The Mark

Rate this book
Imagine a world created purely for the gods’ entertainment. Our world.

Green is born into this world with a strange birthmark covering her back, an ancient script only the gods can read. The mark makes her both a target and a mystery – some immortals want her dead, while others are curious. Her life hangs on a thread.

Chief among her enemies is the cold and malicious Set, god of mindless faith – but protecting her is the beautiful Baldur, who comes to feel more for this mortal pawn than any immortal should.

Green and Baldur must somehow decipher the meaning of the mark she bears - or all of human history will be swept from the board, like the pieces from a game of chess.

Hi, I'm Fallacious Rose. I also write under the pen name F.L.Rose.

I live on the gorgeous east coast of Australia with my spoilt kelpie, Darcy, and a possum called Edith. I write in a wide range of genres, including some you've never heard of (culinary philosophy, anyone?). I divide my time between writing (of course) and painting truly terrible portraits of my friends. I don't have a lot of friends, come to think of it...

The Mark like files book one by Fallacious Rose 5 stars.

Wow, that was a really good book. This was a very unique story, that was quite intriguing. Characters are well developed and defined, with likable characters. The story kinda revolves around a young woman named Green. Green to put it mildly has a very rough life. She has her best friend Ruby, who is quite different than Green. They go through a lot together, like a really lot. I would recommend reading this book, sorry my review is so short, but I'm dying to start the next book. It's calling to me.

I received this ARC form the Author, the review is my honest opinion.

Interesting story. I found it hard to get into and difficult to follow at times with so many characters contributing to the story line. The ending was ok... not as satisfying as it could be. Maybe it was to lead to another book? I don’t know. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

Not typical of any genre, spanning eras of the gods, decades of a mortal's life, continents of our world, gripping, twisted, darkly humorous, ironically romantic, a story only the mind of Fallacious Rose could bring forth. It leaves one with a bit of a shudder, a sense of hope, and questions.

Green is born with an odd birth mark covering nearly all of her back. Her parents hope their baby will out grow this oddity which almost seems some sort of ancient script. Instead it grows with her, covering her entire back.

As Green ages, she adjust her style to cover what she thinks sets her apart from other girls. She tries to fit it.

There are things however that the people of the Earth don't know. To the gods that look down, they are all merely pieces of a game, souls to be collected, tokens. How long the gods have been playing perhaps even they can't remember. They begin to tire of the game. Think of wiping the board clean, and starting anew.

To them, Green is an anomaly, an unknown, a question mark. Some want her dead, removed from play. Others want to see how the moves play out, without interference. Green's life is held in the balance of power between the sides.

Set is most intent on Green's death. A god most devious, unscrupulous, and underhanded. He is unequaled at influencing others to act on his behalf mortals and even other gods. A most dangerous enemy for a god to have, deady for a mere mortal teenager!

Baldur has never participated in the game. Over the eons he has stood aside, watching silently. Not once has he participated, offered advice, or shown interest. He has been a simple observer over long hours of the others manipulations of each other, and their tokens. Now however, Baldur feels strangly drawn to this girl. Still he observes silently, letting none of the other gods glimpse this change.

What will happen in this ultimate game of the gods? Does free will have any play in Green's life or will it be cut brutally short?

Run with Green across the world in this battle for her life in The Mark!

I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a modern take on the Gods of old. They are still messing with the humans on earth, and still consider it a game, but the stakes are much higher. A wildcard has been thrown into the the game. No one seems to know what this means, or who put it there. Is it the end of everything?

In the midst of all this plotting and manipulating, a romance between a god and a human is emerging. It is very interesting to see how the gods in this story interfere with the humans.

The story is really getting interesting. I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series.

This book was unique. I can’t say I really cared for the main character. At times it was hard to get into the book. After that ending, I’m looking forward to the next book. I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery. I am voluntarily posting this review. This is my honest review.

I'm a deep lover of retold mythology, so I had high hopes. That said, I was disappointed with the lukewarm mortal characters and the choices they made.
