubt that girl will fight and take no prisoners. Brilliant writing, superb plot and fascinating characters! This is one outstanding series! Ms. Lavelle is The Queen of dark suspenseful books. Her stories and plots are unique and her characters, even the sadistic ones, are always interesting. I’m looking forward to the next book to see what Dax still has planned and how Emma will try and undermine him.
WOWzer! 👍 I LOVED IT! One heck of a breathtaking twisted read! I can't get enough of this amazing series! Crazy twists, intense , breathtaking, heartpounding, nail-biting, gripping story that pushes the reader to keep turning the pages on edge wanting more of the unknown but not wanting the reality of what you just read unsure of turning the next page but the passion and adrenaline you have pumping through you forced you to turn the page for the answers you never see coming from the brilliantly executed twists that leave you wanting, needing the HEA that is not with reach but loving every word that brings you to the last page! The suspense for Black Rose will be just as grueling of a wait as it was reading the first 2 books in the Obsession series! I FLIPPING LOVED IT!👍👍👍👍👍
OMG, what an amazing, intriguing and totally dark series this is turning out to be. This is book two in this series and Dax has out done himself when it comes to Emma and all he forces her to endure. He is the epitome of evil and he believes that Emma is his one and only true love. Betrayal, lies, torture, murder and everything else you can possibly think of is in this book. This is a definite must read series and I am waiting with baited breath for the next book. Dori Lavelle is a master at weaving a wicked dark romance, make sure you check out her other dark romances because they are awesome as well.
I honestly couldn’t decide if this was a 2 or a 4 so I went with 3 the 1st book sucked me in but this one I just can’t even there is so much darkness the whole book is riddled with ugly I honestly haven’t seen one glimpse of light and while I like dark reads most of the time this one isn’t my norm and honestly I’m feeling like chapter after chapter it was the same but with more darkness.. I slightly thrown off and not sure how I feel about this one
This series just keeps getting better. What a psycho! I couldn't put this book down either until I finished. The plot again was interesting. Not sure how Ms. Lavelle came up with this one. It's that dark! The storyline flowed smoothly throughout as well. Her style of writing again is easy to read. The characters are well-developed and easily relatable. I didn't see this Dax coming at all. Just an amazing read!
This book is very terrifying 😭. Omg the things Dax did to Emma is unbelievable 🤬. This series is not romantic at all ,it’s very creepy, dark and disturbing. He killed his own unborn child 🤫😨. How a man could be so cruel . It’s not easy to read this series . I’ve read many dark romance and I can stomach everything no matter how much creepy , dark or disturbing it is . But Dax is giving me chills 😭. Going to read the next book 📕 and wishing for HEA for Emma.
This book was all kinds of yummy and picks right up where the last one ended with Dax still crazy as ever and holding Emma hostage. I absolutely love dark reads and Dori is the Queen of darkness. This is an amazing series and if you haven't read it yet, then what are you waiting for? You will not be disappointed when this series sinks its claws into you. I stayed up all night reading this book!
So far this has been a dark horror thriller. Absolutely nothing has had a hint of romance to it. It's completely dark and just pure abuse. It's not enjoyable to read. I just want to know she gets to escape. Luckily it's available on KU because I wouldn't pay for serial books to find out.
Well, heck... talk about a dark read. That was more. So much more! If you're looking for something that's different than what you've read, something that has more suspense and darkness, this is the one. I'm gonna go take a break for a little while before I read the third book. Maybe something with unicorns and rainbows...
So know that me leaving two stars has nothing to do with the theme or darkness of the book. No it has to do with the fact that this second book felt so unnecessary and just dragged us along. While some of it was needed to build up on to the next, I think it would have been better in the first or last book. Just to much unwarranted fluff in this one
Things have definitely gotten more intense. Dax is more evil, more brutal, just more. Emma’s strength to withstand it is pretty amazing. She’s hanging on to hope, and we can only hope for her. I cannot wait until the next book to see who ends up on top! And to see how he tries to top himself!
Dax is one crazy man he does so many dark and depraved things to Emma who is just trying to survive and find a way to escape. I couldn't put down this book. Dori what did you do to me with this series!!! P.S. That ending tire my heart out😢😢😢😤😤😤
This is a dark a twisted thriller you won't want to stop reading. You keep hoping something good is going to happen but then there is another dark turn of events.
I was disappointed how short this book was. I get that it's a specific time period/happenings but idk I guess I'm partial to the fact I had to spend money on it when it could've been part of the first or last book, so a 2 book series instead of 3.
Dax and Emma's story just got even more twisted and insanely crazy. I devoured this book. I cannot wait to see just how much more dark and twisted Dax's mind can get...
So glad I never had long to wait to read this book after the ending of book 1 , another amazing book by Dori lavelle if you love dark reads then I highly recommended this series really can't wait for the third book to come out
