Ballroom Blitz

Rate this book
She’s got the rhythm, but he’s got all the right moves. After years on the road, rock drummer Jon White Feather is home from tour to reassess his music career. When his shy niece begs him to take a ballroom dancing class, Jon agrees, aware he’s not Fred Astaire material. Still, it stings when his sexy-hot instructor—who makes his heart do the cha-cha—deals his ego a low he has no rhythm. Maggie Buchanan is doing everything to make ends meet since her IT career fizzled, including teaching couples dancing at the community center. She’s prepared for anything—except her immediate attraction to the bad boy rocker who doesn’t know his right foot from his left. As Jon sets out to prove he can rock his body—and hers—their sexual chemistry burns a path across the dance floor, straight to the bedroom. And Maggie wasn’t expecting a man with limited dance skills would know exactly how to sweep her off her feet.

5 Stars

I have to admit, when I saw this book listed on Samhain's website I was so excited I immediately requested to read and review it. It didn't even have a cover up or a description, just the title and Lorelei as the author. I had a feeling I would enjoy it, I knew it would be different from what she's written lately and that excited me to no end. Don't get me wrong I adore the Rough Riders series and the Blacktop Cowboy series but I love when authors take a chance and shake things up. In Ballroom Blitz she mixes a competitive ballroom dancer with a Native American rock star whose sexual chemistry sizzles like a salsa, jumps like a jitterbug, and is as romantic as a rumba. This book absolutely proves that no matter what Lorelei James chooses to write; she does her homework and she writes it well. I hate to say it out loud because I don't want to jinx it, but I'm already hoping she's writing a sequel because there was a huge hint about the hero's brother in this book and I'm already salivating just thinking where that book might lead.

Jon is such an interesting guy, he's got his rock star persona and all that goes with it but then we also see he's a devoted brother and uncle. While he enjoys performing with his band, it's also evident he enjoys the creative process of writing and arranging music. I love that he encourages and supports Maggie in her aspirations of becoming a dance champion. He fully supports her endeavors something she's never had from her family.

Maggie is at a crossroads in her life. Working more than one job after being "downsized", she's rekindled her aspirations of being a competitive dancer. When she meets Jon, it's almost scary how intuitive she is about what's going on with his career. I adore that even though Jon struggles with his dancing she doesn't ridicule; she jokes with him and tries to put him at ease to get him past his rhythmic issues.

On paper Maggie Buchanan and Jon White Feather look like polar opposites but from the minute these two meet the connection is electric. While it's apparent that these two will (and do burn up the sheets), I love how much time they spend getting to know one another. Many times in a novella character development is sacrificed but in this book, we know so much about these characters, their backgrounds, their hopes and dreams for the future. I appreciate that they had to struggle to make their relationship work; it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. These are two very busy people with demanding careers that require traveling, separation, trust and sometimes it becomes too much to deal with.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. Lorelei James has once again given us a story with engaging and interesting characters, an entertaining and complicated love story, and left me hoping for a sequel. Most of all she's proven that it's okay to step outside the box, let someone else lead, and to take a chance. Ballroom Blitz is an amazing story and I have no doubt it will become a fast favorite among romance readers everywhere!

For those that don't know, this is a sequel to a 2008 anthology called Wicked Garden where we first met Jon White Feather. Jon was a bit wilder in those days.

In this book we find him tired of the touring and rock star life and is finally home after a long stint of being on the road thinking of retiring from the band.

His niece has roped him into being her partner in ballroom dancing lessons even though he's told her he has two left feet.. In the first lesson we find out he is not kidding :) He is also surprised at his instant attraction to the teacher of class Maggie Buchanan.

Maggie has always loved dancing but when it started to interfere with her grades in college and her brother step in and said she needed to give up the dream and concentrate on getting a education and get a real job she put it aside to to get her degree. Years later she is laid off from her IT job and decides to teach dance as a supplemental income.

She too is attracted to Jon and they start smoking up the sheets. But Jon doesn't tell her about his other outside offers from other bands and she isn't upfront with him or herself on what she really wants to do in life either.

There was a really cool surprise guest appearance at the beginning :) And we also get to see how Eden and Billy are doing. Billy is Maggie's brother and if you've read the first book you know why there is a little issue from Billy about his sister dating Jon.

Really enjoyed this one. Story line is cute, sexy time is sexy, and it was a fun quick read. Rock star Jon White Feather takes his niece to a dance class and meets Maggie. They’re both smitten despite the fact that this famous drummer has no rhythm when it comes to dance. But they find rhythm between the sheets while they each work out their next career moves. There’s a bit of angst but it’s sweet and I enjoyed it.

I know Lorelei James is known for her erotic romances, her cowboys. But what I also love about her books is her sense of humor. Aside from the fact the hero in this story can’t dance a lick – and he’s a drummer in a band, so he does have some rhythm – I was laughing out loud so many times while reading, that kept me smiling long after I’d finished the book.

Jon White Feather is home to do some serious thinking about his career. He’s tired of the touring with the band, wants to do some solo work for a while. In the midst of this his niece asks him to take a ballroom dancing class with her, something she’s so excited about he can’t refuse. Despite the fact he can’t dance. He keeps trying, however, just to be near the pretty dance instructor, Maggie. She zings him a good one in letting him know he has no rhythm, not knowing he’s a drummer in a popular rock band.

Maggie is getting ready to live her dream. Dancing has always been more than a hobby, but she ended up in the IT world instead of on the dance floor. Since losing her job recently, she’s been teaching dance and also practicing with her partner for a major ballroom competition, something she never thought would come to pass in her life. Meeting Jon in between it all has been the icing on the cake.

When these two take their dance to the bedroom, they definitely make their own music. Vintage James when it comes to the romance and love scenes, and there’s very few who can do it better. The chemistry between them is quite explosive. Of course, they do have some conflict with their respective careers and how it will affect the relationship, but they take the time to get to know one another, so working out problems should come easy. I enjoyed the family scenes with Jon and his brother’s family. That’s another thing that Ms. James is very good at: family. The scenes with his niece are just wonderful and the relaxed relationship with his brother is nicely done.

As much as I love Lorelei James’ cowboys, I like that she does her research well and gives readers something new to sink their teeth into. I’ve not read the earlier book where Jon is first mentioned, Wicked Garden, but knowing it will be well worth the read, it’s definitely on the list to get to soon.

If you thought Jon White Feather was hot in WICKED GARDEN, then you'll be blown away and fall madly in love with him in BALLROOM BLITZ. Gaaaaawwwwwwwd but that is a perfect man!

He is now taking a break from his band and his niece ropes him in to take dance classes with her. Even though he can play almost any instrument, he has two left feet. But he agrees to go for his niece, and then continues because of the hot dance instructor.

Maggie and Jon had a case of lust at first sight. And what an explosive combination of dancing and a hot musician. Between their private lessons and his concerts, I was completely enthralled in their relationship from beginning to end. And kept wanting more!

I liked the twist of who Maggie is, she's Billy's sister from WICKED GARDEN. This brought another level of issues to their relationship and kept things interesting. I thought it was extremely sweet when Jon brought Maggie around his family. Their relationship progressed at a perfect pace, even though it was only a short story.

Can't wait to get my next James fix!

Low end of 3 stars

Plot: C-
Characters: C
Heat: C
Everything was going well with Jon and Maggie. I liked the banter, and the chemistry. Then when, at about 30%, after all this passionate kissing, he immediately forgets about her when other people come around. Then we find out that he had a threesome with Maggie's brother and wife. Now I often don't care about sexual history, but that's too close to home. After reading about that, I wasn't such a huge fan of Jon anymore. And then he is all closed mouth about his career developments and snarks at her about her own. He just seemed like a hypocrite. Maggie was just an ok character. And the heat factor, imo, was mild.

I am a huge Lorelei James fan. So I was very excited to read this story. As with all her books, it was very easy to get into and read in one sitting. My problem was I'm not a fan of the MC's keeping huge secrets from each other. A little mystery is fine. But in this case, they were both keeping very large secrets and I don't think either one really wanted to tell the other. I was yelling at them to just talk to each other but they wouldn't listen to me. Overall, it was a good story just not one of my favorites.

I think I would have liked this one better had both Jon and Maggie not been so stubborn and not clued the other in on their potential future. By keeping secrets all they did was cause distrust with the other and doubt with their relationship.

It seems I read this a while back and forgot to review it. It's a good story with all the right elements. Not very intense, but a good story of friends, family, with hot sex thrown in. Read the other reviews for details.

Of course, because I love pretty much every smutty word Lorelei James writes, I liked this book just as much as anything else she's written. Quick, easy, sexy, and fun!

Rock Star Johnny White Feather is ready for a break and Maggie Buchanan is working her tail feathers off trying to keep her head above water after losing her job in IT. Jon's niece signed up for dancing lessons without a partner, so she asked him and he being the family man that he is agreed. Raven was mortified by his moves that Jon asked Maggie for extra lessons to help. Their relationship bloomed, sexual tension was ever present and they acted upon it. Their relationship was written beautifully. Quick read!

Who knew ballroom dancing could be so hot!!

Oh my!! Ballroom Blitz is one steamy little book!! Great read, I finished it in a day, once you start you won't want to put it down
Jon is the drummer in a rock band, while home on a break he agrees to attend ballroom dance class with his niece Raven.
Maggie is teaching a dance class at the community center, she loves dance even though it's been pushed from a career to a hobby. Everything is going great until Jon White Feather shows up with his niece. The attraction is undeniable.

Hot drummer

I enjoyed reading this story. Jon a native with incredible sexy blue eyes who plays in a popular band takes dance lessons with his niece because she needed a dance partner. The instructor notices Jon and his lack of rhythm. h
He knows he is embarrassing his niece so he offered the instructor a job to help him get his rhythm. One dance move moved these two closer together until they start dating. Both are offered opportunities to advance their careers will they take the job and lose out on their happily ever after?

Whoa! This is mighty lil book with a intense romantic and sexy punch. The characters are different then the cookie cutter characters you get in a lot of romance books. Again Ms. James did not just write about 2 characters, she writes about a whole other world and she sucks you in every time. The scenes between this couple just burn up the pages in your hand and that’s not even the physical scenes! Another great read !!

Holy Hotness

Jon is a rockstar drummer and his niece convinced him to help her learn to dance...Maggie the teacher is smitten by this hot guy but he has no sense of dance. Jon asks for private lessons as he knows he sucks..which leads to Maggie and Jon starting a relationship, but will dance and being a rockstar get in the way??? Such a fun and hot read!!

Okay

This is a standalone novella that's loosely related to two others by the same author. I liked the premise of this story, but I found it to be somewhat disjointed in the storytelling. I like the parts where the reader is an observer of what's actually happening, but there are several sections where time passes and we're told what's happened instead of "seeing" it unfold.

Ballroom Blitz was a fast-paced, cute, sexy, fun read. Had life not gotten away from me, I would have finished it very quickly! Very enjoyable story. I see from others that this story is a spin-off from Wicked Garden. I'll have to get my hands on a copy of that. I'd love to read more about the earlier, wilder, days of Jon White Feather.

Awesome short rock romance

Jon White Feather is a drummer and the creative talent in a Native American band. His niece talks him into doing dance class with her, where he meets Maggie. He instantly falls in lust. After misunderstandings and time away from each other they might reach their HEA

I read Wicked Garden so long ago that I forgot that there was a follow up story with Jon White Feather, so years later here I am. I’m glad I read Ballroom Blitz, and while it was good, it’s not something I would ever reread. Jon and Maggie were both good characters, but the story lacked that spark. What I did really enjoy was the Quinn McKay appearance.

Another good book

Another good book by my favorite author. It is different than all the other books I have read by her. More cute and sweet a nice little break from the cowboys (although I will be re reading them for the hundredth time). Still has the good spice level although tamer and the story line is cute and easy to follow. Can’t wait to find and read more books of hers.

American Indian drummer and computer specialist returning to her dance roots. He plays drums with wicked rhythm but can't dance to save his life. They have great chemistry but conflicting schedules. It's about doing what we love and being with who we love, but isn't always easy.

One of the sweeter books of Loreleis. Not what I expected from her. But loved it anyway. Different and yet so much her style and way of writing. And why she is a favorit of mine.
